In a world where social media, online articles, journalists to media personnel - the way Newcastle United is covered in the modern day has totally changed. Back in the 90's and early 2000's, coverage of the Magpies in the Premier League stemmed from newspapers and fanzines. Now in 20206 it's all digital and everyone is your click, however this is where fake news kicks in because it drives traffic, the same method if someone is negative about their football club. The Premier League has introduced a new set of financial rules, which will replace the existing Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) from the 2026/27 season. Developed through extensive consultation with clubs and a wide range of stakeholders, these rules are designed to secure financial sustainability of clubs, while promoting long-term investment and protecting the competitive balance of the Premier League. They aim to achieve this in a way where compliance can be monitored and enforced "in season" to promote certainty and clarity for fans, clubs and stakeholders. In developing the new financial system, the Premier League has sought to devise a framework that works effectively in parallel with UEFA’s rules and is consistent with the objectives of the Independent Football Regulator. This page provides a simplified summary of the Premier League’s new financial system, outlining how it will work and the key objectives that underpin it. The full set of rules will be published in Section E of the Premier League Handbook in due course. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Newcastle missed the chance to climb into the Premier League's top five after being held to a goalless draw at battling Wolves. The Champions League-chasing Magpies were looking for a fourth straight league win for the first time since April, but lacked inspiration as striker Nick Woltemade again drew a blank. The £69m Germany forward, who scored on his Newcastle debut against Wolves in September, now has just three goals in his past 19 games and was replaced by Yoane Wissa in the second half.Eddie Howe's side would have gone fifth with a win by two clear goals, but did not manage a shot on target until the 85th minute - although they did move up a place to eighth with this point.Rock-bottom Wolves are 14 points from safety and have other priorities, but have rediscovered their drive and - more importantly - their organisation in recent weeks. While it will be too late to save them after failing to win any of their opening 19 games, there is at least growing optimism for the future under boss Rob Edwards.Much of that comes from teenage breakthrough star Mateus Mane, who hooked a shot at Nick Pope, while Jose Sa saved late efforts from Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.Woltemade's goal struggles will be a growing concern for Howe - and the striker's barren spell could dent Newcastle's Champions League hopes.Just three goals in his past 19 games is not a total Woltemade or his manager would have expected after a goalscoring debut against Wolves in September. The German scored five times in his first eight matches after a club record move from Stuttgart in an impressive start to life in the north east. But that confidence has ebbed away and the 23-year-old was replaced by Wissa midway through the second half after another fruitless outing.Woltemade was not given a great deal of service, but what he did have to work with he wasted - including a glancing first-half header which he may have done better with.He still has seven goals in 19 appearances, but if he fails to re-find his shooting boots it will harm the Magpies' top-four chances.Newcastle had scored seven goals in their past three league matches - all wins - before coming to Molineux, but with just one by a striker (Wissa's goal against Burnley). The Magpies did not have a shot on target while Woltemade was on the pitch on Sunday - albeit a statistic he is not entirely responsible for - and will view a stalemate against the league's bottom side as a wasted opportunity. However, Wolves have rediscovered their fight and a point in a forgettable match was a fair result, even if Newcastle will have reasons to be deflated. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Chelsea forward Joao Pedro haunted former suitors Newcastle United as his side showed their powers of recovery to come back from 2-0 down and claim a point. It looked a long way back for Chelsea at a raucous St James' Park after a well-taken double from Nick Woltemade put Newcastle in control at half-time.But no side have dropped more points - 13 - from winning positions in the Premier League than Newcastle. So the stadium suddenly felt a little nervy when Chelsea captain Reece James pulled one back with a pinpoint 25-yard free-kick just a few minutes into the second half.It then turned a little hostile when Newcastle were denied a penalty after Trevoh Chalobah bodychecked Anthony Gordon inside the box before Chelsea equalised. Joao Pedro, who opted to move to Chelsea ahead of Newcastle last summer, drew his side level. The Brazilian raced through on goal and slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale after capitalising on a slip from defender Malick Thiaw. It set up a grandstand finish as the game became increasingly stretched and Harvey Barnes had a glorious opportunity to win it for Newcastle late on, but the substitute fired wide on the volley to leave head coach Eddie Howe covering his face with his hands on the touchline. Chelsea remain six points clear of Newcastle in fourth while Howe's side are in 11th for the time being. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Joe once again had the pleasure of going on the Overlap, love him or hate him, he got in the debate with Elena, a Sunderland fan & even rattled a few feathers of Arsenal & Aston Villa on the show. The Wear-Tyne derby is fast approaching with under two weeks to go at the Stadium Of Light as Eddie Howe will be hoping for another victory on enemy territory. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United’s November international break saw a mixed set of fortunes for their players, with several key names representing their countries while others were forced to withdraw due to injury. The Magpies had 12 players called up across England, Italy, Brazil, Germany, and Sweden, highlighting the squad’s growing international profile. Dan Burn featured for England in World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, while Bruno Guimarães continued to impress for Brazil. Sandro Tonali was included in Italy’s squad for their crucial qualifier against Moldova, though his situation drew headlines after a surprise decision regarding his availability. Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope were both withdrawn from England duty due to injury concerns, a blow for their personal ambitions but potentially a relief for Eddie Howe, who will want them fit for Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures.Elsewhere, Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw represented Germany, while Anthony Elanga linked up with Sweden. The break came at a difficult time for Newcastle, who entered it on the back of consecutive Premier League defeats to West Ham and Brentford, despite taking early leads in both matches. Fans have grown frustrated with the dip in form, but the pause offered Howe a chance to regroup and reset ahead of a daunting run of fixtures. When domestic action resumes, Newcastle face Manchester City at St James’ Park on 22 November, followed by a crucial Champions League clash away to Marseille and then a Premier League trip to Everton. With international duties wrapped up, Howe will hope his returning stars bring confidence and momentum back to Tyneside, as the Magpies look to reignite their season. Hosted on Acast. Igor Thiago scored a late double as Brentford came from behind to defeat Newcastle United and extend the visitors' miserable Premier League record on the road. Harvey Barnes had put Newcastle ahead in the first half at the Gtech Community Stadium after lashing the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from inside the box. But Brentford came roaring back after the break and the hosts drew level through Kevin Schade's header after Sven Botman could only flick Michael Kayode's long throw across the box to the forward, who nodded home.It was Brentford, rather than Newcastle, who pushed for a winner and the hosts were awarded a spot-kick by referee Stuart Attwell when Dan Burn took down Dango Ouattara inside the box. Burn, who was relieved to avoid punishment after fouling Ouattara inside the box only a few minutes earlier, was sent off after being shown a second yellow card. It fell to substitute Aaron Ramsdale, on his first league appearance for Newcastle, to try to save Thiago's penalty after a groggy Pope went off following an awkward landing. But the goalkeeper's first act of the afternoon was to pick the ball out of the net after Thiago coolly sent him the wrong way from the spot. There was still time for Thiago to add another after Malick Thiaw failed to deal with a through ball and the Brentford striker finished past Ramsdale once again. Newcastle, who have slipped to 14th place, have now failed to win an away league game since April. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Peter Silverstone, Newcastle's Chief Commercial Officer, has been placed on gardening leave and will leave the club after three years. His departure is part of a 100-day internal review led by new CEO David Hopkinson, who replaced Darren Eales earlier this year. Silverstone is expected to take up a business role at Juventus, marking a return to continental football. The review has already led to two other senior exits: Paul Mitchell, former sporting director, was replaced by Ross Wilson. Darren Eales, former CEO, officially departed in October.Manager Eddie Howe confirmed that a sickness bug has affected several players ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Athletic Club. Bruno Guimaraes, the team captain, is a major doubt after missing training. Other affected players include: Sandro Tonali, Jacob Murphy, Kieran TrippierHowe stated: “He’s such an important player for us but he’s clearly not been himself and that’s why he missed training today.”Newcastle are preparing for a Champions League home match against Athletic Club. The illness outbreak and recent injuries (e.g., Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa with knee issues) could significantly impact squad selection. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Spirited West Ham came from behind to record their first home win of the season against Newcastle United at the London Stadium. Jacob Murphy had given Newcastle the lead with an effort from the edge of the area in the opening stages - just seconds after West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen hit the post at the other end. But West Ham rallied and the hosts' eventually got their rewards when Lucas Paqueta lashed home an equaliser from outside the box.West Ham then took the lead just before half-time when the sliding Sven Botman turned Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross into his own net. Nuno Espirito Santo's team went on to score a third in stoppage time when substitute Tomas Soucek tapped in the rebound after Pope had denied Bowen. It was the least West Ham deserved following a committed display by the hosts, who earlier had a penalty award overturned after a video assistant referee (VAR) review. Referee Robert Jones changed his mind after consulting his pitchside monitor, with the television footage showing Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw touching the ball before making contact with Bowen inside the area. But not only did West Ham go on to find a way back into the game - they won it. The Hammers remain in the relegation zone but are now three points behind 17th-placed Burnley following a first league win under Nuno since he took charge in September. Newcastle, meanwhile, have not triumphed on the road in the Premier League in seven months. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. A pair of headers from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade sent holders Newcastle United into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Tottenham. Spurs have hurt a number of sides with their aerial ability this season, particularly at set-plays, but the much-changed hosts gave Thomas Frank's team a taste of their own medicine at St James' Park.Newcastle took the lead midway through the first half when Schar easily rose above Lucas Bergvall to head them in front from Sandro Tonali's corner. Spurs players protested to referee Chris Kavanagh as Tonali took the corner just as defender Djed Spence got to his feet after putting his boot back on, but the goal stood. Woltemade doubled his side's lead with his sixth goal of the season after the German met Joe Willock's scooped cross and nodded past goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who missed the ball completely.Spurs went close to immediately pulling one back when midfielder Pape Sarr's first-time effort forced Aaron Ramsdale into a flying save to his left. But Newcastle, who also had Harvey Barnes smack the bar with an acrobatic effort, saw the game out to reach the last eight of the competition for the fourth consecutive season. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle head to the Amex Stadium with momentum, but manager Eddie Howe struck a measured tone in his pre-match press conference. He confirmed that Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento are still being monitored closely, with Hall likely to miss out due to a lingering knock, while Livramento remains a doubt but could feature depending on late fitness tests. Interestingly, Howe also addressed Yoane Wissa, clarifying that although Wissa is not a Newcastle player, his name came up in broader injury discussions—likely a mix-up or media speculation. On the administrative side, Howe praised Ross Wilson, Newcastle’s director of football, for his strategic vision and calm leadership, noting that Wilson’s influence has been “transformative” in shaping the club’s recruitment and long-term planning. With Brighton’s attacking flair and Newcastle’s defensive resilience, this fixture could hinge on tactical discipline and squad depth. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT.
