This week didn’t finish too strong with some Trainers in the Community. While Pinch Perfect and its rotating Timed Research was a blast, Kyurem Fusion Raid Day left a bad taste in some Trainers’ mouths. The inclusion of Reshiram and Zekrom in the Raid rotation hurt Trainers with less developed gameboards, as some reports saying that all the Raids in some rotations were not White or Black Kyurem, making the event fall flat until the opportunity arises to try it again during the next rotation. Adam brought up a great idea of putting Fusion Energy in Field Research for defeating Reshiram or Zekrom.
This week brings High Zaptitude and a double release. Wattrel and Shiny Tadbulb make their debut during the event, giving two different Pokémon to chase that are available in different ways. You’ll have to work to unlock Wattrel, as it is a Level 2 Reward of a Global Challenge, which confused some Trainers that didn’t read the fine print. In all, this is a solid double header and a fun Electric event.
Precious Pals and Precious Pals Taken Over will keep us busy in the week ahead, with Giovanni bringing Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus. We also have boosted Shinies for catching Goldeen, and hatching Espurr or Fidough. Make sure you remember to TM away Frustration before the event ends!
Weekly Challenges added matchmaking and a bigger invite list this week. With the leveling grind being so popular, Weekly Challenges are a great way to fast track to Forever Friends. The Challenges themselves however, pose little to no actual challenge for moderate to hardcore Trainers. We spitball some ideas of how this mechanic can be developed to provide a tougher challenge while targeting Trainers of different skill and dedication levels.
Finally we drop our top 5 gameplay loop lists and talk it through. From the Friendship Grind to Adam’s Max Battle obsession, we dig into what keeps us engaged with the game and coming back for more.

We are back from our holiday break and ready to get back on the grind! We hope everyone had a great end to 2025 and a positive outlook on 2026. From everyone at the Pokémon Professor Network, we hope you have the Happiest of New Years.
Trainers woke up this week to a major spawn point shuffle, with reports of house spawns updating from 10 to as few as 2. Keep in mind you will hear more about the bad stuff than the good, but there have also been reports of spawns increasing in other areas. Our best hunch is this could either have been influenced by an update to the game’s feed from Open Street Map or it is Niantic slash Scopely trying to influence where we play the game. We will have to pay attention to the community to find out if increases are to be found in parks and rural areas.Unfortunately, Niantic Support has been spreading some seemingly incorrect reasoning for the updates, which will only add to confusion and upset Trainers.
This week brings a new Dex entry with Klauf and a new Shiny with Dhelmise during the Pinch Perfect event. Field Research should keep you busy looking for the Win a Raid task which could bring you either of the two of the event’s featured Pokémon. This weekend is going to be great with Kyurem Fusion Raid Day. Thanks to GO Hub, we will run through the best counters for each of the four Raids from the event, with four separate Battle Parties, as well as a single party you can use for all of the Raids during the event.
The January GO Pass is here with the major reward being a Lucky Trinket. End Game Trainers may think it has a little less value, as the post 70 Lucky Friend grind is bringing Trainers multiple Lucky Friends a week. The total rewards as a whole still give the GO Pass great value, with the free version still providing some fun and consistent and daily gameplay.
We wrap up with a chat about some of our plans for the new year, including some IRL short form video and some travel for events. We can’t wait to roll things out soon!

