Today, we meet Ben Taylor, the founder behind the marketing and business growth of the Beachman. It’s a great Canadian entrepreneur story. Ben is the Co-Founder of Beachman e-bikes. In 2019, Beachman’s two founders Ben Taylor and Steve Payne had a chance encounter at a coffee shop. Ben is the creator of the Beachman name with the dream to build a wildly new electric cafe racer, and Steve, the cafe racer builder who could bring that dream to life. Ben comes from an entrepreneurial family, with parents that were co-founders of the now famous SteamWhistle Brewery. In the fall of 2020 Steve completed work on the first prototype, a modified 1979 Kawasaki KZ200, which they refer to as "Zero". With a battery system hand-built by Steve, a modern electric drivetrain, and authentic café racer styling, the pair knew they had something special, so let’s find out more.

Guest: Ryan Brinkurst, Founder & CEO - Beautifi
In a world where the wellness economy is booming—now worth over $200 billion in Canada and growing at 7% annually—clinic owners and practitioners are discovering one of the most powerful growth levers available today: offering financing. In today’s episode, we reveal how clinics can increase conversions, expand client reach, elevate customer experience, and build long-term stability simply by integrating responsible, accessible financing into their service model.
For the average Canadian, the message is just as clear: your health doesn’t need to wait. Whether it’s a medical, elective, or longevity-focused procedure, financing now provides a path to care that aligns with your goals, your timing, and your financial reality.
And for policymakers—and for every Canadian who has ever felt the frustration of waitlists, delays, or bottlenecks in the public healthcare system—this episode is essential listening. Canada’s entrepreneurs are leading the charge in creating accessible, innovative health solutions. If policymakers embrace these models, collaborate with innovators, and reduce unnecessary red tape, we can dramatically reduce pressure on the public system and expand access to care nationwide.
We invite you to share this episode with the people you know and love who should never have to compromise their health because of a lack of financing — and share it with clinic owners, policymakers, and benefits providers who can help accelerate access to health, wellness, and longevity across Canada.

Alicia Hardman grew up on a fruit farm just down the ridge from Shale Ridge Winery and always dreamed of tying her roots to a place of her own, where craft and hospitality meet. Years later, she left a full-time job and went all-in on that vision. It wasn’t a retirement project. It was an underdog leap, capital-heavy, complex, and humbling.
Alicia says starting from the bottom meant ups and downs, tough lessons, and a lot of perseverance. But when heart and vision stay aligned, you find your way. Every bottle, every table we set, and every smile at the door is a thank-you to the people who believed with us, and to you for being part of it.
Alicia didn’t arrive with all the answers. She learned fast, sought out seasoned growers and makers, invested in the right equipment, and kept listening, to the land and to the guests. The result is a Shale Ridge Winery, Cidery and Spa. A place that feels personal: with swings, sunshine, seasonal plates, and glasses that tell the story of where they came from.

Anslem’s insights for engineering entrepreneurs are terrific. What it takes to step out of multi-national engineering companies to start up your own venture... so interesting.
Anselm Viswasam graduated from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) with a degree in Electrical Engineering and is a professional engineer licensed in the province of Ontario. He also holds an MBA in Technology Management and New Ventures Development, from Queens University, in Canada.
Anselm co-founded Hyperion in July 2015 – with the intention of developing the first implementation of a distributed sensing solution for the electric grid. Essentially, Hyperion brings assets to life by taking each of the elements that comprise a high voltage asset and adding intelligence to it. In essence, a smart grid is smart because it is made up of smart assets.
Prior to this, Anselm successfully led ABB’s Substation Automation Products Division for North America and in this role, he was responsible for sales of Transmission and Sub-transmission products to Utilities in Canada, the US, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Anselm spent over 14 years at General Electric (Multilin – substation protection and control products) holding positions in engineering, operations, marketing and in new product development. He was an integral part of the team that developed the world’s first microprocessor protection relays – which are now ubiquitous across the power grid globally. He also worked in GE’s Wire & Cable group and developed cables for niche applications such as mineshaft power cable, cable buses and high performance fluid filled cable systems.
Anselm prides himself on being a true "international" Canadian. Born in Sierra Leone, West Africa to parents of ethnic Sri Lankan origin, his first ten years were spent growing up in Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Tanzania. After a short stint in boarding school in the United Kingdom, his father retired from the United Nations and moved back to Sri Lanka. The ensuing civil war in Sri Lanka forced Anselm and his parents to immigrate to Canada in 1989 – 35 years and counting as a Canadian!

