Amidst a puff of smoke machine across a sticky regional gay club dancefloor, Joel and David are meeting you in July 2005, rocking cropped leather gloves for the 'spiritual lead single' of the album. 'So Good' - written by friend of the podcast and brilliant pop songwriter Hannah Robinson and Pascal Gabriel - is a stomping, empowering electro-pop banger. An utterly irresistible way to welcome Rachel's new album and also a key part of Hannah's journey as a songwriter, as we discover. Your zesty hosts chat to Hannah Robinson about 'So Good' and Barry Stone, the amazing songwriter and producer part of The Alias (previously Jewels & Stone) who did the Adam Ant-inspired single 'I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)'. Plus, legendary director Trudy Bellinger, who did the fun "Bad Girls" prison-themed music video. Joel and David are joined by music industry legend Peter Loraine of Fascination Management, who was the Marketing Director at Polydor at time, looking after Rachel alongside Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment (now XIX Management). Pop fans, get those lip liners and leather trousers ready because this girl group special is taking us to the 90s *and* early 2000s! We are celebrating Fergie and Nicole Scherzinger's original girl groups - Wild Orchid and Eden's Crush - in the first US edition of our 'Lost Girl Bands' series. Prepare for wall-to-wall diva vocals, killer harmonies and zesty tunes! Before Fergie and Scherzy became pop icons as part of the biggest selling groups of the 2000s - The Black Eyed Peas and Pussycat Dolls - they had quite a rollercoaster ride with their respective girl groups. 90s pop R&B trio Wild Orchid was made up of Stacey Ferguson, Stefanie Ridel and Renee Sandstrom. Think big diva vocals, 90s supermodel glam and fun hun energy. In 1997, their soulful pop banger 'Talk To Me' made them a force to be reckoned with in the US and abroad. The trio launched two albums "Wild Orchid" (with the singles 'At Night I Pray' and 'Supernatural') and "Oxygen" in the 90s, and also toured with Cher and N*Sync! In 2000, "Popstars" the reality TV sensation hit America and spawned the quintet Eden's Crush - produced by legendary hitmaker David Foster. Meet Ana Maria Lombo, Ivette Sosa, Maile Misajon, Nicole Scherzinger and Rosanna Tavarez. The 2001 debut album "Popstars" sold half a million in America and made No.6 on the Billboard 200, featuring the spicy Top 10 hit single 'Get Over Yourself'.If you love girl groups and hidden pop gems - check out Episode 85 [Lost Girl Bands Vol.1 - Mini Viva, Dolly Rockers and Girls Can't Catch] and Episode 96 [Lost Girl Bands Vol. 2 - Neon Jungle, Parade and SoundGirl]!Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Stop, slow down, take a deep breath, pop fans! Before you go Out of Your Mind, we can confirm that what you see is what you get. We are finally doing a whole episode dedicated to Victoria Beckham's solo debut era, which launched 25 years ago this year. Your not-so-innocent pop explorers Joel and David are kicking off in the summer of 2000 with the monumental cultural shift that was Vicky B's UK Garage collab with Truesteppers and Dane Bowers, 'Out of Your Mind'. The whirlwind media saga, a nail-biting chart battle with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Spiller ('Groovejet'), and a string of outstanding live performances from Party In The Park in Hyde Park to MTV in Mallorca... this set the bar extremely high for Posh Spice's solo debut in a midst of duelling Solo Spice releases and an actual Spice Girls comeback on the horizon! The episode also centres on the underrated 2001 "Victoria Beckham" album. A classy pop and R&B body of work made with some of the world's best songwriters and producers; the album gave us the Top 10 singles 'Not Such An Innocent Girl' and 'A Mind of Its Own'. We revisit the album tracks, music videos, visuals, live performances (hello, G-A-Y), photo shoot and b-sides! We look back at this incredibly intense period in David and Victoria Beckham's public lives - with TV documentaries, Victoria's memoir "Learning To Fly" and more keeping the public, media and pop fans fed. Dare we say, this is the most thorough and celebratory podcast episode dedicated to VB's solo career! And we can't wait for the Netflix documentary. Don't forget to check out our other Victoria Beckham episodes: "Victoria Beckham: Coming To America" and our deep dive into Vic's 'This Groove/ Let Your Head Go' era and the bonus songs on the "Réal Beckham" DVD.Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Before "K-pop Demon Hunters" topped the charts and BLACKPINK sold out stadiums; "Queen of K-pop" BoA was making moves you can't ignore. This episode, we're diving into the multi-talented Korean singer, dancer and producer's US debut English album - the self-titled "BoA" - released in 2009. If you loved Britney's "Blackout" and Janet Jackson's "Feedback" vibes, then this is the lost gem of an album you're going to stan. After selling millions of records as the No.1 teen-pop sensation in Korea and Japan for close to a decade; SM Entertainment's shining starlet BoA has her sights set on America. For her debut English album; they roped in some of the hottest electro-pop and R&B hitmakers including Bloodshy & Avant (Britney, Kylie), Sean Garrett (Usher, Destiny's Child), Brian Kennedy (Rihanna's 'Disturbia'). There's a Britney co-write, a Monrose cover, killer choreography and flashy music videos to unpack... what's not to love? The "BoA" album made history as the first album by a South Korean artist to ever chart on the Billboard 200. Literally, not everybody has that.Join Joel and David as they go back in time to revisit one of K-pop's most significant breakthrough stories in America; and share their personal loves for the genre on the podcast for the very first time!Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Thou shall get in the time machine! Ladies, fellas and non-binary friends leave your cares at home 'cause your favourite 2000s pop explorers Joel and David have arranged a date with Destiny. Somewhat coinciding with DC3's recent reunion at the Cowboy Carter Tour finale; we are back celebrating one of the most successful girl groups of our generation. Let's go back to 1999 - a time of cowboy hats, bandana tops and diamond belly rings - to revisit one of the best-selling R&B albums of our time, "The Writing's On The Wall". Not only was this a pivotal coming-of-age album and turning point for Beyoncé, Kelly, Letoya and Latavia's careers; it spawned a string of beloved hits that soundtracked the turn of the millennium like the GRAMMY-winning smash 'Say My Name', the chart-topper 'Bills, Bills, Bills' and bangers 'Bug A Boo' and 'Jumpin Jumpin'. We get into all the singles, music videos, photo shoots, Tina Knowles designs, fave album tracks and fun deep cuts (hello, Solange remix!). And chronicle what a whirlwind time of breakthrough success, dramatique line-up changes, and global presence it was for Destiny's Child! As always, much respect to ALL the ladies: Beyoncé, Kelly, Michelle, Letoya, Latavia, Farrah and obviously... "Donde esta el hombre?" We are continuing our spicy "Schizophonic Summer" journey with Part Two of Geri Halliwell's iconic debut album era! After reintroducing herself as a solo artiste in May 1999 with 'Look At Me''s flamboyant multi-character narrative (hello 'Bitch', 'Vamp', 'Virgin' and 'Sister'), Geri's now giving us three more distinct campaigns with the following chart-topping singles: 'Mi Chico Latino', 'Lift Me Up' and 'Bag It Up'.Joel and David revisit the lavish music videos, promo campaign, live performances, and b-sides. From the camp-as-tits 2000 BRIT Awards performance to serving Bond Girl realness sailing in Sardinia, frolicking with aliens in Malaga to manufacturing Girl Powder with sexy male dancers... each single had its own zest. There is truly so much to unpack! And if you haven't listened to Part One where we dived into Geri's solo debut with the bombastic 'Look At Me' and our "Schizophonic" album track highlights... you know what to do now!Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Welcome to our Summer of "Schizophonic", pop fans, where what you see IS what you are getting! We are heading back to our school days of 1998 and 1999 to revisit the iconique debut solo album by Geri Halliwell. Arriving literally just one year after Geri dropped the bombshell of the century that she was leaving the Spice Girls - one of the planet's biggest pop girl groups ever - our Gezza went on to execute the greatest comeback and solo career debut there ever was. With pure bombast, confidence and sense of drama, this episode looks into one of the most exciting PR masterclasses known to our generation of music fans with Geri's transition from Ginger Spice to solo superstar. Joel and David kick things off with a deep dive into the debut single 'Look At Me' - an unapologetically camp statement of intent - and Geri's accompanying global press tour, before going into personal album highlights from "Schizophonic". Stay tuned for Part Two where we get into the chart-topping singles 'Mi Chico Latino', 'Lift Me Up' and 'Bag It Up'!Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Pop fans, we totally feel your heart go (*whistle melody*) as soon as you saw this episode's title! It is a big swipe right from us as we break tradition to venture into the 2010s for this super special 10 year anniversary of Hilary Duff's last album, "Breathe In. Breathe Out.".
This album has been on a colourful journey from 2012 through to 2015, resulting in a vibrant melting pot of mainstream Top 40 EDM-pop and country-pop. For Hilary Duff's first album in eight years, she tapped some of pop's best hitmakers from Tove Lo to Ed Sheeran and Toby Gad, ILYA and Savan Kotecha (who have worked with Beyonce, Ariana Grande and Britney). We revisit all the highlights from 'Chasing The Sun' and 'All About You' to 'Sparks', 'One In A Million', 'Tattoo', 'Confetti' and more!
Join the JB - our resident platinum card-holding Hilary Duff stan - and David as we get out the choppy bob and pastel hair chalk to reminisce on this time in pop culture where we've swapped CD:UK for Shazam.

