In Today's EpisodeWe always talk about advocating for one's own animal, but what happens when we see someone else's animal getting hurt... by that person? Do we speak up? Do we stay silent? Heather tells you what she did in a sassy episode of Story Time with PupTalk. Just kidding! But seriously, Heather got yelled at, and she's telling you the details! Just FYI - this episode may be a little more relevant to dog and horse people since they tend to be in the public eye more (parks and shows,) but advocacy is for everyone!Don't forget to sign up for the Easy Advocacy Early Release List!If you enjoyed this free podcast and would like to support us, this link will buy us some chai. In Today's EpisodeHeather explains why someone called her an idiot for her pet care choices and why their opinion doesn't matter. This episode is all about empowering you to ask questions or walk away if you feel pressured, belittled, or guilty when making choices about pet care. Fair warning - this episode will discuss some controversial topics in pet health. The statements made in this episode do NOT constitute medical advice. This episode is just meant to help you understand a bigger picture and formulate questions to ask your vet. To hear from vets in support of alternative options to pet care, do an internet search for Drs. Judy Morgan, Peter Dobias, and Karen Becker. To learn about hormone replacement therapy for dogs that have gone through traditional spays and neuters or to read a non-academic article about alternative surgeries, check out this page. To peruse an article from the American Veterinary Medical Association about the risks associated with traditional spays and neuters and why you may want to wait, avoid them, or consider an alternative route, read this study. Note: While hormone sparing surgeries allow your pet to keep their hormones, they do still require anesthesia. (We did not say this in the audio.) If this is a concern for you, we suggest asking for vet for a specific time (even on the phone) to discuss it where you can ask all of your questions and put your concerns on the table. If you enjoyed this free podcast and would like to support us, this link will buy us some chai. In Today's EpisodeHeather jumps right back into the podcast with Season Two and a much needed discussion on progress. It's easy for pet parents to get discouraged when they think progress is small, slow, or insignificant. Here's the thing - any progress is still progress. It's easy to view the glass as half empty, but remember - half empty looks exactly the same as half full. Another way to think about it is from the perspective of others. Even if you don't feel the progress, someone else could be noticing and finding it very valuable. Your story might be teaching and inspiring others. If you liked this free podcast and would like to support us, this link will buy us some chai.
