This one is a proper real chat with Jenny Mitchell. Straight talking, no fluff, plenty of laughs, and a few “yep, been there” moments. We kick off talking about the kind of “free” events that are not really free (you know the ones), and then Jenny takes us into her story. From running a cleaning business, to stepping in and taking the lead on the serviced accommodation business during lockdown, to building a niche in contract bookings and long term stays. But it’s not just business. We go into the messy midlife mix too. Menopause, ADHD diagnosis later in life, and why so many women are only now realising what’s been going on under the bonnet for years. Jenny’s big message is simple. Stop using labels as the reason you cannot. Put your big girls pants on, build the systems, and keep punching. And yes, we end with a quick rapid fire, including Jenny’s current favourite book recommendation (and it is a spicy one). The best bits“Ropey courses” and the aggressive upsell that makes you want to call a cabJenny’s lockdown pivot and the rock bottom caravan chapterWhy she avoids the Airbnb hamster wheel and focuses on direct contract bookingsThe menopause conversation that led into ADHD being flagged via a questionnaireJenny’s take on ADHD being a superpower if you learn how to handle itThe reality of getting out of the weeds, and why her Ops Manager was a game changerMoney talk, unapologetically, plus doing good work through contracts that support vulnerable peopleKey takeaways1) Your pivot might start in survival modeJenny did not build this business from a perfectly planned strategy. It grew through lockdown pressure, key worker stays, and a willingness to learn fast and step up.2) Niche beats noiseShe is clear that her lane is direct bookings and longer stays, building relationships with companies, not chasing holiday maker bookings.3) Training matters, not “I did a free course so I’m an expert now”Jenny calls out the illusion of competence. If you do not truly know your stuff, you cannot sell it properly.4) Midlife can be the moment you finally understand yourselfMenopause. ADHD. That constant mental load. This chat will land for a lot of women who have spent years thinking they were “just a bit much” or “not normal”.5) Systems buy your freedomLists, structure, and support. Jenny’s proof point is being able to run the business from her phone, and still live her life.Quotable quotes“On one of those ropey courses… and then someone wants to march you to the back of the room.”“We sold a family home before the lockdown, and we lived in a caravan… we’ve been rock bottom.”“Big girls pants on and just keep punching.”“They take a free day course… ‘I’m a professional now, I’ve got a certificate.’ Yeah, it’s bollocks.”“I like doing direct bookings. That’s my niche.”“It’s a superpower. You’ve just got to know how to handle it.”“I wake up at one in the morning sometimes, and my list is going.”“People don’t want to put the work in. They want you to come along and make it all better.”“Life’s too short, isn’t it?”“I can run my business from my phone… living the best life.”That book - here's the deetsThe Power of the Pussy: Get What You Want From Men: Love, Respect, Commitment and More! - Kara KingConnect with JennyIf you want to connect with Jenny about serviced accommodation, contract bookings, or getting support from her team (including Ops Manager support), check out her links below:Contact : +441403599341Instagram: jensm70Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jenny.mitchell.1481Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-mitchell-7886b079/Website: www.topstayhosting.comAnd if you’re sat there thinking, “I need to get out of the weeds too”, and you want 1:1 support with clarity, structure, and growth, you know where I am. This episode goes a bit deeper. Not in a dramatic way. Not in a “let’s be profound” way. But in the way that happens when you slow down, sit with people you trust, and talk honestly about why certain things matter. In Part 2 of this Sir Jacobs mini-series, I’m joined by Mitch and his mum Crystal. And what unfolds is one of those conversations that starts with product, but very quickly becomes about life, values, courage, and the choices we make along the way. It’s about what we allow into our homes. What we put on our skin. What we light at the end of the day. And what those small choices say about who we are and how we want to live. This is not a glossy brand story. It’s a real conversation about craft, care, and building something that actually means something. What we talk about in this episodeHow Sir Jacobs started as a passion project and a bit of a risk, long before it became a brand others wanted to be part ofWhy handmade really matters, and why not everything deserves to make it out of the studioThe discipline of doing things properly, even when nobody is watchingHow scent becomes part of your life without you even realising itThe idea of ritual, from lighting a candle at the end of the day to creating a feeling when someone walks through your doorWhat legacy really looks like when you strip away the noiseWhy choosing your vessel and choosing your fragrance is about identity, not interiorsSustainability as a way of working, not a marketing lineMoments that really landed for meThere are a few moments in this episode that stayed with me.Crystal