Frequently Asked Questions: Tarot, Witchcraft, & DivinationWelcome to Season 14 of Every Day Tarot! This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.Today’s question: How do I read tarot intuitively?Reading intuitively means listening to your inner voice, noticing what stands out in the imagery, and allowing the message to unfold in real time. In this episode, we look at how to move past the pressure to be “right,” and why intuitive practice turns tarot into a living conversation. What we explore in this episode:Why intuition sits at the heart of tarot and witchcraftHow tarot acts as a mirror for inner wisdomMoving through the fear of being wrongEveryday practices that strengthen intuitionWhat Does Intuitive Reading Mean?It is natural to feel hesitant to practice tarot without a guidebook in hand. Many of us grew up in systems that rewarded the “right answer” and discouraged uncertainty. That can make reading tarot feel intimidating. What if you misinterpret a card? What if someone disagrees?Intuitive tarot invites a different approach. It encourages us to notice what draws our attention—a symbol on the card, a memory that surfaces, an emotion that stirs. These impressions matter, and when you speak your impressions aloud, you are giving yourself permission to trust and listen to your intuition speaking through your deck.Trust Your Inner VoiceThe truth is, tarot isn’t about proving yourself right. It’s about opening a space for reflection and dialogue—between you, the cards, and whatever wisdom wants to emerge in the moment. Instead of asking, “Did I get this card right?” you begin to ask, “What does this card awaken in me right now?”Over time, this practice shifts from seeking fixed answers to cultivating an ongoing relationship with your inner knowing. With each reading, you learn to trust yourself a little more. These moments are where intuition lives, and where tarot’s deepest magic takes root.If you haven't listened to my other seasons yet, go check them out!💭 Today's Tarot Pull:From Norse Goddess Rune Oracle by Rebecca Joy Stark and illustrated by Sharon McLeod, I pulled the Berkana Birch Goddess - Growth, Birth, RenewalThis card reminds us that intuition takes root slowly but steadily. You might wonder if there’s a “correct” way, if you’re doing it wrong, or if the way you shuffle affects your reading. In this episode, I'll share the many ways you can connect with your deck through the simple act of shuffling. What we explore in this episode:The difference between bridge shuffling, overhand shuffling, and mixing cards by handWhy deck size, shape, and texture might influence your shuffling styleHow intention and energy matter more than the mechanicsWhy there’s no “wrong way” to shuffle as long as it feels alignedShuffling Until It Feels RightI grew up playing card games with my family, so I learned to shuffle the way you’d shuffle a standard deck—using the bridge shuffle. That’s the one where you split the deck, bend the cards into an arc, and let them fall together in a neat snap.My personal routine:I shuffle at least three times when starting fresh.I cut the deck with my left hand and place half to the side. Then I draw cards from the remaining stack in my right hand.Shuffling randomizes the deck, but it’s also ritual. It’s your moment to breathe, focus on the question, and let the deck tune in with your energy. Some readers invite the querent (the person receiving the reading) to shuffle, others keep it personal—it’s all about what feels true to you. Here are a few alternatives:Overhand shuffle - Holding the deck in one hand and pulling small stacks into the other.Mixing on the table - Spreading cards out on a flat surface and mixing them around with your hands.Hand-to-hand shuffle - Shifting cards back and forth between your palms until you feel ready to stop.💭 Today's Tarot Pull:From Norse Goddess Rune Oracle, I pulled Hagalaz (Hel) - Chaos, Destruction, and Renewal.Transformation often begins in chaos. Frequently Asked Questions: Tarot, Witchcraft, & DivinationWelcome to Season 14 of Every Day Tarot! This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.Today’s question: How do I get back into tarot? If you’ve fallen out of your tarot routine, or perhaps lost touch with your cards, consider this your reminder that the magic never really leaves. Your deck isn’t keeping score. It’s not disappointed that you missed the last full moon, or that it’s been months since you last shuffled. Tarot is always ready to meet you right where you are, no matter how much time has passed. In this episode, we’ll explore gentle ways to restart your tarot practice and help you reconnect with your deck and intuition.Release the guilt, build small and steady habitsGetting back into tarot isn’t about “catching up” or doing it perfectly. Even one card pulled with intention is enough to spark reconnection and remind you that your deck is always waiting for you. The most important step is to release pressure. One-card pulls - Shuffle once, draw a single card, and spend some time noticing what it stirs in you.Tarot snapshots - Snap a photo of your daily card and give it a one-word caption. Let it be playful.Weekly check-ins - Choose one day each week to pull a card for the week ahead. These simple practices reawaken your tarot muscles without adding pressure.Use Natural Rhythms as AnchorsIf daily cards feel overwhelming, let nature guide you.Lunar cycles - Pull cards on new and full moons.Seasonal markers - Solstices, equinoxes, and sabbats can anchor your readings.Life transitions and milestones - Moving, starting a new job, or even “it’s Friday” can all be reasons to pull a spread.Tarot doesn't need to follow a strict witchy calendar. You are allowed to choose the rhythms that feel aligned with your energy. 