In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment, Justin Peters interviews Jesse Westwood, a former Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry alumnus, about his years inside the Bethel movement and why he ultimately rejected its prophetic practices and claims of supernatural signs. They discuss modern prophecy, words of knowledge, treasure hunts, and sensational phenomena such as "gold dust" and "angel feathers," and examine these claims in light of Scripture. This conversation explains why normalizing false prophecy is spiritually dangerous, how a low view of God's Word harms people, and why the true work of the Holy Spirit centers on sanctification and gospel truth, not spectacle. Listeners are encouraged to test all things by Scripture, recover a proper fear of God, and rest in the sufficiency and final authority of God's Word. In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment, Justin Peters examines the sharp contrast between the biblical gospel and Roman Catholic teaching on salvation. Using a well-known interview between Ben Shapiro and Roman Catholic bishop Robert Barron as a starting point, Justin explains why appeals to conscience, sincerity, church councils, and cooperation with grace fail to present the saving gospel revealed in Scripture. This message carefully walks through key biblical texts to show that: • Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. • Jesus Christ is not a "privileged" way to heaven, but the only way. • Any gospel that mixes grace with works is a false gospel. • Scripture—not church tradition or councils—is the final authority. Key passages include John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 3:27–28, Romans 11:6, Galatians 1, and Hebrews 7. This episode is offered in love and concern for the souls of those who have been misled, and with a desire to bring clarity to one of the most important doctrines in the Christian faith. "There is salvation in no one else." (Acts 4:12) For more from Justin please visit his page at Servants of Grace: https://servantsofgrace.org/justin-peters-sound-theology/ This video first appeared at Justin's YouTube and is posted here with his permission: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoiuc2v9Kgo
As a new year begins, countless voices claim to have fresh prophetic insight about what God is about to do. Many offer predictions, promises, and personal revelations—yet Scripture calls God's people to test every claim by the Word of God. In this message, Justin Peters delivers a prophetic word for 2026 that is guaranteed to be accurate—because it comes directly from Scripture, not modern prophecy. This episode examines: • Why contemporary prophetic claims fail biblical scrutiny • God's sovereignty over time, nations, and rulers • The holiness, immutability, and truthfulness of God • What Scripture actually reveals about God's will for believers • Sanctification, suffering, and gratitude as marks of the Christian life • The sufficiency of Scripture for knowing God's will • A clear and faithful presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ God has already spoken. His Word is sufficient, authoritative, and unchanging—and it alone provides certainty for the year ahead. Scripture does not speculate. It declares. In this episode of Sound Theology & Biblical Discernment, Justin Peters interviews Jason Lisle of the Biblical Science Institute on scientific evidence that challenges the billions-of-years narrative and supports a young universe consistent with Scripture. Dr. Lisle examines multiple lines of observable evidence, including the internal heat of the giant planets, the decay of planetary magnetic fields, spiral galaxies and spiral wrapping, blue stars, comets and the Oort Cloud hypothesis, lunar recession, and recent findings from the James Webb Space Telescope. Throughout the discussion, scientific claims are evaluated through a biblical worldview that affirms God as Creator and the historical truthfulness of Genesis. This conversation encourages Christians to think clearly, biblically, and soberly about science, cosmology, and the age of the universe—without surrendering the authority of God's Word. In this episode of Sound Theology & Discernment, Justin Peters discusses the Legacy Standard Bible and its commitment to faithful, precise Bible translation. This conversation explores the origins of the LSB, its formal equivalence philosophy, and why accuracy, consistency, and transparency to the original biblical languages matter for preaching and teaching. Listeners will gain insight into key translation decisions, theological clarity, and why the Legacy Standard Bible serves as a valuable tool for serious Bible study and doctrinal discernment. Psalm 82 opens with the words, "God takes His stand in the congregation of God; He judges in the midst of the gods." What does that mean, and does it support Michael Heiser's "divine council" theology and the idea of many "gods" under one supreme God? In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment, I'm