Description
Vincent Williams and Len Webb have started an amazing journey to watch and review every African-American film released in theaters. Their passion project, the Micheaux Mission, honors Oscar Micheaux, a trailblazing Black filmmaker. Their enthusiasm and dedication are truly inspiring as they seek the perfect wine to pair with Pam Grier’s Coffy, find five movies since 1985 that don't feature Samuel L. Jackson, and connect with other film fans who share Len’s view on The Last Dragon. Their commitment to celebrating and examining African-American cinema is both commendable and uplifting. Welcome to the Mission!

Vincent and Len remember acting legend Robert Duvall and civil rights titan Jesse Jackson before tallying up the Wild Wild West Cowgirls versus The Star Treklettes of 60s TV. Were Queen Latifah and Mos Def distracting in Brown Sugar? What would Imitation Of Life look like today? Which Man of Micheaux will go Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon first? Is the blaxploitation western Boss Nigger really that good?

The Men of Micheaux share their feelings about a very special episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy dedicated to Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Plus, Len reveals a unique history with cat food and Vincent shows how he spent his money in college. Len gets in on the Six Degrees to a couple of famous Vincents and Lens. And -- is Neil Blomkamp's District 9 a Black film? Or is it just colored with Black themes? Court is in session.

The Men of Micheaux say goodbye to Demond Wilson of Sanford & Son fame (and, perhaps, a budding project of theirs), revealing that one of them might be a hater. A listener hits their comic book loving sweet spot by asking about an old Dr. J advertisement, and Len reveals the secret origin of his pretzel addiction. Then Six Degrees takes a strange turn around Miguel Nunez, and the Men unexpectedly agree on the virtues of the legendary Fred Williamson, aka that man Charley!

Is Ayo Edibiri (The Bear) the second coming of Whoopi Goldberg? Is Avery "Stayin' Alive" Brooks the cheat code for great Star Trek? Are there too many playas inside The Playuers Club? Does Lisa Raye have anything besides 'presence'? The Men of Micheaux have questions and answers.

The Men of Micheaux reminisce about their shared love of foundational anime staples of the 1970s, such as Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets. Then, after doing Six Degrees of D'Urvile to the legendary Lana Turner and the underused Juanita Moore, Vincent becomes perplexed by Len's out-of-the-blue DVD-versus-SDJ comparison. Finally, the Men review the 1959 remake of a classic tale that exceeds its reach aesthetically if not culturally.

Vincent and Len discuss the late T.K. Carter, finding previously unseen racism in their favorite movies, asshole comedians (or comedians’ assholes?), Bill Murray, Chris Rock, The Breakfast Club, and the un-passing hiding inside of 1949’s Pinky besides the film’s three Academy Award-nominated performances.

The Men of Micheaux debut their new home at Anga Studios, planting their flag (and feet) on new territory. Listeners, aka Missionaries, have the Men analyzing the careers of Gabrielle Union and Robin Williams (one is more meh than you think, and it ain't hers). Going Six Degrees of D'urville Martin to Z-actors Zach Galifianakis and Zazie Beetz lands the show in the lap of Chevy Chase (OUCH!), but the Men end things delighted by the tantalizingly funny ZOLA, featuring another tour-de-force performance by Micheaux Mission favorite Taylour Paige.

We bid a sentimental farewell to singer Carl "Bad Mama Jama" Carlton and director/activist Rob Reiner (and his wife Michele). The Missionaries ask Vincent and Len which genre of music has benefited most from the Black experience, then add more names to the list of Top Five Black villains. Vincent takes a Six Degrees journey to Anthony Franciosa and Gloria Hendry. Finally, the Men of Micheaux get into the holiday spirit with a blood-soaked crime drama featuring a catchy theme.