💭 Today's Tarot Pull:From The Desert Illuminations Tarot by Lindsay D. Frequently Asked Questions: Tarot, Witchcraft, & DivinationWelcome to Season 14 of Every Day Tarot! This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.Today’s question: How do I ask my therapist to use tarot?Tarot can be a powerful ally in the therapy room. In this episode, I share exactly how to bring it up with your therapist, what to say, how to find tarot-friendly providers, and what to do if your therapist isn’t a reader (but is open to your deck). What we explore in this episode:Simple language to introduce tarot to your therapist (without awkwardness)What to look for in therapist bios/directories to find tarot-friendly providersWays to use tarot in session, even if your therapist doesn’t read cardsHow to Ask Your Therapist to Use TarotFor many witchy, spiritual, or tarot-loving folks, therapy can feel like a place where we have to leave part of ourselves at the door. But what if the very tools that ground you—like tarot—could also be part of your healing journey in therapy? Tarot cards can serve as a mirror, sparking conversation about feelings, fears, or desires that may be difficult to put into words. Even if your therapist isn’t a tarot reader, they can still support you. Similar to art therapy, tarot provides the picture, you provide the meaning, while you and your therapist work together to unpack it💜 Finding tarot-friendly therapists, pro tip!Search bios for spiritual, holistic, creative arts, narrative, witchy, tarot-friendly. Today’s question: How do I use tarot as a therapist?Tarot isn’t just a tool for personal reflection, it can also be woven into therapy—helping clients find language for their emotions, connect with archetypes, and uncover insights that words alone can't always reach. In this episode, I share how I began incorporating tarot into my own therapy work, what I learned from the Therapist Who Tarot retreat, and how tarot activities can support clients in self-discovery and healing. What we explore in this episode:How tarot functions as a projective technique in therapyPractical activities and prompts therapists can try in sessionWhy tarot resonates with metaphor, narrative therapy, and art-based approachesUsing Tarot as a Pathway to Deeper HealingWhen most people think of tarot, they picture divination spreads or daily card pulls. But tarot is also a powerful tool for therapists! In 2024, I attended the Therapist Who Tarot Retreat, facilitated by Dreya Blume and Rebecca Bloom. It was a transformational experience. Half of our time was devoted to the clinical and ethical applications of tarot in session, and the other half was devoted to creative practice—collaging and crafting our own cards. This balance of head and heart reminded me why tarot belongs in therapeutic spaces. At its heart, tarot is imagery, archetypes, and story. That means it naturally lends itself to therapy, where metaphor and symbolism already play a huge role. Tarot can help clients project their own meaning, uncover patterns, and articulate what’s been unspoken. The cards don’t “tell the future,” but offer clients imagery that prompts insight, reflection, and conversation.Practical ApplicationsInvite clients to pull a single card at the beginning of the session and explore its imagery.Use spreads designed for reflection (not prediction), such as “strengths and challenges.”Try journaling questions from resources like The Tarot Activity Book by Dreya Blume.Craft cards together in session to explore identity, values, or coping tools.💭 Today's Tarot Pull:From Therapists Who Tarot Deck, I pulled Justice (Upright).Justice asks us to return to balance. This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.Today’s question: What does it mean when a card falls out of the deck?Tarot readers often call these “jumping cards” or “flyers.” They tumble out while shuffling, sometimes dramatically, and can feel like they’re demanding your attention. But what do they really mean? In this episode, we’ll explore different reader perspectives on jumping cards, how to work with them, and what to do when the whole deck seems to tumble onto the floor. Why Jumpers Show UpThere’s an old witchy saying: “What falls to the floor comes to the door.” In other words, when a card slips out of the deck, it might be knocking loudly with a message meant for you.Jumping cards often carry a sense of urgency, such as:A truth you’ve been avoiding.A theme that keeps surfacing in your life.A nudge from your guides, ancestors, or higher self.Ultimately, a card falling out only has