Description
How do I overcome the FEAR that it's too late to chase a dream? How do I get out of being STUCK in perfectionism, worrying that people will judge me, and being caught up in comparison and self doubt? How do I stay motivated and stop procrastinating out of fear of failure, always feeling unprepared and unqualified before I even begin? How do I prioritize and start making consistent progress on my goals and dreams with highly successful habits, discipline, and focus? And the biggest question of all, how do I OWN my muddy story with bravery, courage, conviction and faith?
If you have ever asked yourself these questions, take a deep breath, because you're in the right place.
Welcome to the Mary Marantz Show. Where we answer ALL those questions and more! A space to own the muddy parts of your story, build things that matter, and where slow growth always equals strong roots.
Listen in each week as host, Mary Marantz, brings you honest conversations and her best tips about business, relationships, faith, goals & more... where we feel the fear and move forward anyway.
Along with serving her best business and life tips, you'll also hear motivating interviews from some of the best in the industry - authors, speakers, leaders, and entrepreneurs like Natalie Franke, Jess Connolly, Jessica Honegger and more– to bring you one step closer to your goals.
You'll learn business strategies to more effectively serve your audience, receive inspiration to dig deeper and find freedom in relationships, and learn how to build a legacy that lasts.
You're here and you have scars. You're here and you have dirt in your story. You're here and you're afraid both of those disqualify you before you even start.
But you have a place here. Your story already matters.
Because one day, when we get to where it is we're going, it won't be despite these scars we bear. It will always be because of them.
Slow growth equals Strong roots.

Show Notes: In a world that often celebrates perfection, many of us grapple with feelings of inadequacy, rejection, and the longing for belonging. On the way to BIG dreams there are often tables we are never invited to, doors that close right in our faces, and we already know we will have to endure "no" after "no" before we finally get the YES that will change our lives. In this episode of the Mary Marantz Show, I had the honor of sitting down with Tabitha Panariso, author of "Loyal in His Love: An Invitation to be Held by Jesus When Others Let You Go." Together, we delve into the complexities of chasing approval, confronting perfectionism as an armor of protection, and embracing the beauty of our imperfect journeys that are always right on time. In this episode you'll discover: *How our unseen rejection wounds shape everything we believe *That we are operating under a currency of confirmation bias: What we look for, we find *What it looks like to grieve the story you WISH you had *Why "resistance" is a truth teller *All the ways we abandon ourselves *Why belonging is wired right into us as humans for survival *Why the solution to rejection might in fact be MORE rejection *What we get so very WRONG about "Rejection is Redirection" *The importance of secure attachment and reparenting *and SO much more!
This week on The SHOW UP Season of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary sits down with Shannan Martin, author of Counterweights: An Essential Practice for Holding Hope in a Heavy World, to dive into showing up in the BOTH/AND of life… holding on to both the beauty and the horror of the world with both hands. The two talk about the power of community and practical ways to carry hope amid chaos. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the heaviness of the world, this episode if for YOU! In this Episode, you'll hear: Why poet Rainer Maria Rilke once said, ""Life is very singularly made to surprise us...where it does not utterly appall us." What it means to "carry the cosmos" without slipping into carrying the weight of the world The counterintuitive Theory of Balance that tells us to carry something hard… carry something equally heavy in the other hand. Why Shannan doesn't believe in chasing traditional "life balance" but instead embraces a push/pull approach inspired by Chef David Chang's interplay of complex flavors How strange it can be to buy flowers in a world on FIRE The MANDATE for Joy Shannan prescribes us as necessary to continue fighting for the cause of humanity Why the parable of the scattered seeds in the Gospel of Mark went from a "me" story to an "US" story for Shannan The reminder from Shannan's son that Jesus is the "God on the Ground" and what we have to learn from that. ...and seriously SO much more!
In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary explains an A-ha moment that changed everything for her… this realization that nonchalance is really just a SNEAKY sub-genre of procrastination. Drawing from her time in law school, Mary talks about those times when she wanted to turn around and go back rather than face down the Socratic method. We do that, don't we? We get so afraid of failing, that we would rather not show up to our own lives at all present and accounted for... than risk showing up and getting it wrong. Than risk putting ourselves out there not knowing all the answers. So we swing to the OPPOSITE extreme. We still show up, but we pretend like we don't really care that much. Yea, yea… we're chasing that dream but if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. We begin to believe that if we reject the dream before it has a chance to reject us… then we'll never get our hearts broken. But all that ultimately leaves us with is… regret. Instead, we have to show up and have ZERO chill about the dreams we are building. That we GET to live a life like that. Even if that means we occasionally risk getting it wrong.
