Shane, what have you done?! After looking like he was going to cruise to victory at the Cognizant Classic yesterday, two water balls on the 16th and 17th holes saw Shane Lowry throw away a four-shot lead in Florida and see a 4th PGA Tour win slip through his fingertips. Despite the mess he made, we're here to tell you it's not all bad for Shane and that sometimes, sh*t happens! We also dive into the very interesting equipment of the beneficiary of Lowry's catastrophe, Nico Echavarria, who has bagged another win for a TaylorMade classic and some of our favourite wedges in the game right now. Also, Joe has some insight into Casey Jarvis's back-to-back winning bag, who has now won the Kenyan and South African Opens in consecutive weeks. Jarvis' driver shaft snapped in transit to his home Open last week, and we've got the down low on just how TaylorMade got his gamer back up to running spec in such a short time. Though away this week, Baz also has his top tips ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational next week. Enjoy! Happy Friday, everyone. We've got a jam-packed show for you this week! Joe purchased a new 3-wood (with his own money), we play a new game called 'Golf Club Name Or Not Golf Club Name', and we've dug deeper into the science of Cobra's new 3D printed irons, why they cost so much and why Joe is immediately putting them in his bag. As well as loads of your excellent recent questions and comments, we also welcome the founder of Avoda Golf, Tom Bailey, onto the show. He dives into the tech behind the company's curved face irons, his relationship with Bryson DeChambeau that saw him put Avoda irons into play at the 2024 Masters, as well as his ongoing relationship with Jason Day. Visit fujikuragolf.com to learn more & find your local Fujikura dealer. It's our first Monday three-way for Kick Point: Tour Issue with Joe returning from his well-deserved break to bring the team back to its full quota. This week, we digest everything that happened at The Genesis Invitational, come to terms with the fact that TaylorMade has shifted the sands to become the dominant putter brand on Tour, and debate whether Tiger Woods can, will, and should make his long-awaited return at the Masters this April. And, completely away from the Tour, Joe asks why nobody is getting any better at golf despite all of the technological advancements we've had over the last 20 years. This week, we're live from what Joe has dubbed 'heaven on earth', otherwise known as Golf Pride's Global Innovation Centre in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Filmed during our trip in December, consider this week's episode the grip special you've all been waiting for. We cover all of the behind-the-scenes goodness from Golf Pride's HQ, including its Performance Lab, Fitting Centre, and its retail fitting space. We've also got news on its latest model, the Zero Taper Putter grip, as well as some of your grip-specific Ask The Pods. Apologies that this week's episode is a little shorter than our normal Friday offering, but we had limited time in Golf Pride's Performance Lab. We'll be back on Monday for Tour Issue and back in the studio next Friday for the Golf Gear Show.Chapters:00:00 Intro and why you should care about golf grips04:08 Golf Pride's new Performance Lab06:28 The new Golf Pride Zero Taper putter grip09:51 The grip fitting process15:19 Domed vs flat butt caps20:02 Ask The Pod - what club should I put my training grip on?29:52 Ask The Pod - why aren't grips more considered during the fitting process?Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: kickpointpodcast@futurenet.comSign up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint   Hosted on Acast. Well, who saw that coming? After what looked like a Bryson vs Rahm Sunday shootout was going to take place at LIV Golf Adelaide, Anthony Kim came from five shots back to win for the first time in 16 years and send the world of professional golf into something representing unified glee. We ask whether Kim's win is the biggest and best comeback story since Tiger's in 2019, and also ask whether LIV Golf's TV coverage has the edge over the PGA Tour's TV offering. Elsewhere, we dissect Collin Morikawa's win at Pebble Beach, Jacob Bridgeman's Best Bogey Ever on the final hole, and take a quick look at Charley Hull's win on the LPGA Tour. Baz also looks ahead to the second Signature Event in as many weeks as the PGA Tour returns to Riviera. Massive thanks to Under Armour for sponsoring this week's episode. The new Drive Pro Clone and Drive Pro Clone SL golf shoes are on sale now.Happy Friday, everyone! For those in the UK, we hope you're not buried under too much