Creators idolize perpetrators, shame victims, or are completely checked out on cases while they focus on other things. However, we can’t forget there are victims who lost their lives and families who are still grieving to this day.
Furthermore, many True Crime outlets spend their time focusing on themselves or rambling, instead of getting right to the facts of the case. We hear you, this is frustrating.
The Misery Machine focuses on cases the media fails to give proper attention to. We want to help give those a voice that never got to have one, to begin with. We also cover aspects of cases that other podcasts might look the other way on, and the way that these cases impact their communities for generations. It’s not enough to simply cover a case, our platform must be used to make a difference.

This week, Drewby and Yergy discuss the case of Antron Singleton, more commonly known as Big Lurch, an up-and-coming figure in the horrorcore and gangsta rap scenes. In April 2002, while under the heavy influence of PCP, Big Lurch murdered his 21-year-old roommate, Tynisha Ysais, in her apartment in Los Angeles, California. Police found Big Lurch naked and covered in blood, wandering the street, while Tynisha's body was discovered with her chest torn open and her right lung removed. This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Queens, New York, to discuss the case of 3-year-old Autumn Coleman, also known as Zoey Pereira. On the night of May 5th, 2019, first responders found a burning Audi sedan near Baisley Boulevard and 155th Street in Springfield Gardens, Queens. Autumn was strapped into a car seat in the back of the vehicle. To prevent her escape or rescue, her father, Martin "Tony" Pereira, had doused the car in gasoline and chained the rear doors shut from the inside. Investigators also found propane tanks and gas canisters intended to fuel the fire. Firefighters managed to pull Autumn from the wreckage after the heat from the flames melted the door handle, allowing them to break through the chains. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center but died shortly after from severe burns and smoke inhalation. This week, Drewby and Yergy travel to France to discuss the case of Lola Daviet, a 12-year-old Parisian schoolgirl and gymnastics champion whose brutal murder shocked the whole country and became a focal point for intense national debate on immigration and security. On October 14th, 2022, Lola was abducted after returning from her school, Collège Georges Brassens, in the 19th Arrondissement (District) of Paris. Her body was found by a homeless man later that evening inside of a plastic storage trunk. This week, Drewby and Yergy do something a little different... We'll be discussing the case of 34-year-old Jonathan Gerlach of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, who was arrested in January 2026 for allegedly stealing human remains from the historic Mount Moriah Cemetery. Investigators discovered over 100 sets of human remains, including skulls and mummified parts, at his home and storage unit. He faces hundreds of criminal counts, including burglary, abuse of a corpse, and desecration of public monuments, and is currently held on $1 million bail.Note: Yes, I know we're pronouncing "Gerlach" wrong. 1This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Oakland, California, to discuss the case of 18-year-old Nia Wilson, a beautiful young woman who had dreams of joining the military or becoming a paramedic so that she could help people. On the evening of July 22nd, 2018, Nia and her sisters, Letifah and Tashiya, were transferring trains at the MacArthur BART station in Oakland after attending a family party. Without provocation or prior interaction, 27-year-old John Lee Cowell approached them from behind and slashed Nia’s throat, also stabbing Letifah in the neck. Nia died at the scene within minutes. Letifah survived the attack with serious injuries. Tashiya was not physically harmed. John was arrested the following day at the Pleasant Hill BART station after a passenger recognized him from surveillance footage and tipped off police. During the trial, John's defense argued he was legally insane, citing a history of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This week, Drewby and Yergy head back over to Bakersfield, California, to discuss the case of 8-year-old Ger'Mya Amirah Alexander. On the morning of March 18, 2020, Bakersfield police responded to a report of a child not breathing. Ger'Mya was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries later that day. The Kern County Coroner ruled the death a homicide, citing multiple blunt force traumatic injuries alongside acute bronchopneumonia, sickle cell trait, and hypoxic respiratory failure. Clint Mason, the 37-year-old boyfriend of Ger'Mya's mother, was identified as the suspect. He was arrested on March 19, 2020, in Inglewood, California. Court reports revealed that he had assaulted Ger'Mya over several hours with a belt, a metal cane, and his hands because she had not finished her homework. This week, Drewby and Yergy head down to Georgia to discuss the case of Romeo Jaxton Dru Angeles, also known as JD Williams. On January 14th, 2024, baby JD was found unresponsive in the dorm room of Trinity Poague, his father's new girlfriend. He later died at an area hospital from blunt force trauma to the head and torso. Trinity was an 18-year-old freshman student at Georgia Southwestern State University at the time of the crime, and the reigning Miss Donalsonville. In court, prosecutors argued that Trinity killed the child out of resentment and jealousy, presenting text messages where she stated she "hated" the child and "wanted to punch him". London was a beautiful 17-year-old girl with a promising future that went missing in April of 2025. Not long after, her remains were discovered sealed in a tote inside of an SUV. What's with all the commercials out of nowhere? The last three episodes were more commercial than actual story.
Wtf??? There were four sets of ads - each 2 to 3-minute set is not even 5 minutes apart each time, and I'm only ¾ done. There better not be any more ads!

I am a heroin addict and have gone thru the worst withdrawals including seizures and almost dying a few times. there is NOWAY she did this during or because of heroin withdrawal!!!!

Parents just never answer the door and Hide from dcfs Are The BAD ones and they Need to get a Warrent and MAKE Them open the door and see the kids. "Birthing centers" are actually very common. Midwives are responsible for coaching during labor and delivery and the mother can choose to go home shortly thereafter. A typical stay is 12 to 24 hours post delivery. And having a twin pregnancy with an early singular loss is extremely common. My best friend was pregnant with twins but lost one before week 10.
