Description

The Perfect Child Podcast is an invitation to Reimagine and Redefine parenting. We begin with the simple truth that our children are perfect. They are not empty vessels waiting to be filled. They are born whole and conscious beings possessing the wisdom of the Universe. They come with their own story and mission. Do we have open minds enough to listen and support their unique beingness?

May we find in these stories the courage to do things differently. To step out of line where necessary so that your own perfect child’s light is never dimmed. Compliance into a broken system is not an option. Allowing others of perceived authority to dictate your child’s experience is not an option. You've found this podcast because you're ready for something different. You know there's a more loving way to meet your child.

This is your village. Every guest is accessible to connect with for deeper work. We are redefining parenting as self work. We do the self work (to shed past traumas to deprogram from systems that have never served us) so that we can discern our own intuition and our child's Soul whispers from the naysayers, the scrutinizers and the moneymakers that keep us in a lower vibration of fear and disconnect. With these stories, we transmute and transform the status quo of parenting so that we all may honor the child before us - be it your own child, children you work with or your own inner child. We are your village.

In this conversation, Anne Underwood, a mom friend of mine, shares how knowing her children's Human Design types has really helped her to recognize the gifts in her children. And, in doing so, it also allowed her to see where cultural/societal programming and conditioning sometimes clouded her perceptions of "expectations" versus her child's natural tendencies. Knowing how her children are supposed to show up in the world, according to their unique blueprint, allows her to shed any programming in favor of supporting her children's natural gifts rather than trying to coerce them into conforming to perceived cultural/societal/generational "norms". In this fun conversation, Sunny Gault, a mom of four, shares how her intuition led her to want to step into self-directed learning for her two twin daughters. 2024 was their first year and they would consider it a success! As a parent, Sunny is always mindful to allow her children sovereignty over their own decisions so her two older boys have chosen to remain in conventional school. It is time...in fact, it is far past time to change the paradigm of education. In this conversation that I share with Leah McDermott, founder of Bridge Academy, she talks about how the fullness of just living life offers a rich array of experiences that enlivens the soul and offers the individual the inspiration and courage to invent and create. That is the essence of humanity. Have you ever wondered, why we send our kids to school? What does school offer that is imperative to learning and living? When, in your own life, have you used Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Calculus? Do humans only learn in institutional environments? Can you think of days where you and your child learned something new just by doing and being together? Certainly, in time spent with your child, you will have learned A LOT about your child. Connection. That is essentially ALL that matters in parenting; in living and all relationships. According to John Taylor Gatto: Schools were designed by Horace Mann and Barnard Sears and Harper of the University of Chicago and Thorndyke of Columbia Teachers College and some other men to be instruments of the scientific management of a mass population. Schools are intended to produce through the application of formulae, formulaic human beings whose behavior can be predicted and controlled. Is this what we want for our children? I'm thinking no. Be a catalyst to change the paradigm for yourself, your child, your community and future generations. Let this conversation spark your journey. Leah McDermott is leading this change and lighting the path for those that "believed everything in the system was true...but now are seeing that it isn't" and want support in breaking free. ** The study and book she references in the interview is "Wounded by School" by Kirsten Olsen ** Learn more about Bridge Academy here: www.bridgeacademy.us I want to express my gratitude to Jaya Lakshmi for lending me her song, “This is the Day” for our intro and outro. Your child is unique and so too will be their developmental milestones. How do we tune in? In this episode, Alison Elsberry of Embodied Brilliance shares a glimpse into her new guide, "The Truth About Developmental Milestones: A New Earth Guide to Nurture Your Child’s Bodily Freedom and Brilliance". This is a guide based on honoring individualized developmental milestones versus generalized timeline-based milestones which support and honor no one and actually causes stress and unfounded feelings of inadequacy. Definitely listen for Alison's gut-wrenching story about one of her experiences as a pediatric occupational therapist that actually set her on her current path of bringing Embodied Brilliance into the world. What does it mean to honor the Soul of a child? Is this a concept that we consider when we bring a new life into the world? In this conversation, Brianna Ladapo beautifully describes how homeschooling her children gives her the opportunity to really see her children and celebrate each one's unique gifts. She shares the contrast of seeing the light in her child's eyes diminish from time spent at conventional school versus the light and joy that