Our guest this time is a treat. A treat you can find in a fancy boutique and your favorite mom & pop shop (that probably doesn’t exist anymore). Something sweet with Minnesota nice on the inside and a quick-witted, comedic-genius-in-the-making coating. While yes, it’s heresy ‘round these parts to wear Timberwolves gear, Sam is someone we should make an exception for; so please welcome to Top Shelf, a stand-up comedian who you’ll be excited to see rise the ranks, Sam Ellefson!Watch his new special: ‘Bones of Steel’ on YouTube! https://youtu.be/H2aI_S3vIEM?si=TmmLuTt_yUuBav61Follow him on Instagram @SamEllefson & see where he’s performing stand-up next at his website: SamEllefson.comWe discussed how it’s never been cheaper to make a high-quality stand-up comedy special, Sam’s travels to Europe with his wife and how he learned all about the origins of Switzerland & the Swiss guard, subconscious bias at the crowd and individual levels, and why Sam is downright frustrated that his awesome ‘Settlers of Catan’ joke can’t get more traction from the algorithm on social media. If anyone has an “in” with the techno-oligarchs, tell them that their AI is a D-average open-mic comic. Stick around to the end to see us watch & give praise to one of the greatest late-night appearances ever: Gary Gulman’s ‘State Abbreviations’ bit.Grateful that Sam shared his time & some wings with us. I look forward to cheering him on as he continues to climb the ladder to the top!Join us for EATIN’ with Sam — Patreon.com/InTALLerable Only $2/month lifetime access & now some brand new merch will be sent to you!Just saying.. We are fortunate to welcome someone who wears all the hats; a stand-up comic, veteran festival producer, the host of ‘The Art of Bombing’ podcast, but most important for when we chose to record this episode: we were lucky to have a tried & true South Dakotan willing to grit his teeth through “the cold” to pod it up for you, our fine listeners. Please welcome to InTALLerable for his Top Shelf Studios debut: Dan Bublitz Jr.!See Dan perform before he makes his big move back up to South Dakota! His website is DanBublitzComedy.com— You should (must, really) follow him on socials @dbubcomedyLast but not least, if you liked him here, you’ll probably love him without Sean! If you like Dan as much as us, listen to his podcast 'The Art of Bombing' — Season 10 is inbound!!We discussed how a job at Hardee’s used to get you & your girl a single-family rental home, we hit the under on how long before Sean mentions Sisyphus, Dan gives free & valuable advice for newer comics thinking about applying or performing on festivals, and we hear the legendary tale of Dan’s corporate-gig bombing which inspired his podcast. Buried by circumstance doesn’t do it justice, so you will just have to listen. We are grateful that Dan drove down from Loveland to be on our silly show & eat some smoked chicken wings. It was so cold that we had to take the EATIN’ inside, so the audio might not be the best, but you can still pull up a chair & eat with us over at Patreon.com/InTALLerableFO & BW0:00 — Guest Intro1:45 — How many road comics in the US?3:00 — AI cannot replace us!4:00 — Lazy people will take the easy path5:15 — Producing Festivals for years6:00 — Divorce & Dan’s first stand-up set9:00 — Married Young10:00 — Rented a house on Hardee’s money11:00 — Fat Daddy’s (RIP)12:00 — Dan’s full circle moment13:30 — Moving to San Diego for Comedy14:30 — No path, no Rulebook17:00 — Being Funny & Having an Act is Different18:30 — Sean’s new ‘Fit Anywhere’ joke20:00 — Dan’s advice on applying to festivals21:30 — New methods with Comedy Specials23:30 — Willing to Lose Money24:30 — “Winter” Weather25:00 — South Dakota Winter Built Different26:00 — Weatherpeople are getting Lazy27:00 — Running Festivals28:30 — Comic: A small Business30:15 — Have-to wear all the “hats”31:00 — Cruise ship comedy35:00 — Moving to South Dakota36:30 — EATIN’37:30 — After-Hours Show38:00 — WIng Review!41:00 — Origins of Dan’s show: ‘The Art of Bombing’42:30 — Ready-to-Quit-Comedy Bomb Story47:00 — Ollie and Lena Jokes49:00 — “Here’s Dan!”51:30 — Keep at it Kid, you’ll get there.53:00 — Inspiration: Everyone Bombs55:00 — Stacking Eps, my gosh!56:30 — EPK (Yes, you are stupid.)58:00 — Time consuming demands of video1:00:00 — Not a zero-sum game1:03:00 — Goal setting & YOUR road1:04:00 — Iceland (homerun!)1:06:00 — Quality of life in the US?1:07:30 — Self-Awareness & Growth1:11:00 — ‘Heighting’1:13:00 — Plugs!1:14:30 — Shared Kindness & Sean’s Book1:17:15 — FO & BW
