This month sees us stepping away from the themed episode format and embracing more of a magazine style with individual stories. Having said that there is a small commonality due to both stories in this episode being connected to book events, albeit quite different events. There are further changes coming in the future as we’re looking to increase the number of voices by offering the opportunity of guest spots. If you’re interested in writing and/or presenting a story for The Lost Book Nook you can contact us on Substack or using our email thelostbooknook@substack.com with your one page proposal. All audio slots should be 10-15 minutes in length. This is a public episode. This month The Lost Book Nook takes a look at the words of war, from the war poets of the First World War to more contemporary literary journalism. This felt the appropriate theme for the month with the day of publication being Remembrance Sunday in the UK and the 11th November being Armistice Day that marks the end of the First World War. This episode marks a shift in direction for the podcast to begin a delve into where art, culture, and philosophy meet. This convergence as a topic of study is known in academia as "Intermediality" and will broadly be the core focus of this podcast. This particular episode is looking at expectations, anticipation, identity, and associated anxiety. How these things have been thought about and reflected in the arts and culture. For more on Intermediality I recommend checking out this site from Edinburgh University https://blogs.ed.ac.uk/intermediality/Books mentioned in this pod:Protagoras by Plato Darien Disaster by John PrebbleWandaVision is a series now available on Disney+ This is a public episode. Inspired by a night out at the theatre this episode is about that night, what it meant to me, and how it came to be. This is a memoire style journal episode. Covering the latest Emma Rice version of Blue Beard and a little about the Harajuku Kitchen Japanese restaurant in Bruntsfield, this episode meanders around family, personal history and experiences of being an oddball 40 something male living in this daydream of the city of Edinburgh. You can read my review of Blue Beard on my blog here https://www.ajmerron.co.uk/post/it-s-a-different-blue-beard-a-reviewFind out more about the play from Wise Children here https://www.wisechildrendigital.com/blue-beard This is a public episode.