innately blossoms forth from each child naturally when they are given the freedom to develop according to their own developmental timeline. What IS self-directed learning? Well, it's only just what animals and humans have been doing since the beginning of time...We get birthed and then we learn how to do things simply by watching, trying, practicing, modeling and doing what our elders did. Somehow...in 1850 someone decided compulsory schooling needed to be implemented and since then no one has thought to question why do we send our kids to school? What do they do there? What are they learning and why? What about life? In this wonderfully engaging conversation that I share with Bruce Gates, father of EIGHT self-directed children, Bruce shares so much about what is so inspiring about home education. He now is home educating his granddaughter! If you're one of those people who would turn your nose up at this and remark something like, "My kid needs to go to college." Well then tune in! At their own will, five of Bruce's kids went off to college, most started in community college by the time they were 16... What's become of them now? Here's a quick rundown according to their birth order: Bruce D. Gates - worked at Disney for 20+years, then recruited to consult for Deloitte Eric Gates - Self employed, real estate, dog walker, caregiver. Matthew Gates - Teaches English in Nagoya, Japan. Journeyman carpenter, UofO grad in language, Japanese. Ariel Gates - Certified chef, Portland School of Culinary Arts. Chenille Gates - Retired. Disabled, owns her home in Springfield, OR. Rainsong Gates - Self employed, service provider, caregiver, UofO grad, Ecology. Rhea Gates - Caregiver, UofO grad, Journalism Rhys Gates - Roseburg Lumber, admin, finance. UofO grad, Master, Business Shea Gates - OCCU credit union, Entrepreneur, UofO grad Business   References and resources: Bruce and his wife offer one-on-one coaching as well as workshops and books: mytaofarm.us I want to express my gratitude to Jaya Lakshmi for lending me her song, “This is the Day” for our intro and outro. What are the benefits of home educating our children? Mainly, more time spent with our most precious of beings. And, allowing them the freedom to CHOOSE what you and they would like to do with their time. The conventional systems set children up to become adults that suffer their consequences and environments, ie, bide their time until "work" is over. This is not the way. In this wonderfully uplifting conversation, Erin Brindley, mother of now four children shares her journey. How she and her husband heeded the whisper of their first-born child's soul and along the way, discovering so much more of herself. She shares how expansive and rewarding this journey has and continues to be as every step opens her up to endless possibilities as to how she can show up in the world. All in service to her children and, really, humanity as a whole. What a treat it was to be able to sit with Dayna Martin and have her share her stories of radical being in raising her four children who are now grown adults. Dayna truly exemplifies what it means to love our children well and raise them with the intention to allow them their complete freedoms. I found this to be a very refreshing conversation about how we can endeavor to show up in the world when we decide to have children. It's gonna take some work to deprogram from the systems and the ways in which we were raised, but the work is well worth it. "The Language of Betterarchy" is the title of Dani Katz's book, which I read and with which, I am totally obsessed. It is completely fathomable that our language absolutely creates our reality and with our awareness of the words we choose, we can absolutely shift our perceptions, our realities and the collective consciousness. I invite you to listen to this podcast with complete curiosity and a willingness to see where a shift in languaging can alter your current experiences if you are in need of a lift. More from Dani can be found here: www.danikatz.com If you enjoyed this interview, I invite you to like it, subscribe and of course, share it with your friends. The more people we can get to be aware of the words we choose, the better we can shift the collective consciousness from that of hierarchy and divisiveness to that of unity. In this conversation that I share with Suzy Miller, she really invites us to embrace that which is commonly outside of our learned perception. They say, “our children are our teachers” but in this conversation, Suzy clearly exemplifies that it doesn’t have to be our own children for us to learn from the brilliance within each child. We are innately omniscient and the children are here to help us remember. She shares stories of consciousness that requires us to believe in the unbelievable because, truly, hers is not the only story of these lived experiences. This conversation that I share with Whitney Tiller of Wildflower Lactation brings me so much joy! There are so many moments of yumminess as Whitney shares the most important tender moments of birthing - something that the industrial birthing complex overlooks which is a disservice to mothers, babies, and, frankly, humanity as a whole. The Golden Hour, as Whitney references, is the fourth stage of birth/labor and it is skin-to-skin contact directly after the baby has come out of the womb. It's best when it is immediately after, but even for adoptive parents, skin-to-skin is an important practice with your baby for bonding and if we're going to get woo-woo (which is a real thing), it creates a spiritual connection as well. We are all so much more than we know; and