Nancy Goemans is the founder and co-owner of Pie Junkie, a Calgary artisan pie shop she established in 2015. Prior to launching the business, she spent more than 25 years running a boutique marketing and design agency focused on the hospitality and food industries—building brands, developing menus, styling cookbooks, and shaping food-centric experiences.
The inspiration for Pie Junkie was deeply personal. Nancy’s daughter, Taya, who lives with Williams syndrome, loved baking pies with her grandmother. After Nancy’s mother passed away, Taya asked, "Who will make pie with me now?" Nancy replied, "I will," to which Taya responded that she wanted to make pie for a living. That exchange sparked Nancy’s mission to create a space where exceptional pies would be crafted by hand and where all people—particularly those facing employment barriers—would be welcomed.
Toward the end of Pie Junkie’s inaugural year, Nancy partnered with her longtime friend Jo-Anne Caza, who brought financial and operational expertise to complement Nancy’s creative vision. Together, they have grown Pie Junkie from a single storefront into five Calgary locations, while preserving the brand’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and community.
Under Nancy and Joanne’s leadership, Pie Junkie has become celebrated for its all-butter crusts, scratch-made fillings, seasonal menus, ethical sourcing, sustainable practices, and dedication to social impact.

Sweet Bella is one of Calgary’s top chocolatiers, known for its bold, adventurous approach to flavour. Pastry Chef Kevin Conniff founded Sweet Bella as a labour of love, turning a personal passion into a thriving business with products now available in over 20 locations across Western Canada, as well as in Connecticut, Texas, and Colorado.
The name Sweet Bella means "the sweet beautiful"—a concept that comes to life in the brand’s signature eccentric flavours and intricately engraved chocolate bars. While early creations were inspired by tea and spice blends, the company has since evolved to focus on a broader and ever-changing palette of creative ingredients.
Kevin is a classically trained pastry chef with over 25 years of experience. He currently teaches as a Pastry Chef Instructor at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). In 2023, he was featured on the Food Network’s "Holiday Baking Championship," Season 10, where he was the only Canadian contestant and finished as runner-up, showcasing the exceptional talent Calgary has to offer.
Originally from New York, Kevin’s culinary journey began in 1992 with a job washing dishes at a local bakery. He quickly became captivated by the craft, working his way up and eventually attending pastry school—where, ironically, tempering chocolate was once his greatest challenge. Today, chocolate is his passion and his art form.
Kevin and his wife Melissa share a love of coffee, red wine, sweet treats, and great conversation. Their two sons are often found in the chocolate shop, learning about life, business, and the joy of creative work, usually to the soundtrack of ’90s hip-hop and alt-rock.

Amanda Schmidt is the heart behind Purely Inspired Living. The 28-year-old's own path to wellness began with a lot of frustration and self-doubt. She spent years investing time, energy, money, and resources into her health but still felt stuck — constantly fatigued and holding so much grief of not feeling well. That’s when she discovered ONDAMED®️, and everything shifted.
As Calgary’s only certified ONDAMED®️ practitioner, her mission is to help others embrace a holistic, healthier lifestyle through personalized, non-invasive care. With Purely Inspired Living, she's building not just a wellness practice but a community that supports self-empowerment, confidence, and discovery — rooted in the belief that we all carry the innate ability to heal.
