Description
Welcome to Gen Wars – the podcast where generations collide over cinema and media…and not everyone’s impressed.
Hosted by Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine, this is where Gen X nostalgia gets dragged into the cold, harsh light of Millennial judgment, and occasionally survives the roast. Occasionally.
Nick and Cam (Team Gen X) are your classic movie die-hards, who grew up on VHS tapes, mall theaters, and movie soundtracks on cassette.
Stephen and Katherine (Team Millennials) are catching up on the classics and are here to ask the real questions, like: "Was this actually good?"

What happens when a 13-year-old makes a wish to be “big” and the universe says, say less? Pure, unfiltered, 1980s. This week on Gen Wars, Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine jump headfirst into BIG (1988), the Tom Hanks coming-of-age fantasy that somehow managed to be heartfelt, hilarious, deeply uncomfortable, and a toy commercial all at once.Directed by Penny Marshall and starring Tom Hanks, Elizabeth Perkins, and Robert Loggia, and featuring the most iconic toy-store moment since…well, any toy store has ever existed, BIG follows Josh Baskin, a kid who makes a wish at a carnival fortune-telling machine to be “big.” He wakes up in a 30-year-old body, panics appropriately for about five minutes, lands a corporate job in New York like it’s a casual Tuesday, and somehow nobody in the entire tri-state area thinks to ask even ONE follow-up question.Gen X nostalgia hits HARD, Millennials start asking very loud questions, and Stephen absolutely spirals as the gang debates whether this movie “holds up,” what the movie is actually trying to say, and why no one calls the cops in 1988. Expect arguments about nostalgia bias, toy companies, Zoltar lore, Beast Wars conspiracies, piano scenes, and whether this movie accidentally invented the phrase “blurred morals.”Yes, Stephen is forced to go first, immediately reveals he doesn’t “do cringe” (which is hilarious because this movie tries to KO him in the first round), and spends the episode hovering somewhere between “this was fun” and “my skeleton is entering pre-rigor mortis.”💥 In this episode, we cover:The Zoltar/fortune teller machine situation (and why this thing shows up in more places than this movie)The FAO Schwarz piano scene (yes, it rules; yes, Stephen only knew it from TikTok… we continue the beatings)The toy company fantasy where being “childlike” gets you promoted in six weeks (corporate America really said: “You seem fun, here’s a corner office.”)How the movie is shockingly wholesome for long stretches and then suddenly hits you with “WAIT… HOLD ON…”The very real “this is a rom-com???” debate (Nick is ready with legal definitions, Stephen is ready to combust)We break it down using our patented Gen Wars criteria: nostalgia, production value, spirit, rewatchability, and overall thoughts, then fight about it anyway.Listen if you love:• 80s movies • FAO Schwarz & Giant floor pianos • Gen X vs Millennial debates • Snarky movie podcasts• Questioning your childhood favorites …this episode is for you.Like, Subscribe, and Comment: Does BIG still hold up, or did we all just get tricked by Tom Hanks and a toy piano?Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere you get podcastsWatch on YouTube for the full chaosFollow the hosts:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGames www.youtube.com/@fnkygames https://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQ twitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww#GenWars #Big1988 #TomHanks #PennyMarshall #80sMovies #MoviePodcast #FilmReview #ComedyPodcast #FAOSchwarz #Zoltar #Nostalgia #GenX #Millennials #PodcastClips #MovieDiscussion #ComingOfAge #FantasyComedy #ClassicMovies #YouTubePodcast #MovieTube #RetroMovies #FilmCriticism #PopCulturePodcast
Welcome back to Gen Wars, the generational movie podcast where Gen X drags Millennials kicking and screaming through cinema history and calls it education. This time, Nick, Cam, Stephen, and Katherine tackle the aggressively weird, wildly stylish, and completely unhinged The Fifth Element, aka Luc Besson asking, “What if Die Hard… but louder… and French?”Directed by Luc Besson, this 1997 sci-fi spectacle stars Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas, a future New York cab driver whose day goes from “traffic sucks” to “a genetically engineered supreme being just fell through my roof.” Enter Milla Jovovich as Leeloo, the literal Fifth Element, who can absorb all human knowledge instantly… yet still talks like she just rebooted Windows 95.Throw in Gary Oldman chewing the scenery as Zorg (a villain who