describing her first Sir Jacobs piece as something solid and grounding, almost like it had always existed. The attention given to the base of a ceramic vessel, even though most people will never look at it.The honesty about smashing pieces that are not right, even when that hurts financially.Mitch talking about the courage it took to step away from safe options and back something uncertain. And the quiet realisation that Sir Jacobs is not just something you buy, it becomes something you live with. What this episode is really aboutThis conversation is about integrity.About not cutting corners. About caring deeply. About choosing to do things slowly and properly in a world that rewards speed and shortcuts. It’s also about pride. Pride in craft. Pride in where things are made. Pride in creating something that feels considered and respectful. And if I’m honest, it’s also about noticing how rare that is.One line that sums it up“When you build something with care and intention, people feel it. They might not be able to explain why, but they know.”That’s what stayed with me.My final thoughtThis episode is a reminder to pause and notice what’s around you.Not just what looks good. But what feels right. What lasts. What carries meaning.Because the things we surround ourselves with shape our days more than we realise.Visit Sir Jacobs and use code LAUNCHUK20 for 20% Discount🌍 www.sirjacobs.co.ukFind and connect with Benhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-colling-3b251133a/Follow Sir Jacobshttps://www.instagram.com/sirjacobs_com/https://www.tiktok.com/@sirjacobs.com?lang=enIf this episode resonated with you, please take a moment to subscribe to Women on Purpose so you never miss a conversation like this. Women On Purpose Podcast - Sir Jacobs: Real Voices, Real Homes (Part 1)This week’s episode is a little different… and honestly, it’s one of my favourites to record.Because behind every brand we admire, every beautiful product we bring into our homes, there are people. Real voices. Real relationships. Real stories. In Part 1 of this two-part mini-series, I’m joined by Kerry, Sean, and Alicia (Ben’s neighbours and Ben’s mum) for a relaxed, laughter-filled conversation, complete with mimosas, all about what Sir Jacobs feels like when it’s not a marketing campaign… but something you actually live with. What comes through so clearly isn’t just appreciation for the ceramics or fragrances. It’s the connection to the intention. The craftsmanship. The pride. The “oh my God… where did you get that?” moments. And the kind of quality you can’t fake, because you can feel it the second you pick it up.This episode is about trust. It’s about what happens when something is made slowly, thoughtfully, and with purpose. And it’s about how a brand doesn’t just land on shelves… it lands in lives. In this episode, we talk about…First encounters with Sir Jacobs, the accidental discovery in the guest loo that turns into “I need this in every room.”Why these products don’t just smell beautiful… they shift the whole atmosphere of a home. The joy of ritual, Sunday night baths, candles lit, diffusers going, and that “company’s coming” spritz routine. The magic of “choose your vessel, choose your fragrance”, and the refill concept that makes it feel both luxe and sensible. Why Sir Jacobs is becoming a natural fit for boutique hotels, resorts, and luxury gifting, including the new bracket solution for hospitality spaces. How scent creates memory, that instant transport back to a place, a moment, a feeling. What you’ll hear (and feel) in Part 11) “I didn’t even know I was encountering it…”Kerry describes discovering Sir Jacobs without realising it, then walking out of the bathroom basically demanding to know where it came from. That moment of genuine surprise is everything.2) The “waft” factor 😄Sean (and Ben!) love smelling good, and the conversation about fragrance being something that lingers, lives in a space, and becomes part of your identity is honestly brilliant.3) The plastic bottle rebellionAlicia’s story is priceless: being told to get rid of the plastic bottles and suddenly being introduced to something that looks stunning everywhere, bathroom… kitchen… the whole house.4) The craft you can’t mass-produceWe talk about how every vessel is handcrafted in South Africa, one-of-a-kind, and made with serious standards, including the reality that if it’s not perfect, it doesn’t pass.5) A brand that started in a garage… and became a beliefThere’s a beautiful thread running through this episode about belief, how Ben encountered the product, got goosebumps, and knew he needed to be involved. Not because he was sold to… but because he felt it.Favourite moments & “best bits” Here are some gorgeous moments you could also pull as clips:“I didn’t even know I was encountering it…”“He loves to waft.” (still makes me laugh 😄)“They look stunning everywhere in the house.”“It’s art and it’s fine fragrance.”