Guest Bio: Clementine Sikiri was resettled in the United States with her family after spending years in Kiziba refugee camp in Rwanda, fleeing deadly conflict in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Just as her life was beginning to flourish, Clementine was in a tragic car accident that left her with severe injuries. Through faith, resilience, and the support of her community, she made a miraculous recovery and went on to earn a master’s degree in clinical social work. Today, she serves as a mental health clinician in a public middle school, advocates passionately for refugees, and finds joy in her close-knit community.  Show Summary: What was a moment in your life where you felt extreme hopelessness? How did God restore your hope? Clementine Sikiri has experienced many hopeless moments in her life where she had to depend on God to make the impossible, possible. Join hosts Elisa Morgan and Vivian Mabuni as they learn how Clementine’s hope was restored as a refugee coming to the United States and then as a severe car accident survivor. You don’t want to miss this beautiful and encouraging God Hears Her conversation!  Notes and Quotes:  “The first years of my life, war was all I knew. So, I thought the whole world was that way.” —Clementine Sikiri  “One of the biggest misconceptions is that refugees choose to be refugees. It’s life or death. We don’t choose that.” —Clementine Sikiri  “In a way, [the accident] confirmed my purpose. I am supposed to be here and God wants me here.” —Clementine Sikiri  “The more I grew up to understand the Lord, the more I grew up to understand that He loved me from the beginning.” —Clementine Sikiri  “People saw His goodness in my life and that’s all I want.” —Clementine Sikiri  “The more I learn about myself, the more I learn about Him, and the more I learn about Him, the more I learn about myself.” —Clementine Sikiri  Verses:  Matthew 25:40-45 Romans 8:28  Related Episodes:  GHH Ep 68 – Hope That Overcomes with Joyce Dinkins: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/hope-that-overcomes/ GHH Ep 101 – Life After Tragedies with Julia Pinkster: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/life-after-tragedies/  Links:  God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBMEpisode 216 Bible Study: https://xvetrm.files.cmp.optimizely.com/download/assets/GHH+Podcast_EP216_Final+Output.pdf/fe8694ce011911f1a4fbee48b8e1933b

Steph has her master’s in youth, family, and culture from Fuller Theological Seminary and has a background in youth and children’s ministry. Steph Thurling discovered the power of healthy boundaries through a difficult postpartum season and the ever-changing phases of motherhood. In this God Hears Her conversation, Elisa Morgan sits down with Steph to explore what it looks like to set wise, grace-filled boundaries, raise children who love Jesus, and keep the long view in mind through every season of parenting.  Notes and Quotes:  “You learn that you have to say no to things and that some things might be good for another family, but they might not be good for you.” —Steph Thurling  “I learned that He will see me through it and that nothing is permanent. There are seasons for everything. There are seasons that will be easy and there will be seasons that will be hard, but no matter what, He is walking through it with us and will hold our hand and will light our path. We can rely on Him for provision.” —Steph Thurling  “There is good community out there. God puts people in your life to get you through.” —Steph Thurling  “My ultimate goal in my parenting is that my kids will know, love, follow, and share Jesus. That’s the best thing we could want for our kids. So, it’s really important that while we focus on the good things for our kids, we keep the best thing in mind.” —Steph Thurling  “He is writing their story and I’m not. We have to trust Him with that even if it might look hard for a while.” —Steph Thurling Verses:   Related Episodes:  GHH Ep 89 – Parenting in a Toxic Culture with Dr. Meg Meeker: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/parenting-in-a-toxic-culture/ GHH Ep 133 – Helping Your Children Know Jesus with Sara Cowan Johnson: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/helping-your-children-know-jesus/ GHH Ep 182 – Raising Teens with Amy Betters-Midtvedt: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/raising-teens/  Links:  The Christian Parenting Website: https://www.christianparenting.org/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM Episode 215 Bible Study PDF: https://xvetrm.files.cmp.optimizely.com/download/assets/GHH+Podcast_EP215_Proof+2.pdf/e108db7cf60c11f08ab3028702ece562

God is unshakable. He is our solid foundation. Even when the world wipes us out, when relationships wipe us out, God is our firm foundation.” —Trisha Davis  “We were so concerned with building the church, we forgot to build into each other and build into who we were.” —Justin Davis  “There is a journey that we have to allow people to go on. On that journey, eventually you see your prism of pain as how God shows up so much brighter—in different arrays of color that we couldn’t see with our rose-colored glasses.” —Trisha Davis  Verses:  Hebrews 12:5-11  Related Episodes:  GHH Ep 40 – Out of the Dust: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/out-of-the-dust/ GHH Ep 145 – Sitting on the Sidelines with Bethany Toney: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/sitting-on-the-sidelines/ GHH Ep 168 – Walking Through Infidelity with Jami Nato: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/walking-through-infidelity/  Links:  The Davis’s Website: https://justinandtrisha.com/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM

It’s 90 miles an hour and then you slam into a brick wall and the transmission falls out. It is a very sudden stop.” —Mary Marantz  “Wisdom finally gets a chance to take root because you’re just too tired to have these tightly gripped fists anymore.” —Mary Marantz  “I’ve had to learn that lesson over and over again of just how quickly I wilt and wither when I’m not abiding, when I’m not tethered to the vine, when I am just a branch trying to grow fruit on my own. How quickly I struggle in the drought, how quickly I stop bearing fruit when I’m away from the water.” —Mary Marantz  Verses:  Jeremiah 17:8  John 15:1-17  Related Episodes:  GHH Ep 2 – The Beauty of Broken with Elisa Morgan: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/beauty-of-broken/ GHH Ep 69 – Finding Inner Peace with Kay Wills Wyma: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/finding-inner-peace/ GHH Ep 169 – Learning to Surrender with Tara Sun: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/learning-to-surrender/ Links:  Mary Marantz’s Website: https://marymarantz.com/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBMEpisode 213 Bible Study PDF: https://xvetrm.files.cmp.optimizely.com/download/assets/GHH+Podcast_EP213_Final+Output+%281%29.pdf/e049bec2f60c11f09bfa4e7ee23f2e1e
Show Summary: Which fruit of the Spirit do you struggle with? As we work to be more Christlike, we often struggle with different Spirit-produced characteristics in different seasons of life. In this special God Hears Her conversation hosted by Eryn Eddy Adkins, Elisa Morgan invites us to consider the fruit of the Spirit and how we can grow in these qualities of character to reflect Jesus in everything we do.    Notes and Quotes:  “Most of us, no matter what our age, we want to grow a life that matters. He wants us to feel the brokenness because it allows us to long for the real thing, and that’s Him.” —Adrienne Camp  “If you think about it, a lament is actually a cry of faith because it’s a call of asking God to show His character strong. Why are you delaying?” It’s a declaration of faith for God and His character.” —Adrienne Camp  “When we honestly and genuinely engage God with what we’re really feeling, God meets us. As a trained Bible teacher with Precepts Ministries and Community Bible Study and a mentor for Florish Writers and Hope Writers, Mariel currently has a Bible study contract with Our Daily Bread Publishers. Married for over 25 years to her college sweetheart, and a retired homeschool mom of two grown sons, Mariel enjoys salsa from her garden as she pursues the Gardener who tends her soul.   Show Summary: What has been your experience in your personal Bible study time? Do you often follow a study or just open your Bible? Soon after she gave her life to Christ, Mariel Davenport found herself focusing on Bible studies more than the actual Word of God. As she turned her attention back to Scripture and spent time in her salsa garden, she developed a method of Bible study called the TEND method, based on her gardening habits. Join hosts Elisa Morgan and Vivian Mabuni as they learn Mariel’s testimony and the TEND method during this insightful God Hears Her conversation.   Notes and Quotes:  “I was tending to my salsa garden that summer, and I really felt like the Lord was reminding me that is how He tends to me. It's just little by little by little. It can just be slow and methodical and intentional.” —Mariel Davenport  “If we can lean in and look at just a few verses at a time and ask ‘what is this teaching about God?’ it is amazing how He [the Holy Spirit] will illuminate that to us.” —Mariel Davenport  “We serve a triune God. He Himself is community, and He created us for community.” —Mariel Davenport  “God is pursuing the heart of every single one of us if we would just come to Him. Even in my skepticism, anger, and pride, God was still willing to reveal Himself to me when I got into His Word. He saw my need and met me right there.” —Mariel Davenport  “I really think that the more we say 'I don’t know what I’m doing,’ the more He’ll say, ‘That’s exactly where you need to be.’ Because it is in our weakness that His power is made perfect.” —Mariel Davenport  “Our need of Jesus is really the whole point.” —Mariel Davenport  “Be careful that you don’t believe the lies that you can’t understand Scripture. No matter who you are, if the Holy Spirit lives in you then you can, by the power and grace of God, understand His Word. Don’t let culture and the distractions tell you otherwise, because God is faithful to His Word and He will accomplish what He set out to do with it.” —Mariel Davenport  Verses:  Ephesians 4   Mark 13 – Jesus talking about His second coming; being on guard and awake. Deuteronomy 29:29  Related Episodes: GHH Ep 146 – Reading Truth with Amanda Williams: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/reading-truth/  Links:  Mariel Davenport’s Website: https://marieldavenport.com/ Ruth: Finding Grace in the Unexpected: https://a.co/d/64UKS7T God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM God Hears Her Survey: http://godhearsher.org/survey
Show Summary: What do you think of when you hear someone talking about their calling or their purpose? We tend to think of calling as our specific job or the talents the Lord has blessed us with, but hosts Elisa Morgan, Eryn Eddy Adkins, and Vivian Mabuni challenge this thinking by diving into Scripture. What if the Lord has an everyday calling and purpose for each of us? Explore what this means from Mark 1:16-20 during this God Hears Her conversation.   Notes and Quotes:  “Every call has two steps. There’s a call to something and there’s a call from something. First, we’re called to God and to a relationship.” —Elisa Morgan  “He came to me with a question, and it was ‘are you tired?’ And I was very tired. He knew I needed to be asked a question, not told what to do. He knew that He needed to show curiosity to me for me to open up.” —Eryn Eddy Adkins  “The only reason I think they [the disciples] could have ever responded to a role was because they were called to a relationship. It is the overwhelming presence and power of presence that called them.” —Elisa Morgan  "When you’re all in, then there’s this relationship, this intimacy with God that can’t be manufactured or bought or mustered up.” —Vivian Mabuni  “The core pieces of ‘a call’ is a call to a relationship with an undeniably powerful God who wants what is good for us and a call for a role where He uniquely places us in opportunities, vocations where we can use our gifts for His good. And then to accomplish those things, we need to leave some things behind. There’s a call from certain things.” —Elisa Morgan  Verses:  Matthew 11:28 (the message version)  Mark 1:16-20  Related Episodes: GHH Ep 138 - God’s Purpose with Dr. Lynn Cohick: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/gods-purpose/  Links:  God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM God Hears Her Survey:  http://godhearsher.org/survey