meaning if you choose to give it meaning. If it happens often, you might set it aside and notice whether its themes echo through your reading. Practical Ways to Work With JumpersSo what should you do when a card falls out? You can try one of these approaches:Set it aside. Read it as a standalone message before moving into your spread.Check for patterns. If the same card keeps falling, consider it a stalker card and pay closer attention.Look and pick another. Take note of what it was, then shuffle it back in and continue.Scan your body. Notice how you feel when the card jumps. Does it spark a jolt of recognition, or does it feel like simple clumsiness? Your intuition already knows.Personally, if one or two cards fall while I’m focusing on an intention, I’ll set them aside. They often hold exactly the message I need. But if half the deck crashes onto the floor while I’m juggling my coffee and shuffling, I give myself permission to laugh, reset, and start again.💭 Today's Tarot Pull:From The Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington, I pulled the Queen of Swords (Upright).Cut through illusions and face reality with clear eyes. This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.Today’s question: What does it mean when I keep pulling the same card?Tarot has a funny way of following us around. Sometimes, a single card seems to “haunt” us, appearing over and over no matter how much we shuffle! In this episode, we’ll explore the meaning of these so-called “stalker cards,” why they show up, and how to work with them instead of getting frustrated or dismissing the message. What we explore in this episode:What a “stalker card” is and why it might keep showing up in your readingsHow to ask clarifying questions or use a different deck to expand the messageWhy repetition is usually a sign of an unintegrated lesson, not a broken deckWhy Do Stalker Cards Show Up?A repeated card is usually a message that hasn’t yet been integrated. You may have thought about it, but you haven’t embodied it. Or perhaps you’ve been avoiding the lesson because it feels uncomfortable, inconvenient, or too big to face.Other reasons stalker cards appear:Unanswered questions - You’re asking the same thing in different ways, and tarot is holding its ground.Timing - The energy of the card is present in your life for a season, not just a moment.Personal resonance - Certain archetypes just belong to your journey right now.Statistically speaking, pulling the same card multiple times in a shuffled 78-card deck is rare! If it keeps happening, you need to pay attention. How to Work With Repeating Tarot CardsStalker cards can feel like being “read to filth” by the universe. Sometimes they’re blunt. Sometimes they sting. Remember: your deck is not punishing you. This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.Today’s question: How do I connect with my ancestors? Our ancestors walk with us. They are in our DNA, our gestures, our voices, and even our dreams. But for many of us, the idea of connecting with ancestors brings up big questions: What if I didn’t know them? What if my family history is painful? What if I’ve lost touch with my cultural roots?Ancestor work is not about perfection or recreating the past exactly as it was. It is about relationship. In this episode, we'll talk about how to connect with your ancestors and consciously invite them into your spiritual practice.Who Are Our Ancestors? When we talk about ancestors, many of us think of grandparents or relatives we knew in childhood. But ancestor work goes far deeper than family trees. Ancestors can include:Immediate loved ones - parents, grandparents, or relatives who shaped your life.Ancient ancestors – humans who lived thousands of years ago, whose lives were rooted in land, migration, and survival.Cultural ancestors – people of your heritage or tradition who carried stories, songs, and rituals.Spiritual ancestors – those connected through practice, belief, or chosen lineage.Chosen ancestors – communities of care and resilience we inherit outside of bloodlines. The truth is: you are already connected. Their choices, stories, and legacies live in your body and spirit. Ancestor work simply brings that connection into consciousness. Here are some everyday practices to try:Create an altar – Let it be a place of remembrance and conversation.Cook their food – Prepare recipes they loved or meals tied to your heritage. Tend heirlooms and objects – Use your grandmother’s teapot, your grandfather’s books, or family tools in daily life. Offerings and rituals – Light a candle, pour a cup of tea, or leave flowers at their photo or grave.Tell stories – Go through family albums, watch old home videos, or simply speak their names aloud.Dreamwork – Invite ancestors into your dreams by placing a photo, token, or dream pillow under your pillow. Record what comes through.Nature connection – Spend time in places your ancestors lived, or honor plants and animals they would have known. Ancestor Work When Family Is Complicated 🖤Not everyone feels safe or ready to connect with family lines directly. For those of us with family trauma, estrangement, or cultural displacement, ancestor work