Description
Welcome to The Myohacker Podcast. I am your host, Karindy Ong. I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist specialized in myofunctional therapy and the mom of two who has learned through clinical and personal experience how to get clear as we navigate decisions related to airway health. I am on a mission to educate families without the overwhelm so that our children can grow, eat, breathe, and thrive.
Join me each week as we explore the crucial connection between how we breathe, swallow, eat, speak and sleep. We will discuss how these functions affect us holistically and discuss the why and the how of airway challenges. From tongue ties and tongue thrust, we unpack questions from parents to clarify what a whole-body approach to treatment and wellness means. Myofunctional therapy isn’t just about correcting a tongue tie; it’s about restoring balance and function to the body.
Together we will discuss:
-How airway issues like mouth breathing can affect our health
-At-home strategies to support airway tone and development
-How myofunctional therapy can improve orthodontic outcomes and prevent issues like relapse
-The mind-body connection to airway health and why a holistic approach is essential
Through personal and clinical experience as a holistic airway provider, I bring you practical insights, interviews, and real-life case studies to show how a myofunctional approach can bring growth, life, and wellness where you have been stuck, confused, and ill. Each week I’ll share resources, mindset shifts and hands-on strategies you can use to start making a difference.

In this experiential episode, Karindy breaks down the real meaning of grounding and why it may be the missing piece behind airway issues, chronic tension, and stalled therapy outcomes.
This isn’t just about “earthing.”
You’ll discover three powerful types of grounding—through the earth, the body, and human connection—and how they directly impact the nervous system, learning, and healing.
If your patients are overwhelmed, compensating, or stuck… this episode will change how you see everything.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
What grounding actually is (and where it comes from)
How nervous system regulation impacts therapy outcomes
The connection between tension patterns (like jaw clenching) and compensation
Why patients need regulation to learn and integrate new skills
How co-regulation and practitioner presence influence healing
Simple grounding strategies you can use immediately
Why it matters:
When patients are dysregulated, progress is limited.
Grounding provides a physiological pathway to regulation, improving engagement, reducing tension, and enhancing results—for both patients and providers.

This episode focuses on clinical intuition in feeding & oral motor therapy, using a detailed infant case study to illustrate how providers can move beyond symptom-based care and into a whole-body, systems-based approach.
Karindy explains how clinicians should think in layers (like tracing paper) - from structure to soft tissue to systemic processes - and how dysfunction in one area (like movement patterns or tension) can cascade into feeding, breathing, and digestion challenges.
The case study highlights a 4-month-old infant with feeding and weight gain issues, demonstrating how collaboration, movement-based support, and oral-motor coordination can transform outcomes without escalating to more invasive interventions.

In this mini case study episode, Karindy shares a real clinical moment that underscores the importance of trusting your instincts as a clinician. Subtle body cues can reveal deeper physiological stress - often tied to inflammation, infection, or nervous system dysregulation - if we’re willing to look beyond surface-level symptoms.
She breaks down why whole-body thinking is essential in airway and myofunctional therapy, along with the role of collaboration, timely referrals, and clear communication with families. This episode also highlights how clinicians can develop and refine their intuition through intentional training and experience.

Biohacking tools are everywhere right now, but can they truly improve airway function?
In this conversation, Freddie Kimmel joins me to explore the role of PEMF, red light therapy, ozone, and emerging oxygen technologies that support breathing, sleep, and tissue repair.
We dive into:
How electromagnetic fields influence circulation and cellular repair
• Why red light supports nitric oxide production and mitochondrial health
• How ozone can be used to support sinus, ear, and inflammatory patterns
• The connection between oxygen delivery, sleep quality, and nervous system tone
• And why none of these tools replace foundational light exposure, breath mechanics, and movement
If you’re navigating mouth breathing, sleep challenges, tonsil issues, nervous system dysregulation, or chronic inflammation, this episode will help you understand when to use advanced tools and when to return to foundational physiology.

In episode 38 of the MyoHacker Podcast, Karindy speaks with Kelley Rubio, BS, RDH, QOM founder of My Myo My Health about the intersection of myofunctional therapy, women’s health, hormones, and airway-centered care.
They explore how hormonal shifts during pregnancy, perimenopause, and midlife influence oral health, TMJ symptoms, breathing patterns, sleep quality, and nervous system regulation. The conversation highlights how myofunctional therapy and breathing techniques can support women experiencing stress, anxiety, jaw tension, and airway challenges during hormonal transitions.
Kelly highlights the importance of self-care, education, and community support in women’s health, encouraging women to advocate for their bodies, seek answers, and take an active role in their long-term wellness.
Key Takeaways
Hormonal shifts during perimenopause, pregnancy, and midlife directly impact airway, oral health, TMJ function, and nervous system regulation.
Pregnancy hormones can increase risk for gum inflammation, airway changes, and oral tissue sensitivity.
TMJ symptoms in women may be influenced by hormonal fluctuations and connective tissue changes.
Breathing techniques and myofunctional therapy support stress regulation, sleep, and whole-body function.
Consistent self-care and nervous system support are essential during hormonal transitions.
Community and education are critical because women’s hormone health is still under-researched.
Women deserve to advocate for answers, care, and support during every life stage.

Essentials: Proper pre- and post-surgery nutrition (protein, hydration, limited alcohol/sugar), targeted supplements (under supervision), and personalized healing via genetic testing (pain response, detox, inflammation). Healing requires community; ask for help and delegate. Holistic recovery includes physical health, nervous system regulation, emotional support, rest, and nutritional rebuilding.

In episode 36 of the Myohacker Podcast, Karindy talks with Casey Masalehdani, Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and mother, about her journey into myofunctional therapy, pediatric speech therapy, and whole-child development. Together, they explore how engaging therapy strategies improve outcomes for children with speech delays, orofacial myofunctional disorders, and sensory processing differences.
The conversation also addresses the emotional and practical realities of parenting a child with developmental delays, even as a trained clinician. Casey discusses how clinical intuition, parent coaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration help uncover root causes behind speech, feeding, airway, and behavioral challenges.
Casey explains why making therapy fun and meaningful increases participation, home practice carryover, and long-term success. She shares how self-regulation, nervous system support, and sensory integration directly impact therapy progress and child behavior.
This episode is especially valuable for parents and pediatric providers who want to better understand the connection between regulation, sensory needs, and functional development.

In episode 34 of The Myohacker Podcast, Karindy speaks with Courtney Mallally, a mother and Craniosacral Fascial Therapy practitioner, about her son Everett’s journey after being diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) following a traumatic birth.
Courtney walks listeners through the early days in the hospital, the devastating prognoses she was given, and the pivotal moment when she chose to hold both hope and responsibility for her son’s healing. From that point forward, she began exploring a more integrative, terrain-based approach to brain recovery; one rooted in ancestral nutrition, intentional movement, connection with nature, nervous system regulation, and hands-on therapies like Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) and photobiomodulation.
Throughout the conversation, Courtney shares the foundational pillars of her Child Brain Regeneration Protocol, a free resource she created for families navigating pediatric brain injury and developmental challenges. Together, Karindy and Courtney explore feeding and global development considerations, the role of intuition in caregiving, and the emotional reality of parenting a child with complex needs. This conversation offers hope, practical insight, and encouragement for parents to trust their intuition and support the body’s innate design to heal.