water and can get out and golf this weekend. Those listening from warmer climates...don't want to hear about it. This week, we've got two new iron families to talk about, Wilson's Staff Model MB, CB and XB, as well as some surprise new irons from the folks at LA Golf. Wilson's 2026 irons have been universally well-received, so can we call them (and a brand with the most Major wins) underrated anymore? And why won't anyone buy them, even when they're £300 cheaper than the competition?Elsewhere, Joe has a warning about strike location on winter mats (who said we're niche?), Titleist has slashed its GT driver prices by the best part of £200 (what does this mean for you?), and we dive into some of your excellent Ask The Pods regarding golf ball choice and clubs for teenagers - enjoy!Chapters: 0:00:00 Intro and catching up0:03:13 New sponsor - Under Armour Drive Pro Clone!0:07:16 Dan's indoor golf adventures in America0:09:52 Joe Winter mat warning on strike location0:15:05 Is this the worst worn grip you've ever seen?0:17:11 Titleist slash 2026 driver prices - what does this mean?0:19:29 LA Golf's surprise new irons, reviewed0:27:13 Wilson Staff Model MB, CB & XB reviews: the most underrated irons of 2026?0:37:09 Ask The Pod - Catching up with your comments0:43:46 Ask The Pod - Advice on sourcing driver heads from America0:49:42 Ask The Pod - What clubs should I get my 14-year-old?0:56:33 Ask The Pod - Should I use the same type of golf ball all year?Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: kickpointpodcast@futurenet.comSign up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint   Hosted on Acast. Happy Monday, folks! We hope you enjoyed this weekend's golf more than Baz did. Having seen his two picks for the WM Phoenix Open head out in the final group on Sunday, both to come up empty-handed, he's a little disappointed. Add to that Daniel Hillier's slow weekend after a lightning-fast start, and it was a case of the nearlies for Baz's debut. We've got our reaction to Matsuyama's chaotic final round, Gotterup's stunning start to the season, and ask whether the in-form American (alongside Patrick Reed) can keep his form going into Major season. We've also got plenty of equipment news to get stuck into from the weekend ,as Hovland finally switched into a new driver, Koepka finally saw sense and switched into a mallet putter (then proceeded to putt even worse), and Morikawa swapped flat sticks for the 1056th time this year. Baz also has his key pick ahead of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am coming up this week. Enjoy! Folks, we got him! It's the interview you've been asking for, and the interview Joe has been itching to do ever since we started this podcast: Ian Fraser. Ian, who you'll likely know from his time on the TXG YouTube channel and more recently the Fraser Golf Institute. Quite simply, he's one of the best minds in the world of golf when it comes to equipment and golf club fitting. We met up with Ian at the PGA Show in Florida a few weeks ago for a wide-ranging chat about equipment and, most eye-openeingly, about the future of fitting for all of us. He also ponders what golf clubs he would play if we gave him one more round of golf, his favourite golf components of all time and whether humans could be taken out of golf club fitting for good. There's much, much more to dive into as he and Joe chew the fat on our favourite subject: equipment. Before all of that, though, we give you our highlights (and lowlights) from our time at the PGA Show. From the new Ping product, the 'hidden' tech in Autoflex shafts, a new prototype Yonex driver and a break dancing robot, we'll give you the insight into our time at golf's biggest circus. We've also got some of your stellar Ask The Pod questions to catch up with and a surprise visit from Solheim Cup star, LPGA winner and all-around good egg, Christina Kim, who helps us answer your latest questions. Happy Monday, hope you enjoyed the weekend's golf! Tour Issue is back after a winter break, and we'll be here every Monday for the foreseeable future with our look back on the weekend's golf from across the professional tours. We've welcome a new face to the show this week, as Barry Plummer joins the Kick Point team as our new Tour Issue correspondent. Having worked on betting content for the last five years and with a keen eye on all the major tours across the world, Baz will be bringing his best tips ahead of next week's action. Don't worry, Joe is going nowhere, though, and he'll be popping up on the occasional Tour Issue episodes as well as every Friday gear show episode as normal. This week, we get our teeth stuck into Justin Rose's wire-to-wire