joined by my friend Fred Butler (Grace to You, Hip and Thigh) to walk through Michael Heiser's teaching on Psalm 82, Deuteronomy 32, Genesis 6, and related passages. We look at how Heiser uses liberal scholarship, ancient Near Eastern myth, and speculative ideas about "watchers," Nephilim, and "divine beings," and we compare all of it with clear, historic, biblical doctrine. Our aim is to help you understand Psalm 82 in its context, to see how Jesus uses it in John 10, and to warn against flirtations with theism, henotheism, and "little gods" language that echo Mormonism and Word of Faith theology. Above all, we want to encourage you not to exceed what is written, but to stand firmly on the sufficient, inerrant Word of God. Kirk Cameron recently stated that he no longer believes in eternal conscious torment and now holds to annihilationism the view that the wicked ultimately cease to exist rather than endure God's eternal judgment. In this episode of Sound Theology & Discernment, Justin Peters responds carefully and biblically, joined by Dr. Ed Romine. This is not an attack on Kirk Cameron. Instead, Justin and Ed walk through: • What annihilationism teaches. • Why the historic Christian church has affirmed eternal conscious punishment. • Key passages often used to defend annihilationism (Matthew 10:28, Matthew 25:46, Revelation 14, etc.). • Why emotional reasoning cannot override clear biblical teaching. • How diminishing hell inevitably diminishes the character of God. • The danger of adopting arguments that parallel cults such as Mormonism and the Jehovah's Witnesses. Justin and Ed also address the seriousness of sin, the justice and holiness of God, the resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked, and why eternal punishment is bound to God's nature not human logic.. The episode concludes with a clear gospel appeal, urging sinners to flee from the wrath to come and to trust in Christ, who bore the full fury of God's judgment for all who believe. "Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men." — 2 Corinthians 5:11 For more from Justin please visit his page at Servants of Grace: https://servantsofgrace.org/justin-peters-sound-theology/ This episode first appeared at Justin's YouTube and is posted here with his permission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00NpqyI-lGk
In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment, Justin Peters interviews Jim Osman and Dave Rich about their new book God Doesn't Try. Together they unpack why Scripture never presents God as "trying" to save, sanctify, speak, build His church, or provide—but as the sovereign Lord who actually accomplishes all He wills. This conversation covers: • Why saying "God is trying…" diminishes His sovereignty • How God's perfections mean He cannot fail • The comfort of God's providence in suffering and loss • Sanctification, holiness, and the danger of "carnal Christianity" • How Christ builds and organizes His church through qualified elders • Why a high view of God protects against false teaching and man-centered theology Clear, pastoral, and grounded in the authority of Scripture, this discussion calls believers to think rightly about God and find real rest in His sovereignty and goodness. In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment with Justin Peters, Justin provides a concise historical overview of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movement and evaluates its origins in light of Scripture. From early revival figures to modern "God's Generals," Justin examines their teachings, claims, and lifestyles with biblical clarity. Recorded October 19, 2025, this sermon from Justin Peters examines Roman Catholicism through the Five Solas of the Reformation: grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone, Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone. Drawing heavily from Romans, Galatians, and Hebrews, Justin contrasts imputed righteousness with sacramental/infused systems, addresses the Mass and purgatory, and offers a pastoral appeal to speak the truth in love to our Roman Catholic friends and family. Roman Catholicism claims to possess an unbroken line of papal authority, doctrinal stability, and the fullness of the Christian faith. Yet throughout history, popes have contradicted one another, added doctrines foreign to Scripture, and placed tradition alongside and at times above the Word of God. In this conversation, Justin Peters and Mike Gendron examine: ✅ The biblical and historical claims of the papacy ✅ Matthew 16:18 and the question of "the rock" ✅ The Council of Trent and Rome's response to the Reformation ✅ Justification by faith alone vs. Rome's sacramental system ✅ Purgatory, indulgences, and the Mass ✅ Marian dogmas and Rome's view of salvation ✅ Contemporary ecumenism and why clarity matters This episode is not an attack on individual Roman Catholics. Both Justin and Mike express sincere affection for Roman Catholics and desire to see them come to saving faith in Christ alone. Their critique is directed toward the system of Roman Catholicism, which Scripture warns has added to the gospel and stands in contradiction to the sufficiency of Christ's finished work. Scripture is clear: "There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." — 1 Timothy 2:5 "It is finished." — John 19:30 We invite you to weigh everything said in this episode against the unchanging Word of God. In this urgent and compassionate message, Justin Peters examines what may be Benny Hinn's cruelest false prophecy—his repeated predictions that Islam would disappear from Nigeria. Through careful biblical exposition, verifiable evidence, and historical clips, Justin demonstrates how false prophecy not only deceives millions but also brings reproach upon the name of Christ. Drawing from Deuteronomy 18:20–22 and Matthew 7:21–23, this episode exposes the devastating effects of false prophets and offers a clear biblical standard for discernment. Justin also shares a heartfelt appeal for repentance to those ensnared in deception, reminding us that Christ alone saves and that His Word is fully sufficient and trustworthy. ________________________________________ 📖 Scripture References • Deuteronomy 18:20–22 • Matthew 7:21–23 • Titus 1:9 • 1 John 4:1 ________________________________________ 🧭 Key Themes • Exposing Benny Hinn's false prophecies • Biblical discernment and testing prophets • The tragedy of spiritual exploitation • The growing persecution of Christians in Nigeria • The sufficiency and authority of God's Word. In this sobering and biblically grounded message, Justin Peters examines Mark Driscoll's repeated claims of receiving "visions" from God—some of which involve disturbing, unbiblical content. Justin exposes these assertions as blasphemous distortions of the Holy Spirit's work and calls the Church to renewed discernment rooted in Scripture alone. Through a careful walk through God's Word, Justin shows why these claims are incompatible with the sufficiency of Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16–17) and the biblical qualifications for pastoral ministry (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1). He reminds believers that we must "test the spirits to see whether they are from God" (1 John 4:1) and hold fast to the truth. Key Themes: – The danger of false claims of revelation – The authority and sufficiency of Scripture – Biblical discernment in evaluating teachers – A pastoral call to repentance and faith in Christ Scripture References: 1 John 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:21–22; 2 Timothy 3:16–17; Titus 1:5–9; Romans 16:17–18 Visit: https://servantsofgrace.org/justin-peters-sound-theology/
Pornography destroys lives—but there is real hope in Christ. In this powerful conversation, Justin Peters welcomes Emeal "E.Z." Zwayne (President of Living Waters) to discuss a biblical, practical battle plan for purity. They explore how the gospel transforms the fight against lust, why repentance goes deeper than behavior change, and how grace-driven disciplines empower believers to "walk by the Spirit." Deliverance ministries promise freedom from demons, but do they line up with the Word of God? In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment, Justin Peters is joined by Jim Osman and Chris Rosebrough to examine the claims of modern "demon slayers" such as Greg Locke, Alexander Pagani, Isaiah Saldivar, and others. Together, they offer a careful biblical critique of deliverance ministries, expose the dangers of false teaching, and point believers to the true freedom that comes through the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment, Justin Peters is joined by Pastor Gabe Hughes (WWUTT – When We Understand the Text) to examine the popular series The Chosen through the lens of Scripture. Together they address Dallas Jenkins' claim that Mormons and Christians "love the same Jesus," the Mormon and ecumenical influences behind the series, and troubling scenes such as the Sermon on the Mount "rehearsal" and the John 3 conversation with Nicodemus. This discussion also considers the larger issue of portraying Christ on film, why such portrayals distort rather than reveal Him, and why Christians must rest in the sufficiency of God's Word instead of the fads of evangelical entertainment. In light of recent tragedies, Justin Peters preaches a timely sermon on the sovereignty of God, the depravity of man, and the hope of the gospel. From senseless acts of violence to the weight of human suffering, Scripture gives us clear answers and ultimate hope. Drawing from texts such as Ephesians 1:11, Isaiah 46, Romans 8:28, and Job 38, Justin explains that God is absolutely sovereign over all things—good and evil—yet is never the author of sin. He also reminds us that every person is accountable before God and that only in Christ is there forgiveness and eternal hope. This message is both sobering and encouraging, calling us to rest in God's sovereignty, repent of our sin, and trust in Christ alone for salvation.