Lured Up Podcast 376: A Ticket For Every Event
Live Streamed on - 12/16/25

The game is overrun with costume Pokémon which has to mean that the Holiday Season is upon us! Are you Team Sudowoodo or Team Charjabug? One thing is for sure, we know Adam will be out catching every Delibird he can find! With two weeks of Holiday events ahead of us, we start things off with a recap of the last week of gameplay including Well Armed, GMAX Snorlax, and Citi Safari events. With the Well Armed’s Global Challenges powering extra Candy XL for GMAX Snorlax, Trainers had good reason to get out there and grind over the last week.
The Holiday events kicked off this week and brought a GO Pass along with it, but the rewards may not be the strongest this time around. Will a Snom Beanie be enough to sell the GO Pass? We don’t think so but Trainers may be in it more for the process at this point. Part 2 of the Holiday Event picks up on Christmas Eve and brings back some past costume Pokémon as well as the debut of the Rolycoly line. The Winter Weekend mini-event opens the GO Pass progression up and adds a Timed Research as well.
While Niantic hasn’t shared the January Content Update yet, they are giving us plenty of event blogs to get us excited. Of course we will have a New Year’s event which will bring back some popular costume Pokémon and some fancy avatar boots to boot. Grookey has been announced as the first Community Day Pokémon of the new year, while Piplup will show up during Community Day Classic. If that wasn’t enough of a January preview for you, Kyurem Fusion Raid Day is also on the docket, which will will surely be a strong IRL and remote event.
We wrap things up with a discussion about the state of the game, and how even with some performance issues like crashes and dropped frames, the game overall is in a really good state. Trainers have tons of options of how to spend their game time, with multiple mechanics taking Trainers down different types of experiences. One thing we have noticed, is that with increased item and Pokémon storage available, inventory maintenance has become a long and monotonous task that takes up a lot of our valuable screen time.

Temperatures are dropping for Ken and Adam in the Northeast, but that isn’t stopping the game from keeping things hot! In the last week we journeyed to Paldea, recapped the year’s Community Day lineup, as we continue to grind through the GO Pass and the leveling update. The announcement of Forever Friends has rekindled old friendships and has remotivated Trainers to get back on the gifting grind.
This week also brings us the Well Armed event with the release of Clobbopus along with boosted Shiny rates for DMAX Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. Well Armed’s Global Challenges will be the perfect complement for GMAX Snorlax this weekend, as rewards include increased Candy XL from Max Battles. Niantic has been doing a great job with events supporting each other, and allowing for some great stacking of bonuses.
Forever Friends brings Remote Trading, which is a feature that Trainers never thought they would see. With a slick interface and a fair trading process, this will keep Best Friends engaged and interacting. Having a Prestige based leveling system will make Forever Friends earn their namesake, and worth keeping on your list. The Friends List will also be increasing from 450 to 650, rolled out in waves of 50. While there hasn’t been any announcement about increased gifting ability, the additional friends are still a huge win.
December still has a lot of fight left in it with the Winter Holiday events and Celestial Research Day coming soon. We also can’t forget about the City Safari events happening this weekend as well. It’s pretty wild to think how aggressive the pacing of the game is and how it keeps packing out the calendar. We also have confirmation on GO Fest locations, with the confirmation of Chicago and the announcement of Tokyo and Copenhagen.
We wrap things up with a conversation about remote play, and how Niantic has done a great job in rolling out remote features, without it having a big impact on IRL play. Smaller communities will still feel a sting if they lose 10-20% of their attendees, but the remote accessibility can at least make up for the gameplay elements, allowing the smaller groups to take down the tougher bosses. We wonder if there is anything left to add to the remote lineup, or if we have seen everything there is to be done already released!

It’s officially Delibird season and Adam already has a laser focus on the delivery Pokémon. He will have to wait a little longer, but there is plenty to do in the meantime, with December looking to be very strong. We kick things off with a recap of the last week of gameplay, which kept many Trainers very busy. Final Justice closed out Tales of Transformation, with DMAX Lugia Max Battle Day and Pikipek Community Day caring us right to the launch of Precious Paths.
With Precious Paths kicking off, we immediately see notice the shift in wild encounters as we are thrust right into the Journey to Paldea event. It brings the Nacli line to our Pokedex, and brings some pretty solid Three-Star Raids. Shadow Raids will be a focus for many this month, as Shadow Heatran slides in, whose typing and heavy DPS will make it very usable in PVE. Thanks to GO Hub and Pokébattler, we put together a little Raid guide and Battle Party, whoop-whoop.
We take a peek at the December Content Update and plot everything out on our Google Calendar. With no new Tier-Five or Mega Raid Bosses, we will let the events lead the charge. This upcoming weekend’s Community Day round-up will get things going as we wait for the two part Holiday event to come in a few weeks. A new month also means a new GO Pass, and the Timed Incubator returns, which will help out a lot of Trainers that need to hatch eggs to level up.
The Well Armed event and GO Tour details round out or event coverage and get us to our episode discussion. We take a look at what the ideal event would feel like. What types of gameplay would you like to see in an event, and what would keep you engaged? Do those desires change when playing in different geographies or with different size groups? Get in touch with us and keep the conversation going? What would make up your perfect Pokémon GO event?