“When you build something slowly and honestly… it doesn’t just land on shelves, it lands in lives.”The bigger messageWhat this conversation really highlights is this:When something is created with integrity and care, people don’t just buy it, they champion it.They tell their friends. They want it in every room. They build rituals around it.And they feel proud to support it because it represents something deeper than “stuff.”And honestly… that’s what brand is.Not marketing. Not noise. But meaning.Sir Jacobs have kindly given Women On Purpose listeners a discount code for your first order:www.sirjacobs.co.uk Use Code: LAUNCHUK20 for 20% Discount🌍 www.sirjacobs.co.ukFind and connect with Sir Jacobshttps://www.instagram.com/sirjacobs_com/https://www.tiktok.com/@sirjacobs.com?lang=en Hosted on Acast. Show NotesIn this special and very personal episode of the Women on Purpose, Toni Eastwood OBE sits down with a close friend Ben Colling whose relationship with this series sponsor Sir Jacobs, didn’t begin as an investor - but as a genuine admirer, user, and believer. This conversation traces the journey from loving the product, to living with it in everyday spaces, to recognising that what had been created was more than beautiful objects - it was a brand with depth, story, and emotional resonance.Toni chats with Ben, who openly shares the realities of the early stage:the brand initially being a side projectthe pivotal moment where growth required commitment and capitalthe clarity around what level of investment was neededand how trust, shared values, and belief shaped the partnershipAt its heart, this episode is about organic investment - the kind that comes from emotional connection, lived experience, and alignment, not pitch decks and pressure.A powerful listen for founders navigating funding, partnerships, and the vulnerable leap from passion project to serious business.Key HighlightsThe brand was loved before it was invested in - The relationship began with genuine admiration for the product - its look, feel, and presence in the home. This started as a side project, not a polished business - The brand was originally a “job on the side,” before reaching a natural turning point.Living with the product changed everything - Seeing and using the pieces daily created a visceral, emotional connection that went far beyond “this is nice.”Investment came from belief, not persuasion - The decision to invest followed deep understanding of the story, values, and future potential — not a hard sell.Partnership was formed with clarity and trust - The investment amount, shareholding structure, and timing were all handled transparently, reinforcing mutual respect.Best Bits“It wasn’t just ‘this is lovely’ - it was something you felt when you picked it up.”“At that stage, it was still a hobby… a good one, but a job on the side.”“You live with it - it becomes part of your home, part of your everyday.”“There’s always that pivotal moment in small business where you realise you can’t grow without investment.”“That was when the partnership was born - and the shareholding structure followed.”Why this episode mattersThis isn’t a funding story. It’s a belief story. In this deeply inspiring conversation, Toni Eastwood OBE, MBA sits down live with Stephan and Neil Jacobs, founders of South African luxury ceramics and fragrance brand Sir Jacobs. What begins as a creative side project in a garage becomes a masterclass in purpose-led entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, partnership, and perseverance. This episode is a powerful listen for creatives, founders, and anyone feeling the pull to leave the familiar behind and build something meaningful.Episode HighlightsHow Sir Jacobs evolved from clothing → leather → fragrance → ceramic artistryWhy combining ancient craftsmanship with modern technology became their differentiatorThe emotional and practical realities of building a business as a married coupleWhy purpose, not perfection, fuels sustainable successHow craftsmanship, sustainability, and luxury can coexistKey Takeaways1. Purpose often starts as discomfortNeil’s shift from law to perfumery wasn’t about abandoning success - it was about honouring creativity that had nowhere to go. Discomfort was the signal, not the problem.2. You don’t need the full plan - just the next brave stepFrom buying a kiln on Facebook Marketplace to teaching themselves ceramics via YouTube, Sir Jacobs proves that momentum beats mastery at the beginning.3. Great brands are built through iteration, not inspirationThere was no single “lightbulb moment.” The brand emerged through repeated experimentation, failed ideas, and relentless refinement.4. Creative mastery is a lifelong pursuitBoth founders openly share that even now, they feel like amateurs - and that’s the point. The joy is in chasing improvement, not arriving at perfection.5. Clear roles save relationships (and businesses)Working together nearly broke them - until they defined ownership. Delineating responsibility transformed both their marriage and the business.6. Sustainability begins with design, not marketingSir Jacobs’ refillable, long-lasting vessels challenge throwaway luxury. True sustainability was designed in from day one.7. People don’t buy products - they buy beliefCustomers don’t just love how Sir Jacobs smells or looks - they connect with the story, the intention, and the people behind it.Best Moments“This opportunity comes once in a lifetime… and not taking it would be very stupid.”“Eventually, you run out of time. You can’t be a full-time lawyer and a full-time creator.”“I still feel like I know nothing and that’s what gets me out of bed every morning.”“When you chase two rabbits, you catch none.”“Our ceramics aren’t meant to be thrown away. They’re meant to outlive us.”