Ep. 217: New World Order: Do Good. (Ft. John Lamberger & Connor Moore)Our guests are matriculating masters students studying Internal Security at the Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver. One is a veteran of our armed forces (Oorah), the other a veteran of Sean’s Top-Shelf antics & sarcasm. Please welcome what we around these parts (a garage on the internet) consider to be subject matter experts: John Lamberger & Connor Moore!Follow their project MoorePosts.com & follow them on socials @mooreposts — Their new podcast with actual subject matter experts (ya know, nuclear physics, etc.) is called: ‘Sheepland’ Drops this week! Listen to it when it drops & give them a follow to see who they interview next. We discussed everything from why Fanta (yes, the drink) was an important matter of strategic intelligence & national security, to America’s soft-power capitalism, debate protesting & effective outcomes for good governance, and the departing shift from the established US foreign policy paradigm since WWII. It’s pens, fences, and John’s thematic lens, leading us to the conclusion that if they has to be a ‘New World Order’ it should be simple: Do Good. You can support our show powered on blood, sweat, and tears, over at: Patreon.com/InTALLerable — bonus episodes, EATIN’ with our guests, Black Box lost tapes.. Returning guests, but this time, together?! Welcome back two stand-up comics from Colorado Springs, hosts of the now defunct, Beanie Boys Podcast : Cameron MacKenzie & Thad B.! You should (must!) follow them & keep an eye out for their new revamped show: ‘Downbad Pod’A quality hang with these gents from start to finish. We jump from targeted ads on social media for E.D., piercings ‘to be hot,’ arguments about which sport is best, to the golden age of Wii Sports & Wii golf supremacy. Heck y’all, we even talked paraplegic cornholers & the infamous Colorado Springs “Mad-Pooper.”If you want to reduce the national debt, help the ‘Fat Soul,’ or want to hear about what it’s like to go through mascot tryouts, then strap on your listening gloves, sit back in a refined chair or on the nearest park bench, and enjoy the ride with two of our all-time favorites. EATIN’ on Patreon with Grant, Cameron, & Thad.Perhaps you have wondered, “how would I even go about supporting an independent, self-run show like InTALLerable? Maybe you’re like: “What’s that weird gap around an hour into the episode where they talk about going to eat smoked chicken wings?” — This is that. There are more & more everyday joining the ‘Heights’ at Patreon.com/InTALLerable to show us they want more smoked meats & more amazing guests. We couldn’t do it without them. Thank you all. Our guests are quarter-zipped up, looking fly as hell, and are ready for whatever InTALLerable has in store (hint, a lot). Both Denver open-mic comics whom Grant loves so much that he provided their quarter-zips & sat in with these fine gentlemen for the EATIN’. Let’s be real. Deandre & Merci are here for laughs, fun, and our usual ill-fated reflections of the world around us, yes. But reeeaaally.. They're here at Top Shelf Studios to see if our smoked wings pass the ‘Cultured’ test. From ice skating & other white activities, potential plans to picket (if necessary) to reclaim hosting an open-mic for black history month, a new color that’s name is superseded in stupidity only by the fact that you can’t actually see the color, to our meager attempts at educating young Deandre on American pop-culture references that he’s too young to know or understand. “19?!? Our guests are two childhood friends who grew up together in South Carolina. Jesse Green makes his Top Shelf debut, promising to keep his clothes on the entire time, and returning fan-favorite, Jacob Humphries, who is always eager to smash some smoked chicken wings & turn up the riff to InTALLerable levels. We learn about the origin of Jesse’s old-timey name, and hear all about working in a local grocery store. If you’re someone who disrespects check-out-boys, just remember that Jesse is the crucial conduit between hard-working families & the ever-present threat of their child starving. We refuse the right to refuse service to anyone, especially people who are rude to service workers. Jacob tells us about performing stand-up in a unique, perhaps terrifying, venue: a gun range combo whiskey tasting room. Luckily we had our guests check any weapons at the door. Safety (& jokes) first.Southern Grandma is always well-seasoned, RED40 creates stronger kids, chicken parm is meant to be prepared on a pellet smoker, deep fear of the “blue water people”; the only truth you’ll find here is that the Dixon Ticonderoga is the greatest pencil in human history. The rest is jokes, satire, or sarcasm. YUGE shoutout to Brody, our newest Patreon supporter! Apparently, Brody isn’t concerned with the follies