As November comes to a close, the Tales of Transformation are not going quietly. With High Voltage keeping Trainers on the hunt for Shiny Morpeko, Dynamax Eevee brought Adam out for some serious grinding. There is something about DMAX Eevee that pushed a lot of Trainers to do a fair amount of them. We wonder how this will impact the release of GMAX Eevee, whenever that decides to debut.
Final Justice brings Resolute Form Keldeo as well as a $7.99 Masterwork Research. Without a story pushing the Research along, this really feels like a direct transaction for Shiny Keldeo. Is a little story too much to ask, or does the community at large simply not care about it at all? Longer tasks are fun to grind through, but they can feel someone one-note when all we are do is checking boxes and going through the motions.
The weekend brings us DMAX Lugia, which is coming to little fanfare. WIth regular Lugia and Shadow Lugia making appearances recently, the DMAX version seems a bit poorly timed. What we can hope for, is that DMAX Lugia is common during Pikipek Community Day, so groups will have an easier time taking it down, and won’t have to make both events into a full weekend affair.
Precious Paths is our next season, and the announcement trailer has us thinking. It shows Trainers adventuring along different paths, that feature PokéStops in locations that don’t appear to follow any inclusion rules. We don our special tin foil hats and inappropriately speculate on what this could possible be. While it is likely nothing, what if it was a type of deployable and temporary PokéStop. Let’s jump down the rabbit hole.

What an incredible month of gameplay we are getting. Since the level cap increase, the game and community have felt alive and well, with excitement, motivation, and dedication flowing all around us. We recap our last week of gameplay through Into The Wild, the Silver Bottlecap, and finally, with Wild Area:Global. Adam was able to make the most of his limited gameplay and Raided from the toilet, while Ken was able to get 16 hours of core gameplay in Red Bank and Philly.
The Community Celebration Event in Philly was incredible. It somehow captured the magic of a much larger IRL event like GO Fest, in a City Safari like setting. Niantic may really be on to something here, as these events capture the magic of a large event, while being powered by local communities, which sets a unique tone for the gameplay. Nearly 1,500 Trainers checked in on Campfire and Raid Trains packed with a few hundred Trainers were marching through the city for the entirety of the event.
A group of creators was able to meetup at the event to bring their individual styles of gameplay and content to the community. We take a look at each of the featured creators, and highly recommend you check them out and give them a follow. There is some real magic to be had when you combine core gameplay, and creators that like to get their hands dirty on the grind.
We have a few remaining events in November, with High Voltage keeping us busy until this weekend’s DMAX Eevee Max Battle Weekend. With Eevee only being Tier 2, most Trainers will have no problem taking it down. We hope you saved some Max Particles from Wild Area, because making sure you can evolve into the full line, you are going to need a fair amount of DMAX Eevee in your inventory. Don’t forget to take advantage of Trade Day on Sunday to help you fill in your missing Eeveelutions.

