Description
Queer and trans Canadians, Britt and Mr. Teri, host conversations about spirituality, meaning, and connection for people who don’t feel at home in traditional faith spaces. Drawing from different faiths, lived experiences, emotions, and ways of knowing — including mysticism, psychology, philosophy, and science — they explore what spirituality can look like when you’ve felt excluded or lost. This space invites people to reflect inward, question freely, and shape a personal, expansive spiritual life rooted in honesty and self-understanding... without giving away your power.

Plato’s Cave is one of the most famous thought experiments in philosophy, but it hits very differently when you start noticing it in your own life.In this episode we talk about Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and why it still feels incredibly relevant today. The idea is simple. A group of prisoners have spent their entire lives chained inside a cave, watching shadows projected onto a wall. Because that is all they have ever seen, they believe the shadows are reality. But what happens when someone turns around and sees the fire behind them? And what happens when they leave the cave entirely? We explore how Plato’s Cave connects to belief systems, cultural narratives, and the assumptions we carry without realizing it. Those moments when something shifts and you suddenly see things differently than you did before. This conversation looks at philosophy, consciousness, and the human tendency to mistake the story we were given for the truth itself. If you have ever had a moment where your perspective suddenly changed and you wondered how you didn’t see it before, this episode will probably feel familiar.Join the conversation:Instagram: @maplemyrrhpodcastFacebook Group: facebook.com/groups/maplemyrrhpodcastPatreon: patreon.com/MaplemyrrhpodcastEmail: maplemyrrhpodcast@gmail.com
Lucid dreaming is the strange and powerful state where you realize you’re dreaming while still inside the dream. But what actually happens in the brain when that shift occurs? In this conversation, we explore the neuroscience of REM sleep, the differences between lucid and non-lucid dreams, and the experiments that confirmed lucid dreaming in laboratory settings. We also share personal experiences, common sleep paralysis encounters, and practical training methods that focus on recognition rather than control. From Tesla’s visualizations to Dali’s surreal imagery, we look at how dream states have influenced innovation and creative insight. We close by considering the philosophical edges of the topic: the fluid boundary between waking and sleeping, Plato’s Cave, and the possibility that consciousness is more flexible than we assume.Join the conversation:Instagram: @maplemyrrhpodcastFacebook Group: facebook.com/groups/maplemyrrhpodcastPatreon: patreon.com/MaplemyrrhpodcastEmail: maplemyrrhpodcast@gmail.com#LucidDreaming #Consciousness #DreamScience #REMsleep #Neuroscience #DreamJournal #RealityChecks #SleepParalysis #CreativeMind #DreamState #MindExploration #BrainAfterDark #PhilosophyOfMind #CollectiveUnconscious #CreativeInsight #HigherConsciousness #SleepAwareness #PlatosCave #MapleAndMyrrh #PodcastLife
In this episode of Maple and Myrrh, hosts Britt and Mr. Teri delve into the intriguing world of the Gateway Tapes, a series of audio recordings developed by Robert Monroe at the Monroe Institute. The conversation begins with Britt sharing her personal experiences with the tapes, which she discovered on Reddit, and how they opened her mind to altered states of consciousness. They discuss Monroe's background as an engineer and media executive, emphasizing that his work was rooted in scientific inquiry rather than spirituality. They explore how Monroe's experiments with sound led to the development of techniques that help individuals access altered states of awareness, ultimately forming the basis of the Monroe Institute's teachings. As the discussion progresses, Britt explains the concept of Hemi-Sync, a sound technology designed to synchronize brainwave activity, facilitating deeper meditative states. They outline the various focus levels associated with the Gateway Tapes, such as Focus 10, where the mind is awake while the body is asleep, and Focus 15, which transcends the perception of time. They highlight the importance of maintaining awareness during these experiences, contrasting it with common meditation practices that may lead to zoning out. Rather than treating these states as mystical destinations, Britt and Mr. Teri frame them as conditions—learnable, repeatable, and grounded in curiosity rather than belief. The episode closes with an invitation to keep exploring what consciousness might be capable of, without drugs, dogma, or the pressure to explain everything all at once.

What if the idea that “we’re all connected” isn’t about spiritual "oneness"... but about responsibility? In this episode, we unpack the viral “Egg Theory” and trace where its core intuition shows up in queer theology, trauma-informed spirituality, and Indigenous relational worldviews. We explore why the idea that “everyone is you” feels powerful, where it falls short, and how concepts like all my relations offer a more grounded and accountable way to think about connection. This conversation is about ethics, not aesthetics. About relationship without erasure. About connection that doesn’t bypass harm or justice. And about how to live relationally, without appropriating Indigenous teachings, by asking better questions about power, care, and responsibility in our everyday choices.

Jon grew up believing he was safe in the house of God, until he discovered that belonging in his church came with conditions. In this episode, Jon shares the story of how he was pushed out of the evangelical world he once called home simply because he dared to explore and personalize his faith. For asking questions. For challenging contradictions. For believing that a place meant to connect people with God should not be the same place that tears families apart. His journey took him somewhere he never expected: to the realization that many of the things he was taught were “Christian truths” - like heaven, hell, the rapture, even the Holy Trinity - aren’t actually in the Bible the way he was told. And neither is the idea that queer people are sinners.Jon’s faith didn’t die when he left the church. It widened. And it led him to one of the biggest decisions of his life: he and his wife refused to get married until same-sex couples could. Because he couldn’t build a life on a foundation he knew wasn’t equal. This conversation is about unlearning fear, reclaiming spiritual autonomy, and discovering that God has nothing to do with exclusion and everything to do with belonging.