looks like a melted crayon with corporate ambitions), Chris Tucker detonating the movie’s tone as Ruby Rhod, and Ian Holm doing priest stuff in space—and you’ve got a movie that absolutely refuses to calm down. This episode gets chaotic. We break down: - Why this movie could never be made today (and why James Gunn is the only man brave enough to try) - Practical effects that still slap vs CGI that politely asks for forgiveness - Opera aliens, magic stones, questionable age gaps, and rehydrated turkey dinners - Stephen declaring war on New York… again - Nick going full Reddit detectiveWe score it using the sacred Gen Wars criteria: nostalgia, production value, spirit, rewatchability, and overall vibes, and somehow land in “this movie is ridiculous… and we love it.”Is it perfect? No.Is it subtle? Absolutely not.Is it a cult sci-fi classic that just sends it for two hours? MULTI-PASS.Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and everywhere podcasts liveWatch, like, subscribe, and embrace the chaos.Follow the hosts:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGames www.youtube.com/@fnkygames https://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQ twitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww#moviepodcast #genwars #filmreview #podcast #genxvsmillennials #genwars #TheFifthElement #LucBesson #BruceWillis #MillaJovovich #GaryOldman #ChrisTucker #SciFiPodcast #MovieReview #90sMovies #CultClassic #SpaceOpera #PracticalEffects #RubyRhod #Leeloo #KorbenDallas
Grab your mustache wax and pour yourself a stiff whiskey—this week on Gen Wars, hosts Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine take on the legendary 1993 Western film Tombstone. In this episode of Gen Wars, our multi-generational crew breaks down one of the most iconic shoot-‘em-ups of the ’90s to see if it still holds its ground in cinematic history. Spoiler alert: someone says “I’m your huckleberry”.Directed by George P. Cosmatos (with heavy influence from screenwriter Kevin Jarre), Tombstone stars Kurt Russell as the stoic lawman Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer in a scene-stealing performance as the infamous gunslinger Doc Holliday. The film also features a powerhouse ensemble including Sam Elliott, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, and Michael Biehn.Set in the lawless town of Tombstone, Arizona, the story follows the legendary Earp brothers as they try to leave their gunfighting days behind—only to be dragged into a violent conflict with the ruthless outlaw gang known as THE Cowboys. Based on real historical events, Tombstone reimagines the famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and delivers unforgettable one-liners, stylized shootouts, and rich Western atmosphere. In this episode:• Is Tombstone the greatest modern Western, or just riding on star power?• What works, what doesn’t, and who in the Gen Wars crew had never seen it before? (we can make a pretty educated guess) • We ask the hard questions…Who is bad and who is good?• Face blindness runs rampant. Join hosts Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine as they fire up the wormhole and travel back to 1994 to review the cult classic sci-fi adventure film Stargate! In this episode, the Gen Wars crew dives deep into the intergalactic mythology, the film’s impact on '90s science fiction, and whether it still holds up today.Directed by Roland Emmerich, Stargate stars Kurt Russell as the hardened Colonel Jack O’Neil and James Spader as the brilliant but eccentric Egyptologist Dr. Daniel Jackson. The story begins when a mysterious ancient artifact—unearthed in Egypt—turns out to be a portal to another world. What follows is a journey through space and time, ancient alien civilizations, and high-stakes rebellion.Though it inspired a massive franchise including Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe, this 1994 original was the movie that launched it all—featuring iconic visuals, military sci-fi action, and themes of language, myth, and colonization. In this episode:Is Stargate underrated or overhyped?Which host connected most with the movie—and who was left cold?Did the film age well, or is it a relic best left buried? Keywords: Stargate movie review, Stargate 1994 podcast, Stargate Kurt Russell James Spader, Gen Wars podcast, sci-fi movie podcast, Stargate Emmerich, Stargate SG-1 origins, classic sci-fi film review, Stargate franchise discussion, 90s sci-fi movies, Gen X vs Millennials movie takes.Whether you're a longtime fan of the Stargate universe or just discovering the film, this episode is packed with fun commentary, heated opinions, and deep dives into '90s nostalgia.Like, subscribe, and hit the bell for more movie debates across the generations!Socials:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGameswww.youtube.com/@fnkygameshttps://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQtwitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww
In this episode of Gen Wars, your favorite generational movie podcast, the battle lines are drawn over Coralie Fargeat’s body-horror spectacle The Substance (2024). Hosts Nick and Cam (Gen X) square off with Katherine and Stephen (Millennials) in a heated, hilarious debate on whether this feminist fever dream deserved more recognition during awards season, or if it should’ve been left in the lab.Starring Demi Moore in a bold career-defining performance alongside Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, The Substance is a satirical sci-fi horror film drenched in 1980s aesthetics, practical effects, and Hollywood venom. When aging aerobics star Elizabeth Sparkle injects herself with a mysterious biotech formula promising a better version of herself, her world splits—literally. Inspired by genre icons like The Fly, Psycho, and The Shining, the film explores identity, vanity, and societal expectations around aging and beauty.Based on original screenplay work by director Coralie Fargeat (Revenge), this A24-esque fever dream is both grotesque and gorgeous, drawing rave reviews—and a fair share of confused stares.Cam thinks it’s all style, no soul. Katherine and Stephen argue it’s rich with symbolism and biting commentary on gender and Hollywood hypocrisy. And Nick? Let’s just say literacy may not be his strong suit this week.Topics covered: - Oscars snubs and wins (Best Makeup, anyone?) - Demi Moore’s surprising comeback - The body horror hall of fame - Hollywood ageism and feminist commentary - The roach motif... and 4 pounds of shrimp - Whether it’s actually rewatchable or just repulsiveIs The Substance cinematic brilliance or a self-indulgent mess? Let’s just say there are some strong opinions—and even stronger walk-offs—in this one.Subscribe to Gen Wars for generational showdowns, movie nostalgia, and hot takes hotter than Sue on a workout set.Socials:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGameswww.youtube.com/@fnkygameshttps://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQtwitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww
Welcome to Gen Wars, the only movie podcast where Gen X and Millennials gather to lovingly bully each other and review iconic films. This week, we’re tackling the 1988 cinematic fever dream Die Hard, aka The Christmas Movie Stephen Wasn't Prepared For But Has Opinions About Anyway.Your hosts:Nick - Die Hard Superfan #1, owner of more special editions than Nakatomi has floors.Cam - Die Hard Superfan #2, brings chaotic jolliness and questionable life advice.Katherine - Millennial with taste, carrying the responsibility of knowing how to summarize movies.Stephen - Has seen nothing, yet somehow has the spiciest hot takes. The Movie (In Case You're One of Stephen’s People):Directed by John McTiernan, starring Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, and based on the novel Nothing Lasts Forever, Die Hard follows NYPD officer John McClane as he tries to reconcile with his wife and instead ends up in a barefoot hostage situation led by Hans Gruber, a man so classy he could commit tax fraud and you’d still thank him.McClane then proceeds to single-handedly ruin the terrorists’ meticulously planned Christmas party using only grit, sarcasm, a machine gun, and the worst pair of feet in cinema history. In this episode, the Gen Wars squad dives into: - Whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie (Stephen said yes, and Nick hasn't stopped celebrating). - Hans Gruber’s villainy vs. his impeccable fashion sense. - Bruce Willis' commitment to crawling through vents like a disgruntled raccoon. - Katherine trying to keep this podcast on the rails (unsuccessfully). - Cam and Nick gushing like they’re starting a Die Hard church. - Stephen’s extremely bold statement that Holly “didn’t deserve it,” guaranteeing angry comments. We also break down nostalgia, production value, rewatchability, and the exact moment McClane achieves peak unhinged energy (“Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho.” Pure poetry.)If you love 80s action movies, Christmas debates, Alan Rickman’s smirk, or watching Millennials slowly lose their faith in humanity—you’re in the right place.LIKE. SUBSCRIBE. IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM, BUT THEY CAN HEAR GEN WARS ARGUE FOR 90+ MINUTES. This week on Gen Wars, Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine climb into a derelict space station, trip over corporate negligence, and absolutely lose their minds reviewing Alien: Romulus (2024), the latest chapter in the iconic Alien franchise that boldly asks: What if Alien…but also a requel…and also Gen Z…and also WAY too much goo?Directed by Fede Álvarez (Don’t Breathe), Alien: Romulus is set between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) and follows a group of young space colonizers who make the extremely bad decision to scavenge an abandoned station and immediately meet the galaxy’s worst roommate: the Xenomorph. Starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, this film delivers brutal kills, stunning practical effects, nightmare fuel visuals, and enough lore to make Nick yell at clouds (and space jockeys).- Is this the Rogue One of the Alien franchise or just another Wayland-Yutani HR violation?- Is it a prequel? A sequel? A requel? A soft reboot? A goo-based science experiment gone wrong?- Why does auto-aim exist now but NOT later?- Should the Alien franchise PLEASE stop making hybrids?- And who approved this many facehuggers in one room?!The Gen X side is tired. The Millennials are vibing.Everyone agrees the visuals slap.No one agrees on literally anything else.Your Hosts:Nick - Gen X rage incarnateCam - Gen X disappointment but louderStephen - Millennial optimism powered by chaosKatherine - Millennial logic, receipts, and zero fearIf you love Alien, Aliens, sci-fi horror, movie podcasts, practical effects, xenomorph lore, unhinged debates, and generational chaos, this episode is for you.Like, subscribe, and comment below:Is Alien: Romulus a triumphant return to form…or just another acid burn on the hull of a once-perfect organism?Socials:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGameswww.youtube.com/@fnkygameshttps://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQtwitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww
Did someone say Tommy Boy? Because Gen Wars just slammed the brakes, ripped the door off, and went full road-trip chaos on the 1995 comedy classic that defined a generation. This episode pits Gen X vs Millennials as Nick, Cam, Stephen, and Katherine argue, quote, cry-laugh, and emotionally overshare while reviewing Tommy Boy, starring Chris Farley and David Spade at maximum power.Directed by Peter Segal and produced by Lorne Michaels, Tommy Boy follows the lovable, underachieving Tommy Callahan as he teams up with sarcastic accountant Richard Hayden to save the family auto parts business after Tommy’s father dies. What follows is a Midwest road trip fueled by bad decisions, flying car doors, deer-related trauma, quotable one-liners, and pure physical comedy. Also starring Dan Aykroyd, Bo Derek, Brian Dennehy, and an uncredited Rob Lowe, because of course.Born out of the Saturday Night Live era (but not based on a specific SNL sketch), Tommy Boy flopped in theaters and then became a VHS/DVD cult classic, which makes it extremely Gen Wars-coded.In this episode we cover: - Fat Guy in a Little Coat (obviously) - Why this movie still slaps (or doesn’t) - Pre-9/11 movie zaniness that will never exist again - Buddy comedies, SNL movies, nostalgia bias, and unhinged scoring - Why Chris Farley was lightning in a bottleIf you love ’90s comedies, Chris Farley, David Spade, SNL movies, cult classics, movie podcasts, generational debates, and absolute chaos—this one’s for you.Like, Comment, Subscribe, And never trust a coat that’s clearly too small.Socials:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGameswww.youtube.com/@fnkygameshttps://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQtwitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww #tommyboy #review #podcast
Does anyone else feel like it’s Groundhog Day…or is it just us repeatedly yelling over each other? Welcome to Gen Wars, the generational movie podcast where Nick and Cam (Gen X) drag the Millennials (Stephen and Katherine) kicking and screaming through “classic cinema” while actively sabotaging the intro…on purpose. This episode, we’re stuck in the infinite time-loop fever dream that is Harold Ramis’ 1993 classic Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray as Phil Connors: a man so aggressively unpleasant the universe itself said, “Nope. Try again.” Joining him are Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott, and Ned Ryerson (aka Stephen Tobolowsky, aka your sleep paralysis demon).Quick synopsis (because time is fake):A smug TV weatherman heads to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to cover Groundhog Day, gets snowed in, and is then forced to relive February 