Pokémon GO has been treating Trainers pretty well since the Leveling update. Great events, new Pokémon and Shiny releases all delivered in a balanced and manageable cadence. We recap how great the events have been with the Halloween double feature, then Enchanted Hollow, and now Into The Wild. Things have been cooking, and the gameplay has been great, all leading up to GO Wild Area, which happened in Nagasaki, Japan last week and globally, this week.
The news cycle remains packed, with information on November and December Community Days, the debut of DMAX Eevee, and even the save-the-dates for next season. It seems that while the game and product teams may fumble sometimes, generally, the game has been feeling great.
This weekend brings us GO Wild Area: Global, and GO HUb has put together a really great event guide that touches on just about every corner of the two day event. It lays out strategies for everything from box maintenance to sunscreen.GMAX Grimsnarl will be on most Trainer’s radar during the event, so we put together a little MAX Battle Party for it.
Ken will be attending the Niantic Community Celebration on Sunday, November 16th in Philadelphia, along with a group of incredibly talented creators! Check out the flyer at LuredUp.com!
Our final discussion of the episode is about how Pokémon GO Communities can be a catalyst of community action. We talk about ways that even small communities can leverage Campfire and other tools to support those around them. Ken will be working with some great Community Ambassadors to host food drives to support the local community. Find Ken at the event to donate or learn how you can help!

The last two weeks of Pokémon GO gameplay have been in peak form! The level rebalance kicked off a reinvigoration of the community, and the game has come through with some great events to keep Trainers busy. We recap the Halloween event and how with new Pokémon, new Shinies, an amazing Sinistea Spotlight Hour and GMAX Garbodor, things are rocking and rolling. We also touch on how having a weekend off is actually a good thing, and helps Trainers recover from the onslaught of events that we have been used to recently.
November is upon us however, and there is a lot to look forward to. There is also a lot to spend money on as we stack up your options, including 2 GO Passes, a bunch of event tickets, and of course the GO Wild Area. Storage increases, consumables, and Raid Passes will be flowing over Global’s weekend, so it is best to go in prepared. Keep a lookout for deals and buy the bundles that fit your needs. Also, if you will be in the Philly area for Global, hit up Ken!
There were a few miscellaneous tidbits this week like the Nagasaki Poke Lid Stamp Rally and the Black Friday Sale. November seems to be a packed month but does actually have some empty weekends. Perhaps with the free time you may want to look ahead to Chicago, as there is plenty to plan for with GO Fest looming. With the diversity of Chicago’s downtown, you have vastly different environments available to stay in. Just remember, that there are over 50,000 Trainers thinking the same thing.

The two-part Halloween Event is just about a wrap, and we’re sure everyone’s storage is packed with costume Pokémon that need to be transferred. This year brought a nice blend of new and previously released costumes, the Shiny Hunt played perfectly into the Halloween spirit. Sinister Spotlight Hour was one of the most exciting in a long time, and it was a blast looking for Antique forms on top of the grind.
After having the rare weekend off last week, this weekend brings GMAX Garbodor which we will get you prepared for thanks to a Max Battle Guide and Battle Party. We take a look at GO Hub and Pokebattler and lay out our teams, with Ken going for defense and Adam on the attack. Let us know who you will be bringing to take on GMAX Garbodor and how you do with the event!
Looking out into November we have the Enchanted Hollow and Into the Wild Events on the calendar. November’s GO Pass brings back the Lucky Trinket, which seems to be the most popular reward to the Community. We suggest planning to do a lot of raids during Into the Wild, so you should start looking into boxes of passes now, and stay away from the impulse buys in the moment during the event.
The hot Community topic of the week is brought to you by all the silly Trainers online that are flexing their clearly manipulated Level 80 screenshots. Not only was the internet not impressed, but they were also foaming at the mouth with anger! We discuss the impact of how cheaters can influence motivation of even the most diehard content creators, and the trickle down effect it has on their audience. It’s a slippery slope but we love to see the passion. Here’s to hoping Niantic slash Scopely’s anti-cheat measures do their job!