win in San Diego. With a few equipment changes since the Ryder Cup already paying dividends and one of the best ball striking displays we've seen in recent memory, can Justin cap off this run of form with a Major win this year? Elsewhere, Calum Hill suffered a golfer's worst nightmare in his playoff loss to Freddie Schott in Bahrain, and Nelly Korda starts 2026 with a win and a brand new driver in freezing Orlando conditions. All of that, plus Baz's picks for next week's events in Phoenix and Qatar. Enjoy! Massive thanks to Titleist and the new Vokey Design SM11 wedge for sponsoring this week's episode!Happy Friday, folks! We're still in the thick of launch season, and this week our focus turns to Cobra. With its new Optm woods and Tec MD mini driver now out in the world, can the brand that had a less-than-sparkling 2025 find some life again with its 2026 range of clubs? Elsewhere, Joe's gone big early in his declarations this year with his iron testing, but which brand has created what he has dubbed 'the best iron of 2026'?It's not all about new launches, however, as we've also got a stack of your brilliant questions to get through. This week, we've got tips on picking a putter if you're a higher handicapper (spoiler: mallets), driver adapter tips and tricks and debate why and when Ludvig Aberg might finally switch out of his Anser-style putter. It's been a busy week as KPHQ has been based out in Orlando at the PGA Show. To that effect, I'm writing this podcast description at 2:26 am in bed, so it's going to be a short one. This week, Joe reviews the new Takomo irons. With private equity now on board and the 'new kid on the block' bounce now over, is the second generation of Takomo irons a step forward or backwards? We also review the Ping G440 Max K driver, showcase the new retro clubs we've purchased online, and answer some of your always brilliant Ask The Pods questions, this week discussing the actual difference between graphite and steel irons' shafts. We have a very special episode of Tour Issue for you this week, as Joe sits down with Marco Penge to discuss everything behind his recent high-profile switch to PXG. We've got details on the new clubs he'll be playing in 2026 and all the behind the scenes detials on what goes on during the testing and fitting process of a top 30 player in the world. Marco also offers us some insight into how the process works and which of his old equipment might stay in the bag as he slowly beds in with PXG. Massive thanks to Marco for taking some time out of his hectic schedule to chat with us and offer such great insights, as well as to the folks at PXG and Marco's management for putting us in touch. We're practising gratitude this week at KPHQ, so thank you for downloading this week's episode amidst the glut of golf content that exists in the world. With Tour golf back and equipment season in full swing, it feels like golf has woken up again after a quiet few weeks over Christmas and New Year. With that in mind (and the fact we only filmed this episode on Wednesday), we thought a mini Tour Issue would be in order. We've got our reactions to Marco Penge's switch from Mizuno to PXG, the news that Rory McIlroy is no longer a blade man, the Ping prototype mini driver and Erling Haaland's bizarre golf vlog he put on his YouTube channel. After that, it's the next big release of the year: Callaway Quantum. Joe has hit all four of the new models and is very impressed with what he's seen so far. We put his favourite model of the Quantum range up against his favourite driver of the year (so far), Qi4D core, to see how the data stacks up. We've also got some of your brilliant Ask The Pods this week, including one enraged listener who is fed up with golf equipment marketing and another listener seeking some mini driver advice. Enjoy! It's all go here at KPHQ to start 2026, and our first big driver release of the season is upon us. While we feel like we've already given plenty of airtime to TaylorMade's Qi4D since we first saw it in November, we can now talk about it without the shackles of woke embargoes limiting Joe from going into full flow. And that's exactly what he does this week with his full verdict on the full family of drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, Qi Max irons and the new technologies that aim to make Qi35 a distant 12-month memory. But we're not just focusing on this major release this week. We've got a huge backlog of Ask The Pods to work through, and the three this week cover wedge issues for higher handicap golfers, the actual reason why Bryson DeChambeau uses such unique equipment and why old driver models on Tour (like Aaron Rai's M6) have