Jo Bradshaw is a Keynote Speaker, Leadership Development Coach, Expedition Leader and DofE Outdoor Instructor. Having competed her first challenge in 2004 when she cycled 500kms from Lake Titicaca to Machu Picchu, she has gone on to complete many more adventures including completing the 7 Summits and Mount Everest. Her most recent project is More then a Mountain - a documentary that follows 15 women of all ages and abilities as they face the emotional and physical challenge of climbing 5,550m mountain Yala Peak in Nepal. Led by Jo in April 2025, this expedition was a living tribute to Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mount Everest on 16th May 1975. My conversation with Jo is published to coincide with the first screening of More then a Mountain at Kendal Mountain Festival in November 2025. Jo shares her motivation for producing the film and what she learned from the process as well as the expedition itself. We discuss the narratives around failure, the power that is found in vulnerability and why Junko Tabei’s legacy deserves to be pulled from the shadows and given her rightful place in mountaineering history. She is passionate about improving accessibility and inclusion in the outdoors and her many achievements include organising the Women's Trad Festival, Peak Gravel Gang and the Running Out of Time relay between COP26 and COP27. Recently I have had a number of conversations with friends and clients about guilt - and specifically the guilt we can feel when we take time for ourselves to do things that we love or need. Guilt is a complex interaction between the standards we set for ourselves (or are set by others…) and our assessment of how our behaviour meets those standards. So telling ourselves that we “shouldn’t” feel guilty rarely does anything to temper it! I’ve recorded this video and pod episode to delve a bit deeper into guilt - exploring the causes, when it is helpful and less so and ultimately what we can do about it when it is counterproductive to what we need. I hope you find it helpful - please do let me know what you think! Get full access to The Everyday Adventure Podcast at everydayadventurepod.substack.com/subscribe

Send us a textIn June 2023, Stephanie Quintrell and Heather Sharp completed the Ride to Freedom along with 6 other women as part of a Forces Wives Challenge expedition, tackling the challenging terrain surrounding the World War Two Freedom Trail (Le Chemin de la Liberté), across the Pyrenees Mountains on horseback. The team followed remote mountain passes that were used as escape routes into Spain by around 33,000 allied service personnel and others fleeing to safety, avoiding checkpoints and surveillance.Achieving this challenge is remarkable in itself, but is made even more impressive by the fact that Steph, who was diagnosed with a neurological condition in 2019, is permanently dependent on a wheelchair. In this conversation, we discuss the inspiration for the challenge, the highs and lows as well as the nuances around accessibility and the assumptions made around what can and can’t be done. It highlights how for change to truly happen, those impacted need to have a voice and be heard. But this is also the story about connections and relationships - and a remarkable group of women who supported each other to achieve something extraordinary. Send us a textIn May 2023, Emma Wood embarked on a two week adventure cycling the length of the UK from John O'Groats to Land's End.As a busy mum of two girls, with a successful career in financial services, the logistics surrounding this journey were half the battle. But having got a taste of long distance cycling during a 4 day trip cycling unsupported from Dorset to Cornwall, she was ready for a bigger challenge . Accompanied by her dad in the support van, she set off cycling solo from the north of Scotland on the adventure of her life. Whilst others have completed this nonetheless challenging route, Emma's story is extraordinary in that it shows what is possible amongst all the other commitments in our daily lives and the importance of taking time for ourselves s. It would have been totally understandable for Emma to say she was too busy or that she was needed by her family. But by listening to and validating the voice that told her that she needed to do this for herself, Emma has achieved something amazing and inspired many others to dare to dream and do along the way. This is an honest and engaging conversation about the guilt and challenges we experience as parents when we decide to head on a solo adventure as well as the benefits we encounter when doing do - and the positive ripple effect that these adventures can have on those around us too.Find out more about Emma on Instagram at @wildlyemazing I hope you have enjoyed this episode of The Everyday Adventure Podcast!