“People don’t buy what you do. They buy why you do it.”Why This Episode MattersThis is more than a brand story - it’s a reminder that:You’re allowed to change directionCreativity is not indulgent - it’s essentialBusiness built with soul travels furtherIf you’re standing at a crossroads between what’s safe and what feels true - this conversation is for you.🔗 Find Sir Jacobs🌍 Website:📦 UK www.sirjacobs.co.uk www.sirjacobs.com 20% Discount Use Code LAUNCHUK20🛍️ In-person: Hyde Park Corner Shopping Centre, Johannesburghttps://www.instagram.com/sirjacobs_com/ Hosted on Acast. For this episode, Toni is joined by Helen Tudor a dynamic force in the world of LinkedIn lead generation who is about to switch directions a bit and help people to identify and market to their ideal client. Over the years she has enabled people to transform how they run their business and connect with clients using the power of LinkedIn. This episode is packed with information you can use to take your understanding of your ideal client and turning them into loyal customers to the next level. KEY TAKEAWAYS Be clear on what you do and how it helps your customers. Creating client personas really does work. Helen explains how she does this during the podcast. Regularly update your client persona. As your business changes so will your ideal client.  Even if your business does not change much, the way your ideal clients are living will evolve.  When you bring your ideal client to life in your mind and focus on them you attract them to your business. It is a highly effective form of manifestation. Combining spirituality with strategy is powerful. Understanding and tapping into your energy and applying it in the right way is incredibly effective. LinkedIn does not need to be complicated. The method Helen teaches for LinkedIn, with a few tweaks, works for other social media platforms. Be yourself people appreciate honesty.  Not being you is exhausting and damaging. Invest in yourself and spend money on the things you want and like. BEST MOMENTS “I find clients everywhere. “ “When you change your business, your ideal client is going to change. “ “I had no idea how to really use LinkedIn or how to market myself online, I just went with radical honesty.“  “I spent from the age of 24 till 44 basically collecting certificates … it was driven by my demons - that I never thought I was good enough.· “I think I'm open and out of the closet with my wooness.” “In two weeks of taking my advice, she signed up 10 new clients.” ABOUT THE GUEST https://www.linkedin.com/in/helentudor https://www.facebook.com/LinkedInLeadGen WORK WITH ME If you're ready for greater clarity and confidence to create the freedom and alignment, you crave in business and life. For this episode, Toni is joined by Amy Bird, the CEO of Connolly´s Scrap Metals and Countrywide Metals, the founder of Women in Recycling and a former model. She explains what it was like for her to take the reins of a family business in what is still a male-dominated industry. She and Toni discuss how to be successful in that environment and what women can do to support each other and break down the barriers that are still there. Amy shares the ups and downs, including how she and her husband coped with being ripped off and losing a business worth millions, despite winning a court case against the perpetrators. She explains how she and her husband found the strength to rebuild and create a new six-figure business. Toni and Amy discuss finding a strong why and building resilience.   KEY TAKEAWAYS ·      There are still not many women working in scrap or recycling. At last year´s industry dinner, only 6 of the 500 guests were women. ·      Women are still not helping other women enough. ·      When Amy and her husband were conned out of their business, they were devastated but still found the strength to start again. ·      Having a strong why helped them to work their way back up to owning a highly profitable business. ·      Physical exercise massively helped Amy to cope and work to rebuild. ·      Taking little steps each day stops you from wallowing. ·      Don´t let others project their insecurities onto you. ·      You don´t have to tick every single requirement to apply for the job you really want. ·      Learn to trade the money you earn multiple times.   BEST MOMENTS “I just felt this real pull that Bella (her daughter) would get to go on and do at least as much as I did, and hopefully more. “ “It's easy to, like you say, roll over and just wallow in this, but equally, it is easy to take some little steps every day, “ “It just really befuddles me that there aren't more women that are actually supporting women. “ ABOUT THE GUEST https://www.linkedin.com/in/amy-bird-connolleys https://www.instagram.com/womeninrecycling https://www.womeninscrap.com   WORK WITH ME If you're ready for greater clarity and confidence to create the freedom and alignment, you crave in business and life. For this episode, Toni is joined by Pam Greenhill who runs the popular YT channel Bloo´s Self Reliance urban homesteading and wellness channel. Through it, and her hands-on workshops Pam teaches people how to grow, stock up on food bargains and preserve while on a budget. She is a qualified chef, nutritionist, dietitian, herbalist and naturopath, mother of 2 sons and foster mother of 72 children.    