Description

Hollywood, but make it real. Fun, authentic conversations with the people who make the stuff we love — and the friends I’ve been lucky enough to make along the way.

I’ve spent the past 20 years as a Hollywood producer having what’s known as “general meetings” — one-on-one sit-downs with actors, writers, and filmmakers. These personal and creative conversations have always been my favorite part of the job — the moments when the glossy version of Hollywood drops away and you connect with the real person across from you. So now, I’m bringing that to life as a podcast.

Each week on General Meeting with Becky Sloviter, I sit down with smart, funny, and talented friends — actors and writers who have made us laugh and cry, and filmmakers who inspire us — for real conversations about creativity, connection, and everything in between. My hope is that these chats will help us all feel a little more connected — and a little less alone.

Because we’re all going through it these days — but as the iconic Penny Lane says in my third favorite movie of all time: “Famous people are just more interesting.”

Welcome to General Meeting with Becky Sloviter.

For this week’s episode, Becky welcomes her friend, Oscar-nominated writer, acclaimed political comedian and actor Jena Friedman (The Daily Show, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm). Jena opens up about navigating comedy in these, um… turbulent times, and what inspired her to launch her new podcast with journalist Elise Hu, "The Epstein Files Book Club". They also dive into Jena’s brilliant 2025 TED Talk, “The Jokes AI Won’t Tell”, her experiences working with Jon Stewart and David Letterman, and why there’s truly nothing better than New Jersey at Christmastime.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
For Episode 25, Becky is joined by one of her favorite young screenwriters, Lacey Jeka (Gimme Danger, Phony). Lacey is one of the creative voices finding real momentum in Hollywood, recently making the leap from writer's assistant on Peacock's The Paper (the sister series to The Office—no big deal) to staff writer on a highly-anticipated new show premiering on Hulu later this year. She shares her journey from Florida to Los Angeles (by way of a decade in New York), and the inspiration behind her deeply personal, darkly comedic script born out of grieving the loss of her father. And of course, Becky and Lacey take more than a minute to pay homage to their queen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and the perfection that is Fleabag. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week, Becky sits down with one of the funniest human beings on the planet: actress and improv comedy queen Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones, Knives Out). Edi reflects on collaborating with Danny McBride to create her now-iconic portrayal of Judy Gemstone on their acclaimed HBO Max series, and shares how she discovered her love of performing while growing up in Texas. She also dives into the craft of improv comedy and the profound influence it's had on her life and career, but first Edi and Becky pay tribute to one of their heroes, the incomparable and iconic Catherine O’Hara.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
You don’t have to be from Philadelphia to enjoy this week's episode—but don’t say we didn’t warn you. This week, Becky is joined by her friend, the talented and hilarious actress Taylor Misiak (Going Dutch, Dave), who is both a rabid Eagles and Sixers fan (trust the process) AND a bona fide part-time resident of the City of Brotherly Love. Taylor talks about the incredible trajectory she's on right now, from starring opposite Denis Leary in the hit Fox sitcom “Going Dutch” to revealing a brand-new guest-starring role on one of the funniest shows on television—Philly-set, of course. She also fills Becky in on the connection she had to Lil Dicky before starring opposite him on his acclaimed F/X show “Dave”—and the very important person it brought into Taylor’s life—before they chat about the movie they worked on together (LET'S HAVE KIDS! of course) and can *finally* share its upcoming release date. As always, but especially this week: GO BIRDS!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week, Becky sits down with a true artist: filmmaker and documentarian Ry Russo-Young (Nuclear Family, Call Her Alex, BEFORE I FALL). Ry shares the backstory behind her deeply personal, Peabody-nominated documentary Nuclear Family—from the origins of the project to the complex, often therapeutic experience of making a film about the landmark legal case she found herself at the center of when she was just 9 years old. (This is mostly a spoiler-free conversation and Nuclear Family is available on HBO Max.) Ry is also an accomplished narrative filmmaker and reflects on her path—from her indie roots in New York City to making studio movies—and the creative influences that have shaped her work along the way.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
WHAT AN HONOR. For Episode 21, Becky is joined by an old friend—who just happens to be the filmmaker behind the biggest movie on the planet, Netflix’s THE RIP, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Writer/director Joe Carnahan (THE GREY, NARC, SMOKIN' ACES) sits down with Becky for his first interview following the film's huge opening weekend—and for their first in-person hang in over 20 years—breaking down the making of his latest propulsive, tense, and emotional thriller. The conversation also veers, inevitably, into Super Bowl talk, their shared love of MIDNIGHT RUN (we are who we are), and a little reminiscing about the old days. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Plus, Becky and Shawn bond over the shared lunacy of Boston and Philadelphia sports fans—and why they’re both strangely grateful for that specific brand of insanity.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The two reminisce about their experience making the 2020 romantic comedy with a sci-fi twist "Palm Springs" - from its record-breaking sale to Neon and Hulu at the Sundance Film Festival to the undeniable magic Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti brought to the film - and how a nod to "Jurassic Park" somehow makes its way into everything Andy creates.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