A listener challenges the Men of Micheaux to list their Top Five Black Villains in film, then Len presents a holiday-themed Top Five to a specific missionary in the audience. After going Six Degrees to Ben Kingsley and Liam Neeson, the feature movie review discusses the captivatingly tragic debut of Laurence Fishburne (THE Third!) in this 70s cinematic gem. The Men of Micheaux welcome friend-fan-professional geek Ariell Johnson of Len’s Secret Movie Podcast with Ariell to share their favorite comic book writers and artists, reveal the secret (?) Jermaine Jackson diss track, play a game of “who is Sienna Miller?”, and review a sentimental, charming film that features Whoopi Goldberg at her best and finest.

The Men of Micheaux bid a fond farewell to reggae legend Jimmy Cliff (1944-2025) and question his and others’ place in music history, which steers into the legacy of the Jacksons, and a requiem of sorts for Randy Jackson. Who should sing a song of Thanksgiving? Six Degrees of Two 2009 indie pictures lead directly into this black & white debut from LaLa Land’s Damien Chazelle. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
The Men of Micheaux share their thoughts on Netflix’s Being Eddie documentary and what it says (and doesn’t say) about Eddie Murphy. Vincent goes Six Degrees to two of his favorite British actors - Naomie Harris and Sophie Okonedo. And then they review a 2023 movie that may be the greatest rom-com of all time (when the subtitles are on).

The Men of Micheaux remember when Muhammad Ali beat the brakes off of Superman, and a listener has an addendum for It’s a Black Black Black Black World. The Men also pitch a new Rewatch podcast for the culture. Vincent goes Six Degrees of D’urville to actors John Hurt and Rachel Weisz. And Barry Jenkins makes a hell of a debut in 2008’s Medicine For Melancholy.

The Men of Micheaux discover actor Sally Kirkland is doing well and making new movies. Len has a mini-review of Predator: Badlands. A listener throws catnip at one of the Men by asking them to Black-cast the 1963 classic "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." Then a month of l'amour kicks off with a review of the 200o HBO adaptation of Terry McMillian's Disappearing Acts, featuring the incredible chemistry of Wesley Snipes and Sanaa Lathan and the knowing direction of Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Vincent teaches Len an important Halloween candy in time. Then Len reveals the Top Five of horrible Horror Mothers to Vincent. Vincent then tries to connect D'urville Martin to two legends from Len's collection of "Ol' Timey Actors" — David Niven and Joan Crawford. Finally, the Men of Micheaux relive the goofy, eerie lesson of Oscar winners Octavia Spencer and Alison Janney in 2019's Blumhouse cult sweetheart.

Artist/Podcaster Wi-Moto Nyoka (Black Women Are Scary) steps onto the Mission with memories of podcasts as intimate affairs for the ears, not the eyes. A listener asks for Len's reaction to The Last Dragon returning to theaters for its 40th-anniversary run, and Len responds. The Men of Micheaux and Wi-Moto share their ideas for original horror films of their own and then review the "werewolf drama" that's one part Brazil, one part France, one part Portuguese, and all parts intense.

The Mission remembers 21st-Century soul legend D’Angelo (and actress Diane Keaton), and Len makes Vincent think about 70s TV-film actress Sally Kirkland (The Sting, JFK) in Six Degrees— because somebody has to. Then, The Men share their thoughts on writer/director Anu Valia’s We Strangers, aka “Not A Horror Movie.”

Vincent and Len remember voice actress Kimberly Gregory, which leads to high praise for Craig of the Creek. Then, they debate which movie franchises should 'give it up' after they watch Tron: Ares. Then a listener challenges the hosts to recast the 80s Whoopi classic Jumpin' Jack Flash before connecting D'urville Martin to two legendary film monsters and reviewing the Frankenstein reimagining told from the perspective of a determined, intelligent, and angry Black girl.

Cartoonist Ben Passmore (BTTM FDRS) shares his moment of activation into anarchy and connects it to his new graphic novel, Black Arms To Hold You Up. That seamlessly leads into a review of the compelling 2017 documentary about life in Ferguson during the BLM movement. Vincent explores Six Degrees of separation within the career of 'the white guy in Enter The Dragon,' and Ben and The Men use Silver Convention's Fly Robin Fly to soundtrack a movie.
