Inspired by another’s pod cast: A bit about how Osr games worked how new school games work and how I like to mix those ideas while I run games. Also a small rant about my recent experience with video games.
Hello from the rolling kia studio.
This episode I reintroduce the pod to potential (hello!) new listeners, then I go on a 20-minute manic rant about how video games are messing with our brain chemistry.
This is probably not the best way to start season 2 as I'm not usually so bombastic... However, it was on my mind...
I hope you enjoy the Pod, and I hope you all get to roll some dice this week!

I reference this video a few times. Geeky Pastimes makes the points in a much finer way than I do. (Probably why they have 44k subs huh?) I use some of their info in my rant I would like to give credit where it is due.
I read this before I spouted off:
Understanding Video Games and Dopamine Release
And this:
Designing Addiction: The Twisted Psychology Of Game Design
Lastly, I watched this as well.. though it was really just part of the rabbit hole. I did find the loss aversion portion interesting. (Starts at 6:29)
How Video Games Manipulate You Into Spending Money
My Blog From 2013... I have had some of these thoughts for a while.
Microtransactions are destroying my love of video games.

This one might seem a bit nihilistic, But it's not. It's just the truth of how things are on Friday 1/16/2026. and things are always fluid... This is just me riffing on how I'm having a ton of trouble keeping focused on TTRPG's and what some of the reasons could be. I guess it does ask more questions than if gives answers, but hell - at least it's an honest look at my own place in my own hobby. Sometimes it's helpful just to talk about things. The Pod cast will persist! So, no worries there.
Hey, it's Saturday! I had 2 short episodes on my phone that I never uploaded. So here you go... A quick notebook episode covering 2 topics. I even had a chance to normalize the files so they might sound slightly better than normal .... Slightly.
A bit about trying to find my personal TTRPG Spark. That thing that motivates me to keep going , keep creating and keep loving my hobby. EnjoyRoll dice.
New year wishes and dice dreams
AAIE Has one system people completely love or hate, and that’s casting spells. So let’s look at that for what and why it is.
Fact is this is a quick what have I been doing update.. persisting that’s what. Trying to plug away at some game ideas and get something out there for AAIE in the holiday season.
This episode: How I used to use Index cards when I was running games far more often than I do now. Once upon a time I would run multiple games in a week. At that time Index cards were invaluable tools for keeping track of the details and helping to run the game. This week - I talk a bit about exactly how I used to use them.
Just a quick talk about our seasonal Krampus game. And how it relates to or in our case defies, pace. Also sorry about the heater noise in the first half.
A quick update about changing formats
Just a quick hitter of an episode. With the holidays, there’s not that much going on.
A bit about our on going pathfinder 2 game… 2 hour online games , balance between fighting and everything else…. And my concerns about injecting story and stakes into a game of short online sessions.
Just a mix of TTRPG subjects… get ready for another week.
A bunch of subjects and talk about this weekends gaming.
