Description

"This Album..." with William Hann.

The podcast where each episode a guest and I deep dive an album of their choice.

It could be an album from any artist, any genre, any year.

We're going to discuss the songs, the shows, the artwork. But what I really want is to know is the emotional attachment my guest has to the album.

Who knows, we might even have a bloody laugh while doing it!

Dry January is over, thank god for mildly damp February. There were pints, there movies, there were books, there were gigs. Finally, we have culutre again!
George James is a music mogul and as CEO of Be-Hookd has achieved great things in the world of music marketing. But before being in boardrooms with Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones and Franz Ferdindand, George was in a band with me!Am I claiming all of Georges success is down to the core memories he was making with me in 2006? Yes. Yes, I am.This episode was recorded live at You fest and it was a pleasure to chat on stage with an old friend of mine to talk about the old days, modern success and everything in between.
"FUCKING CROSSAINT!"Episode 64 is a big guest discussing one of THE great albums - It's Murkage Dave!Dave is set to release his third (and easily his best) album to date on March 6th - Brut Thoughts. The record seems to capture the mood of the nation and touches on social inequality, racism, religion, friendship and loss. But through the hardships, there’s moments of real joy.On this episode we discuss his upcoming release while also looking back at Nu Rave Fashion faux pas's, Manchester club nights and Jamie T's almighty - Panic Prevention. Best enjoyed with a can of Stella in Salvador.
In her first interview since calling it quits with Piri and Tommy, Piri and I discuss the split, the future and advice for young people looking for careers in the music industry.Big thanks to the good people of You Fest for having us on stage for this special episode.
Can you truly dissect an entire months worth of culture into one 40 minute podcast? We'll give it a go.For this special episode I'm joined by return guest and dear friend Robert Ball, live on stage at You Fest. Going forward I intend to break the format once a month and discuss the month in music with a friend. So for the first ever monthly round up we discuss The Cribs, Kurupt FM, Harry Styles, jumping out of planes and Matty Healy committing serious crimes against indie.Enjoy!
For episode 61 I'm joined by a man that has become the face of British festival culture and a social media sensation, it's Russ Festival Friend! For this episode we look back to Plan B's seminal 2010 album while also talking about Russ' passion for country music, The 1975 and how why he's no longer aloud to have any more meet ups at Reading Festival. It's a real fun one and best enjoyed in the company of your mates over a warm can of beer.
It's the big 6-0 and for episode 60 I'm joined by a man that is truly an expert on his chosen album, because he's literally written a book on it!Ben Cardew is a music journalist, radio host, podcaster and DJ who joined me from Barcleona to deep dive Stereolab's - Transient Random Noise Bursts with Announcements from 1993.In 2021, Ben relesed his first book - Daft Punk's Discovery - A Future Unfurled and in March will release his second - Space Age Bachelor Pad Music - The Story of Stereolab in 20 Songs. It's a really fun episode where we discuss the crushing dispointment of being a Morrissey fan, reading French books to look cool and robots wearing wellies.Viva Norwich!
For episode 59 I'm joined by actor, comedian and social media sensation - Ed Jones! You'll be familiar with Ed's social media antics or maybe you'll know him from his comedic work with sketch group Crybabies. But if you've been following his work for long enough you'll know that Ed started his career in the arts as a John Mayer inspired singer songwriter. We get into all of it as we discuss Mayer's seminal 2006 album - Continuum while also asking the big questions, such as - "How much sex was Mick Hucknall REALLY having?"Best enjoyed with "a gentlemens' Guinness"
It’s the milestone every millennial has been fearing, but January 2026 marks 20 years since Arctic Monkeys released their debut album and (not be too hyperbolic, but…) EVERYTHING changed. In true James Murphy style, I can say “I was there…”So for this special solo episode of the podcast I run through my early Arctics experiences and the impact they had on me
2025 was the best year of my life and it started in glorious fashion with Chris Arnold as a the first ever guest on the show. So what better way to kick off 2026, then by going full circle and welcoming back Mr Beatles Dub Club himself, it's Chris Arnold!!!!Chris's first appearance is still the most listened to episode to date and somehow, for some reason we did the unthinkable and managed to literally reach the top of Spotify's Music Podcast Chart. Mad!In this episode Chris and I get on the cans to discuss subcultures in suburbia, second hand smoke at Brixton Academy and kidnapping rock royalty. We also talk a little about NOFX's Punk in Drublic.Best enjoyed while graffitiing a school desk.Enjoy!
It's part 3 of the Harbison trilogy and don't all the best trilogies come in 3's?It's the most wonderful time of the year and for this special episode you can enjoy joy two particularly jolly men talk all things festive. You can hear me champion Taylor Swift while John bashes Home Alone. You can hear me champion Carly Rae Jepsen wile John questions the relevance of Brussell Sprouts in 2025.But you can also hear us hotly debate the cultural importance of pints on the 24th of December. It's a lot of fun and best enjoyed on the big telly between the Queens Speech and The Snowman while you argue with a racist uncle.
"Please sir, can I have some more John Harbison?""MORE JOHN HARBISON?!! Why, yes boy. Yes you can."I've listened to 261 albums (at time of press) this year and in this special episode John and I talk all about our personal favourites with a healthy dose of additional nonsense. There's Geese, there's Shame, there's hardcore bands and there's emo girls gone good.Would love to know, what's. your favourite albums of 2025.