can feel overwhelming. In this episode, I explore who these guides are, the different forms they may take, and how you can begin to build a relationship with them. Depending on your spiritual background, they may be called angels, ancestors, gods or goddesses, animal spirits, plant allies, or simply energy. What we explore in this episode:The importance of self-trust when working with divination practicesWhy tarot and intuition point to possibilities rather than fixed outcomesHow prophecy in Harry Potter highlights the tension between fate and free willA step-by-step “Trust Yourself” tarot spread you can try at homeDivination, Tarot & Trusting Yourself @ Enchanticon 2025When I stepped onto the stage at Enchanticon, I knew I wanted to talk about more than Trelawney, tea leaves, and tarot cards. I wanted to talk about trust. Trusting our intuition. Trusting the symbols that show up in our lives. Trusting ourselves. Because divination isn’t just about predicting the future, it’s about learning how to listen to ourselves in the present.Prophecy, Intuition, & Free WillThe central question of prophecy in Harry Potter is whether the future is set in stone. Dumbledore reminds Harry: “It is our choices, far more than our abilities, that show who we truly are.” Voldemort heard half the prophecy, tried to prevent it, and ended up ensuring its fulfillment. This is how I see tarot. A spread doesn’t tell me what must happen. A card pull isn’t a locked-in script; it’s a hint of possibility. Intuition works the same way. It doesn’t force our hand. It says, “Here’s what you already know—now, what will you do with it?” The magic happens in that gap between knowing and choosing, because while prophecy may frame the story, it's free will that writes the ending.Trust Yourself Tarot Spread (pulled from The Sasuraibito Tarot deck)This spread is designed to help you quiet the noise, listen inward, and reconnect with your own inner compass. Divination & The Harry Potter SeriesSeason 13 of Every Day Tarot is all about divination, and today’s episode is about the magic of numerology—or, as it’s called at Hogwarts, Arithmancy. Numbers aren’t just numbers in the wizarding world; they're magic. But numerology goes far beyond lucky or unlucky numbers! From Voldemort’s obsession with the number seven to Hermione’s absolute love for Arithmancy, it’s an ancient system that sees numbers as carriers of energy, meaning, and destiny. What we explore in this episode:The history of numerology and its roots in divinationWhy numbers are seen as energetic, symbolic, and deeply influentialHow arithmancy appears in the Harry Potter books (and why Hermione loves it)The cultural obsession with numbers and their magical resonanceNumerology: The Magic in NumbersNumerology is the study of numbers as symbols carrying energy, direction, and influence. Each digit from 1 through 9 carries its own vibration: beginnings, intuition, creativity, stability, curiosity, harmony, spirituality, ambition, completion. Larger numbers are reduced back to these roots, and repeating digits (11:11, 333, 444) amplify their meaning.Numbers show up everywhere: birthdays, addresses, names, and even in pop culture. In the tarot, numbers shape archetypes through the Major Arcana, beginning with 0 (the Fool) and cycling through the archetypal journey until 21.Arithmancy at HogwartsIn the wizarding world, numerology takes the name arithmancy, and it’s Hermione’s favorite subject. While she dismisses Divination as “woolly” and subjective, she praises the logical, chart-based approach of arithmancy. Even Voldemort is obsessed with numbers: he creates seven horcruxes, deliberately choosing the most magically potent number in the wizarding world. J.K. Rowling herself plays with sevens and twelves constantly in the series. And in Muggle culture, we see echoes of the same beliefs—seven as “lucky,” 13 as “unlucky,” 11:11 as a moment to make a wish.To explore the energy of this episode, I pulled cards from The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen InkwrightThe Patron - mentorship, financesThe Catalyst - radical change, taking controlThe Gambler- loss, risksCheck out my other seasons!Season 1 - Tarot basicsSeasons 2 & 3 - Major Arcana and 4 suitsSeason 4 - Tarot in Pop CultureSeason 5 - Tarot SpreadsSeason 6 - Suit of WandsSeason 7 - Suit of PentaclesSeason 8 - Suit of SwordsSeason 9 - Suit of CupsSeason 10 - Tarot and WitchcraftSeason 11 - Tarot and Plant AlliesSeason 12 - Tarot and Animal Allies💭 Today's Tarot Pull:From The Herbcrafter’s Tarot, I pulled the Nine of Air Pomegranate (Upright). This card speaks to grief, release, and the cyclical nature of endings. Like Persephone eating the pomegranate seeds, it reminds us that even in loss there is wisdom, and that endings prepare us for beginnings.Reflective prompts on this card:What cycles in your life are completing right now?Which number patterns or “angel numbers” keep showing up for you?Where can you honor endings as sacred, rather than resisting them?Ways to Connect & SupportTarot Card Creation Workshop: Get the recording, examples of the cards I’ve created, journaling questions, and PDF to walk you through it for just $33.