In this powerful episode of The Show Up Season of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary sits down with her dear friend, bestselling author and international speaker Antonio Neves, to talk about his latest book "The 1-Day Method: The Surprising Power of Winning One Day At a Time" and how it was born out of Antonio and his family losing their home and everything in it in the 2025 California wildfires. The two talk about how to stop living on autopilot, how to stop waiting on perfect to get started, and how to move forward one day at a time when life has put you in what feels like an impossible place. In this episode, you'll hear all about: * The Mathematics of Now: How most people get stuck in yesterday or tomorrow * What the Law of the Harvest has to do with how Chess Masters approach each tournament * Why your character KNOWS when you cut corners * How to WIN each day (which becomes your week, month and year) * The Power of doing LESS than we're capable of * Defining what will make this day MATTER * How we have to be counter-cultural to the complexity of these so-called "modern conveniences" *The PHYSICS of focus: your mind carries infinite possibilty but finite energy * The transformative power of closing loops * Why analog is the NEW luxury * … and SO much more!
In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary tells us to SHOW UP and DO the WORK. Drawing on a recent Peloton ride where instructor Robin Arzon said "Your character knows when you cut corners," Mary does a deep dive into the cost of orginality, dealing with copycats & plagiarism, and what we get so very WRONG about "there is nothing new under the sun." From there she builds into the TWO RULES she learned in academia (law school in particular) to create original work: 1) You have to survey the landscape to see what has already been said and then 2) You have to move the conversation forward in meaninful way. Mary points to Harrison Ford's recent acceptance speech at his Lifetime Achievement Award at The SAG Actors and how he tells us how lucky he feels to STILL be doing the work over fifty years later. MOST people cut corners because they think it will get them to the goal faster. But it turns out the work IS the goal. The work is how we become someone WORTHY of celebrating.

In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary talks about why one of Fear's favorite scripts is "What if ALL of this is just a WASTE of time?" She explains that one of the most BRUTAL things about being an adult is that we start to develop this muscle memory for disappointment. We've been here before. We've tried that before. And it didn't work out. And how that instant sting of "let down" can turn into a chronic case of "give up" if we're not careful. Connecting the dots between a viral post of hers that said "None of this will be wasted" and the new Rachel McAdams movie "Send Help," Mary sets out to show us how some of our greatest disappointments can immediately precede some of our biggest breakthroughs. And that us continuing to SHOW UP, even here in the wilderness, may very well become someone else's survival guide.

Consistency in sharing our work (not just creating it) is crucial for growth. Art reflects the messiness of life. Trusting the process is essential in creative endeavors. Why God is slow… until He ISN'T and SO much more!
In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary talks about what it looks like to PRACTICE failing (or more to the point… FALLING!) Drawing an unexpected parallel (the way only Mary can!) between the Olympics and the new season of the show Shrinking, Mary digs into building the muscle memory of falling down seven times but getting back up eight. Most people never get around to actually SHOWING UP and getting started on the dream because they are SO terrified of falling on their faces even once. Mary is going to show you why this is not only the price of admission to becoming one of the GREATS… it actually makes for a far more interesting plot line! In the words of Denzel Washington, "EASE is a far greater threat to your progress than HARDSHIP could ever be." New here? In this episode of The SHOW UP Season, Mary sits down with author and influencer Kendall Mariah to talk about her brand new book This Little Fire of Mine: How Flickers of Doubt Can Spark a Bolder, Brighter Faith. The two talk about Kendall's journey from a childhood steeped in photography to navigating the complexities of neurodivergence, creativity, and authenticity in the creative industry. She discusses her experiences with Impostor Syndrome, the power of vulnerability in storytelling, and the importance of BOTH faith and doubt in her life… arguing that some of the most important work we'll do- both in our faith and in the world- will be to show up and ask the really hard questions. To that end, Kendall opens up about her adoption journey, the challenges of parenting, and her growing awareness of social justice issues in light of her newfound motherhood. In this Episode, we'll dig into: *How neurodivergence influences the way Kendall navigates creativity and "breaking the rules" *Why vulberability, not virality, has BUILT Kendall's platform *The ways in which Impostor Syndrome can resurface even (especially?) after getting everything you wanted *Why "deconstruction" can really mean just taking things apart to understand how they work *All the ways the world tells women to shrink, to "lead the boat, but don't ROCK the boat" *How small moments of hope can help us sit in the refining fire longer (and come out transformed on the other side) … and SO much more!
