Do you remember the feeling of waking up the morning after something incredible happened? Like the morning after graduation, when the tassel is turned, and the future feels wide open… Those are mornings where nothing has changed around you, but everything has changed within you. Have you ever thought about how the disciples of Jesus must have felt the morning after they saw Jesus – alive? It must have felt like waking up in a brand-new world. That’s exactly what Peter wants us to experience in 1 Peter 1:3-9. He wants us to see life through Resurrection Eyes. Here is what is different about you today…1. You are an heir to permanent inheritance.2. You are empowered to endure trials with purpose. 3. You are filled with joy the world cannot touch.
Jesus Saved Me From… Death / Destruction05 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 5:16-26You know when you’re eating chips, and you tell yourself, “Just one more”? Before you know it, you’ve eaten half the bag. It doesn’t feel like a big deal in the moment, but the next thing you know, you’re wearing sweatpants more often than you'd like and regretting that one extra chip. But a lack of discipline is seen in other areas of our lives, especially our spiritual lives. Like when we neglect regular time in prayer, Scripture reading, or fellowship with believers. It’s like Paul said in Galatians 5:7, “You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?”There are three forces that are working to hinder us from obeying the truth: (1) Legalism, (2) Others, and (3) Our Desires. The sad reality is that we are doomed to our own destruction. Because we are in a losing battle with our desires. Until Jesus stepped in and rescued us. He provided (1) grace for when we fail, (2) brothers and sisters in Christ, and (3) the Holy Spirit. Walking with the Spirit will keep us from wandering into the world and our own desires.
04 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 4:21-5:1On January 1, 1863, while the United States was in the middle of a Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing anyone enslaved. In Galatians 4, Paul wrote a letter to a group of Christians in Asia Minor to remind them that Jesus, through his death, burial and resurrection, also issued an Emancipation Proclamation. We have been freed from the power and control of our spiritual slavery. But we have a choice to make – A choice between living under the elements of the world or as a child of God.So Paul reminds us of two powerful truths:1. Don’t return to the chains that Jesus broke.2. Jesus didn’t set you free to live in bondage to others. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Ephesians 5:1).
03 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 3:1-29 Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. Like when you know you need to go to bed because you have an important / busy day the next day, but you stay up way too late watching Netflix or scrolling social media. Or you snoozed the alarm one too many times, and now you’re running late and you’re feeling stressed. But our self-sabatoging doesn’t just show up in those ways, it is seen in our spiritual lives too. That’s what Paul is addressing in Galatians 3 – how Jesus saves us from ourselves. 1. Jesus saves me from my self-reliance (Galatians 3:1-5)2. Jesus saves me from myself-condemnation (Galatians 3:10-14)3. Jesus saves me from my self-centeredness (Galatians 3:26-29)
