This episode is a bit all over the place in the very best way. We talk about Christian’s experience in her Oxford interview, have LOTS of audio troubles (that hopefully you don’t hear), and laugh a whole lot! We also took turns coaching each other, which will become a regular segment. Christian helped Dusty overcome some mindset blocks around writing and making the time to write, and Dusty coached Christina through launching her writing course, Pick Up Your Sword, and building out an offer ecosystem. We hope you enjoy this one!JOIN US ON SUBSTACK: Christina & Dusty ShowCONNECT WITH CHRISTINA:Website | Battle Cry on Substack | Magic Like This Podcast | Pick Up Your Sword (writing course) | Swordsmanship (Free punctuation course)CONNECT WITH DUSTY:Website | Voice Memos Podcast | Instagram | Substack | Free Action PlannerLISTEN ON: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | SubstackCHAPTERS:00:00 Early Morning Musings02:56 Oxford Journey Update05:46 The Rollercoaster of Acceptance11:41 Surrendering to New Paths17:35 Coaching Session Insights21:48 The Oxford Comma Debate24:32 Teaching Punctuation with Passion27:49 Building an Engaging Email Course30:39 Navigating Email Marketing Strategies33:37 Planning for Future Launches36:47 Creating a Sustainable Content Ecosystem37:45 Streamlining Email Launch Strategies40:37 Understanding Audience Segmentation43:40 Nurturing Your Audience Beyond Launches46:32 Creating Effective Nurture Sequences49:42 Integrating Marketing with Personal Connection52:33 Optimizing Confirmation Pages and User Journey55:29 Leveraging Audience Insights for Better Engagement01:09:31 Curiosity Over Judgment: A Ted Lasso Philosophy01:10:43 Intentional Marketing: Meeting People Where They Are01:11:44 The Power of Authentic Writing: Essays vs. Notes01:14:00 Finding Your Voice: The Intersection of Business and Faith01:17:29 Breaking Free from Formulaic Writing01:22:07 Navigating Micro Communities in Content Creation01:26:06 Experimentation and Authenticity on Substack01:30:32 Developing a Regular Writing Habit01:38:10 Balancing Practicality and Creativity in Writing01:40:27 Navigating the Intersection of Faith and Business01:43:22 The Creative Process: Writing for Joy and Exploration01:49:42 Embracing Creativity as Worship01:56:19 The Role of Art in Spiritual Connection02:04:50 Finding Balance Between Creation and Productivity This is a public episode. We have both always wanted to go to Bible college. Aaaaand we’ve both always wanted to write books. But Dusty was the one constantly pursuing Biblical training, and Christina was the one who got an MA in Creative Writing. We for sure thought Dusty would go to Bible college first and that Christina would be the first one to get a literary agent. But that’s not how it happened.Within weeks of each other, Christina realised that God was calling her back to university — specifically seminary at Oxford. And around that same time, Dusty got approached by a literary agent and asked whether she wanted to write a book.Needless to say, we both have a LOT of thoughts about that. And in this episode, we unpack a few of them, like…* Trusting God’s timing.* Navigating jealousy while ALSO being happy for your friend.* Making sense of why God does things differently than we might expect. This was a wild one, guys. We hope you enjoy the ride.Connect with us:Christina’s website:https://christinalynnwallace.comDusty’s website:https://dustyhegge.comEnrol in Christina’s writing course if you’ve been longing to write a book: https://christinalynnwallace.com/courseGet Christina’s free punctuation mark course that she waffles on about: https://christinalynnwallace.com/swordsmanshipConnect with Christina on Substack: https://christinalynnwallace.substack.comThe Waffler (Christina’s private podcast): https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/podcastConnect with Christina on Instagram: https://instagram.com/christinalynnwallaceJoin the waitlist for Dusty’s Percolator Group Coaching Programme: https://dustyhegge.com/percolatorGrab Dusty’s uh-mazing strategic plan audio course, Grounded: https://dustyhegge.com/strategyDusty’s podcast, Voice Memos from Dusty: https://voicememosfromdusty.substack.com/Connect with Dusty on Substack: https://dustyhegge.substack.com/Connect with Dusty on Instagram: https://instagram.com/dustyhegge This is a public episode. Welcome to Part 2 of a real honest talk about discernment, spiritual warfare, and what it looks like to get things wrong sometimes. Listen to Part 1 here. In the aftermath of Christina’s viral Enneagram essay, her and Dusty look at what it actually means to employ discernment — especially when landing on the “right answer” isn’t straightforward. So after a long story made much longer, we wanted to ask these questions:* What actually IS discernment?* Are there ways to grow in discernment?* Are there ways to test when we’ve gotten it wrong?* Does God withhold certain truths from us until the time is right?* And how do we “know” if we truly “know” something?Mentioned in this episode:Original essay on the Enneagram: https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/p/the-truth-about-the-enneagram-thatFollow-up essay on the Enneagram: https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/p/was-i-wrong-about-the-enneagram-theConnect with us:Christina’s website:https://christinalynnwallace.comDusty’s website:https://dustyhegge.comEnrol in Christina’s writing course if you’ve been longing to write a book: https://christinalynnwallace.com/courseGet Christina’s free punctuation mark course that she waffles on about: https://christinalynnwallace.com/swordsmanshipConnect with Christina on Substack: https://christinalynnwallace.substack.comThe Waffler (Christina’s private podcast): https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/podcastConnect with Christina on Instagram: https://instagram.com/christinalynnwallaceJoin the waitlist for Dusty’s Percolator Group Coaching Programme: https://dustyhegge.com/percolatorGrab Dusty’s uh-mazing strategic plan audio course, Grounded: https://dustyhegge.com/strategyDusty’s podcast, Voice Memos from Dusty: https://voicememosfromdusty.substack.com/Connect with Dusty on Substack: https://dustyhegge.substack.com/Connect with Dusty on Instagram: https://instagram.com/dustyhegge This is a public episode. Welcome to Part 1 (you can listen to Part 2 here) of a real honest talk about discernment, spiritual warfare, and what it looks like to get things wrong sometimes. Christina went viral in March for an essay she NEVER expected to write: a pretty a pretty hot take on a topic that gets Christians on both sides of the argument pretty worked up. And it threw the concept of discernment into a whole new light. So after a long story made much longer, we wanted to ask these questions:* What actually IS discernment?