The spark for this week’s theme was my desire to start the show with Johnny Cash “Big River”. I remembered that the Grateful Dead had covered that song and a few Merle Haggard songs came to mind. Initially I thought it would just be one segment in a show, but then I got down the rabbit hole of the Grateful Dead and found soo many more songs that I could play.HERE’S WHAT WE PLAYEDBig River Johnny Cash Sing Me Back Home Merle Haggard & The Strangers El Paso Marty RobbinsSeasons Of My Heart George Jones You Win Again Hank Williams Mama Tried Merle Haggard Big Iron Marty Robbins Big Boss Man Bobbie Gentry Deep Elem Blues Shelton Brothers Saw Mill Buck Owens Dark Hollow Tom T. When I was in the studio on Saturday morning I was in a panic as no sound was coming out of one of the stations turntables. I had another stack of Uncle Boyd’s records and was unsure if I was going to be able to play them or if it would be an mish mash of Uncle Boyd’s records and what was available in the media library on the station’s computer.Engineer Paul came to the rescue and got everything up and running. The first two songs (David Alan Coe and Willie Nelson) are us literally filling time while Paul was reconnecting lose cables and making sure our sounds were going out on the airwaves. Here’s What We Played David Allan Coe "You Never Even Call Me by My Name"Willie Nelson "City of New Orleans"UNCLE BOYD’S RECORDSRoger Miller "I Get Up Early In the Morning"Ray Price "Letters Have No Arms"Ray Price "Crazy Arms"Waylon Jennings "Honky Tonk Heroes (Like Me)"Merle Haggard & The Strangers "Honky Tonk Night Time Man"Dolly Parton "Jolene (Remastered)"Bobby Bare "Detroit City"Nancy Sinatra "Jackson"Emmylou Harris "Feelin' Single - Seein' Double"Marty Robbins "You Only Want Me When You Are Lonely"Larry Gatlin "Statues Without Hearts"Sonny James "The Cat Came Back (Remastered)"Hank Locklin "Foreign Car"Waylon & Jessi "Suspicious Minds"Stop by Classic Country Corner Saturday Morning at 8 only on 98.7 WVMO or online at WVMO.FM.
