Week 6 college football was pure CHAOS, and my NEW Top 25 rankings have some massive shakeups! Georgia takes down Alabama, Miami continues to dominate, BYU keeps winning, and Texas Tech, Utah, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Indiana are battling for position. But which teams ACTUALLY deserve to be ranked? On today's episode of First and 16, I'm breaking down my updated College Football Top 25 rankings after Week 6, including the biggest winners, losers, overrated teams, and potential College Football Playoff contenders. We're also talking about the growing controversy surrounding ESPN's College GameDay and whether the national media is disrespecting the smaller programs and conferences that make college football special. My recent post about College GameDay reached more than 1.4 MILLION views on X, and it's sparked an important conversation. Topics include: Miami, Georgia, and Notre Dame battling for the top spots BYU, Utah, and Texas Tech representing the Big 12 Alabama's loss and the SEC playoff debate Texas, Houston, and Oklahoma State in the rankings UCLA's surprising undefeated season Why two-loss teams are OUT of my Top 25 ESPN College GameDay controversy How NIL and the transfer portal are changing college football Unlike the preseason-influenced AP Poll, my rankings focus on what teams have actually accomplished ON THE FIELD. It's Prove It To Me Week in the Big 12. The schedule may not look loaded with marquee matchups, but this could be one of the most important weekends of the season for the conference. BYU puts its undefeated season on the line against Iowa State before a massive matchup with Notre Dame. Oklahoma State needs to take care of UCF. Houston gets a major road test at Kansas State. Utah has to avoid an upset against Kansas. Arizona travels to West Virginia with a chance to strengthen its case as one of the Big 12's better teams. Pasted text Pasted text Adam gives his score predictions for every Big 12 game and explains why the conference needs its ranked teams to keep winning if it wants to strengthen its national reputation and potentially put six teams into the Top 25. Pasted text Plus, we break down some of the biggest games around the country, including: Texas vs. Oklahoma UCLA vs. Oregon Georgia vs. Alabama Indiana vs. Nebraska And Adam gives you the games you should be watching in every time slot. Could UConn and South Florida be future members of the Big 12? A new realignment discussion involving Jim Williams, the Big 12's next media-rights negotiations and the changing television landscape has put UConn and USF squarely into the expansion conversation. In this episode of First and 16, Adam breaks down why these two programs could make sense for the Big 12, what a potentially aggressive CBS/TNT bid for Big 12 media rights around 2030 could mean, and how future college-sports legislation could completely reshape conference realignment. USF brings Florida recruiting, the Tampa market and a new on-campus stadium. UConn brings one of the biggest brands in college basketball and significant national recognition. If the Big 12 eventually wants to grow toward 20 members—and ACC programs are unavailable—those two schools could become very intriguing candidates. We also discuss possible alternatives including Boise State, Oregon State, San Diego State and UNLV, and whether Brett Yormark's push to maximize the value of Big 12 basketball could make UConn especially attractive. Is Big 12 expansion actually coming? Nothing is guaranteed. Adam gives the idea roughly a 3–3.5 out of 10 chance right now—but in college football realignment, we've seen far crazier things happen. The AP Top 25 is a mess, and a lot of that can be attributed to the preseason rankings which in today's landscape of college football are nothing more than a forecast.
The Big 12 season is nearing the halfway point, so it's time for a REALITY CHECK. Which teams have exceeded preseason expectations? Which fan bases should be feeling good? Who still has hope — and whose season is basically already over? On this episode of First and 16, I rank every Big 12 team based on where they stand compared to expectations entering the season. Utah and Baylor headline the teams that should be absolutely thrilled, while BYU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Kansas State are sitting in strong positions. Meanwhile, Colorado and TCU have reached a much different point in their seasons. Pasted text We also break down: BYU's path toward the College Football Playoff Texas Tech's legitimate chance to go undefeated Utah's emergence as a Big 12 contender Baylor's surprising turnaround Oklahoma State's Big 12 Championship hopes Houston, Arizona and Cincinnati hanging around The growing concerns at Colorado and TCU Subscribe to First and 16 as we chase 1,000 subscribers before the end of the regular season!