KEY TAKEAWAYS Relying on supermarkets is expensive and makes it hard to eat well. Only a small % of the food they sell is healthy and nutritious. Teach your kids how to grow, cook and preserve food. That is how Pam learned. Community matters, you are stronger together. Even an unexpected big bill can leave you unable to afford food for a few months, so it makes sense to be prepared and have food for emergencies. Be prepared in little ways for example having a blanket in the car on cold days. Plan your meals and shop around for ingredients.  Only some things in discount stores are cheaper. Make your washing powder. Live mindfully.   BEST MOMENTS “Every spare inch of my front and back garden is growing food. “ “Preparedness is more about life happening but you not being inconvenienced by it. “ “What you can grow yourself, or what is locally grown is so completely different. It's like they were grown on different planets. . “   ABOUT THE GUEST Pam Greenhill is a dietician, nutritionist, herbalist, naturopath, retired chef, creator of the Rainwater Self Sufficiency program and owner of The Bloo Pixie Studios which is soon to be registered as a PCIC.  A single parent at 17 with 2 sons, Pam has fostered 72+ children. Raising them in a home where growing and garden-to-table cooking is the norm. Toni is joined by Andrew Waite who has spent most of his working life focused on adult education and chairing organizations like Mencap. For 30+ years he´s worked tirelessly for diversity and inclusion and now runs three community interest organizations all of which are having a significant positive impact. KEY TAKEAWAYS People in the LGBQT community still suffer a lot of bias. Most of which is subliminal or unconscious, but still harms the person subjected to it. Most companies are still not doing enough about diversity. Many jump on the bandwagon of inclusion events for social media purposes. Recruit properly, never employ someone or accept a volunteer because you are desperate. You have to know your clients to truly provide them with what they need. Lots of people taking lots of small steps is a highly effective way to make true change. When setting up a business you need to be realistic about how fast it will grow. In year 1 Andrew´s turnover was only £800. Not having a board or trustees to run everything past can make it easier to get things done, which is a benefit of setting up your own business. BEST MOMENTS “Pride is a protest. It's just actually turned into more of a celebration these days. “ “You have to stick to your principles … then you've got the respect of the community you want to work with. “ “Our job is to be wise on how we're spending our money because we do make a difference depending on where we put our money.” Andrew Waite Bio Andrew Waite is an entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in education and community work across various sectors. Today, Toni is joined by Mindy Gibbins-Klein, an expert in developing authors and thought leaders. Over the past 20 years, Mindy has trained and coached 1000s in 18 countries and published 14 books that teach how to lead with both head and heart. Mindy explains what a thought leader is and how to become one. She also shares how to use the written word and language to get back in touch with who you are so that you can make progress and help more people.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Put your best ideas out there then let people decide for themselves whether you are a thought leader or not. Don´t just publish anything. It has to be good, and you have to write it yourself. Consuming too much of other people´s content clouds your mind and dilutes your ideas. Mindfulness, journalling, and affirmations are powerful, but you have to do them in the right way. Mindy shares how. Spend time reflecting with intention. Every day, pause, ask yourself what went well, and what went wrong, and decide what to work on tomorrow. Writing is powerful. It helps you as well as others. Find good female mentors. You will need several mentors throughout your life. Become a giver.   BEST MOMENTS “Dig deep for your expertise and showcase that, and then you'll be known as an expert with proper substance. “ “Part of my work is about helping people get back to themselves.“ “Reflect with intention.“ “Journal these things out but make true statements.”   EPISODE RESOURCES https://giving1percent.com/ https://mindygk.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5W2AGg2nMo ABOUT MINDY Mindy Gibbins-Klein is an international speaker, coach, and author of 14 books, with her clients publishing over 1,000 titles. Toni & Lesley are joined by Sarah Churchman OBE a global leader in DEI and Workplace Wellbeing, with over 20 years of experience driving innovative, data-driven solutions that align diversity initiatives with business success, mostly for PwC where she spent 37 years in total. Sarah is known for her pioneering work in de-biasing HR processes and fostering inclusive environments where diversity thrives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone has biases. The lack of diversity at the top demonstrates that there is a lack of equality in the workplace. Inequality outside of work plays a significant role in inequality at work. If you take on the bulk of domestic chores, and child and elder