2nd thousands (???) of times until he stops being a human dumpster fire. It’s existential dread. It’s a rom-com. It’s cosmic punishment. It’s the movie that invented the time loop trope and then sat back while Palm Springs, Edge of Tomorrow, Russian Doll, Happy Death Day, and even Majora’s Mask said “thanks for the homework.”Not based on any previous IP, this nightmare is 100% original, written by Danny Rubin and Harold Ramis, because apparently no one stopped them.We argue about: - How many days Phil was trapped (thousands? decades? an eternity??) - Whether this is a rom-com, a horror movie, or a spiritual trial by fire - Bill Murray’s charisma stat being inexplicably maxed out - Why modern movies would absolutely ruin this with a cursed old woman explaining the rulesThere are sirens. There is chaos. There is I Got You Babe psychological warfare.Drop a comment with what movie we should suffer through next, smash like, subscribe, and remember: don’t podcast angry.Socials: Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGameswww.youtube.com/@fnkygameshttps://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQtwitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww#GenWars #GroundhogDay #BillMurray #HaroldRamis #TimeLoop #MoviePodcast #FilmReview #90sMovies #ExistentialComedy #RomComOrHorror #CinemaDebate #GenXvsMillennials #Punxsutawney #MovieChaos
Are you not entertained?! Well…we hope you will be, because the Gen Wars crew — Nick, Cam, Stephen, and Katherine, are diving sword-first into Ridley Scott’s iconic 2000 historical epic Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and the legendary Oliver Reed in his final on-screen role. This week, our Gen X warriors (Nick & Cam) and our Millennial champions (Katherine & Stephen) ask the real question: Does Gladiator still hold up 25 years later, even the extended edition that stole 15 minutes of everyone’s life?Movie SummarySet in the dying days of the Roman Empire, Gladiator follows Maximus Decimus Meridius, Rome’s most trusted general, who is betrayed by the newly crowned emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix in full “please don’t marry your sister” mode). Stripped of title and freedom, Maximus is forced into the brutal world of gladiatorial combat, fighting his way across the empire not just for survival, but for vengeance, justice, and the chance to return to the wheat fields of home.Directed by Ridley Scott, scored by Hans Zimmer, and packed with practical effects, massive sets, real tigers (yes, really), and some of the most quoted lines in cinema history, Gladiator stands tall as one of Hollywood’s most ambitious epic dramas. And no, it’s not based on a previous IP, but it is inspired by real Roman emperors, legends, and enough historical chaos to make your high-school history teacher sweat. What the Hosts Brought to the Arena- Nick wonders if Russell Crowe is actually a Spaniard or just a well-oiled cement mixer with a sword.- Cam drinks a gallon of Haterade and still scores the movie higher than expected.- Katherine absolutely thrives on historical dramas, period pieces, tiger trivia, and pointing out how unhinged Commodus really was.- Stephen is shocked to discover that this 25-year-old film is what Hollywood should look like in 2024, and also shocked that he apparently hadn’t seen it before buying a “signed” copy from his “buddy Ridley Scott.”In this episode we cover:- Gladiator (2000) full review- The extended edition, was it worth the extra 15 minutes?- The cast, filmmaking, behind-the-scenes trivia, and Russell Crowe almost getting mauled by a real tiger- Ridley Scott’s direction & Hans Zimmer’s iconic score- Joaquin Phoenix’s deeply uncomfortable sibling energy- Why Cam is allergic to long movies- Why Stephen now thinks every movie needs a wheat field and Zimmer scoreSEO Keywords (quietly but effectively doing their job)Gladiator 2000 Review, Gladiator movie analysis, Russell Crowe Gladiator, Joaquin Phoenix Commodus, Ridley Scott films, Gladiator extended edition review, Gladiator podcast discussion, Gladiator reaction, Gladiator 25th anniversary, Gladiator behind the scenes, Hans Zimmer Gladiator soundtrack, Roman Empire movies, epic historical drama review, generational movie podcast, Gen Wars podcast, movie review 2024.Tell us in the comments: Should we suffer through Gladiator II next? Nick | Stephen | Cam | KatherineGen X vs Millennials…but with more Nintendo trauma and even more questionable 80s parenting.Welcome back to Gen Wars, the generational movie podcast where Gen X hosts Nick and Cam face off against Millennials Stephen and Katherine to battle over what counts as “quintessential cinema.” Today, we’re