Colleen Rush is a casting director who works via her own company, as well as in collaboration with Larissa Mair Casting & Associates. She—in addition to being smart, kind, and hard working—is one of the most exciting voices in casting today. Colleen’s deeply invested in actors and is fascinated by the symbiotic nature of the relationship between casting and performer. In this episode, as we set about demystifying the casting process for our listeners, Colleen shows just how much she cares about actors, respects their processes, and how she is constantly rooting for them. Straight up, I learned a lot from speaking with her, things that will make me both a better actor and coach, and I can’t wait for you to take the deep dive with us. A thousand thank you’s to Colleen for being the first casting director we’ve had on the show! What an honor!

Julia Tomasone’s journey through life hasn’t always been easy, in fact the road that has led her to starring as Delilah in the hit series “The Way Home” has taken her all the way from child actor, to patient at Sick Kids Hospital, to author, producer, and much more. I’ve worked with Julia for years and I was shocked by just how much I didn’t know about her. This is one of my favorite things about the podcast, learning deeper truths about artists that I respect and admire. Julia is a grounded, confident, and respectful human. She respects others and herself, and she brings that sense of self into her work every time she steps on camera. She’s present, clear, and deeply emotionally engaged, all while being led by a super powered intellect. Learning about her journey, struggles, and triumphs was inspiring for me and I know it will be for you all as well. Julia is one of a kind, my friends, so dive on in. I can’t wait for you to get to know her.

Katherine Fogler—creator and star of the super popular Kat Watches Horror Movies YT channel—just so happens to be both incredibly funny and one of my best friends. She’s an inspiration to me, to be honest, because early on she realized that the industry is changing and modes of distribution and creation are evolving at a pace that’s nearly impossible to predict. So, in addition to her successful acting career (CFC Alumni, The Dancing Dogs of Dombrova, The Boy in the Woods, Suits, Murdoch Mysteries) she recognized that her improv skills would be super useful in doing the one thing she hates the most: Watching horror movies…for millions of people on the internet. She tortures herself so you don’t have to. She entertains with vulnerability, catastrophic fear, and a razor sharp wit. In short, she’s friggin’ great. And she’s an incredibly kind person, a great friend, a mentor, and innovator. I can’t say enough good things about Kath. So, if you want to be entertained, educated, and get to know this amazing woman, dive on it. I appreciate you!

I’ve been a fan of Daniel Maslany’s work since first seeing him on the YouTube Red series, Impulse. Since then he and I have crossed paths many times but we finally got a chance to work together on the pilot for Fox’s Doc. Getting to see his work up close was a delight. He’s empathetic, present, focused, giving, and professional. He saturates everything he does with thought and personality, bringing a full three dimensionality to every character he builds. He’s also an actor who takes his relationship with audience very seriously. He never forgets who these stories are for, and getting to chat with him about his long running roles was eye opening and insightful. In short, there’s a lot here to both be entertained by and learn from. I’m a big fan of Daniel, and I know you will be too (if you aren’t already). So check out the full episode (links in bio to wherever podcasts are found). Don’t forget to like and subscribe (and rate 5 stars) wherever you find us.

Early on, Kristian Bruun was taught the lesson “to thine own self be true”. Now. What does that mean to an 18 year old theatre kid? Not much. But it’s since become a theme that’s led him through a profoundly successful career. Kristian’s an actor who’s a student of theatre and film, technique, and has also woven that theme through himself at a core level. He is, unapologetically, himself (as you’ll see in this podcast). He’s a delight, a comedic powerhouse, a dramatic presence, and just an overall great and interesting guy. Makes sense that he’s a veteran of elite series + films like Orphan Black, Carter, Ready or Not, Snowpiercer, The Recruit, and many, many more. Dive on in, lots to learn, and lots to be entertained by in this one. Appreciate you being here!

There is nobody on the planet quite like Steffi D. In so many ways she is like the second coming of Liza Minnelli in that she is a powerhouse of musical and acting talent that is rarely seen on stage or screen. She has IMDB list as long as my arm (including major series + films like Chucky, Umbrella Academy, and Stage Fright) and a musical theatre resume that is both prolific and growing. She was a top 5 finalist on Canadian Idol which lead her to tour with the first national Broadway tour of Spring Awakening, and originated the role of Janice in the Broadway smash hit “Come From Away”. She also (takes a second to dab on my haters) is an old student of mine, a profoundly kind person, and an absolute delight to talk to. This episode is full of gigantic opinions (from both of us), major life questions, and lots of laughs. Can’t wait for you to dive in.