care duties, you don´t have as much time and energy left for work. Plan for what you want to do in your career. You don´t have to be liked to do well, you have to be respected. Get yourself seen - network with those above you and people outside of your firm. To get to the top you need a sponsor. Be authentic and do work that you enjoy. BEST MOMENTS “None of us are as inclusive as we think we are. “ “It takes certain people to sit above the parapet to get things done. “ “My husband would say I am stubborn. I say I am persistent. “ THE GUEST Sarah Churchman is a pioneering global DEI and Workplace Wellbeing leader with over 20 years of experience in professional services. She takes a data-driven and innovative approach to developing solutions that align DEI and Wellbeing initiatives with business goals. Sarah is a trusted coach to senior leaders, known for her ability to guide them through challenging changes. Her groundbreaking work in de-biasing HR processes, particularly in Talent Acquisition, has been foundational in making organizations like PwC more diverse. Today, Toni & Lesley are joined by Camilla Grayley. For many years, Camilla worked in the corporate world before following her lifelong passion setting up her successful garden design firm, which also resulted in her becoming a writer and author. This episode is packed with tips for new entrepreneurs and provides an interesting insight into what people are investing in for their gardens.   KEY TAKEAWAYS A nice garden adds value to any house. Spotting new trends is a great way of boosting sales and attracting new clients. Social media is important, but don´t forget to tap into older forms of marketing. Be patient with your marketing and consistent. Networking and word of mouth are still important. Regularly pause and check that your business is still heading in the right direction. Little changes have a big cumulative impact on the environment, so gardens are important. Invest in rainwater harvesting.   BEST MOMENTS “If you can get through the 1st 5 years you can get through the rest. “ “Put the cabling in now, so it is there when you decide you do want outside lights. “ “Just a small group of plants in your garden is equivalent to having 8 mindfulness sessions.”     ABOUT CAMILLA GRAYLEY   My love for gardening started early, helping in the family garden, and spending my pocket money on plants. After studying Ecology and Environment Management, I pursued a formal horticultural education, earning an RHS certificate and a Diploma in Garden Design.   Now, I create gardens of all sizes for all kinds of clients. I delight in watching the garden come to life and evolve and pausing to soak it all in with a drink in hand while enjoying the local wildlife.   You can contact me here : https://www.instagram.com/camillagrayley https://www.facebook.com/Camillagrayleydesign https://www.pinterest.co.uk/camillagrayleydesign https://twitter.com/camillagrayley https://linkedin.com/camillagrayley     WORK WITH ME   If you're ready for greater clarity and confidence to create the freedom and alignment, you crave in in business and life. For this episode, Toni & Lesley are joined by Stephanie Shaw a menopause educator, health & wellness speaker and host of the Hello Hot Flash podcast. She helps women navigate menopause and reduce the impact the symptoms have on their lives.  She, Toni and Lesley share some simple yet powerful tips to help you tap into the power of keeping a health journal, moving regularly, eating right and taking care of your mental and emotional health. KEY TAKEAWAYS Even now, most women do not know much about menopause. Yet, with the right advice most of the symptoms can be reduced and sometimes eliminated. Educating our girls and boys about menopause is important. Working out like crazy creates another stressor for your already over-stressed body to deal with. Everybody´s menopause is different. There are 100+ different symptoms. Keep a health journal to help you identify patterns and triggers. Looking after your mental and emotional health is crucial. It takes a lot of stress off your body. Hot flashes can be triggered when we get emotional. Fix your gut. Avoid processed foods. To avoid temptation, don´t walk every supermarket aisle. Go straight to the fresh food.  Always have some pre-prepared healthy food in the fridge. Preparation is key.  Use plus 1, minus 1. Choose one bad thing and stop doing that. At the same time, choose  one thing that is good for you and start doing that. Going through menopause is not easy, but many women find that they emerge from it with healthier habits and feeling far more in tune with who they are. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you are eating about 90% right you´ll be good. ’ ‘We call it the fundies, the fundamentals – eat, move, sleep. ’ ‘Taking care of yourself mind body and soul is super important. ’ ABOUT THE GUEST Stephanie Shaw, Podcast Host, Menopause Educator Stephanie Shaw is a health & wellness speaker, course creator, and the host of the highly popular podcast "Hello Hot Flash." Toni & Lesley are joined by V Chamberlin-Kidd a core shamanic practitioner who also taps into the power of plant medicine by using essential oils. In this episode, she talks about her work, family life, her recent ADHD diagnosis, and her autism.  