firing up the Nintendo Zapper, dodging CRT TVs that weigh as much as a Buick, and reviewing the holiday nostalgia-bomb 8-Bit Christmas (2021), directed by Michael Dowse, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Winslow Fegley, June Diane Raphael, and Steve Zahn.About the Movie8-Bit Christmas is a modern retelling of A Christmas Story, just with fewer BB guns and way more plastic Power Gloves that never worked. NPH narrates his childhood quest to secure the holy grail of 80s consumerism: the Nintendo Entertainment System. If the movie seems slightly unreliable about its own timeline…that’s because it absolutely is. (Stephen has a whole rant. Cam has a counter-rant. Katherine just wants the kid to get his Nintendo.Based on a story of 80s holiday chaos, the film blends retro gaming, Cabbage Patch riots, door-to-door fundraiser scams, basement movie marathons, and the beautifully reckless childhood activities Gen X somehow survived. In This Episode We Dive Into: - The very real 80s Nintendo mania - The not-so-real “42-inch tube TV” (Cam googled it) - Why the Power Glove sucked SO bad it’s art - 80s bullies who looked 27 - The moral conflict of puke-based distractions (Stephen is NOT okay) - Katherine demanding justice because the kid didn’t unwrap an NES - And the emotional ambush that punches everyone in the feelings at the endSEO Stuff Because the Algorithm Demands Sacrifice:8-Bit Christmas review, 8-Bit Christmas podcast, NES nostalgia, Nintendo Christmas movie, retro gaming movies, Neil Patrick Harris 8-Bit Christmas, Michael Dowse, 2021 Christmas movies, A Christmas Story remake, 80s nostalgia film review, generational podcast, Gen X vs Millennials, holiday movie review, funny movie podcast, retro gamer nostalgia, CRT TV jokes, Power Glove roast, Gen Wars podcast, Christmas movies ranked, 80s childhood nostalgia.Join the Gen Wars ChaosIf you’re into movie reviews, retro gaming culture, generational arguments, holiday nostalgia, or watching four adults slowly emotionally unravel over a Christmas movie… you’re in the right place.Happy Holidays & Merry “Please Don’t Drop a CRT on the Dog” Season!Subscribe for more chaotic generational showdowns, questionable memories, and CAPITALISM™.Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGameswww.youtube.com/@fnkygameshttps://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQtwitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww
Nick has locked the metaphorical cab doors again, which can only mean one thing: it’s time for another Gen Wars hostage situation, I mean movie review. This episode, the wheel has blessed/cursed us with Scrooged (1988), the unhinged, dark-comedy Christmas take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol that asks: What if Ebenezer Scrooge were a TV executive, deeply broken, possibly intoxicated, and played by Bill Murray?Directed by Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, The Goonies) and scored by Danny Elfman (Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Scrooged stars Bill Murray, Karen Allen, Bobcat Goldthwait, and several Murray brothers who were clearly just standing nearby when they called “Action.”Your Chaos Hosts: - Nick (Gen X) Nostalgia tank at 110%, HBO black box veteran, still emotionally attached to 1988 New York. - Cam (Gen X) Declares this “Peak Cam Childhood Cinema™” and somehow gives everything a 9. - Katherine (Millennial) Brought this movie to the wheel, loves the Ghost of Christmas Present, mildly concerned about the budget and the nipples. - Stephen (Millennial) Has never seen anything, doesn’t trust Bill Murray, and is still learning who Miles Davis is. Pray for him.In This Episode We: - Roast ’80s TV culture, corporate greed, and the idea of making everyone work a live Christmas Eve broadcast. - Break down Bill Murray’s “is this acting or a hostage video?” performance. - Talk Practical FX, creepy ghosts, frozen corpses, flaming coffins, and that Ghost of Christmas Future suit that’s somehow rad and busted at the same time. - Debate whether Scrooged is a Christmas classic, a dark-comedy fever dream, or just what happens when you give Bill Murray too much control and 35 million dollars.Scrooged 1988 movie review, Bill Murray Christmas movie, Richard Donner, Danny Elfman, A Christmas Carol adaptation, ’80s Christmas movies, dark comedy Christmas film, Karen Allen, Bobcat Goldthwait, Gen X vs Millennial movie podcast, retro holiday movie breakdown, Christmas movie tier list energy, Scrooged ending rant, best Christmas movies debate. If you love ’80s chaos, Christmas cynicism, and watching Millennials get culturally bullied by Gen X in real time make sure