yet to be caught out for creeping. Happy New Year! We hope you've all had a restful break and are as ready for 2026 as we are here at KPHQ (Kick Point Headquarters). Before we get into launch season proper, we've got one more special episode to bring you from our week in Pinehurst back in December. You've already seen his What's In The Bag, but we liked Peter Finch so much we asked him to come back on the pod for a 'normal' episode of Kick Point to answer some of your burning equipment queries. So, get the jingle ready, it's an Ask The Pod special! We've got questions about the best irons for high-speed, high-handicappers and a debate on the best way (if there is one) to retrofit second-hand clubs. We'll be back next week with the first major equipment launch of the season and, for you Tour Issue fans out there, our Monday episodes will be back on Monday, January 12th. Happy Friday, everyone! We hope you had a great Christmas and aren't feeling as hungover as Dan or as fat as Joe does today. To cure any Boxing Day/post-Christmas fatigue, we've got some fun for you this week in the shape of the 2nd Annual Pointy Awards! For those who weren't with us this time last year, this is our annual light-hearted look at the year in equipment, loosely based around a cheap award ceremony. We've got plenty of awards to give out, including: the best golf club of the year, the best dressed of the year, the most innovative release of 2025 and the best WITB of the year. Well, we think the title pretty much explains this week's episode! After we saw Rolling Stone magazine's Top 250 Albums Of The 21st Century, we thought it was time Kick Point delivered its own version. Thankfully, despite the relative length of this week's episode, we trimmed our list down to 25 rather than 250. Think TaylorMade M2 (2016), TaylorMade P790, Ping G2, Nike VR Pro Blades, Odyssey 2-ball, Vokey SM6 wedge, you get the idea. We've exhaustively analysed every golf club release of this century to offer you this definitive list of the very best. Prepare to agree (and most likely disagree) over the next 90 minutes or so. We hope you enjoy this week's episode, and all it leaves us to do is wish you a Merry Christmas (yes, it is next week). We're going nowhere over the break, though, and will be back on Boxing Day for the 2nd Annual Pointy Awards and on January 2nd for a very special guest episode. A very special episode for you this week, filmed outside The Cottage at Pinehurst No. 8! Yes, we're back from our very special week in golf heaven, and we've got loads to catch up on. From playing Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 10 to snooping around inside Golf Pride's new Performance Lab and Global Innovation Center, we've been busy boys. We'll update you on our time in North Carolina, including our time in the Golf Hall Of Fame and the USGA testing facilities, too. After the self-indulgence, there's plenty of equipment chat to get stuck into. With the 2026 releases just around the corner (most of which we've already seen), what clubs from 2025 and before and the ones to beat? We've also got some of your excellent correspondence, including one listener who has managed to caramalise his golf clubs...We then welcome Peter Finch onto the podcast for a What's In The Bag looking ahead to his 2026 season. Though now a Titleist staffer, Pete has a wealth of club knowledge, having been a club reviewer for much of his YouTube career and has had the privilege of a VIP fitting at TPI. Massive thanks to Golf Pride, the Pinehurst Resort and GMS for hosting us last week. We'll have a special pod coming from inside Golf Pride's Global Innovation Center in the New Year. What a weekend of golf that was! With high profile tournaments in Australia, South Africa and The Bahamas, we've got loads to talk about. While not a winner this week, Scottie Scheffler took his appearance at the Hero World Challenge to debut his new TaylorMade Qi4D driver. We've spotted some unqiue features already on what looks to be a model with plenty of Tour-only offerings built in. We also dive into tournament winner Hideki Matsuyama's winning bag as the Japanese star romped home to victory after a stunning final day display. Also this week, Callaway's Quantum and Cobra's OPTM drivers hit the conforming list - we've got our first impressions of the new offerings. Rasmus Neergaard-Petesen won in Australia and Kristoffer Reitan won in South Africa, marking a great win for Scandinavian golf and Ping as we delve into their bags Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: kickpointpodcast@futurenet.comSign up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint   Hosted on Acast.