V explains what a shamanic practitioner does, how it reconnects us with nature, feeds our soul and enables us to become an active part of the globe´s vast ecosystem once again. KEY TAKEAWAYS Centuries ago, people from different totally unconnected cultures independently developed shamanic practices and healing knowledge that were very similar. It is this ancient universal wisdom that modern shamanic practitioners use. We have become detached from nature. Truly reconnecting with it feeds the soul. As we go through life we lose bits of our soul. You can get these back. Communication is particularly difficult with ADHD. If you find something annoys you, work out why. Neurodiverse people´s nervous systems are dysregulated which makes them highly strung. Accept yourself, admit your mistake and forgive yourself. You can learn the things you struggle with; often you just need to be taught it differently. BEST MOMENTS ‘You can lose bits of yourself (your soul) … especially as children when you´re put in a position you can´t cope with.’ ‘No brains the same, it´s like a fingerprint.’ ‘A lot of us are running on half batteries. ’ ABOUT V https://www.linkedin.com/in/vchamberlinkidd/ https://www.essentiallyevolving.co.uk/ V Chamberlin-Kidd Bio Hi, you amazing person, I'm V of Essentially Evolving. For this episode, Toni is joined by Heather White Boardroom Matchmaker, Networking & Personal Brand expert, and founder of the Boardroom Ready program. Heather explains how to read the room, break the ice, build your confidence and network in a strategic way. She also talks about leveraging online tools and the role networking plays in securing board places. Heather provides an invaluable insight into how the market works. KEY TAKEAWAYS Network in a strategic way. If you want to be a non-exec you have got to network, that is where most AIM and SMEs recruit their non-execs from. Sometimes you have to wing it a bit. You only have to be a step ahead of someone to be able to help them. Observe others and understand body language. Everyone lacks confidence in certain situations. Heather shares several simple ways to overcome this. Building relationships is the main aim of networking. Extra sales may be generated later, but that should not be your primary goal when networking. Be a good listener. Educate softly. The age of non-execs has fallen drastically, so there is now a lot of competition. BEST MOMENTS ‘To get over fear you´ve gotta put yourself into that fearful situation.’ ‘If you're not networked into chairs and non-execs, you just won't be considered.’ ‘Network, personal brand and LinkedIn are all key components of your success to find a non-exec role.  ’ About Heather White Heather White is a Boardroom Matchmaker, Networking & Personal Brand expert, and founder of the Boardroom Ready program, answering the question: "How do you get a boardroom opportunity if you have no previous boardroom experience?" As a networking & personal brand expert, with decades of experience helping thousands of professionals network strategically, Heather has frequent conversations with clients struggling to find a NED role without proven board experience. So, in 2017 she created the Boardroom Ready programme to address just this question. The Boardroom Ready programme is a personal development and leadership experience working with both HR and senior executives to help them gain board experience for internal succession planning as well as helping make the transition from executive to non-executive as a portfolio professional.  Since then, Heather has matched over 40 executives onto boards to gain valuable commercial board experience to support their portfolio and executive careers.  We understand the journey you are embarking on and have experts to support you every step of the way. Heather’s clients are all -C1 and -C2 level from the FTSE and equivalent.  Heather White CEO and Founder Boardroom Ready by Smarter Networking  LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/heatherwhitenetworkingexpert/ WORK WITH ME If you're ready for greater clarity and confidence to create the freedom and alignment, you crave in business and life. For this episode, Toni & Lesley are joined by Andrea Edmondson a specialist performance consultant & coach who uses polyvagal theory to help people develop the skills to navigate their nervous system. Enabling them to enjoy a calmer and happier life. Andrea focuses on helping leaders do this. Once they change, the way they understand others and act changes too, which greatly benefits the people who work for them and improves society. KEY TAKEAWAYS How you behave impacts whether people feel safe, which in turn affects their behaviour. The autonomic nervous system drives our behaviour. If it is out of balance how we feel, and act is too. Your nervous system can be fixed. Most neurodiverse people have nervous systems that have become disorganised. The nervous system has 3 not 2 pathways. The vagus nerve splits in two. If you feel numb and are only going through the motions, work on your nervous system. If you´ve been in fight or flight for too long your gut doesn´t work properly. If your body lives in a state where it does not feel safe, e.g. there´s not enough food, it changes the way your brain is wired. BEST MOMENTS ‘Understanding how the body communicates with the brain is critical.’ ‘When the ventral vagal is out of reach you´re always striving but never satisfied.’ ‘The most important thing for the nervous system is another person's nervous system. ’ ABOUT THE GUEST Andrea Edmonson is a Performance Consultant & Coach who helps high achievers optimise their well-being and performance using a unique, neuroscience-driven approach. Her compassionate and pragmatic style attracts forward-thinking individuals and organisations from around the world wanting to get the best out of themselves without burning out. For this episode, Toni & Lesley are joined by Elizabeth McPhearson the CEO of Carers Plus Yorkshire which supports and provides recognition for 3000+  unpaid family carers. Some of whom are as young as 8 years old. In this eye-opening episode, Elizabeth shares the harsh realities of running a charity in the UK.  She also provides an insight into what it is like to be a carer while holding down a full-time job. Something that she and her sister are currently doing. KEY TAKEAWAYS If the 10.6 million unpaid carers suddenly said “We are not doing it anymore” the UK government would face an annual bill of £162 billion. Carers allowance is incredibly low, yet a significant percentage of carers do not qualify for it. The available help is very disjointed and hard to access. Helping carers to navigate the complex systems consumes a lot of time and resources. The government tends to fund things for short periods meaning that effective schemes have to be wrapped up after only a couple of years. Much of the work that charities do is heavily regulated which means they have to hire and pay qualified professionals and cannot use volunteers for most roles. When you become a carer your relationship with your loved one inevitably changes. When you are caring it is important to do something for you too. Elizabeth shares what she did. BEST MOMENTS “If you've got carers allowance and you get your pension, it stops.” “This short-term funding is just not good for any of us.” “(Caring is) It´s hard graft and it can cause you to lose your job, and you can be in financial hardship.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.carersplus.net/ Contact at Carers Plus - 01723 850155 staff@carersplus.net admin@carersplus.net ABOUT THE GUEST Elizabeth Mcphearson CEO of Carers Plus Yorkshire I am an unpaid carer for my mother who has dementia and extreme frailty, my sister and I are her primary carers and we both have other jobs, which can be very difficult to juggle at times. Therefore, I appreciate the difficulty in accessing services as well as understanding the emotional and physical impact it can have on you. I want to ensure that my voice is heard, my experiences are shared, and all those carers and vulnerable people we support are at the forefront of both health and social care agendas. My work with unpaid carers and families of all ages is part of what drives me to keep working hard, we need to keep unpaid family carers high on the political agenda. It could happen to any of us, and we need to have an accessible network of high-quality support to provide information, advice and emotional support that is free for those who need it the most.  Elizabeth’s LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabeth-mcpherson-77913a44/ All other social contacts are @CPYorks WORK WITH ME If you're ready for greater clarity and confidence to create the freedom and alignment, you crave in in business and life. Diane Watson is a relationship-focused financial planner with over 30 years of experience and the author of the Amazon bestseller "She Can Prosper”. She joins Toni and Lesley to talk about financial empowerment, sharing invaluable insights on women's financial independence, the importance of financial planning, and overcoming societal barriers. From childhood money mindsets to practical tips for business owners, this episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to take control of their financial future. KEY TAKEAWAYS Early childhood experiences and parental attitudes significantly shape our financial mindsets and behaviours in adulthood. Women often face unique challenges in financial planning, including being more risk averse and juggling multiple roles as caregivers, professionals, and household managers. Financial education is lacking in schools, leaving many adults ill-equipped to handle personal finances and make informed decisions about money. Business owners, especially women, need to consider protective measures like insurance to safeguard their businesses and personal finances in case of illness or inability to work. The lack of financial knowledge can lead to stress, poor decision-making, and missed opportunities for growth and prosperity. Societal expectations and gender roles continue to impact women's relationship with money, often limiting their financial independence and decision-making power. Writing and sharing personal stories about financial journeys can be both cathartic for the author and inspirational for readers facing similar challenges. Networking and collaborating with like-minded individuals can provide support, inspiration, and opportunities for personal and professional growth in financial matters. BEST MOMENTS  "I think ultimately a lot of people get their information from their parents, don't they? Which is either a good thing or it's not a good thing."