instead of having to remember what has been forgotten, our mission is to ensure our children grow up empowered in their sense of agency and sovereignty. Dr. Edith Ubuntu Chan and I talk about the Luminous beings that are under our stewardship and how we can best be of service. I think ALL children are Luminous Beings. This is exemplified in many of the ways we humans manifest. For instance, Dr. E shares her conscious conceptions and how being deeply attuned to her children, she becomes the conduit for change in service of our Luminous Little Humans. It is all within us. Never have I come across a description of what a child experiences through their senses when they come into this world. Until I picked up Brianna Ladapo’s book, "Emerging from Darkness: A Spiritual Memoir and Guide Back to the Light". Her description of the assault on her senses that she experienced as a young child brought me to tears. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to sit with Brianna to talk more in depth about how her childhood experiences have informed how she raises her own children and how she works with children. In this light-filled conversation, Brianna shares what it was like to be her experiencing these assaults and what we, as parents, can do to really meet our children exactly where they are at and move from a place that is child-centered and respects each child's unique expressions of their truth. In this interview with Stephen Spitalny, long time Waldorf Kindergarten teacher at the Santa Cruz Waldorf School and early childhood consultant, Stephen and I discuss the self work that is needed when we want to connect with the young child. I asked Stephen the following three questions: 1. Have you noticed a difference in the way children develop or in parenting now as compared with 10 years ago? 2. You have mentioned the three basic needs that all young children have: Safety, Contentment and Connection. Do you have any quick and easy advice for parents around these three needs? 3. Let's talk about non-judgmental parenting. What kind of inner work can adults be doing to best support the connection with their child(ren)? Stephen is a great resource for parents, caregivers and anyone else working with young children. How to connect with Stephen Spitalny: www.chamakanda.com www.chamakanda.blogspot.com I'd like to express my gratitude to Jaya Lakshmi for lending me her song, This is the Day, for the podcast intro and outro. In this riveting conversation, Dr. Paul Thomas, who may be the ONLY MD to have conducted a scientific study of his own patients (over 3000, over the course of 10 years) to determine the efficacy of >accines on overall health outcomes, shares his findings and his thoughts on why we are where we are with regards to pediatric “well-visits” and the overall western allopathic medical industrial complex. We ask the question - "How 'well' are these well-visits if at each one the still developing child is being injected with poisons? And, Dr. Paul shares caution around who we choose to “partner” with when it comes to the health and well-being of our children. We are in times where we cannot just blindly trust “professionals” and those with the white coats. I want to remind my listeners that Dr. Paul is basing his perspective on HIS OWN STUDY. Likely, no one that you invite to take charge of your child’s (or your own) health has ever sat down to actually, personally study the long-term effects of medication/pharmaceuticals. They only rely on “studies” that have been conducted or funded by the pharmaceutical companies themselves. As parents, we must exercise critical thinking and be hyper-vigilant about the medications that are recommended to us by people who have no clue about the long term effects and are not educated on learning about the whole being as a means for wellbeing. The findings from Dr. Paul's study can be found here. In this enlightening discussion, Alison Elsberry of Embodied Brilliance and I dive into the Psychology of a Label - what does it mean, how does it feel, energetically, when you are given a diagnosis of a label to describe your child? Just like a label in a shirt can produce a feeling of friction, the same happens when you/your child is given a label to describe them - ADD, ADHD, and the myriad alphabet soup that the systems have created. We discuss consent and permission. Alison shares with us about biological consciousness and we discuss how the systems monetize the biology of our children.  With so many children being given an alphabet soup of labels, this interview is an important one for all parents and those who plan to become parents one day. I'd like to express gratitude to Jaya Lakshmi for lending me her song "This is the Day" for our podcast intro and outro.  For more empowered content, please visit our YouTube and our website. In this heartwarming conversation with Becky Damgaard of The Autism Treatment Center of America, she shares with us the principles of the Son Rise Program. The same principles that Barry Neil Kaufman and his wife Samahria used to reverse their child's "severe autism diagnosis". It is clear that how we currently meet the children does not support them meeting their highest potential. The child is perfect and the child lets us know exactly what he/she needs. All we have to do is listen and LOVE. To deeply love our child so that we can step away from fear (when the doctor/therapist/specialist says "your child is severely autistic and you can expect to put him in a home by the time he's 18.") and step into Love and really seeing our child with curious eyes and a willingness to step inside their world.
