New Bedford, Massachusetts, is famous for its busy fishing ports and rich history. But in the late 1980s, a massive wave of heroin and crack cocaine hit the city. With very little help available for drug addiction, many people found themselves trapped. Unfortunately, this made them easy targets for a dangerous killer. Between May 1988 and April 1989, several women, most of them mothers struggling with addiction, disappeared. Their bodies were later found dumped along local highways like Route 140 and Interstate 195. Even though police investigated several main suspects, including a local lawyer, the case was never solved and went cold. The cellphone was lying near Rachael Koloroutis. At 3:12 that afternoon, she had tried to call 911. But help never reached her in time.  It was the afternoon of July 18, 2003, and four young people in a comfortable suburban home near Houston were caught completely off guard. The television was still playing. Tiffany Rowell and Adelbert Sanchez were seated on the sofa and apparently never had time to stand. Investigators believed Rachael had answered the door and then attempted to run when the attack began.  Whoever entered that house had been welcomed inside. Then two guns opened fire. Twenty-one shots were fired in a matter of seconds. Seventeen struck their targets. Eighteen-year-old Tiffany Rowell never made it off the sofa. Neither did twenty-one-year-old Adelbert Sanchez. Nearby were Tiffany's nineteen-year-old boyfriend, Marcus Precella, and her close friend and roommate, eighteen-year-old Rachael Koloroutis. All four had been shot repeatedly. Marcus had also been struck in the head with a gun. But Rachael had survived the first barrage. Badly wounded, she had somehow begun moving toward her cellphone. She was still conscious. Still trying to summon help. Before she could finish the call, one of the attackers returned. Rachael knew the person standing over her. According to testimony, Rachael looked up at someone she had once considered a close friend and asked: Why are you doing this to me? There would be no answer. Little Devil: Christa Pike  On the evening of January 12, 1995, Christa Pike stepped into the room of her friend Kim Iloilo at the Knoxville Job Corps Center and casually announced that she, her boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp, their friend Shadolla Peterson, and Colleen Slemmer were heading out to smoke marijuana. The combination immediately struck Kim as odd. Christa hated Colleen. So why, suddenly, were they going anywhere together? When Kim questioned her, Christa simply smiled, winked, and walked away. A little more than two hours later, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Kim saw Christa, Tadaryl, and Shadolla return to the center. Colleen did not return.  What had happened during those missing hours would become one of the most brutal murder cases in Tennessee history and a pending execution that is slated to happen on September 30, 2026. If the execution happens this month, she will be the first woman executed by the state of Tennessee since 1820.