Pokémon Trainers everywhere are torn between Legends Z-A on Switch and the Level 80 grind in Pokémon GO! Luckily for PGO Trainers, the Legends Z-A Event gave us some slight crossover to scratch the itch. It was Mega Rayquaza Raid Day however, that brought the Trainers out over the weekend. Communities everywhere were putting in big numbers to take down the Sky High Pokémon. With Raid numbers like we are seeing, we can only imagine what Mega Dragonite or Mega Mewtwo will do.
Spooky Season is officially here with the return of the Halloween Event, which brings a little bit of everything over the rest of the month. New Pokémon, new Shinies, and new Costumes will fill our inventories as we continue our push to the upper levels. We check in on our progress and share some best practices for some of the initial tasks to complete after Level 70.
We still have plenty of time in October, but we already have the November Content Update which of course includes the Wild Area. This event has proven to be exciting and a fantastic draw for Communities. We have a feeling that GMAX Grimmsnarl will keep us on the grind along with Shadow Darkrai. The Wild Area hype can only be bested by one thing, GO Fest hype.
The local Fox news affiliate in Chicago dropped a bombshell that Pokémon GO will be returning to Grant Park in 2026 with the option of 2027. We are VERY excited for this announcement as Grant Park provided an incredible backdrop for GO Fest, with great terrain, views, and a straightforward layout. The City Experience element will bring new experiences for Trainers, and we have plenty of time to prepare.

The wait for the Level 80 rebalance made October 15th one of the longest days ever. From little to no communication from Niantic, Trainers had no clear answer as to when the rebalance would happen. As the day went on patience grew thin, the anger started boiling over, and the crash outs began. Finally, at around 4pm ET the update launched and the community took a deep breath and focused on the path ahead.
The last week of gameplay included the Harvest Festival and Solosis Community Day, which gave Trainers some fun and varied gameplay. Mossy Lures covered the gameboard and the events and bonuses stacking made for an awesome Sunday. Even with the failed launch of Weekly Challenges, many Trainers had an awesome time playing over the weekend.
The Legends Z-A event hits this week, and the event is a bit lackluster. While it does bring a branching Timed Research, this event on paper seems to be a bit slower than what we have been used to lately. This weekend however, brings the return of Mega Rayquaza which will surely bring Trainers out. We look to Pokebattler and GO Hub to put together a Raid Guide and Battle Party.pro-tip, bring Ice.
We close things out with a discussion around November’s Into The WIld event. With an event ticket and it’s own GO Pass, it begs the question of how much is too much. The overlapping spending opportunities press our ability to say no, especially when the Silver Bottle Cap is part of the rewards for the Deluxe GO Pass. Let us know what you thing, not just about the amount of event tickets, but the newer trend of overlapping GO Passes, which may put some Trainers over budget.

It’s another news heavy week as Niantic continues to pump out blog after blog. With the last week including Mega Metagross and DMAX Duraludon, many Trainers had an active and busy weekend of gameplay and it doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon. This next week brings us the Harvest Festival, which if Trainers want to make the most of, will put the GO Plus+ on the back burner and require faces to be in front of screens. This is a great technique by Niantic to get Trainers re-engaged with focused gameplay.
GMAX Grimmsnarl has been announced for the GO Wild Area, as the event keeps getting stronger and stronger. This event has cemented its place in the annual major event lineup and is getting the features and releases to back that up. Hopefully we will see significant differentiation between it and other events like GO Fest or GO Tour. Perhaps they can deliver a unique experience via a GO Pass or Special Research.
We skim over a bunch of events that will arrive in the coming weeks, with the most notable being the return of Mega Rayquaza. This is one of those events that will have the hand of Eternatus reaching into Trainer’s pockets and urging them to Raid as much as possible. There aren’t too many Pokémon that will bring people out than Rayquaza. Still no word on if we will see any guaranteed Meteorites or how that will work this time around.
Wayfarer has detailed their 2025-2026 roadmap, and it looks to become a more personal tool. From monthly recognition emails to the mention of a new Wayfarer map, this is a great time to get involved. We discuss the incredible feeling of having a POI added to the game as well as the agony of defeat when things get rejected. Some Wayfinders consider Wayfarer its own game, and the roadmap is looking to support it with new tools and features. Make sure you check out the Wayspotters Podcast to learn more about how you can get involved!

