About a year ago, I pulled into the Triple M carpark with the Podvan (which was a WEIRD moment - after years of driving past it every weekday on my way to a competing breakfast radio show!) and I had a great chat with Maz Compton. Maz does the show with Paddy Gerrard and we go waaaaaay back! In fact, she said that I was the first person to ever put her on air!We went to all sorts of places - including this bit, where Maz talked about quitting drinking, and getting her endometriosis diagnosis. If you enjoy it - and want to hear the full episode, just scroll back and look for Ep 48!Thanks for listening! Have a great day! 🤗Rabs
First up, a bit of a warning on this one. This episode deals with the loss of a child. There's tears, there's (surprisingly) a lot of laughs - and there's actually a positive message out of the whole thing. It's a beautiful episode - but I wanted to give you a heads-up, so it didn't come out of the blue and trigger something for you. 🤗When the Podvan rolled up to the Cancer Council's annual Relay for Life, I didn't know who I'd meet there. I couldn't have imagined I’d sit down with Lou and Rob, the proud parents of a champion - who I'd actually met a few years ago. Their son, Spencer, was a 10 year old entrepreneur that launched "Spins Bins," a wheelie bin cleaning empire. In the episode, Lou and Rob share their story about finding laughter and light in the darkest of times, what keeps them going, (one minute at a time) and the incredible community that has rallied around them. Please leave a comment and rate the podcast if you enjoy the episode - it really does help! ❤️Rabs. "I don't feel comfortable asking people for money."This is a bit of a different one... it's a podcast within a podcast! My business coach (Marcus Kroek) asked me to go on his Business Unlocked podcast, to talk about my journey from employee to business owner. We chat about everything from how I learned to define my own version of success (it's actually not about the money) to why I needed to stop working 24/7. If you're in business yourself, you might get some helpful stuff from this chat. If you're not, I hope you'll just enjoy a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at the mindset shifts I've had to make along the way. Oh man, if you haven't heard this story - you're in for a treat!! (And it's super short and sweet!)Julie had a great idea: let's bring back our old radio segment, Thankful Thursday! Simple, right? WRONG.What if someone listens on a Saturday? Or starts on a Thursday but finishes on a Monday?! The panic was real, but the jingle I came up with to solve this ridiculous, self-inflicted problem is even better.Remember, if you'd like to hear the whole episode it came from, just search for Episode 47 of The Podvan Podcast! I had the absolute pleasure of having a last-minute sit-down with the brilliant Jen, who runs the Central Coast 'Walk It Off' ladies group. What started as a chat about mental health quickly went in soooo many incredible and unexpected directions.Jen opens up about how she lost 44 kilos, and the huge mental and emotional journey that comes with it. We also get into her life as a female carpenter, why some men find her independence 'intimidating', and how being raised by an incredible single mum shaped the woman she is today. This is an AWESOME chat! Actually - if you enjoy it, please leave a comment on the episode! 🤗Let’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
Kofi and Talula jumped in the Podvan about a year ago in Long Jetty, while they were here backpacking around Australia. In this Quick Fix, you'll hear how Kofi dropped out of uni and started a "Solo Travel Vlog" from scratch - to the point where he now has over 100,000 followers on his socials and travels the world for a job!If you enjoy this Quick Fix, you can just scroll back through to episode 49 and you can hear the whole chat!Let’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
I really hope Julie doesn't read the title of this one... But, I mean - it's actually what's coming up in this episode!!We talk about some of the things I brought back from Thailand (including a strange rash 😳) and Julie sings a VERY strange song. (Please let me know if you've ever heard it before!!!)It's a good episode full of nonsense and laughs. About a year ago, I rolled up to the Triple M carpark in Gosford to have a chat with Maz (one half the brekky team there) - and then the other half of the show barged in... 😂 Enjoy! If you want to hear the whole episode - it's number 46!!
For my 200th episode, I wanted to introduce my Podvan family... to my actual family! It's my Mum and Dad!So, in this one, we talk about the time I was at my absolute lowest, and they drove 10 hours from Melbourne for a surprise hug I didn't even know I needed. We also finally get the story about why I went to a psychiatrist when I was three years old (what?!), and we find out what they really thought about this "Podcast from inside a caravan" idea when they first heard it. Mum's response is HILARIOUS!!! And to you, if you're reading this, thank you. 🤗 I mean, for reading this for starters - because I don't even know if anyone does... But also for your support - and for being part of this beautiful Podvan family. Here's to the next 200! 🎉Huge thanks to our Patreon Subscribers!Get bonus episodes and more for $10 a month at http://podvan.com.au/membersLet’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
"If you hadn't done what you did... would you be alive right now?" "No."That’s how the chat started with the incredible Jon and Nicky, and their story only gets more unbelievable from there. It's a journey that spans decades, through multiple cancer diagnoses, unbelievable heartbreak, and a mental health crisis that brought Nicky to a breaking point where she was ready to end it all.We also talk about the crazy parallels between Jon losing his job and my own story of being let go from radio, and the simple (but controversial) lifestyle change they made that left Nicky’s doctor absolutely stunned, uttering words she had never heard in her entire life: "It's gone."This is my longest ever episode. Hope you've got some time cleared in the schedule! I LOVED this chat - and I know you will too!If you do enjoy it - please share it around with your friends and loved ones. I'd love for this story to hit the number of people it deserves to! 🤗Let’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.

