Yes, we know… we are the last people on the planet to read it – maybe WE needed to take a hint. The novel describes the fake-to-real relationship between practicing witch PhD student, Danika Brown, and retired professional rugby star-cum-security guard, Zafir Ansari. A viral video forces these two friends into a fake relationship for publicity. Will they find love for real? Also discussed: why sledding is baller, Rae gets drunk at a haunted attraction, and they actually have a book match for their Year of Sex card! You can buy Take A Hint, Dani Brown via Amazon or inquire at your local (Black-owned, please) bookstore.Next Up (March 8): No Trespassing, KD RobichauxWhat we’re reading:Lucy and Joshua’s epilogue in 99 Percent Mine, Sally ThorneIt Happened One Summer, Tessa BaileyThe Good Girls Guide to Rakes, Eva LeighThe Rake Gets Ravished, Sophie JordanWhat we’re listening to:Around the World in 80’s Days - because Rae don’t give a shit.SHOW INFORMATION:Website: www.chicklitbookclubpodcast.comTwitter: @ChickLitPodcastTikTok: ChickLitBookClubPinterest: ChickLitBookClubPodcastEmail: chicklitbookclubpodcast@gmail.comInstagram: ChickLitBookClubPodcastYoutube: YouTubeFacebook: FacebookPatreon: Support Us Here Hosted on Acast. Oy Vey, how different a week makes. We read  Talk Flirty to Me by Livy Hart. This book is a bit of a mess. It had so much potential but couldnt stick the landing. When faced with the last opportunity to break it big into voice acting, Piper Bellini has to ask her high school ex-boyfriend for the biggest favor, audition with her as a partner team for the biggest audiobook recording company going. Sam O’Shea needs a favor in return, get her family to endorse his bid for town mayor, and maybe mend fences after 7 years apart. What happens when the voice acting gig gets a little too real? Nothing. Pack the tissues dear listeners! The ladies went through the emotional wringer this week with the beautiful second in the Summer Reading series, Love at First Book by Jenn McKinlay. Martha’s Vineyard librarian, Emily Allen, is transplanted to the small Irish town of Finn’s Hollow with a job opportunity to assist her favorite author, Siobhan Riordan finish the final novel in her best-selling series. Amazing opportunity, right? It would be if not for her broody moody boss, Siobhan’s son, Keiran Murphy. Enjoy a story of craic, magic, and a lot of crying. We’re not kidding…HICCUPING, FOLX. Veronica’s friend Kristen has terminal lung cancer. She has been unable to work since her diagnosis, so she’s been living off of savings and GoFundMe donations. We stayed in Texas for another episode! This week, we read CASH by Jessica Peterson. When Mollie inherits her estranged father’s cattle ranch, she plans to immediately sell it and invest the money into her own business. The only problem is that she has to live on the ranch for a year before she actually owns it, which doesn’t really fit into her life in Dallas. Oh, and that hot ranch foreman who her father verbally promised the ranch to…he’s a problem, too. Over 100 people are now counted among the dead following a horrific flash flood in central Texas. If you’d like to help those affected, you can find resources here.Veronica’s friend Kristen, who she discusses at the end of the episode, has terminal lung cancer. To celebrate Pride Month, we read You & Me by Tal Bauer and ended up sobbing. But in a good way. In this bi-awakening novel, Luke is desperately trying to hold onto his relationship with his son, Emmet, after the sudden death of his wife. To get closer to Emmet, Landon suggests Luke volunteer with their sons’ football team (because this is Texas, after all). Emmet is best friends with Landon’s son Bowen, which means Luke and Landon end up spending a lot of time together…and eventually falling in love. The big question is: will Emmet be okay with it, or will this be the nail in the coffin of their relationship?Texas HB 229 info can be found here, along with information about other anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in the Texas Legislature. Up Next: CASH by Jessica PetersonSOS Novella: Step on Me, Please by Missy LoveWhat else we’re reading:The Anithero by Renee RoccoThe Wrong Mr. Right by Stephanie ArcherIn Your Dreams, Holden Rhodes by Stephanie ArcherSHOW INFORMATION: Join the DiscordFollow us on Spotify! Hope everyone is ready for fake dating/engagement/marriage on an accelerated timeline. This week, we read That Kind of Guy by Stephanie Archer, and spoiler alert: we loved it. Avery wants to buy the restaurant she manages, but she can’t get approved for a loan. Emmett is running for Mayor, but is lagging in the polls thanks to his 30s-and-single status. So Emmett proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement: he’ll co-sign on her business loan in exchange for her pretending to be his girlfriend. And then his fiancée. Oh, and also his wife. Emmett isn’t a relationship kind of guy, and Avery thinks Emmett is arrogant, so there’s no risk of them falling for each other…right?Up Next: You & Me by Tal BauerSOS Novella: Corny by Sabrina CrossWhat else we’re reading:A Court-Ordered Romance: Merry Mischief by Lark GreenThe Arch Demon in Auditing by Ella BeckSmokin’ Situation by E.L. Get ready for some cackling cuz we read Funny Business by Kayley Loring and boy, does it live up to its name. Successful (but questionably funny) comedian Owen Brodie is going on a six-week standup tour and wants to bring his seven-year-old son with him. The only issue is that he’ll need a nanny to travel with them. Owen’s manager suggests his niece, a fledgling comedian named Frankie…who he doesn’t know heckled Owen a few years back at a show in Tampa. Owen reluctantly hires Frankie–entirely because his son loves her. Owen and Frankie do nothing but snipe at each other, but you know what they say about the line between love and hate… Up Next: That Kind of Guy by Stephanie ArcherSOS Novella: Attracted by