of men, because he has God on his side, so he skipped the small ball stuff & joined the ‘Manifest Destiny’ Tier for $20. What a king, y’all. He’s also ripped as shit, full natty. Supporters like Brody make our show possible & keep us 100% ad-free. My guest is Colorado Springs based stand-up comic, Russell Keller! You can follow him on Instagram @RussellPKeller or find out where you can see him perform next on his website: https://www.russellkellercomedy.com Russell produces & hosts lots of amazing shows around the Springs, including: ‘Pikes Punks’ a monthly comedy show & the ‘Don’t Tell’ comedy shows in Colorado Springs. His journey to our humble garage here at Top Shelf was a long one, but I hope our signature ‘smoked-wing-hospitality’ made up for the time lost with his beautiful family. That’s time he won’t get back, so you better love this episode. We discussed what it’s like being a ‘Girl-Dad’, how Russell’s lack of self respect & deep fear of confrontation resulted in 6 hours of driving just to NOT perform at an open mic in Fort Collins, and our shared disdain for mega-church, strum-heavy, stomp-along music. Be honest with yourself, folks, we need a drastic revamp. A return to a more angelic approach: Choir in the back, no fanfare, just sweet hymnal song & organ music. PTLHear about how Russell got reported to the ministry HR for allegedly committing Heresy at their daily group Bible study, declining from teaching other Door Staff “manners” because it was his only differentiating skillset among the drug-addled degenerates (I assume). Are you a dude who needs to learn how a pad works? This is the ep for you. He kindly put up with our non ADA-compliant studio setup, so that we could ring in the new year over some of life’s finer things: Hennessy & Red Bull, smoked chicken wings, and laughter among friends. The last of which being the scarcest resource in our battle against AI Slop. Tairee tells me about this random super hero he found around Denver called ‘The Vigilante’, how he got him connected with Alek Seballes (filmmaker, guest of InTALLerable), so together they can make a movie! Follow Tairee on Instagram @TaireeTheComedianHelp fund their project here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-bring-the-vigilante-film-to-life We talked about perception and Tairee told me about his battle to reframe his confidence in his 30’s, misperception & women, his never-ending effort to make other people comfortable around him, and how he plans to put his foot to the gas in 2026. Feet be damned, I believe in Tairee & hope you all enjoy his company as much as I did for this hang. Just don’t get caught in the slow lane in front of him in 2026, because he will run your ass over on his way to the top!EATIN’ with Tairee on Patreon — Patreon.com/InTALLerable — Uncut Eps, EATIN’ smoked wings, and more! Santa came late on this release, but only ‘cause his reindeer had a mixup with a Kia Soul. He said our loyal fans would understand & appreciate the extra anticipation. Not expecting any extra gifts, but any coal we get in InTALLerable’s stocking would only fuel our rise. Our guests are old friends, Al, known for his disdain for all things, but especially Christmas, and Sam, professional producer, on-air talent, and recently voted both most likely to nail a clutch three in a local pickup game, or get nailed from behind by a 3 in a pickup on I-25. (For one, two, three!!) We get down to the truth about boxing day, Al’s battle with Traffic Enforcement, the movie that Al has been making for months with ‘The Vigilante’, being sucked back into streaming services by the Diddy doc, and a thorough argumentative examination of ‘The Grinch’, focusing mainly on his ostracized standing from Whovillian society. Merry Christmas indeed, folks.EATIN’ w/ these fine people and many more funny guests @ Patreon.com/InTALLerableOnly $2/month (First Run Tier) to support an independent show made by real humans eating (hopefully) real chicken.FO & BW0:00 — Merry Christmas!0:30 — Boxing Day1:00 — Guest Introductions1:15 — Sam’s been Rear-Ended3:00 — “While I’m here, Doc…”4:30 — Give Sean a Call5:30 — Still Shredding6:00 — Needing a Hamster Car7:00 — Al’s Disdain for Traffic Cops8:30 — “Real Deal” Chiro9:30 — Making a Movie10:00 — Vigilante13:00 — Future Ep. Our guest, Brent Gill, is a stand-up comedian & Colorado-native who began performing comedy while attending CU Boulder. After years of being a well-loved staple of Denver’s comedy scene, the founder of the ‘Boulder Comedy Show’ & ‘Good Session’ has moved to the modern Mecca (arguably) for stand-up comedy: Austin, Texas. Brent is a seasoned storyteller with unlimited stage presence & pizzazz; we’re fortunate