Sara Garcia has been gracing your screens—and ears (she’s also a very successful voiceover artist)—for years, with prominent and leading roles on Ride, The Flash, X Company, and Reign, among countless others. She’s currently reaching new heights in the leading role of Jennifer Morales on NBC’s The Hunting Party.
Sara’s journey through life and into professional acting is truly unique, taking her all around the world only to arrive back at her love of performing—a much richer and wiser human because of it. This was a phenomenal conversation about where she began, her exploration of both the world and herself, and how she ultimately found her way to this moment in her career.
Sara is a grounded, internally evolved, and deeply wise artist in the most holistic sense, and I know you’re going to get a lot out of this one. So dive on in. Thanks for being here.

Evan Stern is basically the human embodiment of talent, opinion, and relentless charisma. The dude is one of the funniest actors out there, with a mastery of physical comedy that few can match. This episode is a deep dive into his iconic performance as Stuart on the hit show, Letterkenny, as well as all the successes and failures that came before and after. This conversation is wild, folks. We pulled any thread that came to us, leading from spicy takes to insights on life and acting, to jokes, to more spice. I’ve always been a fan of Evan, so getting to sit down with him like this was a genuine delight. I know you’re going to love this one as much as I loved filming it, so dive on in.

Lara Jean is what I’d call a “capital A Actor.” She’s been profoundly successful across both stage and screen, and whether you know her from her unforgettable turn as Freddie Lounds on NBC’s Hannibal, or from any of the other roles she’s carved out across an illustrious career (Chucky, The King Tide, Nightmare Alley, Designated Survivor, X Company, Antiviral, to name just a few), it’s clear she’s something special.
I first met LJ when she starred in a feature I produced (Nose to Tail), and I remember being struck immediately by her professionalism, focus, and sheer depth of talent. She’s one of those actors who's somehow both meticulously prepared and utterly willing to lean into whatever the moment presents to her in a take. In this pod I found in her someone deeply collaborative and refreshingly open—willing to speak about process, training, personal challenges, and the flaws that can make us who we are. LJ is profoundly in touch with herself, and after we wrapped I genuinely could have talked with her for hours.
To me, this conversation is a holistic exploration of what it really means to live as an actor. I’m proud of this one. Dive in.

Dalmar Abuzeid is one of the stars of the iconic series Degrassi: The Next Generation and the deeply moving Anne with an E—among many, many other credits. What I’ve admired most about Dalmar, long before this episode, is how profoundly thoughtful he is. He takes both life and craft seriously, but never pretentiously—he’s measured, grounded, and endlessly curious about the work.
Talking with him always pushes me to reexamine what I believe about acting and to approach things from new and unexpected angles. Dalmar brings a rare combination of ambition, humility, and wisdom to everything he does, and that devotion to growth shows up in every word of this conversation.
I learned a lot from our talk, and I know you will too. So dive on in—Dalmar’s the real deal, and a legend in the making.

Sara Mitich is one of the stars of the hit series Star Trek Discovery (where she played two different characters over the show’s run). She also happens to be one of the best actors and people I know. I’ve been working with Sara for years, as a client, colleague, and collaborator.
Her talent and ability to mine complex, dark emotions is formidable. She’s always game to go deeper—to dive into the intensity of a moment or the challenge of a scene—and she brings that same mindset to her personal life. That commitment to inner work led her to create Gratitude and Growth, a coaching practice that helps people all over the world cultivate gratitude, awareness, and emotional resilience.
She is courageous in all manners of her life and it was a real delight to go deep with her in this conversation. Sara’s a special actor and person, so dive on in and experience her wisdom, intelligence, and depth first hand.

A Juilliard-trained dancer, star of The Next Step, Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things, Fear Street: Prom Queen, and now a producer and actor on the feature film Loathe Thy Neighbor—it’s clear that Brennan Clost is a multi-talented artist in every sense.
I’m not gonna lie, this conversation was a genuine delight. Brennan is incredibly open about the things that have driven him to succeed at such a high level from such a young age—and the cost of that relentless dedication when it’s pushed him to his limits. From training at Juilliard while filming The Next Step on his summer “breaks,” to having to rebuild himself physically and emotionally in the years that followed, to finding his creative footing again on Tiny Pretty Things—we talk about it all.
So many of the people I admire hold Brennan in the highest regard, and it’s easy to see why. He’s thoughtful, passionate, grounded, and generous in sharing what he’s learned. There’s so much to take away from this conversation, and I’m excited for you to dive in.