When you think about it, this week was completely normal. Wake up, open the game, go to work, come home, go to bed, then repeat. The culture of routines that this game has created provide Trainers with the consistent backbone to their day. As Pokémon GO Trainers, we really do have a unique approach to how we game, with gameplay styles that are diverse and personalized. Being a current Pokémon GO Trainer is a great thing.
Mega Camerupt gave IRL Trainers the opportunity to have another day of grinding which could evolve into a Trade Day afterparty. With most events happening on Sundays, it lines up perfectly, but for next Saturday’s Meta Metagross Raid Day, we may see the first stand alone Trade Day Campfire events. We can’t hype up enough how awesome Trade Days are and how they managed to create a weekly event that pairs perfectly with off screen activities.
Looking at the October Calendar, we see a balanced month of events, new releases, and the return of the Halloween Event. Mega Metagross has been a long time coming so we put together a Battle Party and check out Pokebattler and GO Hub to review what counters to bring. Hopefully we see some fun and unique battle parties out there as the Counter list is exceptionally diverse. Let us know what you are bringing!
We wrap things up by spending a hypothetical $20 in the webstore and opening a conversation about spending in general. One thing the game does well is to tap into our emotions to influence spending, even when the purchase may not lead to what you want or expect. Impulsive behaviors, FOMO, and so many other factors play a role in how much and how often we spend. Does this give Trainers agency to be an individual, or does it drive Trainers apart? We dig in deep!

This week had a first with Scopely retweeting Pokémon GO which reminded Trainers that the Niantic acquisition was completed months ago. With the comments being somewhat tame so far, we inappropriately speculate on if we think the hyper passionate and emotional X mob will give Scopely a fair chance on social, or if the baton will be passed directly to them from Niantic. With the team members being the same, we know the same devs are still pushing the buttons. As for social, particularly NianticHelp, we are yet to see the names and branding flip to reflect Scopely. We know one thing for sure, we hope Scopely is ready to take on PGO social media.
We start with a recap of the last week of gameplay including the Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over and Shadow Groudon Raid Weekend. While the event pace has slowed down a bit, the Today View is more stacked than ever, with multiple Timed and Special Research stacking on top of each other.
With three upcoming weekends of Max Battle and Raid Days, we talk about what kind of value we get from DMAX vs Mega Pokémon. This week brings us Mega Camerupt, followed by DMAX Duraludon releasing along with its Shiny, followed up by Mega Metagross which has been a long time coming. With most Trainers having already invested in good IV Metagross, what appeals to you more: DMAX or Megas?
Large scale IRL events are in the news this week as City Safaris in Valencia and Amsterdam are happening this weekend, and a Save-The-Date post was shared for GO Tour. With both of these events having a unique presentation and feel, they compliment GO Fest events well, and promote travel, which is something we feel makes this game so special. No worries if you can’t travel, GO Tour Global will be happening one week after the in person event.
Finally we wrap up with a conversation about a topic that has been around for a while. Content creators being rude to the developer and claiming that it is constructive criticism. With so many ways to sway a community, and so many avenues as a creator to speak directly to the developer, we question why some on social media insist on slipping in a dig when commenting about the game.

The Concierge Event kept Trainers busy and having a good time with a fun encounter pool and Shiny hunts. If you haven’t watched Concierge on Netflix yet, it is something you should do ASAP. Pokémon GO deals with such a high volume of Pokémon, it is nice when animation reminds us that Pokémon have personalities.Having Flabébé Community Day over the weekend broke things up nicely, while the fan favorite Trade Day closed out the weekend.
The Psychic Spectacular is back and this time it has been Taken Over by Team GO Rocket. Perfect for Trainers trudging through Level 44, this may have been the shortest gap between Team GO Rocket events. We run through the event and dig in to the updated Shadow lineups from Grunts and Team Leaders. Rescuing Shadow Incarnate Form Tornadus should be on everyone’s list, and should be somewhat quick to complete as you can get a Super Rocket Radar from Research.
Shadow Groudon comes back to us this weekend so we put together a little Raid Guide and Battle Party to get you prepped. With some fun counters including Mega Evolution and Shadow Pokémon, we hope you have a sizable Raid Party that allows you to get creative with things. Some highlights from our parties include Ken bringing 3 Hundo Kyogres, with each of them being a little bit different, and Adam bringing Pokémon like Golisipod that may have never seen a Raid Battle to date!
While we do have some info on Mega Camerupt Raid Day and Solosis Community Day, we close things out with a conversation around game-life balance, and how it may take you being a bit creative to get the most gameplay in. We discuss ways to have the game be less invasive on your personal and professional lives, and how there is so much value in playing this game solo. Has the onslaught of events impacted the adventure aspect of this game? Perhaps it is up to the Trainer to revisit a more adventurous play style and get out there, even without an active event or group to meetup with.

