ONE OF THE MOST notorious characters in the Bible, and all of history, is a man about which we know almost nothing. Nimrod is blamed for the Tower of Babel and the occult wickedness of Babylon. However, a close reading of the Bible and the history of the ancient Near East doesn’t specifically connect him with either. Some identify Nimrod as the Sumerian king Enmerkar, some as Sargon the Great of Akkad, others as the mythical hero of Uruk, Gilgamesh. How much do we really know about Nimrod? Is there any connection to Semiramis, Tammuz, and Christmas? Here’s the link to Derek’s paper “The Double-Headed Eagle: Scottish Rite Freemasonry’s Veneration of Nimrod.” This is the BBC News article that got everyone so excited 20 years ago: “Gilgamesh Tomb Believed Found.” Except that’s not what Dr. Jörg Fassbinder actually said. Fassbinder’s team did a magenetometric survey of the site of ancient Uruk, the city ruled by Gilgamesh probably 5,000 years ago (give or take). They mapped magnetic anomalies in the soil to find the city walls and outlines of buildings in the city. During the survey, they found the outline of a structure in what was formerly the course of the Euphrates River that was similar to the description of the tomb described in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Fassbinder and his team excavated nothing. And yet that BBC story has been twisted and retold so often that it’s now taken as an article of faith that videos with titles like “Gilgamesh Nephilim King FOUND INTACT IN TOMB” are still being produced—and getting about 100 times more views than our program because we stick to actual evidence. WHO BETTER to investigate sensational reports of levitating inhuman visitors in the remote Amazon rainforest than Timothy Alberino? Seriously. Not only is Tim, author of the bestselling book Birthright, a respected ufologist, he lived for ten years in exactly the part of the Amazon where these reports emerged in August and speaks the unique dialect of Spanish used by villagers in that region. What is going on? According to eyewitnesses, seven-foot tall, yellow-eyed creatures of possibly insectoid appearance who can float through the air have been terrorizing villagers along the Amazon and its tributaries. ONE OF the most important finds in the history of biblical archaeology is threatened. The Israeli government recently stopped a construction project that would have built a Palestinian village on top of the ruins of Joshua’s altar. At least, the project is stopped for now—there is no guarantee that the work has been halted for good. Aaron Lipkin (www.altarofjoshua.com) CEO of Lipkin Tours (www.lipkintours.com), discovered the construction during a visit to the site with his father, Avi. He tells us how he alerted Israeli government authorities to the construction, why the Palestinian Authority was able to launch this project to erase a critical piece of Jewish (and Christian) history, and what we can do to help. IT’S TRUE—if you want to do archaeology in Israel, you go into the field with a shovel in one hand and a Bible in the other. Dr. Mike Freikman (https://huji.academia.edu/MikeFreikman) of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem joins us this week to discuss his current excavation at Tell Beit Mirsim. This site, located about 12-1/2 miles southwest of Hebron, was excavated more than 90 years ago by one of the giants of biblical archaeology, William F. Albright. Dr. Freikman, who’s done the most recent excavations on the Copper Age megalithic site on the Golan Heights called Gilgal Refaim (“Wheel of the Giants”)and the nearby serpent-shaped ridge we’ve dubbed the Serpent Mound of Bashan, explains why he’s returning to a site that hasn’t been positively identified with a place named in the Bible—especially when that means following in the footsteps of one of the pioneers of archaeology in Israel. A GROWING BODY of evidence links the giants of the pre-Flood world with ancient Canaan and the mysterious island of Sardinia off the west coast of Italy. Author, filmmaker, and explorer Timothy Alberino (www.timothyalberino.com), who is our special guest on our 2024 tour of Israel, joins us to discuss the hundreds of giants’ tombs on Sardinia. They are used to this day in a rite of passage tradition where young teens will spend the night inside a tomb to absorb the energy of the giants believed to be buried underneath. We also discuss the archaeological evidence connecting the Nuragic civilization of Sardinia and Canaan of the Late Bronze Age, specifically the site in Israel near Megiddo called El Ahwat, which features architecture not found in ancient Canaan—but nearly identical to Nuragic construction on Sardinia.
