A world champion bull rider explains why protecting hunting, fishing, and wildlife management matters for Colorado’s future. Growing up in rural Colorado, Kody Lostroh learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and a deep connection to the land. Before becoming a PBR World Champion in 2009, he spent his childhood ranching, hunting waterfowl with his father, and developing a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Today, those experiences shape his perspective on conservation, wildlife management, and the future of hunting and fishing in Colorado. Lostroh joins Hunt Fish Freedom with Kenia Link and Travis Thompson to discuss Colorado’s Amendment 83 and why constitutional protections for hunting and fishing matter. He breaks down the essential role hunters and anglers play in funding wildlife conservation, maintaining healthy habitat, and supporting the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. For those who see hunting as simply harvesting game, this conversation reveals the broader impact of conservation-minded sportsmen on entire ecosystems. Lostroh also shares firsthand lessons from restoring thousands of acres of degraded farmland on his ranch. Through planting native grasses and shrubs, improving water sources, and managing the land intentionally, he has helped rebuild habitat that supports deer, antelope, turkeys, and other wildlife. His experience offers a practical look at habitat restoration and responsible land stewardship. From food security and rural traditions to the next generation of hunters and anglers, this conversation explores why conservation requires experience, science, and long-term commitment. Lostroh explains what is at stake for Colorado’s outdoor heritage and why protecting hunting and fishing opportunities benefits far more than sportsmen alone. The future of hunting depends on what today's hunters do to protect tomorrow's opportunities. Kurt Belding built a life around hunting, but protecting that way of life has become just as important as chasing elk across the mountains. The founder of Western Obsessions TV and Hunt Adventures joins Hunt Fish Freedom to discuss the risks facing hunters, the importance of conservation, and why staying silent is no longer an option. Belding shares how he walked away from a career in business to pursue a life of filming hunts and helping others experience the West. He also explains why his approach to hunting content focuses on the misses, mistakes, and difficult days that rarely make it into traditional hunting shows. His recent DIY Alaska moose hunt is a reminder that success in the field isn't always measured by punching a tag. The conversation gets personal with the story of his daughter's New Mexico elk hunt, where a difficult shot became an opportunity to teach perseverance, accountability, and the value of mentorship. For Belding, those lessons connect directly to the future of hunting and the experiences he hopes to share with his grandchildren. The discussion turns to Colorado's hunting policy battles, wolf reintroduction, Amendment 83, and why wildlife management should be guided by science rather than emotion. Belding challenges hunters to get involved, speak up for public lands and wildlife conservation, and recognize that threats to hunting in one state can eventually affect opportunities nationwide. Whether you're an experienced elk hunter or introducing the next generation to the outdoors, this conversation offers a compelling reminder of what's worth protecting. Colorado’s hunting future depends on more than buying a tag and heading into the field. Josiah Nierman and Adam Nelson, co-owners of Salida Gun Shop in Salida, Colorado, believe protecting the hunting and fishing heritage means getting involved long before opening day. What began as a local firearms retailer has grown into a community hub for hunters, shooters, and outdoor enthusiasts, built around practical experience, quality gear, and a commitment to Colorado’s outdoor traditions. Nierman and Nelson explain why their business supports the constitutional right to hunt and fish, and why they believe hunters and anglers can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines. The conversation explores the growing debate over wildlife management, the role of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the importance of science-based conservation decisions. They discuss concerns surrounding state wildlife commission meetings, proposed hunting restrictions, and the lessons hunters should take from other states, including Oregon. They also explain why constitutional protections matter even when hunting and fishing are already legal, and how those protections can help preserve opportunities for future generations. Beyond the politics, this is a conversation about the responsibilities that come with being an outdoorsman. From supporting responsible wildlife management to making your voice heard at public meetings and encouraging fellow sportsmen to get involved, Nierman and Nelson offer a clear message: conservation requires participation, not just a license purchase. Whether you hunt Colorado’s mountains, fish its rivers, or care about the future of America’s outdoor heritage, this discussion offers a compelling look at what it takes to protect the traditions we hope to pass down. Hunting is more than the harvest. It’s the experiences, traditions, and opportunities we fight to preserve. What does it take to plan a dream hunt, build a lifetime of outdoor experiences, and protect the future of hunting? Austin Atkinson of Hunting Fool joins Kenya Link to share how he turned a lifelong passion for the outdoors into a career helping hunters pursue their biggest goals. From growing up in Arizona navigating Western hunting draw systems to guiding Dall sheep, brown bear, grizzly bear, and mountain goat hunters in Alaska, Austin has spent decades immersed in the hunting industry. Today, he wears multiple hats at Hunting Fool, helping hunters navigate preference points, draw odds, tag applications, outfitter options, and the logistics that make big-game hunts possible. Austin breaks down how to build a strategic hunting plan without wasting years or money chasing the wrong tags. He also shares why introducing kids to hunting, wild game, and time outdoors matters more than trophy size, and what it means to measure success through shared experiences. The conversation takes a broader turn toward hunting access and conservation, exploring threats to hunting opportunities, the importance of constitutional protections for hunting and fishing, and why hunters, anglers, bowhunters, and rifle hunters must work together to protect their traditions. Whether you're planning your first Western elk hunt or pursuing a once-in-a-lifetime sheep tag, this conversation offers practical insight into making the most of every opportunity. A new Colorado study puts hunting, fishing, conservation, and economic impact under the microscope. The conversation between Kenya Link and Travis Thompson digs into Colorado’s ongoing debate over the constitutional right to hunt and fish, with a focus on conservation, outdoor recreation, and the economic role of hunters and anglers. They discuss a recent Common Sense Institute event examining the economic contributions of hunting and fishing, including the businesses, jobs, travel, and local spending connected to outdoor recreation. The discussion then turns to Colorado Initiative 302, which would establish a constitutional right to hunt, fish, and take fish and wildlife while identifying hunting and fishing as preferred methods for responsibly managing wildlife populations. The measure is headed to Colorado voters in November 2026 and requires 55% approval because it would amend the state constitution. Thompson and Link also walk through several arguments circulating around the proposal, including questions about “traditional methods,” the role of out-of-state organizations, and whether existing statutory protections already provide sufficient safeguards. They explain how supporters interpret those issues and point listeners toward the broader North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, wildlife management, and the relationship between hunting, fishing, habitat, and conservation funding. For hunters, anglers, conservationists, and anyone interested in Colorado’s outdoors, the conversation provides context for understanding the policy debate and the arguments surrounding it.
