William Porter is the author of Alcohol Explained, a book that’s helped thousands rethink their relationship with drinking by breaking down how alcohol really affects our brains and bodies in straightforward, no-nonsense terms. He drank for over 25 years before quitting for good in 2014, and now uses his own experience plus deep curiosity about the science of addiction to support others on their sobriety journeys. William’s insights are practical, relatable, and rooted in lived experience — which made our conversation today both eye-opening and a lot of fun.

Today we'll dive into his powerful story,
At 66, sitting in his laundry room reading Bruce Lipton’s “The Biology of Belief,” Steve experienced his breakthrough discovery: every existing method tries to install new software over corrupted programs – impossible and ineffective. His revolutionary 3-Step Subconscious Reprogramming Process finally addressed this gap by scientifically identifying, uninstalling, and installing new programming.

Today I’m so grateful to have Sue on the show — she’s 9½ years sober, and she brings the kind of steady, caring presence that holds us all up, like the backstage hero in a theatre piece. Sue runs the room, gives wise direction, and supports everyone — yet she’s never lost being wonderfully herself!
We talk about our collective experience in AA and how now, she is a non-drinker. Almost as if she never drank as opposed to a "recovered....etc" She does not really embrace the labels, and after hearing her story, you will know why!

Today, we’ll be diving deep into Intoxicating Lies by Maegan Geisewite, a powerful narrative that challenges the conventional perceptions of alcohol use. Maegan bravely shares her personal experiences with drinking and uncovers the societal myths that keep many of us trapped in our relationship with alcohol. Her book fills a vital gap for those navigating the complexities of their drinking—neither fully embracing sobriety nor oblivious to the impacts of their choices.
Join me as we explore these important topics and discuss how confronting the intoxicating lies about alcohol can lead us to a more authentic and liberated life. Let’s get started!

Today, I sit down with DeAnna. What a delight to be taken on a journey with her through her first exposure to drinking and through a time of being a mom, then the party mom, and the tragedy that ensued. There were good times, as life with alcohol can offer temporarily, and the undignified end. One thing is for sure: DeAnna did the most courageous thing a person can do. She reached out for help and is now a walking symbol of integrity. She now shares a serene and happy life. Whether it's kayaking on the water with some AA friends, enjoying time with her loving husband, children, and many friends. AA has been a central part of her recovery, and after speaking with her and getting to know her a little better, it has been an absolute pleasure. Thank you, DeAnna. I'm looking forward to staying in touch. Much Love

Today I sat down with one of our members, Johnny Savic. He is a father of 3 and genuinely devoted! He started drinking the way most of us do. We are social creatures, so it's the most natural thing to drink socially in our society, but like so many of us, he found himself taking it to another level; in fact, he took it to the brink of suicide.
Thankfully, he thought of his kids and clung to life; however, it wasn't until the law caught up with him that it sobriety was able to take hold. He chose life and the choice for Love.
Now he beams with it, and I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did.

I sat down today with Phil Jordan, whose life is unrecognizable from just a few short years ago. In fact; "6 years ago, I made a promise to myself: no more alcohol.
I didn’t know what the future would look like. I just knew I wanted — needed — something different.
Today, I’m standing here with a heart full of gratitude, reflecting on a life that has become more beautiful than I ever thought possible."
-and it shows! I learned a few very practical mindsets myself today and thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him. I hope you do too!

This week, I had the privilege of chatting with one of my mentors, Janet Gourand, CEO and founder of the Tribe Sober Community platform and the Host of the Tribe Sober Podcast. This online community was where I pushed off from her boot camp, coaching workshops, and Breaking Free programs, not to mention online Zoom Cafes and chat groups, which had eluded me for 19 years: long-lasting and sustainable sobriety and freedom from alcohol. I've also been able to apply her methods to other areas of my life including getting the podcast on the air. I enjoyed our chat very much and if you would like to connect with Janet directly, you can do so at Janet@tribesober.com Find her podcast TRIBE SOBER on Spotify and visit her website for membership at www.tribesober.com
I was scrolling through my Facebook group, SOBER AND FREE and for some reason, I happened upon Gordon's sobriety stay of 27 years. When I saw that he had really made a success for himself in the music business, not easy, and was open to talking to me, I invited him to be a guest on the cast. Images of Eden, his Faith band, is a fearless concept band that brings together familiar, well-loved elements of metal and rock combined with their own unique vision, message, and delivery. And it's just great music. Check out Images of Eden on Spotify and before that, enjoy my chat with their lead singer today on Sober and Free.
In this episode, we hear an incredible story of the ups and downs of a family broken apart by loneliness and living life on HARD. From a successful mom and & part-time business entrepreneur to a desperate and homeless drug addict, here is a woman with a fight and resilience in her that very few could predict. She is surprisingly steady and strong and built her life again from the ashes. I was riveted as I journeyed with her along a path strewn with parole hearings and heartbreak, Join me and Lynn as she finds Sobriety and Freedom!
