On this weeks episode, I cover the case of Tamla Horsford, who attended an adults sleep over in 2018 to celebrate a friends birthday, but who was found dead in the backyard the following morning after falling from a 15ft balcony. The case was deemed accidental and wasn't widely publicised, that is until 2020, when the death of George Floyd sparked the Black Live Matter protests and people began to share Tamla's case as they believed it hadn't been fully investigated - celebrities such as 50 Cent and Kim Kardashian signed and shared it, and suddenly, Tamla's case was widely discussed and scrutinised with many believing it was in fact a homicide. A reinvestigation was carried out - no further answers have been given. This episode uses AI - for a breakdown of the autopsy and the voice of R. Fernandes. *WARNING* This episode discusses mental health, drug use and suicide. Kurt Cobain, a name that many people will know and maybe you're one of the 36 million monthly listeners on Spotify of Nirvana.Sadly, we've been left with three albums worth of music to listen to on a loop for 31 years because in April 1994, Kurt was found dead in his Seattle home. Police determined it to be a suicide, Kurt had taken a lot of Heroin and appeared to have shot himself - but for many years, this theory has been questioned, many people speculated as to whether he really did take his own life. Last week, in February 2026 - news broke that a team of specialist forensics had re-looked into Kurt's case, and they believe the evidence strongly suggest her was in fact murdered. In this weeks episode, we cover Kurt as a person, his life in the band, his death and these new theories. Inside the bag, was Gareth's naked body.Very little DNA was found at the scene, there were no fingerprints on or inside the bag, despite the city facing a heatwave, the flats thermostat had been left on high. Some items in the flat that were found flooded the news which led the story on a different path. There were three main theories for Gareth, we'll explore these plus other areas of Gareth's life, work and potential connections to similar deaths in the years before and after. On the 30th June 1999, a badly decomposed body was found in a corn field in Missouri, through finger prints police were able to confirm it was the body of 41 year old Ricky McCormick, although there was a small suspicion that he had been murdered, due to the decomposition and the wobbly timeline around his date of death, the case fell cold. To start with, Ricky's case wasn't well known, it got a small mention in a local newspaper - his family were told that no clues had been found in connection to his death, but behind the scenes police had found something, two handwritten notes that appeared to be in code or a cipher. They handed them to the FBI who spent 12 years trying to crack the cipher in hopes it would give the answers around Ricky's potential murder, when they failed to crack they code, they made the notes public in March 2011 and suddenly, Ricky's death was thrown into the spotlight, amateur codebreakers around the world took the chance to beat the FBI to cracking the notes left - but to this day they have never been solved. But, were they ever meant to be solved? Are they even a cipher at all?To view copies of the notes left, head over to my instagram. On the 26th January 2011, Sam Goldberg returned to his apartment he shared with his fiancé, Ellen Greenberg, following using the gym and found the door closed from the inside, he tired to gain access by calling Ellen's name, sending texts and banging on the door - eventually, he broke the door down and found Ellen lying on their. kitchen floor dead and surrounded by blood. The autopsy that followed found that Ellen had 20 stabs wounds to her body, including 10 to back of her head and neck, with the final blow appearing to be to her heart, the first autopsy confirmed homicide as the cause of death - medical professionals over the years have stated that the areas stabbed to her neck would've left her incapacitated however, despite this, her cause of death was later ruled as suicide. Nearly 15 years later, and with multiple reviews of the case - the cause of death has remained the same, but with police failings meaning that the apartment was search following crime scene clean up, and failing to obtain statements, could Ellen's death really be murder? Is there a plausible way that she could've taken her own life with what eventually turned out to be 23 stabs of a knife to herself? This weeks episode tells the initial story Ellen's truly harrowing tale, and the covers what has been learnt in the 15 years that followed. On this weeks episode, I am joined by the wonderful Penny, Jo and Helen who have been fighting for over 30 years to get answers and be heard in relation to their Sister/Aunts unsolved murder. Joy Hewer was just 52 when she was murdered in her own home on the evening of 17th October 1995 - Joy was a private and security conscious person, who had a small circle of friends, she was a devout christian, a teacher and spent time volunteering. There was no sign of forced entry meaning that it must have been someone close to Joy who is responsible. Joy's story is easy to "research" - but the story you get in the newspapers and Crimewatch is actually very different to what happened to her. Over the next three episodes, Penny, Jo and Helen decide now is the time to really tell all on the case, from the police failings, the theories and what really happened to Joy. On the final episode of The Real Story of Joy Hewer, Penny tells us of the debacle Joy's family faced when it came to obtaining her ashes following the funeral. Penny, Jo and Helen talk about the constant changes of detectives leading the case and how there appears to be a pattern of them seeming keen and then going quiet. A revelation comes to light when Penny tells the story of finally being shown a picture of Joy following the fire brigade finding her.You can follow any updates on Joy's case by following the TikTok page created by Jo and Helen. Something a little different coming to you this week - and it may make you ask the question "Does this belong on a true crime podcast?"On the 8th March 2014 at Kuala Lumpa International Airport a Malaysia Airlines flight was preparing to take off on a regularly scheduled red eye flight to Beijing, China. The night was calm and clear, the pilot was experienced and there was no indication of anything going wrong on this flight, the pilot remained in contact with ATC until the point it was meant to check in with Vietnam ATC - it never did! Instead, the plane turned south and was uncontactable and untraceable. But in the background, the plane was sending handshakes and was, for a while, tracked by the military,But then they lost contact too - everything fell silent, there were no SQUAWKs sent, no distress signals yet somehow, this plane carried on flying for 7 hours. Why had the planed turned around? Where was it heading? We'll be covering the theories of what may have happened - and here's where the true crime part comes in! You'll have to listen to find out.If you have a story in mind that you would like featured, please email sslpod.kd@gmail.com, you can also find me on instagram and TikTokIf you would like to sponsor the podcast, you can do so via buymeacoffee Hosted on Acast. On Thursday 11th May 2006, Luke Durbin had a night out planned with two of his closest friends but by Saturday 13th May he was reported as missing. As police started to investigate Luke's disappearance, it became apparent that he was dealing in drugs and potentially was part of what is now known as County Lines. In 2010, Luke's case was upgraded from a missing person to a murder inquiry, but as of today, Luke has never been found. Luke's involvement with drugs was kept quiet in the press until a documentary on Channel 5 - Missing or Murdered - when it delved into the full story but the focus remains on what happened to Luke.Despite it being nearly 20 years since Luke was last seen, his case remains open and people still come forward with information.