you, - Like the video - Subscribe - Ring the 🔔 so you don’t miss the next generational shouting match.Happy Holidays. Directed by Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky & Hutch, Kazaam), the film co-stars Maria Conchita Alonso, Richard Dawson, Jesse Ventura, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, and Professor Toru Tanaka (“Subzero”) in a neon-soaked vision of state-sanctioned spectacle. Based on Stephen King’s novel written as Richard Bachman, it follows framed ex-cop Ben Richards (Arnold) forced to survive a kill-or-be-killed TV arena against stalkers like Subzero, Buzzsaw, Dynamo, Fireball, and Captain Freedom. On this episode, the Generations throw down:Nick waves the nostalgia flag high and breaks down the tight-90 pacing, matte-painting worldbuilding, and why the score is burned into his brain.Cam loves the cheesy ’80s charm but ranks it against Commando, Total Recall, and T2 in the Arnold pantheon.Katherine calls out the surprisingly logical arc for Amber and the film’s media-manipulation theme.Stephen (first-time watch) debates the camp vs. craft balance, hacking scenes, and the infamous one-liner barrage. We grade it with our Gen Wars criteria, Nostalgia, Production Value, Spirit, Rewatchability, Overall Thoughts, then argue whether The Running Man predicted our binge-worthy reality-competition era.Like, comment your favorite stalker/one-liner, and tell us where this ranks in your Arnold list!Follow the hosts:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGames www.youtube.com/@fnkygames https://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQ twitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Views www.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww Keywords: The Running Man review, Arnold Schwarzenegger podcast, 1987 action movie, ’80s sci-fi, dystopian satire, Stephen King Richard Bachman, Subzero Buzzsaw Dynamo Fireball Captain Freedom, Richard Dawson Family Feud, Jesse Ventura, Yaphet Kotto, Maria Conchita Alonso, Gen X vs Millennial movie debate, cult classic, one-liners, reality TV prophecy.#moviepodcast #genwars #filmreview #podcast #genxvsmillennials #therunningman #runningman
Two generations. Two killers. One mask.In this Gen Wars double feature, Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine throw two boogeymen into the ring: John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) vs Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007). Two movies enter…one movie leaves.• Nick (our Gen X slasher historian) scores his least favorite slasher franchise, defend his points and fend off Stephen’s millennial chaos.• Stephen (the millennial chaos agent) First watch vibes. Enjoys Carpenters slow burn that grows on you.• Katherine (the millennial with film-school energy) breaks down the $300k budget, 20-day shoot and Library of Congress preservation. Halloween (’78) isn’t just a slasher; it’s film history. • Cam (our Gen X realist) calls it like it is…Rob Zombie bit off more than he could chew. Carpenter sets the tone with his score from second oneFrom The Shape to the stepdad no one asked for, we score each film across nostalgia, production value, spirit, rewatchability, and overall thoughts. Expect chaos, cinephile debates, and more “John Carter” mispronunciations than any Halloween deserves.Movies Discussed:Halloween (1978) – Directed by John Carpenter, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald PleasenceHalloween (2007) – Directed by Rob Zombie, starring Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell, and Sheri Moon ZombieFollow the hosts:Nick - Firehazard508 Creationswww.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsStephen - FNKYGames www.youtube.com/@fnkygames https://linktr.ee/FNKYCam - Never Touching Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQ twitch.tv/nevertouchingrassKatherine - Spectacle Views www.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfwwKeywords for the algorithm gods:Halloween movie review, Halloween 1978 vs 2007, John Carpenter, Rob Zombie, Michael Myers, Jamie Lee Curtis, horror movie podcast, generational movie debate, Gen X vs Millennials, spooky season, classic slasher films, Gen Wars podcast, Firehazard508 Creations, Spectacle Views, Never Touching Grass, Funky Games, Halloween remake review, Halloween film analysis, Carpenter vs Zombie#GenWars #Halloween1978 #Halloween2007 #MichaelMyers #JohnCarpenter #RobZombie #JamieLeeCurtis #DonaldPleasence #HorrorPodcast #MovieReview #SlasherMovies #SpookySeason #FilmAnalysis #RemakeVsOriginalLike, comment, and tell us which Halloween reigns supreme!Subscribe for more generational movie showdowns on Gen Wars!
