There’s some important admin up top, but once that’s all out of the way, Musa and Ryan turn their attention to the Premier League title race once more after what felt like a very important few days. They begin with Arsenal’s 4-1 win at Spurs in the North London derby (03:53), which saw them maintain a five point lead at the top of the Premier League. There’s chat about braces for Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres and the response of Mikel Arteta’s side, following the draw at Wolves in midweek. There’s a bit of chat about Spurs’ position in the table and whether they can realistically go down (24:29), before heading to Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday (30:30), plus some thoughts about the title race in general. After a quick round-up of the rest of the Premier League, they wrap up results elsewhere (49:07), including La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue and more!To read Musa’s GQ Piece about the Vinícius Júnior incident last week, head here, and our Patreon episode about it from last week is here. For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. The Derby d’Italia this weekend felt crucial in the race for this year’s Scudetto. Musa and Ryan chat about Inter leaving it late to beat Juventus (05:03), who were down to ten for the entire second half at San Siro, after a very controversial second yellow for Pierre Kalulu. It took a brilliant winner from Piotr Zieliński to win the game and send Inter eight points clear of the top, thanks to Napoli’s draw with Roma. In the middle of all that, there’s a big detour about manager’s first touches and player showboating (17:39), before chatting about Igor Tudor becoming the Tottenham Hotspur men’s interim head coach (34:53). Finally, there’s a round-up (45:33) featuring La Liga, Bundesliga, FA Cup, a rare case of a spiritually onside goal actually counting and Mo Salah doing his bit for content. As mentioned, Scouted have launched the first edition of their new digital magazine and are giving Stadio listeners a month’s full access to their site (including the new issue) for just £2! Apologies for the late show today, but we’re finally here to chat all about another big weekend in the Premier League title race, which saw Manchester City come from behind to win away at Liverpool, for only the second time under Pep Guardiola. After shout outs for the WSL, PSG v Marseille and a few other results (04:21), Musa and Ryan head to Anfield (11:23), which saw another unbelievable free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai give Liverpool the lead, a great comeback and the world being cruelly robbed of one of the silliest goals of the modern era. That meant the gap was the same at the top as before the weekend, following Arsenal’s impressive 3-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday (30:52). Elsewhere, Aston Villa dropped more points, Manchester United may never lose again, Crystal Palace ended their winless streak and Cole Palmer scored another first half hat-trick.In Germany, Bayern and Dortmund teased a title race (48:13) and St. Pauli got a much needed win. Finally, there’s a round-up of La Liga and a bit of chat about Ademola Lookman’s move to Atlético Madrid (53:12).A reminder: Southbank Centre live show! March 1st! With special guest Nish Kumar! Musa and Ryan begin this week with a huge game in the WSL, where Manchester City opened up an 11-point gap at the top after their 5-1 win over Chelsea. Arsenal, meanwhile, beat Corinthians in extra-time, to become the winners of the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.Then, it’s onto the Premier League, where there was a true game of two halves that saw Spurs and Manchester City play out a 2-2 draw (10:24) and an incredible Dominic Solanke goal, while Aston Villa lost at home to Brentford, who played out the entirety of the second half down to ten.Arsenal extended their lead at the top, thanks to a very impressive 4-0 win away at Leeds (39:24), Manchester United left it late to keep the good times rolling (46:22) and there’s also a round-up of the rest of the Premier League, plus the Bundesliga, La Liga and much more!London crew, don't forget to get those tickets for the next Southbank Centre show, with special guest Nish Kumar, here. For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. It was the Stadio derby this weekend, with Manchester United beating Arsenal in the league at the Emirates for the first time since 2017.Musa and Ryan chat about a game that continued the good vibes around Michael Carrick's appointment, following up last week’s Manchester derby victory, thanks to two unbelievable goals from Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha (03:27). They also look at it from the Arsenal perspective, their attacking issues and the differences between the recent league and cup performances. It meant Aston Villa and Manchester City closed the gap to their wins, so there’s chat about those games as well as the rest of the results (32:11), including a late winner for Bournemouth over Liverpool, another West Ham win and more as the Premier League grind continues. Then it’s off to Europe (53:32), where Bayern lost for the first time in the Bundesliga this season thanks to a 1-2 defeat to Augsburg, Inter opened up a gap in Serie A, PSG went top of Ligue 1 and wins for Barcelona, Real Madrid and much more!London listeners, don't forget to get tickets for our next show at the Southbank Centre on March 1st, with special guest Nish Kumar. Senegal are winners of the AFCON for the second time! Musa and Ryan begin with one of the most dramatic and astonishing international finals of all-time, which saw Senegal beat hosts Morocco in extra-time in a game that saw incredible drama and an amazing winning goal (03:24).They then move on to Manchester United’s 2-0 win over City in Saturday’s derby (27:29), as well as Michael Carrick’s appointment as head coach until the end of the season. There's discussion about the reaction to the appointment, how free United looked against City, whether this is a sign of things to come or if this is another example of something fans have seen before.Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have had a horrid week or so (56:35). There's chat about Oliver Glasner announcing his departure, his post match interview that caused tension following the defeat to Sunderland, Marc Guéhi’s move to Manchester City and what Palace do now. There’s also round-up of the rest of the Premier League, whistles at the Bernabéu and much more!London listeners, don't forget to get tickets for our next show at the Southbank Centre on March 1st, with special guest Nish Kumar. Some clichés are clichés for a reason and, this weekend, the magic of the FA cup truly lived up to it. But before that, Musa and Ryan begin episode 600 (!!!) with a round-up of the Bundesliga’s return (02:59), the AFCON quarter-finals (06:23), Inter and Napoli’s 2-2 draw (10:53), plus Barcelona’s win over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España.Then, it’s onto the FA Cup third round, starting with Macclesfield’s incredible win to knock holders Crystal Palace out (15:35), plus some other key results, Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton and some flowers for Danny Welbeck (26:38). AFCON kicked off in Rabat, as Morocco opened with a 2-0 over Comoros in a game that featured an incredible overhead from Ayoub El Kaabi.Musa and Ryan begin there, before chatting about Kylian Mbappé, who equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid record for goals in a calendar year (05:28), as well as how impressive his time at the Bernabéu has been, despite getting off to a tricky start. Next up, it’s Leeds’ turn to get the props (18:32), after another great result, this time to Crystal Palace, that sees a great run from Daniel Farke’s side continue. There’s chat about the rest of the Premier League, including Aston Villa’s win over Manchester United (24:07), wins for the top two, Liverpool’s win at Spurs (33:37) and much more! For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. Then it’s onto the trip from this weekend (17:11), where they visited Venezia for their win over Monza and then San Siro for Milan’s draw against Sassuolo. It was the first time that Musa and Ryan had visited both the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo and San Siro, so they chat about the uniqueness of both, the contrasting surroundings and how overwhelming it can be to visit an iconic stadium for the first time. For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. There’s some important admin up top about the upcoming Christmas episodes, a Patreon offer and news on our next show at the Southbank Centre!Musa and Ryan then chat about Mo Salah’s mixed zone comments that followed Liverpool’s 3-3 draw away at Leeds which look like starting the process of him potentially leaving the club (09:07) and is the latest situation in an already very difficult season. The Salah situation mean that there isn’t as much chat about the game itself, but there is also praise for Leeds (26:22), as well as Aston Villa’s late win over Arsenal at Villa Park and a quick round-up of some other Premier League games. There’s also time to shout out some other results from the weekend (36:07), including Hearts' win at Celtic, the MLS Cup, Arab Cup, the WSL, Serie A and La Liga, before some thoughts on the World Cup draw (42:14), which took place on Friday.Tickets for our second live show at the Southbank Centre in London are on sale here. For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. There’s a lot to get through today, but Musa and Ryan begin with shouting out Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores win before moving on to the Premier League. They discuss the scrappy 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal (06:52), which probably worked out as a good point for both sides in the end, plus wins for Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and all the rest of the Premier League games (18:50). After a men’s international break that delivered some wonderfully joyful moments, the Eberechi Eze hat-trick for Arsenal, in his first North London derby, was up there. Musa and Ryan chat about Eze’s historic feat, during his childhood club’s 4-1 win over Spurs at the Emirates Stadium, which sent the Gunners six points clear. They then move on to the rest of the Premier League (22:54), including Chelsea moving up to second, Newcastle’s win over Manchester City and—while there’s a lot of chat about the Liverpool side of it—Nottingham Forest winning back to back games at Anfield for the first time in 62 years (29:02). It was a rollercoaster weekend in the Premier League, with many clubs being thrown from joy one minute to despair the next.Musa and Ryan focus on Manchester City’s 3-0 over Liverpool (03:30), which saw another goal for Erling Haaland and arguably Jeremy Doku’s best performance in a City shirt so far. For Liverpool, it was another day to forget and there’s yet more to ponder for Arne Slot during this men's international break. Sunderland did what no side has done this season, by scoring two against Arsenal at the Stadium of Light (21:38), there was late drama at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and more great wins for Villa, West Ham, Brentford and Everton. There's also chat about Pep Guardiola, after he reached 1000 games as a manager this weekend. All the non-Premier League stuff will be on the midweek show, up Wednesday for members, and for any London listeners, don't forget to get tickets for our first live show at the Southbank Centre here. For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio. 4:00 "He's lookig for a foul." "- It's not a foul" "No it's not. Absolutely not. For the record. Let me be clear. I'm NOT saying it was a foul." "- No." Gentlemen, it may be worth (re)watching this sequence again. Focus on Yamal's right foot, as well as Valverde's right foot. (Instead of his left leg.) Easy one to miss, but 💯% a foul.
I have rarely seen a more apt example of an Angry Goal than Vlahovic against Empoli.
France aren't actually playing negative football by choice at these Euros. The issue is that their entire attack is disfunctional. Mbappé has been terrible, even before the broken nose. Giroud gets no minutes and his legs may be gone. Thuram and Kolo Muani haven't been effective. Barcola gets no minutes because he's Mbappé's backup. Dembele has been the best of the bunch but no end product. And Griezmann, Deschamps' most important player, looks as tired as Kane does for England.
?? France have created far better goalscoring opportunities than Portugal have. Both statistically and based on the eye test. If Portugal stick to the predictable "long ball to CR7" over and over they have no chance.
Let's not kid ourselves here. The Saka/Palmer thing has little to do with tactics. There are 2 main lines on social media: Chelsea vs Arsenal banter brigades, and the somewhat more disturbing "Ian the race traitor" people.
Everyone knows the ELO rankings and not the FIFA rankings are where it's at.