Ryan George is a YouTube comedian with over 1.8 million subscribers on his personal channel alone. You probably know him for Pitch Meeting and his viral split-screen sketches where he plays all the characters. I’ve been a fan for years—I don’t think there’s a comedian who lampoons the film and TV industry more effectively while never doing it in a mean-spirited way. He’s razor sharp, highly intelligent, and brings a workmanlike consistency to his sketch production that I hugely admire. His writing is sharp, his delivery is masterful, and he’s grown his sketches into a comedy brand emulated all over the internet. In this episode we talk about how he got where he is, his creative process, the origin of his famous catchphrases, and where he wants to go next. If you’re a fan of Ryan, an actor who wants to create your own work, or a creator who wants to sharpen your comedy skills, this episode is for you. Sarah Fisher is maybe the nicest person I know. And I’m not kidding here. Sarah brings light and joy into every part of her life and career, from her early work as Becky Baker on Degrassi: The Next Generation to feature films like Kiss and Cry (BIG shout out to the fine folks at Carley’s Angels and the good work they’re doing in creating access to integrative cancer care), Someone Like You, and now her work on the hit series When Hope Calls. Sarah takes an approach of radical responsibility, of choosing to look within when life hands her hardship, choosing hope and growing through all things. She’s a personal friend and creative collaborator, someone I’ve worked with on set, as a client, and now as a co-creator of a couple series we’re developing. We dive into all of that, so expect all sorts of acting tips, life advice, creative inspiration, and lots of laughter. This is a fun one and I’m excited for you to join us.

Being a number one (lead character) on a series is both a blessing and a challenge. I have a lot of friends and clients on the hit CW series “Sullivan’s Crossing” and ALL of them speak so highly of Morgan. Join us as I sit down with her to chat all things Sullivan’s, as well as her journey from the start of her career to where she is now. Morgan is so many things, cool under pressure, dedicated, supportive, creative and kind, and her generosity is apparent throughout this conversation as she provides deep insight into the challenges of a life spent acting, the joys and fears she experiences daily on set, and how she navigates being the leader of a major TV series. Zoé De Grand’Maison exudes art in everything she does. Whether it’s in her role as Agnes on Amazon Prime’s hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty, her work as the villainous Evelyn Evernever on Riverdale, Gracie Johanssen on Ophan Black, or any of her other innumerable acting credits she is always searching for more connection, more embodiment, deeper connection to character and self. Watching her is watching an actor who is never quite giving you the performance you think she will. She’s an actor who keeps you on your toes and comes at her choices from surprising angles of approach. The result is someone who keeps you on the edge of your seat in moments that would otherwise be mundane. It’s no wonder she’s on some of the decade’s most popular series and it’s only up from here. Getting to chat with Zoe was an absolute pleasure, there’s lots to learn, lots to be inspired by, and I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.

Is there anything David Reale hasn’t done? He’s a veteran of a gajillion shows (The Boys, Suits, Poly is the New Monogamy to name a few), he’s a world class Meisner instructor, he’s a veteran of both stage and screen AND he just happens to be the guy I most admired and was secretly jealous of for literal decades of my early career. See, David and I started at the exact same time in the exact same place and he booked a lot of the things that I didn’t. I’ve always wanted to have an open chat with him, to talk about where we started, how we got where we are, and where he’s going next. Varun Saranga is a funny guy. He became a student of comedy as he learned to act, becoming a (my words here, not his) master at the rhythms of winning and losing in a way that makes people laugh. He has had tremendous success (Wynonna Earp, Carter, How to be Indie, Workin’ Moms to name just a few). The thing about Varun, though, is that in addition to his comedic super powers he possesses an undercurrent of deep vulnerability that comes out in his work in the subtlest of ways, bringing humanity to every laugh he gets from us. Kimberly-Sue Murray was one of my first ever clients and has been a friend for years. I’ve long admired her as she’s built a profoundly successful career (The Boys, V-Wars, The Wedding Planner, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Madness just to name a few). This conversation in particular was profound, not only because it was our 20th episode, but because we picked up at a very interesting turning point in Kim’s life. She’s recently gotten VERY clear on her vision for the rest of her life and career, and most importantly she’s let go of shame and doubt around it all. Ryan is a whirlwind of charisma and nowhere is it more prevalent than his unforgettable turn as Suki on the hit Netflix Series “BET”. One of my pet peeves in Film & TV these days is that I’ll get through an entire movie or series and not even know the main character’s names. Not so for Suki.
