Around the summer of 2000, the name "Karen" became synonymous with a very specific type of woman... But why is that type of woman the way that she is?Laura got curious and decided to do some research on the psychology of Karens, which led her down rabbit holes of American history, into the dark minds of racists, cops, and conservatives, to uncover the root of the hatred we've all come to know and recognize.00:00 Intro/Welcome0:03:23 What is a Karen?0:08:27 2 Types of Karen0:12:24 Types of Racist0:19:59 The Cure for racism?0:26:19 White Guilt0:34:31 Conservative Psychology0:37:12 Scottsboro Boys & Groveland Four0:42:46 WHY are Karens?0:48:01 The Flip Side0:53:18 Who should we hate?Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Chloe might be an actual trans person now… but she USED to be a massive *phobe! How did she unlearn her phobia and realize the person she was inside? What societal pressures kept her hiding, or unaware of the truth? And what finally pushed her over the edge into coming out and living loud and proud? That full story today.Next time, Laura tells HER story of unlearning her transphobia, how having trans friends helped along that journey, and what other factors played a role.Subscribe to get ALL of our videos as they come out, including investigations into whether notorious transphobes are in "The Files," where key misogynistic/homophobic/transphobic ideas originate, and how we can overcome our programming...00:00 Tease/Intro03:04 Why Transphobic? People (mostly men) LOVE to say "just face it, women could never compete with men, it's just facts" ...but is that true? Or have we been fed misinformation for literal centuries? In this episode, we continue our tale about the centuries-long FIGHT for Women's equality in sports. This episode picks up in 1896, just at the dawn of the return of the Olympics (after a 1500 year period without them), and tracks up to the present day. Why weren't women allowed to compete? How did they earn the right to do so? Why did that somehow lead to LESS inclusion? What does the Cold War have to do with America finally letting women be athletic? (No, seriously) When did sports start "Gender Testing," and what is the motivation behind it?We answer ALL of those questions AND MORE as we finish the tale of the FIGHT for Women's Sports Equality!Subscribe to get ALL of our videos as they come out, including investigations into whether notorious transphobes are in "The Files," where key misogynistic/homophobic/transphobic ideas originate, and how we can overcome our programming00:00 Intro/Part 1 Recap00:01:45 Return of the Olympics00:05:05 Women Join Olympics00:09:55 Why FEAR Women's Sports?00:14:07 1st Trans Olympian (Fears Justified!)00:16:09 Nazis + Genital Testing00:19:05 Russian Women00:21:40 Global Pressure: Women's Athletics in USA00:26:45 First "Chromosome" Test00:33:40 Title IX00:37:18 Caster Semenya & Birth of Hormone Testing00:45:14 Death & Rebirth of Hormone Testing00:50:10 HopeLike, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Have women ALWAYS been less athletic than men? Or could there be an explanation as to why that's the case? (Maybe something to do with PATRIARCHY?!)In this episode, we break down the history of women's inclusion in sports, going alllll the way back to ancient times, including ancient Rome, Indigenous cultures, BCE China, and more, chronicling the PURPOSE of sporting throughout history, when women were included, when they STOPPED being included, and the various socio-cultural factors that altered our evolution and created the athletic dichotomy between gender that we see today.Subscribe to get PART 2, covering women's athletics throughout the 20th century, + when & how we started 'gender testing' at the Olympics... EMERGENCY BROADCAST: NEW FILE DROP!*TRIGGER WARNING* We will be reading, aloud, one of the 'FILES' that was released, detailing a sinister plan that reveals who was ACTUALLY behind all the stuff that trans people have been accused of for the last few decades...A WHOLE lot of stuff is finally coming to light. It TURNS OUT... the venn diagram of 'transphobes' and 'pedos' is a nearly perfect circle, and almost all of the transphobic rhetoric we've seen in the last 30 years has been created BY dark, sinister forces with ulterior motives--namely, to point the spotlight away from their own fetishes and ONTO a group of innocent victims. In this episode, a MASSIVE part of the conspiracy against trans people is revealed, and you WILL NOT BELIEVE some of the connections we made...Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Whether you're newly out, just exploring the community, or trying to do some research to be more supportive of a friend or family member who you found out is transitioning... there are a LOT of terms around being transgender (or any variation thereof) that can be hard to parse, and sometimes you just don't feel comfortable asking someone to do the emotional labor of explaining it to you! That's what this two-part episode is for!!That's not to say this video ISN'T for you if you're already an expert on queer terminology... because we're also going to explain the HISTORY of these words: where they came from, who coined them, why they're used, why there's pushback, and why they're important!!In this episode, we're finishing up with the remaining 13 of the 27 terms Chloe researched, including: what's the difference between 'transgender, transsexual, transvestite, and drag,' and how did those terms slowly unfold into each other over the course of the last 150 years? In order to explain that, we have to talk about the difference between 'gender identity' and 'gender expression,' before we dive into a whole series of terms: gender-affirming surgery, hormone replacement therapy, puberty blockers, facial feminization/masculinization surgery, and gender dysphoria vs body dysmorphia. Then we wrap the whole thing up with the most controversial word of them all: autogynephilia. No matter what you know about this word already, you're going to be surprised by the long (and insidious) history behind it.Subscribe or come back in two weeks for a whole lot more!00:00 Intro/Table of Contents00:02:54 -gender vs -sexual vs -vestite vs DRAG00:13:07 GAS00:19:58 Gender Dysphoria00:23:17 Puberty Blockers00:25:33 HRT + FFS/FMS00:28:11 Autogynephilia: Origins00:42:14 AGP: "Evidence"00:50:00 AGP: Counterevidence00:55:14 "Birth-Order Effect"01:00:37 Data Overwhelm01:06:47 Hebe- Pedo- Ephebo-For a list of ALL of the sources used for research on this episode, head to our YouTube and the links are all in the video description.Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Did men ruin calendars??Because it's the end of the year, curiosity got the better of Laura, and she decided to look into why our calendar is organized the way it is. Why are there 12 months? Why are there such a random number of days in each month? Why are their names of the so nonsensical? How did ancient civilizations organize their calendars? And is the answer to every one of these questions just, "PATRIARCHY"?!The answer then raises new questions: Why DON'T we organize our calendar around a natural cycle like the moon? Why did ancient matriarchal cultures ALL organize their years around the moon? What role did Catholicism play in the destruction of ancient ways of organizing time??Literally all of those answers and more (plus quite a bit of rambling) in this episode.00:00:00 Intro00:03:07 Lunar vs Solar00:14:42 Matriarchies with Lunar Calendars00:41:17 Patriarchy: Caesar, Julian, Gregorian00:53:09 Desert Faith00:55:28 What do we do? / Farewell!Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Before colonialism took over the globe, before the Abrahamic/patriarchal Religions took hold, there were trans people. In fact, EVERY pre-colonized culture had a version of trans people, and in EVERY culture, the same belief cropped up again and again: people who were cross-gender or 'between' genders were the people with supernatural abilities, capable of communing with the spirit realm, heal sickness and disease, sense evil, befriend animals, see the future, and more...In PART THREE of our exploration of gender variance in pre-colonial cultures, we explore 1) slaves who were FORCED to be trans, 2) how terminology has evolved and been co-opted to fit into larger colonial societies, 3) alternate possible causes for alternative gender identities, and most importantly... 4) the spiritual connections / superpowers that trans people were believed to hold. Some of these cultures are still holding it down in the fight against colonizers, and to them we say: KEEP IT UP.Today, we're covering another SIX cultures (although it's secretly a lot more), and the history of the gender-differing people within them. Namely: The various Two Spirit identies of Indigenous North America, the Köçek (or 'forcibly transed slaves') of the Ottoman Empire, the Sworn Virgins (trans men) of the Balkans, the HIGHLY spiritually connected Machi of Mapuche culture in Chile and Argentina (and their FIGHT against colonizers), the Chibados of Ndongo and Matamba, and the Femminiello, who may have evolved from the Galli, in Italy. Join us on this vision quest deep into the past to learn more about our present, what could have been, and what may still be to come!00:00:00 Intro/Welcome!00:01:23 Two Spirit of North America00:15:57 The Köçek of the Ottoman Empire00:30:43 The Machi of Chile and Argentina00:48:05 The Chibados of Ndongo & Matamba00:52:14 The Femminiello of ItalyLike, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Samantha Fulnecky, a junior at the University of Oklahoma, has cried RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION after she FAILED a Psychology research paper, wherein she ignored the rubric & requirements and INSTEAD wrote about her personal beliefs that trans people are "Demonic" and "listening to Satan." Her professor's administrative assistant, who she knew would be grading the assignment, was a transgender woman named Mel Curth.Mainstream Media has been covering this story as "Transgender teacher fails student for quoting the Bible!" -- a narrative that has been HEAVILY touted and pushed by Turning Point USA's University of Oklahoma chapter. So today, we're going to give you JUST THE FACTS about this story: what was the research paper she was supposed to be responding to? How did she respond? What has been the fallout from her actions? Why is she so insistent on turning FAILURE into a media moment? And more importantly... what can WE do to reinstate Mel Curth, who was put on probation?Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. Before colonialism took over the globe, before Christianity, Buddhism, and the other patriarchal Religions took hold, there were trans people. In fact, EVERY pre-colonized culture had a version of trans people, many having as many as 5 recognized genders. And in every colonization story--they were the first ones targeted and unalived. Why?That's some of what we explore in PART TWO of our exploration of the pre-colonial cultures and their gender identities, how those identities evolved, and what they look like today--at least, the ones that still exist.Today, we're covering another FOUR of those cultures, and the history of the gender-differing people within them. Namely, the 5 genders of the Bugis, the Irawhiti of the Māori, the Mahu of the Hawai'ian Islands, and the Fa'afafine of Samoa. You hear it a lot these days: "Trans People just came out of nowhere!", "This whole transgender thing is a made up fad!", "There's no evidence of trans people ever existing before!"Except... none of that is true. Before colonialism, before Christianity, before patriarchy... there were trans people. Trans people were such a natural part of humanity, that transgender people existed in nearly every indigenous and pre-colonial culture across the entire globe. Not only that, but those trans people were seen as 'closer to god,' and in nearly every society, were chosen as spiritual and religious leaders, sometimes being the only ones trusted to choose the King.Much of that history was lost to the violence of missionaries and colonizers, but some of it remained. Today, we're covering FOUR of those cultures, and the history of the gender-differing people within them. Namely, the Hijra, Kathoey, Muxe, and Bakla.Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from The Lady and the Trans Podcast. What does it mean to be intersex? How many intersex people are in the world? How many different variations (that we know of) currently exist? Is it possible to be intersex and not know? (yes) Why are people so obsessed with performing nonconsensual surgery on newborns?! How much overlap is there between Intersex and Transgender rights?!?!We answer all of these questions and more in our first deep-dive into Intersex People. Our main takeaway? If we want Equality For All... it behooves us to drop what we're doing and start fighting for Intersex Rights, and NOW.Well worth a look: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IntersexLike, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from Lady and the Trans Podcast. We've taken some HEAT online recently in regards to the title of this podcast. A small (but loud) group of activists think we're implying, 'trans women aren't ladies.' So, to put the whole discussion to bed, we figured we'd take this opportunity to EXPLAIN OURSELVES!We discuss WHY we chose the title, the multitude of factors that went into that decision, and whether or not we agree that it could be considered transphobic. Then we talk about The Lady and the Tramp (1955), Chloe being in a fraternity, the general state of the internet, and a few other random topics before we call it a day.Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from Lady and the Trans Podcast. When Chloe first moved to Los Angeles, she wanted to be an actor. She didn't know she was Chloe yet, was just a lost 'boy' making her way in the world, and she stumbled onto what seemed like a free ticket to success: a 'casting director' who was teaching a free acting class to find new talent. But from there, she entered into a world of lies, deceit, misery, abuse, mental manipulation, trauma, and more. This episode breaks down her experience in the cult, how cults function, the mental manipulation tactics employed to keep people trapped, and the fallout from the whole ordeal.A MASSIVE trigger warning: This episode features descriptions of SA and other forms of abuse. The Original Blog: https://thejustinxavier.wordpress.com/2016/10/12/my-true-experience-in-a-los-angeles-rape-cult/Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from Lady and the Trans Podcast. As you may have seen recently (and probably for the first time) the word "transmaxxer" has been gracing our social media feeds. This is a very specific type of person, a far-right incel who *pretends* to be transgender, and is guilty of nearly every thing that the real transgender community is frequently accused of...WHAT?! As they say, *every* accusation is a confession. Is it possible the haters have only been experiencing *transmaxxing* content and still have no idea what transgender actually means?AS PROMISED ("LINK IN BILE")Jaxx (influencer Laura was mentioning): @perdurabo (TikTok)Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from Lady and the Trans Podcast. Where does the concept of narcissism come from? What causes it? Is there a genetic component? Can people with NPD be 'cured'?Chloe dug into the research and read all the studies and has an alternate take on how it all fits together. Facts like, "there is no single unifying factor that defines all narcissists," or "the only proof that we have that there is a genetic component comes from a self-report mail-in survey on child twins" are just the tip of the iceberg as we explore everything that the psychology community currently knows and understands about what is currently classified as a Personality Disorder.IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are the type of person who has dated a narcissist for a long time because you believe you can 'cure' them, or because you have empathy for their situation and 'understand' why they are the way that they are--NARCISSISM is REAL, and there are a lot of narcissists who learn how to fake healing so that you will stay and continue to give them supply. Do not take this episode as a reason not to leave an abusive situation or a situation that causes you distress. While on a big-picture scale, we may not know very much about the personality disorder, we are also nowhere near a 'cure,' because that might literally require rebuilding society from the ground up. I don't think this was made clear enough in the episode.Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from Lady and the Trans Podcast. In a world that treats sex workers as shameful gold-diggers or heathens, we're taking a different approach and viewing it as what it is: a job. Laura shares her experience over the last decade as a stripper - the reason she got into it in the first place, the benefits, and some of the darker side of the job. We aim only to speak honestly, and to recognize that a job is a job, and no one deserves to be treated as less than a person because of what they need to do to survive.Like, subscribe, and leave us a review for more from Lady and the Trans Podcast.
