As we come Face to Face with Jesus today, we see him meet two people - one who is excluded and the other who is completely helpless. And yet we will not see those two as people unlike us, the encouragement will be to identify with them and see how Jesus meets their deepest need.
Today we meet Jesus in his first season of public ministry. Simon Peter sees Jesus miraculous catch of a huge number of fish and then is challenged by Jesus to leave his nets and join in the fishing for people. We feel the same challenge from Jesus echoing down through the ages to us today.
Today we are focused on Jesus’ first words as a teacher. And his profound statement that he comes in fulfilment of the great promise in Isaiah 61. Plus the implications of that for not just first century potential followers, but for our lives today.
In one of the bible’s climactic moments, Jesus goes three rounds with the devil. Right at the start of the bible, there’s a prediction that the woman’s son would crush the devil’s head, but be struck in the process. As we read this passage for a moment we think it might be now, but the final showdown doesn’t happen till later in Luke. In the meantime there’s lots to learn about our own struggles with temptation - how to approach this and how not to.
Today significantly we see Jesus as the fulfilment of Old Testament hopes. He’s revealed to us as at his Baptism as the Messiah but also as the Suffering Servant. Plus we see him annointed by the Spirit for a ministry that will be universal.
It’s a super challenging day today as we see Jesus and his parents with differing priorities and Dominic Steele asks what lessons are there for teens, parents and for all of us from Jesus here.
Today as we start 2026 together we reflect on a model example of faith, Jesus’ mother Mary. We see her magnifying her Lord and rejoicing in her saviour and we are challenged to follow her example.
We also look at some ways that people have either underestimated or overestimated Mary and seek together to see her as she is presented in Luke’s gospel as pointing away from herself and to her great Lord.
As we finish 2025 and turn the page to 2026 we go back to first principles in Christian Ministry and learn from the Apostle Paul that the greatest power in all the world is the power of God is in the gospel of Christ shared.
We celebrate the birth of Jesus in a moment when Sydney is a hurting distressed city, following the terror attack at Bondi 12 days ago.
Today – in his Christmas address on Luke 2:1-14 - Dominic Steele focuses focus on how Jesus, the baby boy, born in a Jewish stable in the town of the great King of Israel, David, is able to save the world, by giving us vertical peace with God, and consequential horizontal peace with each other.
Today we focus on someone who was faithful to God, and yet things hadn’t worked out as they had hoped. Dominic Steele looks at how God formed Zechariah and Elizabeth and how he might form us today.
How should we approach the bible? The New Testament? The Gospels? Luke opens his two volume account of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus - implicitly warning against gullibility or skepticism - and promising to help us come to know the certainty of the things we have been taught.
As we approach the coming of the Lord Jesus, we want to see ourselves ready and others ready to meet him. What part do we play as individuals in taking ownership for our spiritual growth? What about leaders? And what part does God play? And who in the end is responsible?
The Lord Jesus is coming back. It’s going to be an amazing day. We don’t know when. It will be a surprise. We need to prepare - by encouraging each other, and building each other up.
Our key focus in this season is how we as a church can be better focused on the return of Jesus Christ. This ramps up today with half a chapter from the Apostle Paul teaching us about the return of Jesus, how we will meet him, and what an encouragement this should be. Join us as Dominic Steele helps us to see ‘The Coming Day!’
While last week we thought about the ministry that Paul conducted, today our focus in on ‘The Pastor’s Heartbeat’. We see Paul’s pastoral affection, his sacrificial service, his clear priority, his real joy, and his earnest prayer. We are challenged about how we all might be more like the Apostle Paul in the ministry that we engage in at Village.
Today we think about ideal Christian ministry. We are looking at the ministry of the church in Thessalonica and think about what we can learn for 21st century inner west Sydney.
Today we hear about the church that we might imitate. The model church that God’s apostle Paul holds out to us as a role model for us to imitate. Join us as Dominic Steele opens up 1 Thessalonians 1.
Do you ever feel like God has abandoned you? Why were the words of this psalm some of the last words Jesus said before He died?
Join us as Henry Pascoe helps us to explore this pivotal part of God's word.
All of us love love. With our community, country and world often declaring that “love is love”, how can we even know what love is? The answer is hidden in plain sight in the first letter of John in the New Testament. Not only do we discover that God is love, 1 John 4 explains how that love is fully revealed in Jesus’ selfless sacrifice.
But there’s more. Our love for each other is to follow the lead of how God first loved us in Jesus.
Today is super personal as we look at our own hearts - and our tendency to want to ‘build a name for ourselves’ through our career, through our home, through our children or even through our carefully curated digital image of ourselves.
How should an inner west Christian - members of the parish church in Babylon - approach life today?.
