Liberation in the external sense means escaping – getting away from the thing that you’re enslaved to, whether it be a relationship, a job, a situation, whatever. But spiritual liberation is the exact opposite, because it’s getting free from the need for things to be other than the way they are. In other words, it’s getting free from your emotional resistance to whatever you’re experiencing in the moment.
In order to do that, you have to consciously be with whatever is present on purpose – even if this means being with the thing you feel enslaved by, rather than the normal thing, which is trying to escape from it. Because when we do that we can transcend our identification with those feelings of wanting to get away, and actualize the power of awareness to be with whatever arises, and not get pushed around by it. This is meditation.
But do that, we need to hear the silent call behind all experience. This is the inner message of the Torah portion Parshat Vayikra which you’ll experience with a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter Aleph, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.
Opening song Hashkiveinu and piano improvisation also by Brian Yosef. Hashkiveinu is from the album Ayn Od by BRIAH, and features the vocals of Jeannette Ferber and Bon Singer, along with Sam “Shmully” Markewich on drums, Joshua Miele on bass, and Lior Tzarfaty on guitar.

The Divine Presence is not something abstract. You can sense it directly by simply offering your attention to this moment as it is in all its fullness – in its beauty and ugliness, in its order and chaos. This is because the Divine Presence is not something other than your own attention, your own awareness, hearing these words right now.
Knowing this for yourself experientially is called spiritual awakening. Get practical instruction in awakening through the Torah portion Parshat Ki Tisa, followed by a guided meditation based on the sefirah of Hod on the Tree of Life, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

To create inner space, you need to first bring awareness to whatever mental noise and emotional pain are cluttering up that space; the awareness transmutes the clutter. And what is awareness? Is it not the consciousness of Reality Itself, waking up in the universe through your nervous system? In other words, God? Create an inner temple and heal emotional pain through Parshat Terumah and a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter Koof, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

There’s a huge difference between dabbling in different practices and actually making a home of your spiritual life in a solid tradition. And while dabbling might seem more freeing, there is a much deeper freedom that comes from giving up the seeking, and coming home to your essence within a committed community and practice. But to do that, you need to awaken that level of your being that longs to come home, that isn’t seduced by superficial freedom, and that is ready to make a commitment.
In this episode of the Torah of Awakening Jewish Meditation Podcast, we’ll practice connecting on this level through Parshat Mishpatim, followed a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter Tzaddi, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

If you search yourself, you can look everywhere and never find yourself, because of course, it’s your “self” that’s doing the looking. And, when you do find yourself as the one who is looking, meaning, when you find out that you are the field of awareness within which this moment arises, there is a tremendous relief and unburdening – this is Jewish Meditation.
In this episode of the Torah of Awakening Jewish Meditation Podcast, you’ll get a taste of this freedom through Parshat Yitro, followed a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter reish, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks. Opening song Hashkiveinu and piano improvisation also by Brian Yosef.

The role of spiritual teacher is to remind you of your Divine potential, and then to show you the way to actualize that potential. In this episode of the Torah of Awakening Jewish Meditation Podcast, we’ll look at an amazing verse which accomplishes both of these things from parshat Vaera, followed a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter Ayin, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks. Opening song "Hashkiveinu" and piano improvisation also by Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

When God is tells Moses to free the Israelites from Egypt, Moses resists: “I can’t do it - send somebody else!” God responds, Anokhi Ehyeh – “I will be with you.” And a bit earlier, when Moses asks God’s Name, the reply is the same: Ehyeh – “I Will Be.” In other words, God is Being. God is not a being, not even the most supreme being, but Being Itself. M’lo khol ha-aretz k’vodo – “the whole world is filled with Divine Presence” – because God is the inner beingness or isness of everything.
You can know this for yourself by shifting your attention away from thought and into Presence; this is meditation. How do you do it? Find out in this episode of the Torah of Awakening Jewish Meditation Podcast on Parshat Sh’mot, with a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter ט TET, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

What does it mean to be present, and how do you do it? In the Torah portion, Parshat Miketz, Yosef gives us a map for our journey into the space of the present moment. In this space, effort drops away - we can stop trying to be present—and allow Presence to reveal itself. How do you do that?
That’s what we explore in this episode of the Torah of Awakening Jewish Meditation Podcast on Parshat Miketz, with a guided meditation based on the Hebrew letter ע ayin, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks. Opening music is "Hashkiveinu" by Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks, performed by BRIAH from the album Ayn Od | Music for Shabbat.

Judaism recognizes the profound duality in being human: the ego vs. our Divine Essence. How do we overcome ego and choose our Divine Essence? To do that, you first have to become aware of your divine essence. But if you look for it, you won’t be able to find it. The trick is to look for the ego instead, because that which is aware of the ego, otherwise known as awareness, that awareness IS the divine essence. That’s why meditation works. How do you do it? Find out in this teaching on the Torah portion Parshat Toldot, and a guided meditation on the Hebrew letter, י YUD, with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

We tend to think of spirituality as just another thing on the to do list, like exercise or doing the laundry. And this CAN be helpful if it gets you to make meditation part of your routine. But when you’re actually meditating, you’re not just working on some aspect of your being, like your muscles or your mind; you’re getting to the root of the matter. When you clear away all the content of your life, what’s left? Who are you really, behind all the stuff going on your life, which really means behind all the stuff going on your mind. We’ll explore this through the Torah portion, Parshat Chayei Sara on this episode of the Torah of Awakening Jewish meditation podcast with Rabbi Brian Yosef Schachter-Brooks.

Spiritual awakening means transcending the ordinary problems, conflicts, and emotional dramas of life through an inner shift, whereby we disidentify from the "Me" made out of thoughts and feelings, or "ego," and know ourselves as the field of awareness at the ground all of experience – open, spacious, and free. You can do this by "welcoming" everything arising in your experience, moment to moment. This is the practice of the Hebrew letter ב BET, and we explore it through the Torah portion, Parshat Va’eira, followed by a guided meditation.