We think Trainers had a lot more fun celebrating Kanto than they thought they would. With a diverse spawn pool, plenty of fan favorites, and some nice bonuses, it really was a good time. Last weekend we had Mega Sharpedo, which was surprisingly popular, bringing out strong numbers on the ground, with a good helping of Remote Raiders as well. It was a bit nice to only have a single 2-5pm event over the weekend, as it gave us time to recover, prep, and spend time with our families! We hope this is the pacing we see moving forward.
Trade Days may be one of the best incentives to IRL play that we have seen in a long time. Who knew that just adding an additional Lucky Trade would motivate people to reach the end of an event and want to keep the gameplay going with a trade session. We are major supporters of this new bonus, and think it will only grow in popularity as Communities build it into their meetup schedules. Nothing better than grabbing some food after an event, talking shop, and banging out 100 trades.
There is still a lot of September gameplay left this month with the return of the Psychic Spectacular, Shadow Groudon Raid Weekend and the newly announced Completely Normal event. Even though this Psychic Spectacular is a Taken Over event, the core event has been a staple on the Pokémon GO annual calendar for years. We take a close look at Niantic’s blog’s for the event over the last few years and how they have changed. From fully detailed spawn lists with images, to just a list, to a now, very shortened list, the community has feelings. For some it is a non-issue, but for others, they feel mistreated, almost assuming Niantic has some malicious intent in removing a few Pokémon from this list. Adam brings up a good point in how this game rarely if ever surprises us. Maybe this is a simple way to add some actual surprise in needing to adventure a bit to get the big picture.
Finally, we touch on how some quality of life and interface updates have upset some Trainers online, reminding us that some people will simply be upset at anything and everything.

Here is the scene… You are winding down towards the end of your Raid Day, walking down a hill with the remaining members of your Campfire. You reach the waterfront just as the sun is dropping below the horizon, lighting up the gameboard in an amber glow. Trainers are scattered about, and everyone is having an incredible time. Sounds like the best, right? We think so.
We kick things off with a recap of the last week, with another triple threat weekend. The Kanto Celebration has us smiling when Snorlax appears, as our weekend brings us Rookidee Community Day and Mega Gyarados Raid Day. The calendar fatigue has been real, and sometimes you need a hard reset. The repetitive nature we see in this game sometimes makes it easy to pick an event to sit out, or at least the event that will bring the least amount of FOMO.
Mega Sharpedo will debut this weekend, with a Raid Day that should be popular with the Community. Mega Raids can be done with fewer Trainers than some Legendaries, so Mega Raid Days can move quickly, offer high accessibility, and breathe new life into existing Pokémon already in our storage. Adam can brush off his multiple hundo Sharpedo and decide what to do with his squad of Hundo Carvana. The addition of Trade Days make any Sunday event more attractive, and something tells us there will be plenty of Shiny Mega Sharpedo trades going down.
We glaze over the remaining events of the month, as we have over a week until they arrive. Team GO Rocket is back with the Psychic Spectacular: Taken Over, which takes us into Shadow Groudon Raid Weekend. The pacing remains high, which pairs well when the community is feeling good. The September GO Pass however, has some Trainers feeling a bit left out.
Our final convo of the game is about player expectation, and how like the Timed Incubator, you get out what you put in. With Niantic slash Scopely putting more and more into IRL gameplay, the experience itself can sometimes outweigh the event. That is the lightning in a bottle. The experience behind community events, the magic that happens off screen, the friendships that we make along the way. All of these things create an environment that Trainers of all skill levels, ambitions, or financial investment can get behind. That environment is what some perspectives on line are lacking, as Community experiences aren’t created through paid tickets, rewards, or bonuses. The Campfire events are becoming the star of the show, and we are here for it.

