Herbs and Dreams

Grandmother Jyoti Ma is an internationally renowned spiritual teacher, grandmother vision keeper and one of my deepest inspirations. I first discovered her through the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, whom she was instrumental in helping to convene, as you will hear in the episode.  You and I are very blessed to have this time with her. Other projects she has helped to convene are the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers and the Unity Concert. She is the founder of The Fountain (https://thefountain.earth) Its mission is to restore an economic model that is based on reciprocity and collaboration guided by Nature and the Sacred. She serves as a delegate of the Mother Earth Delegation of United Original Nations.  And it is through this current work in collaboration with the Fountain that a global Sacred Territories Initiative is evolving to protect Mother Earth’s sacred sites and Her Original Peoples.  Jyoti has devoted her life to bringing unity to the planet by facilitating the development of alliances between individuals who are the guardians of indigenous culture and traditional medicine ways. What are altars? They are not some far off concept allowed only for spiritual people living in temples. All people of purpose, soul, intention and prayer CAN and likely already ARE making altars. Altars are declarations to the forces of life of who we are, what we are choosing and what we'd like help with. They are where we feed and grow the energies we'd like to see more of in our lives and world.  For example, having a dream altar WILL grow your dreaming and remembering.  I believe that the web of life would like us to reclaim our practice of altars and align them with a prayer to benefit All Life. She's a community herbalist and has lit the little green flame in the hearts of thousands of students. "We are here to dismantle all forms of coloniality that make people unfree in the world," she jumps right into saying.  Bevin is a weaver who has given up on fighting systems and instead focuses on helping people free themselves from within.  Bevin shares how her dreaming came online when her spirituality started waking up, beginning with nightmares when she was living in New York City. These dreams, she says, came to alert her that 1) she was being affected by the thin walls she was living in, 2) she was far more powerful than she realized and 3) she was doing more spiritual/energetic work when awake and asleep than she was aware of. As so many of my learnings are, this one was inspired by observing my kids. We all know the old adage that what we think on grows... and this just might explain WHY, lullabies - a quiet, gentle song to sing us to sleep - is a practice found across the world and across time.   We explore how protection is a web of love that we are embedded within, and the importance of having life-and-love-affirming beliefs about dreams... beliefs that affirm goodness, benevolence, beauty, soul, and interconnection. What we believe grows. What we think on as we are falling asleep influences our dreaming. We can bless ourselves and each other and this just might help shape our dreams. It was truly my honor to sit down with Grandmother Robin Youngblood in the Dream Barn to discuss the upcoming Dance to Heal the Earth in Chimacum, WA on Sept 5-8th 2025.  Grandmother Robin shares how when she was under the mud and water in the Oso Mudslide of 2014 (the deadliest mudslide in human history) she heard Mother Earth scream that she didn't want this to happen, didn't want this mountain to come down, didn't want the animals and the people to be harmed. It was due to human error. Following the mudslide, Grandmother Robin was lead to bring forward Dance to Heal the Earth.  The dance is for everyone and everything, for restoring the balance of the masculine and feminine and celebrating joy and gratitude for all life, and for enacting what Mother Earth needs from us now.  Grandmother Robin teaches us the importance of building community at the local level to support each other through the times that are here and and are coming.  She speaks of how we need to listen to the land, be reverent to the land, to ask the land what it wants before acting, just as all native people have always known and practiced - we aren't different from the land, we are the land. Grandmother Robin talks about the Hopi prophecy and how "we are the ones we've been waiting for," stresses the importance of finding out what our role is to play on behalf of Mother Earth and All Our Relations. This episode is actually the first lesson in my Dreamweavers: Foundations Course. I'm offering it here for free because if you just implement what you learn here - it can change the course of your life for the better.  I begin by setting the scene around where we are at in this collective moment: dreamers who have by and large, forgotten they came to this world with the power to dream. We explore how dreaming is the final frontier in human consciousness - one of the last strongholds of terrain where our consciousness is not tracked, exploited and commodified in this age of algorithms. By turning towards our dreams we are making a declaration to these forces - NO! We are going to maintain our ability to dream the future.  We explore how, as Albert Einstein said, we cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it. And this precise reason is WHY we need to dream - to find solutions to the many problems faced by the collective mind that has created the problems we are currently at the consequence of. We will explore how the first step in our dreamweaving journey is to cultivate healthy soil on which to build the foundation of our dreamweaving practice.  So we explore beliefs to help grow this healthy soil - beliefs that are free from the overculture's grasp such as dreams grow soul dreams are love letters from source dreams are a connection to the web of life and all of nature dreams are messages from God. He dives right into teaching us that the Dream of the Earth communicates to us through our instincts, feelings, synchronicities, waking visions and nighttime dreams. These are instructions from her on what is ours to do to heal the whole system, which is her whole body.  In this time of collective initiation, the dark night of the species soul, where as Randy says, no less than a new human is being born... dreams are here for us. Randy has been walking with dreams for 50+ years. He says dreams have never let him down, proving time again that they love us unconditionally and want us to do the work that we were sent here to do. Dreams are the best compass he's found to figuring out why he came. I couldn't agree more.    Randy spent early years in Hiroshima, Japan where it became crystal clear to him that all we do affects future generations. Since then his life has been fueled by a prayer to support future generations. His life is an inspiration and testament to what's possible for us all.
