A huge thank you to Loulua Zawawi for her assistance with the research material for this episode, as well as for her time and the original idea behind its creation. It is greatly appreciated.
In this powerful and thoughtful episode of Football For Kids, we explore why football creates such big emotions — from last-minute winners and stadium goosebumps to moments where feelings spill over. Inspired by real messages from families, this episode helps children understand anger, frustration, and excitement through a simple brain framework — The Owl, The Baboon, and The Lizard. We also address respect, kindness, and why racism is never acceptable in football or in life.

In this inspiring episode of the Football for Kids Podcast, we tell the incredible true story of Eduardo Camavinga — the Real Madrid and France superstar whose journey began far away from the bright lights of football’s biggest stadiums.
Born in a refugee camp in Angola after his family fled war in DR Congo, young Eduardo’s life started with challenges most children could never imagine. But through courage, family strength and a love for the game, his dream began to grow — from the streets of Fougères in France to the world stage of the UEFA Champions League.
We explore how Camavinga switched from judo to football, the coaches who spotted his talent, and the moment he burst onto the scene with Stade Rennais at just 16. You’ll hear how he became one of France’s youngest internationals ever, signed for Real Madrid, and helped the club lift Europe’s biggest trophy.
Packed with shoutouts, big moments, resilience and life lessons, this episode shows kids and families that where you start does not decide where you finish.
Perfect for young football fans aged 6–12, car journeys, bedtime listening and screen-free family time.
If your child loves football, dreams big and never gives up — this one’s for them. ⚽

Welcome back to the Football For Kids podcast with Darren Rees, now proudly entering its fourth year of football stories, big dreams and proper journeys.
In this episode, we tell the remarkable life story of Igor Thiago, the Brentford goal machine who, at the time of recording, sits as the second highest goalscorer in the Premier League. And this is not a tale that starts with flash boots or fancy academies. It begins with neighbourhood football in Brazil, jumper goalposts, hard work, and a quiet belief that refused to go away.
Born in Gama, just outside Brasília, Thiago grew up in a working family where nothing was handed out for free. Football was joy, not a plan. Until one night, watching the Premier League on television, something sparked. A young Thiago saw Cristiano Ronaldo flying down the wing for Manchester United and thought, maybe, just maybe, that could be him one day.
Life soon tested that dream. When Thiago was just 13, his father passed away. Overnight, childhood changed. He worked jobs from the age of 11, clearing weeds, carrying shopping, mixing cement, running long distances after work, all while going to school and training. Before he was a striker, he was a worker. Before he scored goals, he learned how to keep going.
This episode follows Thiago’s slow and stubborn rise through futsal, local Brazilian clubs, and a brave move away from home to chase football properly. From Cruzeiro in Brazil to freezing winters in Bulgaria, from record breaking nights with Club Brugge to a club record move to Brentford, his journey is packed with setbacks, injuries, patience and belief.
You will hear how Thiago fought through serious knee injuries, waited for his chance in England, then exploded onto the Premier League stage with goals, records and a Player of the Month award. From carrying bricks to carrying a football team, this is a story about resilience, timing, and trusting your path.
Perfect for kids, families, young footballers and anyone who loves a proper underdog story, this episode shows that greatness does not care where you start. Sometimes the longest journeys create the strongest people.
So whether you are listening in the car, at home, or on the way to football training, this is one story you will not forget. And if you know someone who loves football just as much as you do, pass it on. See you next time.

In this episode of the Football For Kids Podcast, Darren Rees tells the inspiring story of Antoine Semenyo – the Bournemouth goal-scoring machine and Ghana international.
Born in Chelsea in the year 2000, Semenyo’s journey has been anything but easy. From kicking a ball in the park with his dad, facing rejection after rejection at clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham and Crystal Palace, and even nearly giving up football completely… to finally breaking through with Bristol City, battling through tough loan spells in non-league and the lower leagues, and then becoming a multi-million pound Premier League player with AFC Bournemouth.
We’ll hear how Semenyo grew up watching the Africa Cup of Nations on TV with his family, dreaming of heroes like Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan – and how that dream came true when he went on to wear the Ghana shirt himself at international level.
But this episode doesn’t stop at the goals and glory. We also talk about the serious issue of racism in football. On 15 August 2025, Semenyo was racially abused while playing at Anfield. We explain why this is so wrong, why racism has no place in football or anywhere, and how kids can learn to always choose kindness, bravery, and respect.
👉 Perfect for kids and families who love football, this episode is about never giving up, chasing your dreams, and standing up for what’s right.
If you love football stories and want to be inspired, then you won’t want to miss this episode about Antoine Semenyo.