Live music has probably never been more exhillirating and culturally enriching then it was in 2025. To give this important episode the level of expertise it deserves I'm joined by a music mogul, champion of grassroots venues and charisma machine - John Harbison!John and I have been friends for neary 20 years and we have so much fun discussing a varierty of musical experiences ranging from Stadium filling titans to grime in Slovakia to sweaty topless Bristolians. We talk Oasis, WU LYF, Getdown Services, Pulp, JME, Radio Free Alice, Iggy Pop, Black Lips, Ugly and the almighty Kneecap.
We've had to dig deep into the archives for this one....12 months ago, after being asked around 15 times, my very talented and dear friend Rick agreed to be a guinea pig for this podcast. We doubted if it would ever see the light of day, but the time is right and the time is now. So this weeks episode is basically a demo for what the podcast would become, despite the rudimentary interview techniques from me, there are some really funny moments shared between two guys that have been friends for nearly 20 years.Enjoy responsibly!
Truck Festival have possibly pulled the line up of the year for 2026.3 of my literal favourite bands of all time will be performing in that field in Oxfordshire and I can't wait to return to Truck with my friends and have a lovely, lovely time. So there's only one thing for it.... emergency podcast! In this episode, we look back at the lovely time we had at Truck 2025, look forward to all the glorious indie that awaits us at Truck 2026 and we alos discuss a truly impressive criminal operation that we were victims to at a Wombats gig in 2008.Also, annoyingly, we forgot to mention that Vanessa Carlton is on the bloomin' line up!!! That is going to be one of the moments of the summer and I can not wait to cry my eyes out to A Thousand Miles.Enjoy repsonsibly and stay safe.
Episode 51 of the podcast is one I've wanted to happen for a while... it’s Amelia Bayler! Amelia is a creative force of nature in the world of music, comedy and musical comedy, and she effortlessly straddles the worlds of Nu Rave, French Touch and Chart friendly house bangers in her musical taste. It's the first time covering a compilation album on the podcast and the two of us have loads of fun deep diving this Ministry of Sounds, The Annual 15 from 2010 while Amelia also flys the flag for compilation albums as a whole. But if Ministry of Sound is not your thing we also discuss boobs, ordering drinks while gurning and Weight Watchers yoghurts.Best enjoyed while on ecstasy with the girlies.
Episode 50 feels like a monumental occasion and it just so happens I've got a monumental guest to mark the big 5.0.  From Irish Post- Punk noise makers Sprints, it's Sam Mcann! We recorded this episode just before show time at a landmark gig for the band at London's Troxy. The iconic venue was awash that evening in a wave of screaming guitars and cathartic chorus'. It was a hell of an evening...Anyone that's into hearing about Simpsons t-shirts, Ed Sheeran tattoos, face steaming and language barriers at music festivals will get a LOT out of this very fun episode. But most importantly, we deep dive Sam's relationship with the groundbreaking 2016 release from Bon Iver, 22, a Million. If Sprints two albums to date aren't enough to keep you satisfied, Sam does give a little tease about what Sprints fans can expect in 2026.Enjoy!
I have Oasis'd!When Propstore held the world's larger ever Oasis memorabilia auction at The Cumberland Hotel, Kyle and Tony were in town to take part in a Q&A happening ahead of the items going under the hammer.I'm a man of opportunity and was lucky enough to grab twenty minutes with the two of them to discuss all things from Boardwalk 94 to Live 25.Tony shared some great stories of his first drum kit purchase, the biggest compliment he's ever had for his drumming and the mad time he first met fellow Oasis drummer Zak Starkey. It's a break from the normal format and a bit shotter then normal, but it's a VERY fun one.Enjoy!
"Who are ya?! Who are ya?! Who are ya?!"I'm William Hann, host of the podcast, "THIS Album..." thanks for asking. For episode 48 I'm joined by a man so passionate about football, he's actually created an award nominated podcast about it, from Cultras, it's James Allen!Jesus, where do I start?James, is a comedian, broadcaster, writer and actor and it was a joy to be welcomed into his home to discuss LCD Soundsytem's ground breaking sophmore album, Sound of Silver.Sound of Silver is widely considered to be one of THE seminal New York albums. In this humble podcasters opinion, it might just be the greatest album of all time. So this is a BIG episode. The album touches on hedonism, loss, friendship, growing up, gentrification, hipsterdom, escape, identity and it does all this with a level of gravitas and intelligence that was unrrivalled in the mid 00's or any era for that matter! So rather then discussing these things we talk about getting high on lemon sips, Liverpool's Ecru away kit in the 90's and regional table tennis tournaments on The Wirral. Best enjoyed home in the late night.
I can’t believe it’s taken 47 episodes to get here, but finally we get to cover Arctic Monkeys seismic debut album - Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. An album this important requires a great guest and I was in VERY good hands for this one. From Spill The Sound and behind the decks of the indiest of discos near you, it’s Louise Schofield!Louise’s content is a joy to behold. On Spill The Sound Louise gives a platform for young bands to have the kind of MTV / T4 experience that those a generation behind took for granted. It’s also, a proper laugh and loads of fun. Louise and I had such great time talking about the impact four lads from Sheffield had on us. We talk haircuts, drinking in parks, first gig confessions, pre drinks in Nottingham. All the important subjects. Untuck those socks from your trackie bottoms, believe the hype and enjoy episode 47 of “THIS Album…!”