Millennials go full sparkle. In this episode of Gen Wars, hosts Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine sink their teeth into Twilight (2008) directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Anna Kendrick, and Billy Burke. Based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster YA novel, this Pacific Northwest romance introduces Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and a coven of “we’re totally normal high schoolers with a Volvo” vampires. We unpack the plot (girl meets vampire, vampire smells… danger?), the infamous “hold on tight, spider monkey” moment, and whether sparkling counts as a superpower. What we dig into (and dig at): - Filmmaker & cast: Hardwicke’s moody, blue-tinted direction, Carter Burwell’s score, and a soundtrack era that gave us Muse, Paramore, and Blue Foundation. - IP roots: How the film adapts (and softens) Meyer’s vampire lore compared to classics like The Lost Boys and pop contemporaries. - Product placement lore: Team Volvo vs. “it should’ve been the wagon,” and why Forks still looks like everyone’s smelling farts. - The Gen Wars scorecard: Our 5-part rubric—Nostalgia, Production Value, Spirit/Intent, Rewatchability, Overall—gets a workout. - Nick (Gen X, sardonic dad energy): “Alive in 2008, not alive during this watch.” Overall: ~20%. - Stephen (millennial meme machine): “I was doomed at the voiceover.” Overall: around 50%. - Cam (FPS gremlin & pragmatist): “Zeros across the board” energy; rewatchability = nope. - Katherine (millennial defender of banger soundtracks): Nostalgia carries; Overall ~67% and ready to fight for the OST.Hit Subscribe, rate us on Spotify/Apple, and watch the full video on YouTube. This week on Gen Wars, hosts Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine pull back the curtain on Christopher Nolan’s twisting 2006 thriller The Prestige. A movie about magicians, murder, cloning (definitely), and the most passive-aggressive professional rivalry in cinematic history.Based on the 1995 novel by Christopher Priest, The Prestige stars Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as dueling stage magicians in Victorian England, whose obsession with outdoing each other escalates to committing acts against the natural order of things and murder. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film features a cast full of A-listers, including Michael Caine as Alfred "Exposition" Cutter, Scarlett Johansson as the unfortunate assistant/love triangle casualty, and David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. It’s a movie about deception, obsession, and literally dying for the bit. Whether you’re here for the magic, the mayhem, or just to hear four people spiral over whether is was teleportation or just duplication, this episode is packed with hot takes, cold reveals, and way too many references to drowning tanks and duplicating cats.Like, follow, and subscribe—or we’ll reveal the twist early.Socials: Firehazard508 Creations:www.youtube.com/@UCvpfk8dQzsRjOKN2aviez9g https://linktr.ee/firehazard508creationsko-fi.com/firehazard508creationsFNKY GAMES: www.youtube.com/@fnkygames https://linktr.ee/FNKYSpectacle Viewswww.youtube.com/@UCWnjnjmNFwXiKxQxlq7tfww Never Touchin Grasswww.youtube.com/@UCTLwiteAhahVQzM0P8ZDwpQ twitch.tv/nevertouchingrassSEO-Friendly Keywords:The Prestige movie review, Christopher Nolan The Prestige, Gen Wars podcast The Prestige, Christian Bale vs Hugh Jackman, The Prestige explained, David Bowie Nikola Tesla, Scarlett Johansson The Prestige, 2006 mystery thriller review, The Prestige podcast episode, Christopher Nolan film analysis, Gen X vs Millennial movie debate, top hat cloning machine, The Prestige plot twist, The Prestige book vs movie#ThePrestige #GenWars #MoviePodcast #ChristopherNolan #ChristianBale #HughJackman #ScarlettJohansson #DavidBowie #TeslaMovie #FilmReview #MovieAnalysis #GenXvsMillennials #ThePrestigeExplained #TwistEnding #MagicMovies
This week on Gen Wars, the monster-sized crew, Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine—dives headfirst into the rubble of Godzilla Minus One (2023), the critically acclaimed Japanese reboot that proves once again that no one does kaiju existential dread quite like Toho.Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One follows Koichi Shikishima (played by Ryunosuke Kamiki), a traumatized kamikaze pilot who survived World War II… only to get PTSD part two when Godzilla shows up looking like death with a tail. Set in a ruined postwar Japan, this Godzilla isn’t just smashing skyscrapers—he’s stomping on survivors’ last scraps of hope like it’s personal. Honestly? Kind of rude.A spiritual reset for the franchise, Godzilla Minus One ditches the cheesy monster brawls and rubber suits for terrifying realism, emotional stakes, and the most effective use of train tracks since Snowpiercer. Just when you thought it was safe toscroll your podcast feed... Nick, Stephen, Cam, and Katherine are back to chompdown on Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic Jaws. The film that turned a rubbershark into a box office legend and beach vacations into lifelong trauma. Based on Peter Benchley’s novel(which was somehow less subtle), Jaws tells the story of a sleepy beach townthat becomes an all-you-can-eat buffet for a very large, very cranky greatwhite shark. Enter Roy Scheider as Chief Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as the scienceguy with a mustache, and Robert Shaw as Quint, the salty sea dog captain.Together, they form the unlikeliest boy band in cinematic history, sailing outto settle the score with Bruce the Shark™. This is the movie that basicallyinvented the summer blockbuster, made John Williams’ two-note theme scarierthan actual sharks, and proved once and for all that the real monster… ismunicipal bureaucracy. In the episode: Nick & Cam share their fear of pool sharks, especially at night when they are the most active. Nick pays respect to the practical effects and the restoration of a classic prop Stephen comes to some realizations about other movies Spielberg directed. Cam talks men being men and sharing their scars. Katherine shows her appreciation for the entire movie and what it did for summer blockbusters.
