Description
We're Dan & Heather, a couple of movie lovers (and a couple, too). Each episode, we're going to be looking at a movie that one of us hasn't seen (probably Heather): from some classics you'd be astonished that someone hasn't seen (again, probably Heather), to some of our more obscure favorites. We'll be talking about what we know, or at least, what we *think* we know about the movie. Then after watching it, we'll recap the movie, discuss what we thought, find out if the movie has withstood the test of time, and hopefully have a few laughs along the way.

Heather hasn’t seen Ocean’s ElevenSomehow, Heather missed the star-packed 2001 Ocean’s Eleven starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and Andy Garcia…until now. Does Steven Soderbergh’s cool direction hold up, or do the questionable fashion choices and Don Cheadle’s accent derail the movie? Find out what Heather thought in our first anniversary episode!Noteshttps://theasc.com/articles/oceans-eleven-smooth-operatorshttps://everymoviehasalesson.com/blog/2022/11/guest-column-behind-the-scenes-of-oceans-elevenhttps://www.eonline.com/photos/29698/secrets-about-the-ocean-s-franchisehttps://collider.com/brad-pitt-eating-in-movies/

Dan hasn’t seen Seven Brides for Seven BrothersBless your beautiful podcast-listening hide, wherever you might be! In this episode, Heather shows Dan the classic 1954 musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Find out what Dan thinks about the movie the American Film Institute ranked as one of the top 25 best musicals in this hilarious episode of Blind Spots & Second Thoughts! What does Heather think of 1996’s Star Trek First Contact, directed by Jonathan Frakes and featuring the Star Trek The Next Generation cast, Alice Krige, and James Cromwell? Heather hasn’t seen Citizen KaneSPOILER ALERT: Rosebud is a sled. Pretty much everyone knows that fact about the 1941 movie by Orson Welles, which is widely considered one of the best films ever made. But what does Heather think about it, watching it for the first time 85 years later? We talk about how much of an impact on pop culture and filmmaking the movie has had, what parts of the film hold up, and if it’s really worthy of all the praise bestowed upon it. Did a brash 26 year-old with zero filmmaking experience really manage to make a timeless classic, or is the movie as overblown as the titular character’s ego? Is it really worth watching in the 21st century, or is it just a relic of cinema history? Find out along with Heather in this episode!NotesExploring Orson Welles' 'Citizen Kane' contracthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSfX-nrg-lI&t=32shttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_J._Mankiewiczhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_of_the_Worlds_(1938_radio_drama)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orson_Welleshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen_Kanehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screenplay_for_Citizen_Kanehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_journalism

This movie, directed by Jon Favreau, kicked off the entertainment juggernaut that is the MCU, so even though Heather has technically seen the movie before, we’re going to revisit it to start our Marvel superhero journey. Fortunately, she doesn’t remember any of it.We’ll discuss how RDJ’s charm offensive makes an offensive character likeable, if there’s chemistry between Tony Stark and his executive assistant Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), and if the movie still holds up over fifteen years later.00:00 Intro00:36 Preconceptions04:38 What exactly is the MCU, anyway?06:02 Indie film cred10:18 Movie clip12:56 Reactions16:50 Grounded in reality20:00 Stan Lee's challenge21:41 Charm offensive24:19 Recap26:49 That weapons factory really tied the room together28:38 Terrence Howard was fired for being Terrence Howard30:05 Writer-director-actor-bodyguard30:57 JARVIS!31:54 Hot sake and ethical flight attendant strippers34:22 International date line35:20 The Ten Rings36:54 Escape and goodbye39:26 Have it your way (rock bottom)40:58 No longer man-ooo-facturing weapons42:32 SHIELD is kind of a big deal45:06 Science-based (just not physics)47:55 Chemistry is a science49:07 Gwyneth Paltrow has never heard of Operation49:48 Masking done right51:58 Would you kiss your boss at a work event?57:29 Terrorism is terrifying01:00:37 Why does Dan know what Louboutins are?01:01:22 The big bad (not really a surprise)01:05:57 Drink more Ovaltine01:09:03 Crucial to make voice scary when being a bad guy01:12:31 I am Iron Man01:13:30 Post credits!01:18:11 Closing thoughts

"What do you mean, you haven't seen it?"Blind Spots & Second Thoughts is a podcast featuring Dan and Heather (that's us!), a couple of movie lovers -- and a couple -- who love to have occasionally deep, but more often than not, incredibly silly conversations about movies. In each episode of Blind Spots & Second Thoughts, we'll pick a movie that one of us has seen, and the other hasn't. Usually, that's Heather. Before we watch it, we'll talk about what we think we know, and what we can remember about the movie. Then, after we watch it, we'll recap the movie, talk about what worked and what didn't, what's stood the test of time and what's aged like milk. And probably make some jokes.Join us as we watch all kinds of movies, from some of our obscure favorites that maybe flew under the radar for most, to some absolute must-see classics you can't believe one of us hasn't seen (it's probably Heather). From fun little arthouse movies to the MCU, we've got it covered, and one of us hasn't seen it (again, probably Heather).Blind Spots & Second Thoughts premieres January 1st, 2025
