This description of Paul’s preaching in Athens teaches us how the Gospel should be responded to today. All without faith in Christ who hear the gospel should : 1) Acknowledge God as the Creator and Sustainer of all life.2) Personally respond to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ3) Reject the spirit of the age and all false religion 4) Repent of all sin, and trust in Christ’s death and resurrection for salvation. God has saved us in order that we might, as His priests, offer up the spiritual sacrifices of a holy life in obedience to His holy law. Therefore, by the power of the Spirit, as we long for the milk of the word, we shall indeed be able to lay aside malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies and evil speaking. We must, however, as newborn babes, cry out for the milk of God’s word, that we might feed on His truth and so grow more like Christ in holiness, to the glory of His Name. One cannot be a true Christian without having the Spirit-given desire to pursue a perfection of holiness. As we read in Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord”. Yes, we are saved by grace alone and not by works, but the word of God also declares : No holiness, no heaven.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Thank you for listening. In this passage the apostle Paul explains to us how : 1. the Christian must follow the apostolic teaching and example.2. the Christian must exercise his potential to be an encouraging example to other believers, just as Paul’s example of faithfulness in the midst of suffering encourages the Philippians. 3. the Christian must have a burden for the progress of the Gospel, supporting such work in every way he can. 4. the Christian must trust to God’s providence in the midst of adversity, for God’s grace is always sufficient to help in the midst of great trial. 5. the Christian must keep on bearing fruit, as these Philippians did, for our service is a sweet-smelling sacrifice to God.6. Finally, those who are trusting Christ in all circumstances, no matter what the difficulties, will not be overwhelmed, and will be able to do all things through Christ who strengthens them . Britain was delivered from a powerful enemy in 1945. Ultimate victory was achieved. In 1940 the nation being invaded and overrun was a distinct possibility and the most likely outcome, but a humbled people prayed. In fact, during WW2 there were 12 national days of prayer. This podcast sets forth the gospel of Jesus Christ as Britain's only hope, discussing the state of the nation in the light of the teachings of the Bible.Information about today's podcast episode: As Solomon comes to the throne, the nation - under God’s mighty hand - will become the wonder and envy of the world, but not because Solomon will pursue an earthly glory. It will rather be because he fears God and seeks to uphold God’s perfect laws. Regarding the coronation of Charles III, this can be the only pattern for our nation today. Our government must acknowledge that Britain can only prosper as it honours the one true Trinitarian God, and of course the people themselves must turn in repentance and faith to the only Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us pray for the preaching of the gospel, so that many in our nation might be converted, because then, gradually, the Scriptures will again become part of the fabric of our national life. Only in such a manner can society again become characterised by righteousness. Solomon put God and His word at heart of the nation’s life.
