I'm sitting down with Mark Zimmer known as "The Barefoot Paddler." He just completed his mapping of the Boundary Waters, the portage trails, routs, hiking trails and logging all camp sites, all barefoot. We talk about that, how he came to live his unique lifestyle, we talk barefooting, and general outdoor banter. I'd say the conversation gets better as we get into it, and this was a really special interview. At the end I'll do a bit of paddling and Outdoor News so stick around for that.
I caught up with him in the Northern Minnesota woods and we had a nice chat around the fire. I let the conversation run its natural course and I hope you watch to the end.
Thanks for tuning in and please subscribe for more outdoor conversations, adventures and other outdoor nonsense.

Today we talk with Travis Cowles Co-owner of Airtight Inflatables in Ohiopyle PA. about their famous Shredder boats. A framless cata-raft designed to be paddled not rowed. Although you could row one.
These paddle craft have become renound in the world of whitewater. And I'm stoked to get learn more about these really cool boats. If you have never heard of them this is the show for you. If you are looking for a raft that you can travel with and need minimal extra gear then this is also for you. Or if you're a nut that thinks R1 paddling is just on another level (One (1) paddler in a Raft) then follow along. Stay tuned to the end for Outdoor News. There is some paddling-porn interspersed throughout. The footage links are below. As always if you are an outdoor adventure loving, kayaking, camping weirdo freak then please subscribe or share with like minded people but most importantly please visit and support the outdoor conservation organizations below.

The film Common Waters, by Rig to Flip and the Colorado Stream Access Coalition is coming Nov. 19th at the Oriental Theater in Denver. Also We need more people to sign the Stream Access Petition. In Colorado our right to paddle the publics waters is not a right at all. We are trying to change that for the good of both land owners and recreationists. Please take action. I'm sorry for the departure of my usual content but I want this channel to do more than entertain. Please come see the documentary Common Waters. Sign the Stream access petition at coloradostreamaccess.org and call the Colorado elected officials and tell them you want the right to float and if needed get out and be on the banks to be written into law. Thanks and as always see below.

There is a petition going around right now that would get legislation going to codify the river and stream access for kayakers, rafters and fishermen in Colorado. The Access and Conservation Director for Colorado Whitewater is joining us to explain and update the situation as well stoke the fire for this issue. Background: Currently access for the public on bodies of water that border or are wholly within private land is limited to floating through only and under no circumstance is touching the bank or stream bed allowed even if safety dictates otherwise. It is also still legal to put up barriers to small craft such as fences and low head dams or just about any other hazard. Current paddling and rafting access through private sections of land on Colorados rivers is gained by the adherence of landowners to an opinion from a former CO Attorney General from the 70's!! Listen or watch and get the whole story. I was lucky enough to get this interview in person on location.

Certified AI Free Outdoor Dipshittery. Paddling news headlines, and then talk with one of the owners of Pact Outdoors about their new Pooping in the wild kit, and whats wrong with how you Poo in the Gnar. Then we talk with an average guy named Joe about paddling round with gators down in Florida. Turns out its more dangerous than I had thought but not as bad as you might think. And then follow up with a bit more detail from the headlines. For the most amateur un-AI crafted outdoor content and the visuals from this episode subscribe or visit my Youtube channel Ivan Outdoors. Now I can and do Fly fish but like most people threw hardware on a spinner to begin with. And I love bate or spin fishing still, however, I do find myself drawn to get better at fly fishing. Why is the fly rod the weapon of choice for so many? How to get into it for cheap, how to set up and cast with a fly rod? If you want to learn to fly fish this is a good starting point. If you are already a fly fisherman you may find this conversation fun. At the end my guest Chris gives us a fly casting demo that I think is really helpful. Spliced in are some images and videos that really show how simple the technique is. Thanks for watching or listening, more to come. If you dig this stuff smash the buttons please and thank you!

THE GOOD River access upheld in NC. Dam Modification on the Cache La Poudre River. Corner Crossing is now Legal, what does that even mean? THE BAD Corner crossing leaves questions remaining, still open to be appealed. It may take some time for landowners to get used to this new norm. Land sales are on the table again across all federal land again. THE UGLY Senate bill calls for sale of 1/2 to 3/4 of all federal lands with in the next 5 years. Over 3 million acres could vanish from Public Ownership. This is mandatory action if you are an outdoorsman As always Please support Conservation Organizations. My current picks are below. Trilordy AKA - Lucas, is a Standup Paddle Board and Mt. Bike Racer and a passionate Paddler especially of Whitewater Canoes and SUPs and YouTuber. Living in South Carolina he is a NEW father and husband trying to inspire other weekend warriors to get off the couch and enjoy our rivers, protect them and advocate for them.
In this Episode I sit down with him and talk about paddling, and getting out as an average jamoke. This is just two dudes shooting the shit about paddling. I'll have him back on the pod to discuss his extensive boat collection and the craft of making your own paddle.

Sit down with Legendary Canoeist Cliff Jacobson as I pick his brain; rivers he recommends , being adventurous and juggling family, canoe trip dynamics, bear safety myths. We talk bushcraft on the merits of axes and saws, and we talk about or favorite boat, the Pakboat, a specialized canoe for the helplessly hemmed in adventurer, and much more. Please visit his web site, its a wealth of free information and his books are on point! It's such a honor to talk to the old timers and it's fun seeing their passion and Cliff Jacobson is full of passion for paddling. Please think about subscribing to my channel and getting the podcast from you local podcast bodega. And please leave a comment below any and all are welcome.

River Access in Colorado is Asinine. I sit down with two of American Whitewaters access protection specialists to talk about the current state of river access, what we can do, and what comes next. American Whitewater collaborated on a new documentary Common Waters and we discuss the premiss of the film. Access is important to all urban locked outdoor jamokes and we have to keep pushing for better access that is more inline with other states. If you are not from Colorado you should pay attention because its not the only state where access to our national lands and waters is being restricted.

We discuss the quiet assault on our Public Lands. We talk Forest fires, The mass firing and rehiring of thousands of Public Lands Employees, hypothesize what a privatized National Parks / Forest Service would look like, what can be done by the average person. We talk about a protest he organized in DC to rally folks around Public lands. We dip into the political realm, however, I think right now that can’t be helped.
In Part II:
We also get into his book that just came out and a little about his career, and getting struck by lightning twice! As well as his thoughts on PTSD. So please check out that episode.