the Canopy Bed by Alina TepesWhat else we’re reading:Cry About It - Maggie GatesBourbon and Lies - Victoria Wilder (audio)The Marriage Hex by Sarah BlueNot Another Vampire Book by Cassandra GannonSHOW INFORMATION: Join the DiscordFollow us on Spotify! It’s time to step into the world of professional wrestling! We read Wild Side by Elsie Silver and thought of John Cena the whole time. When Tabitha’s sister dies, leaving behind her 3 year old son, she knows she’ll do anything to keep what’s left of her family together. But when she finds out that her sister named her reclusive, hulking, hot neighbor/landlord, Rhys, as her nephew’s legal guardian, Tabitha has to pivot. We’re closing the books on Rebel Blue Ranch with Wild and Wrangled by Lyla Sage. We’re sad to see this lovely blue sky adventure come to an end, but it’s fitting to do so with Cam and Dusty. With Cam’s fiance ditching her on their wedding day, Dusty steps in to the rescue. But can he convince her that they deserve a second chance? We hopped in our time machine this week to read 2006’s A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. When a Scottish Lykae (who just happens to be a king) finally scents his fated mate while being held prisoner by a bunch of vampires, he quite literally gnaws his way to freedom. Except that when he finds her on the streets of Paris, he realizes that she, too, is a vampire. Turn out, she’s only half-vampire. Her other half is valkyrie. And she’s a bada$$. (Eventually, anyway.) Also discussed: our professionalism, our dogs, and how technology is working against us. On that note, please excuse the random changes in audio quality. Up Next: Wild and Wrangled by Lyla SageSOS Novella: My Date with a Pair of Grey Sweatpants by Cassi O. We celebrate the second half of Black History Month (an episode late) with The Neighbor Favor by Kristina Forest, an absolute delightful love story based in the world of fantasy writing and the publishing business. A family of flower named females, a ‘fine as hell neighbor’, epistolary fiction device, and the magic of New York City combine in the first of the Greene Sisters series which we would 10/10 recommend. Also Discussed: our struggles with reading, Amazon boycotts, and ways to support indie authors. Up Next: A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley ColeSOS Novella: French Horny by Nora NoodleWhat else we’re reading:Reaper’s Claim: A Dark Paranormal Why Choose by Lady Kilroy Until the Shadows Claim Her by Amber Thoma The Orc’s Auctioned Mate by Veronika KaneSHOW INFORMATION: Join the DiscordFollow us on Spotify! Happy March, everyone! Spring is still somehow 84 years away and we’re reading Scot and Bothered by Alexandra Kiley. We got an ARC for this follow up to the Kilt Trip (episode 85), so if you’re reading this, the book is out. Middle Sutherland son Jack fell in love with American student Brooke when they were at the University of Edinburgh, but a lot of things got in the way. Seven years later, the two of them are working on the same project. And that project involves hiking an 80-mile long trail over a period of two weeks. Can anyone say “only one tent?” Also Discussed: pickles, Kdot, and why we’re not cut out for hiking Scottish trails.Up Next: The Neighbor Favor by Kristina ForestSOS Novella: Gagged by the Gherkin by Biblio BarbieWhat else we’re reading:Scythe and Sparrow by Brynne Weaver (listening to it!)Until the Shadows Claim Her by Amber Thoma (3/14)The Sea-Ogre’s Eager Bride by Ruby DixonSHOW INFORMATION: Join the DiscordFollow us on Spotify! We celebrate Black History Month with the amazingly gorgeous This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan. It’s a first Kennedy Ryan for both of us, and it will not be the last. Soledad discovers the man that she’s given two decades of her life to is a felonious scumbag, and she is inexplicably attracted to the man who uncovers his crimes. Forensic accountant Judah has been building a case against his coworker for over a year, and when he finally brings down the hammer, he realizes that Sol (whom he can’t stop thinking about) is caught in the crossfire. It’s week two of our return to human men! We read Illicit Illustration by friend of the show E.L. Koslo and we’re wondering when we can book a session with Reid. In this best friend’s (v!rg!n) little sister romance, we have the pleasure of watching a reformed rake fall to his knees for a talented woman. Get ready for art and tattoo discussions, as well as Koslo’s trademark spice. Also Discussed: Veronica’s upcoming signing, the Ruby Dixon multiverse, and the show format changes.NOTE: We already messed up our schedule, forgetting that this episode would publish in February. We’ve returned to the land of human men to read Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. But don’t worry, the heroine sh00ts the hero in this book. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this romance classic, we decided to see if this book holds up all these years later. Spoiler alert: some of the language is predictably frustrating (the 90s was a different time), but overall, this book stands the test of time. We’re talking top tier enemies to lovers. Continuing to avoid human men, we’re talking about Kidnapped by the Krampus by Emily Shore this week. Journalist Twyla is sent to Krampus World to see if she can uncover whether or not the elusive millionaire is actually real. Even when Krampus kidnaps her, she’s not convinced he’s real. She just thinks he’s dedicated to that costume. Krampus, on the other hand, is in a bind (and not the kind he likes to put Twyla in). Twyla seems to be his last hope to break a curse slowly turning his heart to ice. Also Discussed: the new Superman trailer and all the Cleveland shots (exclamation point!), Veronica’s upcoming interview with MIT, and how we’re not exactly in the Christmas spirit.Up Next: Anniversary Show!SOS Novella: Wrapped and Tapped by Vera Valentine and R.K.