She is passionate about family, God's Word, and seeing women take their place in the Kingdom. She's an author, a church leader, and a coach. Her books include You Are the Girl for the Job, Breaking Free from Body Shame, and her newest release, Tired of Being Tired. Jess is the founder of Go + Tell Gals and helped start She Reads Truth. Jess Connolly wants to recharge you and share how to shake off the shame! Join hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy Adkins as they learn how to break free from shame during this God Hears Her conversation.  Notes and Quotes:  “I had this really strong understanding early on that the Gospel is the best thing about me. That people that had tidier lives still needed God, that the messy parts of my life did not disqualify me from His love, from ministry, from calling, from any of those things.” —Jess Connolly  “I’m thankful for the victory and the vision that pain afforded me.” —Jess Connolly  “If John says, ‘if the Son has set you free, you are free indeed,’ how much of that do I get to experience here on earth? How much of that do I get to experience as it pertains to my body?” —Jess Connolly  “If You created our bodies as good, do we spend the rest of our lives trying to make them good, or can we spend the rest of our lives agreeing that they’re good? If so, what would that look like? What would it look like to stop trying to make my body good and instead just come into alignment with the truth that it already is? That’s what breaking body shame is about for me.” —Jess Connolly  “For many of us, we don’t know where we end and where He begins. We don’t know what we’re responsible for and what He’s responsible for. We’ve somehow bought this lie that we graduate from needing Him—but I don’t want to get over that. I still want to be a girl that acknowledges that I need God.” —Jess Connolly   Verses:  2 Corinthians 12:9  John 20:11-18 – Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene  Luke 8:2 – Jesus healing Mary Magdalene   Related Episodes: GHH Ep 146 – Reading Truth with Amanda Williams: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/reading-truth/  Links:  Jess Connolly’s Website: https://www.jessconnolly.com/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM Share Your Story:  https://godhearsher.org/share-your-story/

But you keep your foot in the door for the next woman behind you.” —Elisa Morgan  “We’ve had a lot of identity conversations on this show, which have just been an absolute blessing for me because it reminds me to recenter myself with who’s defining me, and that’s God. It's not my job, it's not my body, it's not my children, it’s not my status of being single or married.” —Mary Jo Clark  “Faith builds faith. When I’m listening to these stories of faith, it has built mine.” —Eryn Eddy Adkins  “God knows. He sees. He hears. We say it all the time in the podcast, but it’s true! We belong to Him. None of our thumbprints are the same. None of our stories are the same. What an honor to be able to have that moment to hear these stories and to recognize God at work. God is a 360-degree God. He shows Himself faithful. It [these stories] helps me to build a framework for when life gets challenging.” —Vivian Mabuni  “The Lord is not going to abandon me. The Lord has put me here—specifically here—for a reason. I will grow and I will change and I will heal, and it will be a constant journey, but knowing that the Lord is still hearing me—He’s always here, and He’s always leading us.” —Jade Gustman  “My spiritual growth has been impacted by the permission I have been given through these women’s stories.” —Mary Jo Clark  “Even if I still feel unqualified at the end, God brought me through something that was an opportunity to grow and to build muscles. Just because you’re not qualified doesn’t mean that God isn’t calling you.” —Mary Jo Clark   Verses:   Psalmists  Moses leading God’s people   Related Episodes: GHH Ep 94 – Q&A with Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy Adkins: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/qa/ GHH Ep 100 – Looking Back to Move Forward: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/looking-back-to-move-forward-our-100th-episode/  Links:  God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191  Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM Share Your Story:  https://godhearsher.org/share-your-story/ God Hears Her email sign-up: https://go.odb.org/ghh-sign-upsfmc191

after listening to Philip Yancey on your podcast which I thoroughly enjoyed, I went back to reading a daily bread publication God of surprise and the paragraph I continued on was on page 77. paragraph starts talking about Philip Yancey and his book' Where is God when it hurts'. I figured that's a one in a million chance ever happening 😀. God was involved.