The Max Finale has come and gone and shockingly, the Community is split over how they feel about the event! OK, maybe not so shockingly, but the event did have some ups and downs. This caused emotions to flare online, even though Trainers on the ground seemed to be having the times of their lives.
We knew with the lead in of Dark Skies that we had to come up with a game plan to maximize our gameplay. Do we spend the MP on the DMAX throughout the week, or do we hold back for the GMAX over the weekend. The GO Pass created a solid free to play foundation for Trainers to have agency over how they wanted to play, with the Finale itself feeling like a 16 hour long MAX Battle event. It only took about 1 or 2 Eternatus Max Battles for Trainers to figure out how they wanted their day to go, with the bulk of Trainers we interacted with, putting a low to zero priority on battling Eternatus.
That being said the other GMAX stole the show as spawns without a shiny boost felt a bit lackluster, even with the incredibly high spawn density. This was an Eternatus focused event, but oddly enough, for many Trainers, the Eternatus chase was over once they hit level 60 on their GO Pass. Only a small amount of Trainers were in for the long Eternatus haul, meaning not only an investment of money but also of time. Doing enough Battles to max out Eternatus could cost $200 or more. This caused the online community to sharpen their pitchforks, as the combo of FOMO and sunk cost fallacy collided.
Trainers on the ground seemed to have a blast, with Campfire meetups driving the train. Trainers had an incredible time and put in some serious distance while trekking throughout the event. It almost seemed like some were simply looking for an egg to throw, but to each their own right?
The Max Finale was only part of the news this week, as Season 20, Tales of Transformation was announced, along with a level rebalancing that will bring the max level all the way up to 80! The roller coaster of emotions and feelings is doing loops and we are here to make sense of it all.

GMAX Battle Update
Sunkissed Shores
The Max Finale is finally here and we can finally push through it so we can all rest, right? There is still no end in sight to the onslaught of events, even with the Max Finale at our doorstep. With next Season coming before you know it, and a new Pokémon release with its Shiny available on day one coming the day immediately following the Max Finale! This drum is getting as worn down as our endurance, with no end in sight.
Delightful Days: Taken Over and the Pokémon GO Worlds Event kept us very busy last week, with the welcomed and missed Giovanni loop. Shadow Kyogre Raid Weekend was a popular event, and luckily everything seemed to work properly. We would be lying if we didn’t hear a harsh lack of faith from the Community, with some feeling surprised there wasn’t an issue. Definitely not a good position for Niantic/Scopely wants to be in heading to the Max Finale.
Dark Skies will do it best to dry up your inventory of consumables prior to the Max Finale. We don’t want, however, to look past how much gameplay is available as F2P. We highly recommend having a plan and strategy to go after what you want, while working within the F2P bubble (to start) before worrying about how expensive the event “could” be.
With a non-stop barrage of DMAX and ultimately GMAX Pokémon to face, be sure to manage your MP rewards from the GO Pass and work timing to your advantage. Study the schedule and figure out when you want to attack and when you want to recover.100 person GMAX lobbies should make it a bit easier for in-person Communities to take things down, while also allowing remote Trainers to not constantly be hit with a full lobby when trying to get in.
We touch on Sunkissed Shores and the release of Shiny Dondozo, before inappropriately speculating on the future of the game. We talk about what we would like to see from the game and if this non-stop event pace is actually sustainable. What will be the first to fold? Our excitement, energy, or wallets? Let us know how you feel!
