The Ravens have hired Jesse Minter as their new head coach and Chuck predicted this one a few weeks ago in Reckless at Breakfast. We are just three sleeps away from the NFC Championship and we are all about the Seahawks! These two teams are so evenly matched and we turn to our experts Hugh Millen, Gregg Bell and Mike Sando for their insight into this tight matchup.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Mike MacDonald spoke to the media yesterday and gave his thoughts on turnover differential, Puka Nacua and the health of his quarterback. Sam isn’t taking all the reps in practice and we are ok with that. Puka is a force, can the Seahawks defense stop him from getting 200+ yards again? Seattle has a positive turnover differential in every game except against the Rams, is MacDonald concerned about that? :30- MIKE SANDO (The Athletic) What’s going to determine this outcome on Sunday? Ken Walker is the guy now that Charbonnet is out- can he handle the workload? Does Mike give Jarrett Stidham a chance to pull off the win over the Patriots? Does Sando have any belief in the Patriots? What’s going on in Buffalo? :45- We close out the show with one last thing! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
12th man roundtable with HUGH MILLEN and GREGG BELL (Tacoma News Tribune) We start with an injury update- Sam Darnold and Charles Cross, what’s the latest? Everyone is talking about it- does Sam Darnold have a Rams issue? It’s Kenneth Wlker’s time… Special teams has been a boost for the Seahawks with the addition of Rashid Shaheed. :30 We are back with more of the roundtable and it’s all about the Seahawks defense against the Rams offense. Who has the advantage? :45- We wrap up the NFC Playoff Edition of the 12th Man Roundtable with Gregg’s key to the game, Bucky’s prediction and one last thing from Hugh. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Headlines and the latest on Sam Darnold. Sam spoke about his injury to the media yesterday and talked about getting hit. Remember the drama of the last game between the Rams and Seahawks? We go through Chuck’s notes to re-live the highs and lows of that comeback win! :30- We’re bringing out the Cher-Coacherie Board! Terry Pegula and his wife own the Bills and it’s very clear now (after his press conference yesterday), that his wife is the brains of the operation… :45- There’s one player for the Rams who is pretty important to the team and might not be available. Byron Young is trending towards playing, but Sean McVay isn’t sure how healthy he will be and he leads the team in sacks and is 9th in the NFL in pressures. The Rams have sacked Sam Darnold 13 times in the last two games, so how beneficial would it be to the Seahawks offense if he doesn’t play or is limited? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We are THREE sleeps away from NFC Championship! These two teams are so evenly matched that only 1 yard separates them in their two matchups this season. The number 1 offense going against the #1 defense, who has the advantage and how confident are we that Mike MacDonald’s defense can stymie the Rams? The Seahawks offense has been nothing but consistent against the Rams, putting up 414 and 415 yards in each of the two matchups, with turnovers being the issue in that first game and they still had a chance to win it. :30- ICYMI: Matt Haselbeck joins us on Wednesday mornings and we talked to him about Sam Darnold’s injury, something he dealt with as well. Did Darnold favor the injury? Would there be any issues this week? Does Darnold just need to keep letting it rip? Stafford is having his best year yet… :45- The AFC Championship is Sunday and Denver will go up against the Patriots without Bo Nix. Can backup QB Jarrett Stidham do enough for the Broncos to get the win? Maybe, with that defense. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We've grabbed the best of our Wednesday show just for you!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Remember when the Seahawks had two first-round picks and we talked about the idea of them moving up to take Stroud or Young… boy are we glad they didn’t! What do the National guys need to see from Sam Darnold to recognize he is not a liability at quarterback? Yes, at one point he looked like a bust, but he’s put together 2 back-to-back 14-win seasons, what more do you need? He is not a liability for this Seahawks team, he is a strength and he’s playing his role in this team’s success. :30- AL KINISKY (Kraken Audio Network color analyst) The Kraken need a win! From winning nonstop and climbing up the standings to this current skid, what is causing the inconsistencies? :45- We wrap up the humpday show with one last thing! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
MATT HASSELBECK makes his Wednesday visit and we start with that win over the Niners last Saturday. It all started with the kickoff, but what did Matt think about the win from start to finish. Were Darnold & the coaching staff doing anything different last week to protect him and his injury and what should we expect this week? Ok, we have to talk about Matt Stafford and the season he is having- are we worried about facing him again? What does the Seahawks defense need to do to stop him on Sunday? The Broncos are in a tough spot, but Matt doesn’t think the QB will be the issue in the AFC Championship. How is Matt feeling about the Seahawks chances on Sunday? :30- We’re bring out the Cher-Coacherie Board! - No, we don’t think Klint Kubiak’s head coaching potential is a distraction for this team, but will Kubiak land in Buffalo or Baltimore when the season comes to an end? - Eric Bienamy is headed back to Kansas City and Mike McDaniel is headed to the Chargers as OC… now that’s going to be a room of weird. :45- Yes, there’s Stafford, there’s Williams, but the one we really have to worry about slowing down is Puka Nacua. Can the Seahawks defense contain him this time? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Headlines and GREGG BELL (Tacoma News Tribune) - How many carries will Ken Walker get this Sunday? - Who helps Walker out at RB? - What has Mike MacDonald learned in the first two games against the Rams? - The trash talking is ramping up - Is the Sam Danrold turnover narrative just the low-hanging fruit for a lot of people? - What’s the latest on Klint Kubiak’s head coaching opportunities? :30- The impact of the front 4- for this Seahawks defense to achieve maximum success you have to be able to pressure the QB with 4 guys and the Seahawks might be better at doing it more consistently than any other team out there. Can they continue that trend against the Rams on Sunday when it really matters? :45- It’s time to get Reckless at Breakfast! Who is the next Indiana and could there realistically be anyone that can compare? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Yeah, we probably like our quarterback more than other people around the country, but the narrative circulating in the national ranks yesterday was just plain lazy- no, Sam is not a liability for the Seahawks in the playoffs. 14 interceptions and 6 lost fumbles- that’s all anyone focuses on, not the fact that his team is winning and Sam is doing his part to help them get there. He was only 20 years old when he came into the league and he went to a crappy team, so it’s highly probably that he wasn’t getting what he needed to grow as an NFL QB in NY and Carolina. :30- Bad news anti-analytics people: if you want King Felix to get into the Hall of Fame, you’re going to have to support the analytics, because that’s how he will get there. Yesterday was very promising for Felix Hernandez as he saw the biggest jump in vote percentage from year 1 on the ballot to year 2 since 1967 going from 20.6% last year to 46.1% this year. :45- Walker’s workload has been kept fairly low all season long as he split carries with Zach Charbonnet, but now, that’s not an option with Charbs out. How many carries should Walker get on Sunday? A lot more! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We had a jam-packed Tuesday show, from checking in with die-hard Indiana fan Gasman, to trying to sort through all of the NFL controversies with Gene Steratore, we covered a lot!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
RICK NEUHEISEL (CBS Sports) The College Football season came to an end with last night’s National Championship, so how did Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers pull off such an improbably 2-year run to a National title? Miami made a strong run at the title and held their own against heavily favored Indiana, they’re program seems to be in a good place moving forward. :30- The Ol Judge is here! - Indiana’s 2-year rise to the top will be the greatest story ever in CFB. - With 6 picks in two games, Sam Darnold has an interception problem against the Rams. - CJ Stroud will still be on the Houston Texans roster next year. - The return of the Most Interesting Man in the World has already won the Super Bowl ads… :45- We close out the Tuesday show with one last thing! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
- GENE STERATORE (CBS Rules Analyst) - Last night’s National Championship was consistent as far as PI calls, but there were some big missed hits on Fernando Mendoza and Miami got lucky they didn’t get called for targeting. - Ok, what is and what isn’t an interception- yes, we are looking at the Bills/Broncos and Rams/Bears games… did the refs get these two similar plays correct? :30- EVERETT FITZHUGH (Kraken Audio Network PxP) The Kraken have struggled as of late after they seemingly had everything working, so what’s going wrong this time? It’s the first time in 45 games that the kraken have everyone back in the lineup, is that making things even more difficult? Why have Daccord and Grubauer struggled? :45- Cooper Kupp will face his former team for the 3rd time this season; does the former Ram have any more Sean McVay tricks up his sleeve? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Headlines and 12th Man News with GREGG BELL (Tacoma News Tribune) - The Zach Charbonnet injury seemed like it wasn’t going to be bad… but it is. A torn ACL will require surgery and have him out for the next 8+ months. - What’s going on with Sam Darnold’s oblique? - The Rams are next and last game Puka Nacua and the Rams offense went off, so how will MacDonald game plan for their 3rd matchup? :30- The Char-Coacherie board has gotten very full! - Robert Saleh is expected to finalize a deal with the Titans and the Dolphins hired their new Head Coach. - The Bills fired Sean McDermott, but do they have a plan for their next head coach and where will McDermott end up? :45- Has PI gotten too complicated? Last night’s refs were consistent in not calling PI’s and it was good, but far too often there are inconsistencies with PI calls. How can we expect players to know how to play if they don’t know what isn’t and isn’t going to be called PI? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Indiana completes one of the best stories ever in sports and wins the National Championship in Miami last night. It was hard not to root for the Hoosiers who went from the worst team in college football to the best in just 2 years under Curt Cignetti. Mendoza didn’t have one his typical games and Miami gave Indiana everything they had, but it still wasn’t enough as the Hoosier grabbed their first ever National Championship. :30- MIKE GASTINEAU joins the show live from Miami after last night’s National Championship. We get to hear what this amazing ride has been like for die-hard Indiana fans. :45- Zach Charbonnet is now out for the season after a torn ACL, so at this point it’s all Walker. The season was spent splitting carries between the two and protecting Walker’s lingering foot issue, but now it’s time to go. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
