I am writing to you after a stunning Solstice morning, preparing my ritual for Rauhnächt and spending time in visioning space with the Ancestors. I feel their proximity closer than ever before, the long night ahead full of memory + celebration.Yesterday, on the Anniversary of my paternal grandmother’s death, we had a traditional Irish Funeral to lay my maternal grandmother’s body to rest. Usually I associate this time of year with Capricorn’s grandfatherly presence, but somehow, I feel my grandmothers are making their mark on this threshold as an opening of sorts. I cannot deny their presence amidst the proximity of the Ancestral Realm, and the ways they have carved their name into the tree of Life + Death as One. My experience of Winter Solstice is changing. As mother night spreads her wingspan to its fullest extent, the embrace of darkness seems like a homecoming. I feel quite moved by this moment, as if the doors between the worlds have been cast wide open, and the presence of so many beloveds in spirit are able to come pouring in. What a gift. Working with the Ancestors truly changes the experience of Death in such deep, profound, and mysterious ways. May you feel that eternal presence as a soul friend.This week, the Spirit of Capricorn is certainly here to meet us at the entrance of the Solstice. Mars makes determined movements through Capricorn, as the Sun + Moon cross that threshold together with Venus soon to follow. It is certtainly a vibe shift, but perhaps a welcome one at that. I always find Capricorn’s steadfast spirit to be so refreshing, a careful guide for our footsteps as we enter Winter’s visioning cave.If you have been here for previous years of the Altar of Stars Capricorn Szn readings, you’ve likely heard me use my favorite phrase that my ancestors shared with me many cycles ago; ‘what does it take to build a world?’ — this is what Capricorn wants us to sit with. And yet, counter to what our hyper-materialist Capitalist society might say, the tangible action in response to this question is only half (if not less than) the true work of worldbuilding. As the bringer of Winter, Capricorn initiates us into Deep Time; legacies that extend across generations + lifetimes. To truly build a world, we must be so deeply in touch with this expansive vision, that we can hear the guidance of our Ancestors speaking through the fire. The work of Capricorn, in my opinion, is True Listening. It is an attunement to the cycles of creation that requires our receptivity; only from there can our actions be informed, resolved + determinant. To lean back into the support of the Elder Powers that truly know how to build a world, we must learn how to really listen.And so, I feel this particular end-of-year threshold is equal parts receptivity + intentional, decisive action. Hello sweet friends ~ how are you doing out there? How was that Scorpio New Moon for you? I am definitely still feeling the sensitivity, especially after being taking to such depths over the course of the past month. I feel hopeful as we prepare to meet this week and all that Sagittarius invites us into, by way of processing + integration.The movement from Fixed Water to Mutable Fire is one of the most alchemical thresholds of the entire Zodiac. Taking it both as an opportunity to listen deeper to the wisdom of the Inner Self, while also taking it as a cue to slow down. Nothing needs to ‘happen’, right now — stillness is a vital part of every growth cycle.Here’s the breakdown of the week;* Sunday, Mercury stations retrograde at 9* of Sagittarius. Whose story are you living? This is the myth of your life; depending on how the narrator (you) chooses to tell it, the story is directed from there. Working with the narratives of Mind can create a lot of agency for change.* Tuesday, Jupiter stations retrograde at 25* of Cancer. The current Ruler of Mercury’s placement, this is all interconnected. The little stories create the larger narrative arch; zoom out. Take a moment to gain perspective + examine the landscape. This isn’t about ‘figuring things out’ - it’s about taking the seat of the Witness as vital ritual awareness. Only from here can we make informed decisions, when the time comes. My friends! Blessed Samhain, Día de Muertos, or however you observe this weekend’s threshold. I have been thinking a LOT about ghosts lately, and what produces them — in the Land, in the Culture, and along our Lineages.I wanted to share a longer teaching on the subject, especially as it relates to Ancestral Lineage Healing work. We have no shortage of ghosty sh*t in the world due to our current cultural moment, and all of the unsettled energy the past 500+ years has created. It’s a worthy inquiry if you’re thinking about approaching Ancestor work in any form, knowing the reality that you’ll likely find some of that unsettled stuff on your lineages.To me, this is the point of any Ancestral tending + reconnection work; the reality that cultural repair becomes possible when we truly re-establish connection with the benevolent + venerated dead. We’ve got a lot of work to do, y’all, and the Ancestors can absolutely help us do it. They likely just have to reckon with some of that shared history first.I will admit that this particular teaching is a BIG bite at the high-level reality of Ancestral + Cultural Repair work. FYI - it is NOT meant to be done overnight. It’s not possible. And, not skillful to try to blast into those densities head first. This particular recording is simply meant to be food for thought, knowing that if you’re going to start anywhere, you gotta establish base level connection with your Ancestors first + foremost. We have another New Moon occuring at the crossroads, the day before the Sun enters a new sign territory. This happened in September with the Virgo New Moon / partial eclipse occuring the day before the Equinox!This time, Sun + Moon meet at 28* of Libra, the day before Scorpio season begins. However the tone has changed, the story unfurls a new layer…Persephone has spent the past month learning the terrain of the Underworld, landing after a process of descent. Now, somewhat familiar with the territory, she is presented with a choice. Hades offers her a pomegranate to satisfy her hunger, an extension of kindness in a moment of isolation. If Persephone accepts, knowingly becomes Queen of the Great Below.In doing so, she must embrace her dual nature. She must turn towards herself fully, holding her grief as equally vital to her joy. For she knows, they belong to each other.This, I feel, is the energy of the New Moon in Libra. More specifically, I wanted to share some insights on how to do so with ritual safety in mind, as well as potential pitfalls, complexities, and needs for discernment when connecting with Ancestors in general.This teaching is NOT a criticism by any means. The full moon in Aries this week brings deep relational truths. How we navigate the space between self + other. It is the work of lifetimes, generations of relational repair. The shadow of Libra + Aries runs DEEP in our collective psyche, burrowed by punitive justice systems and religious dogma of ‘good vs bad’.'Accessing our own humanity is the antidote.