* Are there ways to grow in discernment?* Are there ways to test when we’ve gotten it wrong?* Does God withhold certain truths from us until the time is right?* And how do we “know” if we truly “know” something?Mentioned in this episode:Essay on the Enneagram: https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/p/the-truth-about-the-enneagram-that?r=2rh35tConnect with us:Christina’s website: https://christinalynnwallace.comDusty’s website: https://dustyhegge.comEnrol in Christina’s writing course if you’ve been longing to write a book: https://christinalynnwallace.com/courseGet Christina’s free punctuation mark course that she waffles on about: https://christinalynnwallace.com/swordsmanshipConnect with Christina on Substack: https://christinalynnwallace.substack.comThe Waffler (Christina’s private podcast): https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/podcastConnect with Christina on Instagram: https://instagram.com/christinalynnwallaceJoin the waitlist for Dusty’s Percolator Group Coaching Programme: https://dustyhegge.com/percolatorGrab Dusty’s uh-mazing strategic plan audio course, Grounded: https://dustyhegge.com/strategyDusty’s podcast, Voice Memos from Dusty: https://voicememosfromdusty.substack.com/Connect with Dusty on Substack: https://dustyhegge.substack.com/Connect with Dusty on Instagram: https://instagram.com/dustyhegge This is a public episode. When you spend ages working on something, you launch it, and you log onto Instagram… to see someone else doing the EXACT same thing. *cue facepalm*In this episode, we talk about battling imposter syndrome and scarcity mindset by grounding our theology in God’s abundance and clarifying what we ACTUALLY mean when we say we’ve been “called” to do something.Welcome to today’s long story made MUCH longer with Christina & Dusty.Connect with us:Christina’s website: https://christinalynnwallace.comDusty’s website: https://dustyhegge.comEnrol in Christina’s writing course if you’ve been longing to write a book: https://christinalynnwallace.com/courseGet Christina’s free punctuation mark course that she waffles on about: https://christinalynnwallace.com/swordsmanshipThe Waffler (Christina’s private podcast): https://christinalynnwallace.substack.com/podcastConnect with Christina on Substack: https://substack.com/@christinalynnwallaceConnect with Christina on Instagram: https://instagram.com/christinalynnwallaceJoin the waitlist for Dusty’s Percolator Group Coaching Programme: https://dustyhegge.com/percolatorGrab Dusty’s uh-mazing strategic plan audio course, Grounded: https://dustyhegge.com/strategyDusty’s podcast, Voice Memos from Dusty: https://voicememosfromdusty.substack.comConnect with Dusty on Substack: https://substack.com/@dustyheggeConnect with Dusty on Instagram: https://instagram.com/dustyhegge This is a public episode. In their typical long-winded fashion, Christina & Dusty kick off their podcast by exploring why so many Christians struggle to read their Bible — and why it's so important to approach Scripture with joy and intentionality. They also look at practical tips for creating a Bible-habit that feels less heavy and more fun!Tips for reviving a Bible-reading habit:1. If Bible-reading is feeling like a chore, get curious as to why. Are you forcing yourself to read in a way that doesn't actually suit how your brain works? Can you give yourself permission to approach the Scriptures in a way which feels more natural to you?2. If you're a long-time Christian and your Bible has started to feel a bit boring, can you start approaching it in a new, fresh way? Maybe with a new translation, reading a new commentary, or by listening to it as a narration rather than reading it?3. Ask God to help you have FUN with it!4. If you're coming to Scripture for the first time, approach it from a high-level overview, reading through the whole Bible in a chronological before diving in to deeper, verse-by-verse studies. And take your time with it! If it takes you 2 years, that's 100% okay!Show note resources:Connect with Christina: https://christinalynnwallace.comConnect with Dusty: https://dustyhegge.comHebrews 4:12: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%204%3A12&version=NIVFix your Eyes by Amy Gannett: https://amygannett.com/fix-your-eyes-2/The Weight of Glory by C.S. Welcome to The Christina & Dusty Show, where two long-winded ladies tell long stories much longer (but always with an adorably quirky flare) for the purpose of modelling what it looks like to follow Jesus messily and joyfully through the gift of friendship. Christina & Dusty are both writers, creatives, wives, business-owners, and Bible enthusiasts who are passionate about living out their faith in a practical, thoughtful, but not-so-heavy sort of way. This trailer episode gives you a little intro into the heart behind the podcast (spoiler alert: we’ve been ideating on this for 6 years) and what you can expect as a fly on the wall in our don’t-know-how-to-take-a-breath conversations. We’re honestly so glad you’re here!Connect with usYou can find Dusty on Instagram, Substack, and her website, https://dustyhegge.comYou can find Christina on Instagram, Substack, and her website, https://christinalynnwallace.com This is a public episode.