I was super excited to show Julie my new party trick: an AI bot that writes songs about our episodes on the spot. I just needed a subject.Enter Bev, a lovely ceramic artist we met on the beach. Perfect, right? Except... in my excitement, I told the AI her name was Val...Remember, if you'd like to hear the whole episode it came from, just search for Episode 44 of The Podvan Podcast! If you get a chance, fire up the video version of this episode on Spotify or YouTube! The family just got back from Thailand - where Tiana and I weren't allowed to take our ADHD Meds with us... And yet we still managed to pull together a podcast episode from a chaotic week in Phuket! We have soooo many laughs - and we hope you will too! I'd love to hear from you! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
"You didn't know they didn't have a gun. You didn't know what they were capable of."I had psychologist Heather Irvine-Rundell from The READ Clinic back in the van, and I decided to share a story that messed me up for years. It involved my five-year-old son and a hooded figure trying to break in at 1am. Fun times.Heather so brilliantly explains what actually happens in our brain during a moment of terror, why you freeze or why you fight - and why you have absolutely no choice in the matter! We also chat about the unique trauma faced by first responders, the story of the time a police detective told her she'd "lost", and the critical difference between PTSD and Complex PTSD. ***A heads up, this one gets into some heavy topics, so please take care while listening. If you've ever been shaken by an event and wondered why it affected you so much -and for so long, this episode could help you figure it out.Huge thanks to our Patreon Subscribers!Get bonus episodes and more for $10 a month at http://podvan.com.au/membersLet’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
Oh man, if you haven't heard this story - you're in for a treat!! I had the absolute honour of sitting down with Adrian Date, a man who spent nearly 20 years as an intensive care paramedic. I've always wanted to chat with an ambo, and this chat went to places I never expected!Adrian tells me about the time he drove straight into a brawl between two bikie gangs, shares a deeply personal story behind his tattoo, and we talk about the heartbreaking privilege of being with someone in their final moments.I LOVED this chat - and I hope you do too!Huge thanks to our Patreon Subscribers!Get bonus episodes and more for $10 a month at http://podvan.com.au/membersLet’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
Well this episode is a little different! After a reel I made about the NDIS went completely bonkers online, I got quite curious about the whole thing. The universe then delivered Imbi and Darren, old family friends I hadn't seen in 20 years since our kids were in mother's group together. It turns out they're NDIS Plan Managers (a job I didn't even know existed), but the biggest lesson I learned is that their job title is completely wrong! We talk about the real fee they get paid per client, how providers can rort the system, and why they get so much joy from a job that seems like an absolute nightmare of confusion and spreadsheets. If you're in the web of the NDIS yourself, or you're a sponge for learning (like me), you'll love this.Oh, and if you want to get in touch with Imbi and Darren, you can find their fancy new website here: Pure Plan ManagementAnd their instagram here: @pureplanmanagementHuge thanks to our Patreon Subscribers!Get bonus episodes and more for $10 a month at http://podvan.com.au/membersLet’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.
"He lies Rabs, all the gear and no idea."Well, it seems Jules and I have sorted out what's going on my tombstone. So that's one thing ticked off the list. This was one of those classic Podvan chats that went everywhere and nowhere all at once. We talked about the weird and wonderful world of online comment sections, whether our phones are actually reading our minds, and the new TV show that has Julie thinking about wrapping people in tarps (I'm watching my back). If you love a chat that feels like you're eavesdropping on two mates having a laugh, you'll love this.Huge thanks to our Patreon Subscribers!Get bonus episodes and more for $10 a month at http://podvan.com.au/membersLet’s connect! ⬇️Facebook | Instagram | FB Group | Podvan Website | YouTube | TikTokThis is a Podvan Media production.

Ever wondered why you are the way you are? And why you do things the way you do?In another awesome chat with Clinical Psychologist Heather Irvine-Rundle from The Read Clinic, we talk about how childhood experiences, including trauma and adverse events, can shape the adults we become and, most importantly, what can be done about it.Heather takes us through how the brain develops in those crucial first four years, why it’s not what happens to you but the meaning you make of it that matters, and how healing is possible at any stage of life.
