Language of Connection

Poetry is a language that connects us to the sentiment of things. It’s a coded language to help un earth, decipher the true meaning and nature of things. In life, like poetry the nature of things and the meaning within, can be missed if we failed to de mystify it. This poem is really about things that last. It’s about upholding a “Vision of Zen” despite the current circumstances. A steady vision not deterred by the highs and lows, setbacks and the successes. A positive vision or higher frequency enables us to rise up to the possibility instead of fall down and succumb to disillusionment. It begs the question, "Is the state of “Zen” even possible in the 21st-century?"

Welcome to the language of connection. I hope this next poem connects with you. These words are for anyone who’s ever felt labeled, categorized, stuffed into some pre-existing box that didn’t quite fit your size and model. But people said you have to pick from one of the choices. Instead of create your own option. It made me think a lot about identity and how we approach it. I wrote this at a time when I felt social media and the image of who someone presented themselves as, was starting to have more bearing; on how we thought of a person, than what we knew of them - from real life interactions. A checkmark given by an algorithm used to confirm legitimacy, instead of using our human discernment. Maybe you’ve noticed the same…In essence, these words are about asking ourselves how this incessant need to categorize and name things doesn’t bring us any closer to understanding & may even put an unnecessary focus on our division and separation.