he made time to come on our silly, undiscovered, show to laugh & eat with us!Follow Brent on Instagram @iambrentgill & check out his shows ‘Good Session’ @goodsession.comedy & his work with Hole Hecklers @holehecklers AND please (for your own sake), watch his special — ‘Live From Gilladelphia’ — on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/NazbuSmAFaE?si=U0TnbkuwxL7T0In3Brent brought his appetite for smoked meat to Top Shelf and he was eager to share some of the low-lights from the early days on the road, including his first ever headlining weekend in Questa, New Mexico. During this tale, we accidentally stumbled over an inspiring story of success for ‘The Best Impressionist in Albuquerque’ who was the scheduled feature act for Brent that weekend and has since gone on to “make it” on the silver screen (IMDb Page & all!). I’d bet it has to be, the greatest story of triumph for any performer at the Liquor Store/VFW/Pool Hall/Mexican Restaurant in unincorporated Questa, NM. Grant Lucas joins us for EATIN’ over on Patreon & an ‘After-Hours’ segment full of Brent & I listening to him with our mouths agape. Grant taught us about sailing, the difference between car & boat racing, required mindfulness on the high seas, and the terrifyingly massive scale of the oceans. It’s planetary, yo! Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas to all — especially all you who know how to properly pronounce: ‘Nuclear’. Our guests are both returning InTALLerable fan-favorites & Denver stand-up comics, eager to drink some ‘Nog & munch the best backyard smoked chicken wings Colorado offers. A real pile-of-towels-in-the-mudroom baby Jesus manger vibe. How angelic. Grayson teaches us about the special aerodynamics that were designed in commercial airplanes, we wonder where Jeff hides the supposed credit card’s worth of plastic in his balls, & the debate of the year — how to pronounce the word: ‘Nuclear’ — gets so heated that we needed a call-in from (now LA comic) Tonya Sabrina, PhD holder in Nuclear Physics, to settle it. Our returning guest is the founder of Pallet City Comedy, host & producer of stand-up shows all around Denver, and a high school teacher molding the minds of our future leaders. Between teaching freshman about genocide during his days and performing stand-up comedy at night, you might be wondering (like I was) how he manages to oscillate between the Holocaust and Ha-Ha’s. Garrett Nygren says it best himself: “It evens out to a normal person.”Follow Garrett @Garrett.Nygren & @palletcitycomedy on Instagram! If I were a freshman again, I would want to start each day with Garrett’s goofy face at the front of the class, his mustache dancing through the material, teaching us about what every eager-to-learn student really wants to be learning at 8 am, genocide. Garrett tells us about his sweet dance moves. Isolations, Head-Spins, the guy’s got it all. He even had a hat with one of those plastic squares on top, made specifically for spinning. PSA: when Garrett gets to spinning on his head, you best be getting your face out of the way. We talk about the ethical dilemma of AI usage in the classroom, Garrett shares about what it’s like to only be teaching a class about genocide, we wonder how to possibly install ‘Friday-Mode’ onto Sean’s brain, and we wonder what the new “third-place” could be in an America where people are drinking alcohol less and less. I just pray it isn’t the sober coffee dance party that Garrett told us about. Please, God, no. Follow Chef Pat @Cookin_Meat on Instagram & subscribe to @CookinMeat on YouTube! After dropping out of high school in Los Angeles, Pat traveled to Puerto Rico’s “Pork Highway” to learn how to make ‘lechón’, roasting whole pig in their traditional style. Our guests are Idaho-based stand-up comics & the hosts of ‘Pretty Good Podcast’ — Samson Large & Max Knudson — gracing us at Top Shelf Studios for a quality hang with cigarillo Sam on production.Follow Samson @SkiLarge & Max @MaxKnudson on Instagram! Go follow/subscribe/support their show: ‘Pretty Good Podcast’ wherever you listen/watch.We discussed the origins of Max’s ‘PrettyGood’ brand, how an idea for beer turned into a comedy podcast, and why beer is still heavily involved in their show’s success. From corporate pyramid schemes, to their long pilgrimage to Casa Bonita, these boys do more than a pretty good job at fitting right into our chaotically genuine vibe. It’s InTALLerable, after all. Hear Samson advocate for the glass being half-full, while Max & Sean pour out whatever liquid they find. Metatarsal mayhem, skate team Gaza, Moon-Drip; it’s a stacked-cast. Lebron-toe levels of stacked. Which is fitting, since Samson mentioned “his little toes are just as bad as Lebron’s.” Samson & Max are more than PrettyGood, hell, they are DamnGreat in our book. We are thankful they are out there spreading joy & grateful to share this hang together.EATIN’ uncut w/ Samson & Max — Patreon.com/InTALLerable — $2/month lifetime access to all our uncut bonus content & vaulted episodes!FO & BW0:00 - Guest Introductions1:30 - Origins of ‘Pretty Good’ Brand & Podcast4:00 - Skier Buddies6:00 - Beer Still Heavily Involved7:45 - Outdoorsy10:00 - Eating Shit to get Better 10:45 - Max Starting in High School14:00 - First Stand-up Jokes17:00 - Sandals are Fitting 20:00 - Being Fake, Not Good23:30 - Gifts for the Studio25:00 - Progressing as an Opener28:45 - Corporate Pyramid Scheme 34:00 - Casa Bonita 37:30 - Signature Station Identification38:00 - EATIN’38:30 - WING REVIEW!39:00 - Tony’s Chicken Wings40:30 - Samson’s Breaks his Foot45:45 - Pod Setup for the Bois47:30 - Cape-Wearing Kid50:00 - Marshall Law/Bad Jokes52:00 - Constitutional Convention 53:00 - Skate Team Gaza55:30 - Max’s Signature “Question” about Eating Yourself58:00 - All Beers, No Question1:00:00 - Adam Friedland Loves You1:01:00 - Traveling Around to Other Scenes1:02:15 - Unrestricted Rascals1:03:30 - AI Water Usage1:05:00 - Canada Kills More Canadians than Anything1:08:00 - Story Not Funny at All1:10:30 - Deadliest Warrior1:12:00 - “Health-Serviced” by Canada1:13:00 - Non-zero amount is too much1:14:00 - Agricultural Economics1:16:00 - Kinks to Try?1:18:15 - Single Men in the World1:21:30 - Foot Binding & Lebron Feet1:23:20 - After-After-Hours Show1:25:00 - Drag Name Geneator1:29:30 - Moon Drip1:31:30 - Riff-a-Drag-Name1:35:00 - Idaho Crazy People1:36:45 - Lenk make a Link?1:42:00 - DryBar’s new Industry?1:44:00 - Duck is the Constant1:46:00 - Job Talk1:48:00 - Conservative Dad Work-Ethic1:50:00 - Nothing Outside Work Lameness 1:51:00 - Cursing in Sales Meetings1:52:45 - Work is Work1:56:00 - What do you do it for?1:58:30 - Heighting2:00:00 - Come to Boise, ID
Our guest is a prolific touring comedian from Detroit, co-host of one of the most popular weekly shows in Colorado, ‘Thick Skin’, and someone with more stories than he can even remember — Mike Stanley! Check out his upcoming dates at MikeStanleyComedian.com — Be sure to go follow him on Instagram @Mike_Stanley & TikTok @SirMikeStanleyWe talked about Mike’s funny family, growing up playing in a band, and his eternal love for hardcore music. After drudging through a quick review of what is happening in the world, we stumble onto an idea for a secular social currency, try to muster up hope for the next generation, and wonder about the end game for these billionaires. Stick around for Mike’s legendary story of going to EVERY concert for a summer with all his buddies. In an era of paper money for paper tickets, Mike’s blank stack of tickets was better than gold. Adjusted for inflation, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a nominally larger Ticketmaster hater than younger Mike Stanley. King. Thank you to Mike for being someone I can always look up to, both in how he carries himself as a professional comedian, and for how he treats others. I appreciate his generosity to come on our show, share some laughs over smoked chicken wings, and for bringing his awesomely bright light into this ever-darkening world. All our flights at TSS are milestones, but we went extra BIG, even more InTALLerable, for our 200th episode. A live sketch artist plucked from a nearby courtroom, our small (but mighty) studio audience, and two of my favorite silly-goose guests. It’s a bacon-wrapped fever dream with two of the funniest dudes to grace our modest studios: Nate Malouf (@suffering.malouf) & Jacob Humphries (@chrashcompactor). Follow them so you can love them as much as we do. Join us for EATIN’ w/ guests & our newly recovered BBLT (Black Box Lost Tapes) available to our supporters at Patreon.com/InTALLerable — $2/month lifetime access ‘First Run’ Tier! Get the entire UNCUT hang at Top Shelf with our guests. ‘All My Pies’ — The play, the movie, the experience. This summer. October 34th. Three days after Halloween. A world of gears, steam, & money. Hear all about Nate’s breakout role as ‘Ted’ in this marathon production endeavor. We’d say more but trust me, you’ll want to hear this for yourself. Jacob tells us about his new gig being a blood-boy, we learn the horror of Tumnus’ Tiniest, and Nate forces Sean to learn new editing skills. We’re all gonna be turned into Goo soon enough, may as well laugh while we still have the chance, right?Jokes aside, thank you for believing in us. 200 episodes of InTALLerable sounds pretty wild to say, but trust me, this is just the start.