Happy Pride, everyone! After last weekend's joyous Mighty Hoopla festival, we simply had to jump on - with utterly fried vocal chords - to debrief and unpack our highlights with you! We're so excited to have the reactions and reflections from Dannii Minogue and incredible performers (and friends of the pod) Tom Aspaul, Pixie Lott, Amy Studt and Craig from the London Gay Men's Chorus who sang on the main stage with Samantha Mumba.
This is the first time in our seven-year history where your RBAY boys have done a post-festival highlights episode but since there were so many moments that were euphoric and specific to us 2000s pop fans - it called for a special. From A*Teens to Heidi Montag, Ciara to Supersister and many more meauxments... we hope this recap transports you to the glitter and disco-filled ambience of Brockwell Park!

Ahead of A*Teens' eagerly-anticipated performance at Mighty Hoopla festival, your 2000s pop explorers Joel and David have gone back in the vaults to unearth one of our favourite episodes, celebrating the discography of this incredible Swedish pop group! After starting life as a teenage ABBA tribute pop group, this fab foursome quickly became a fully fledged pop act in their own right with massive bangers like 'Upside Down', 'Halfway Round The World' and 'Floorfiller'. Even opening for Britney on tour and securing appearances on Disney and Nickelodeon, growing a loyal global fanbase along the way.
Back in 2021, we were so much more ambitious by covering three albums and a Greatest Hits release in one episode! So if you're unfamiliar with the work of Dhani, Sara, Amit and Marie - here's everything you need to know and more. We're sure you'd be bouncing off the ceilings by the end of the listen.

Before she rocks out on stage next month at Mighty Hoopla festival, British singer-songwriter Amy Studt takes a special trip down memory lane with Joel and David, reminiscing on her anthemic 2000s smash 'Misfit' and every aspect of her landmark debut album "False Smiles", the Gold-certified album which spawned four singles - including two UK Top 10 hits. Where the US market had Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff, we were channelling all our teenage angst with Amy!
Amy's rise to pop stardom sounds like something straight out of a movie. Enter a "grungy teen" from a seaside English town who loved to write songs, plucked from obscurity by music svengali Simon Fuller (the man behind Spice Girls and S Club 7) and placed in the studio with some of the industry's best pop songwriters and producers. Cue Karen Poole, Yak Bondy, David Eriksen, Cathy Dennis, Gary Barlow, Eliot Kennedy, and Rob Davis.
This conversation is a real nostalgic snapshot of a teen pop star's life in the early 2000s. From legendary 19 Management Christmas parties with Amy Winehouse, Pop Idol stars and S Club 7, through to "CD:UK" and extravagant overseas music video shoots... and even the curious case of a Sheryl Crow cover.
Proving she's so much more than 'Just A Little Girl', Amy also talks about how her artistry has evolved over the years with the 2008 alt-pop gem "My Paper Made Men" and avant-garde 2019 "Happiest Girl In The Universe" - and what's next for her.

Fighters, do you want to get crazy? Because this month marks 15 years of Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" era kicking off with the club banger 'Not Myself Tonight'. The Old Xtina of "Back To Basics" was gone and she's feeling brand new, embracing a futuristic and experimental electronic-pop chapter. 2010 was an epic year for our Caggie Aggie, not only was the new mum back stronger and sexier than ever with a new album but she's also making her film lead role debut with "Burlesque" (Has anybody looked up the air rights?)
Joel and David pick things up in 2008 where Our Cagz was starting her new musical journey with the single for her Greatest Hits, 'Keeps Gettin Better'. From there begins the two-year voyage into "Bionic" with an eclectic, "crotch-stirringly exciting cast of collaborators" * that include Sia, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., Peaches, Le Tigre, Ladytron, Santigold, Linda Perry, Tricky Stewart (Beyoncé, Mariah), Ester Dean (Rihanna), Polow Da Don (Ciara, Fergie), Claude Kelly (Kelly Clarkson, Jessie J) and more.
From sex positive bangers like 'Woohoo' to strutting anthems like 'Prima Donna', 'Glam' and 'Vanity', through to left-field electronic-pop experiments ('Elastic Love', 'My Girls') and soaring ballads ('You Lost Me', 'Lift Me Up') - this album is definitely Caggie's most ambitious body of work.
So let's get glam and hop in our electronic, supersonic rocket set for the year 2010 and make it pop-pop-pop!

It's 20 years of "The Emancipation of Mimi", a cause for celebration, dahhlings! This is a very special reissue of our episode covering one of Mariah's greatest albums - and actually, arguably one of our best episodes. A classic's a classic. If Mariah's doing an anniversary reissue then so are we!
Lambs and Lambs-in-training, stay locked into the #Mimi20 celebrations as the 20th Anniversary edition of "The Emancipation of Mimi" is due for release on 30 May, with bonus tracks, in various formats for us all to enjoy. Don't forget our Butterfly Monarch is headed back to the UK this summer to headline Brighton Pride.
If you're loving our journey with Mariah's discography, let us know in the comments which album you'd like us to cover next.

When Britney said 'I need time and space', we fully respected her wishes... which is why we have split this monumental "Britney" album era into two episodes.
So, say 'hello' to Part 2. We are picking things up in 2002 with the other singles from this era after deep-diving into 'I'm A Slave 4 U' and our album highlights in the last episode. Here, Joel and David compare the videos for 'Overprotected' and the 'Overprotected (Darkchild Remix)', and get into the visual storytelling and references behind the music. The "Crossroads" action is in full swing here with the gorgeous ballad 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman' (Dido fans, rise up!). And your RBAY boys also prepare to get 'nasty' to the dead rockeh 'I Love Rock & Roll' and 'Boys' singles - including the spicy single remix featuring Pharrell.