In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary dissects what some of the all-time BEST Super Bowl commercials have in common… and what this can actually TEACH us about playing small. Tying in a favorite episode of Mad Men, Mary dives deep into the temptation to push only whatever is shiny & new vs. leaning in to true storytelling (and nostalgia!) She ties these two parallel conversations together to show that the world is going to try to tempt you into believing that the loudest, most expensive, and most disruptive is what gets remembered… when actually, it's something far more SIMPLE than that.

In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary digs into why it is true that, for most of us, IMPATIENCE kicks in long before CONSISTENCY has a chance to. She does this by breaking down 4 critical rules from The Law of the Harvest (including "you cannot reap what you did not sow")… and what this has to do with celebrating even our SMALLEST wins as a radical act of rebellion against SHAME. Mary encourages listeners to SHOW UP with PATIENCE and keep planting even when nothing is happening, trusting that what is being built in the hidden seasons is necessary to one day hold the harvest. NEW for writers: The Writing Prompts In this episode: The law of the harvest teaches us that we reap what we sow. Patience is essential; we often want immediate results. Shame can prevent us from celebrating our small wins. We should not compare our beginnings to others' successes. The act of showing up is a victory in itself. Growth happens in the unseen moments of our journey. Celebrating small wins can help maintain motivation. The foundation of success is built during the waiting period. Every effort we make contributes to our eventual success. New here? I'm Mary 👋 I'm a bestselling author of three books and host of The Mary Marantz Show Podcast. In this episode of the Mary Marantz Show, we talk ALL about the importance of showing up over and over in life, planting small seeds of faith, and the significance of love in our actions. Joined by author Cynthia Yanof, the two explore the transition from law to authorship, the lessons learned from law school (including a stress dream come to life on a Contracts exam!), and the impact of waiting and watching for growth. The conversation emphasizes redefining success beyond measurable goals and the role of struggles and setbacks that inevitably come anytime you do work that matters, ultimately encouraging listeners to embrace their journey however long it takes. Cynthia's New Book: How'd I Miss That? Mary's Latest Book: Underestimated In this episode: We never asked you to be perfect, just to show up. Small seeds planted consistently lead to significant growth. Our outlook on life can change our actions and impact others. Love is the foundation of meaningful actions. Waiting can be a time of valuable growth and preparation. Success should be redefined beyond measurable goals. Struggles can lead to personal growth and empathy. Every small act of kindness can have a lasting impact. Perspective matters in understanding our journey. Faith and love should guide our daily decisions.
In this solo episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary sits down to tackle the effects of "streaming" on storytelling in an ever-increasingly DISTRACTED world. Referencing a recent interview where Matt Damon said Netflix asks its creators to recap the plot four or FIVE TIMES throughout a movie because they know audiences are also scrolling on their phones, Mary argues that we have, quite literally, LOST the plot. And that ACCOMODATING distraction is the wrong direction to go. Instead, we as creators (especially writers), need to keep our audience glued to the edge of their seat. And we DO that by making the Reader an ACTIVE Participant. Something Mary goes into in great detail about in her BRAND NEW guide… The MM Writing Prompts! Brought to you by The Writing Prompts from the desk of Mary Marantz: https://jmthestore.com/products/the-writing-prompts In this Episode: *The age of streaming is CHANGING how we tell stories *What we LOSE when we accomodate DISTRACTION *Spoonfeeding your audience diminishes the transfomative work of stortyelling *Why we NEED stories for SURVIVAL and are WIRED to crave them *What "Compression Culture" is robbing us of *True change ONLY happens when we actively ENGAGE with the material *How to QUICKLY make your reader an ACTIVE participant *Distracted work will never be your legacy, DEEP work will *… and SO much more! In this episode of The Mary Marantz Show, Mary is joined by Chris Weinberg, founder and CEO of Well Coached, to discuss the SHOW UP season inspired by Mary's book. They delve into the four silos of success, the DISC assessment, and the importance of self-awareness and self-regulation in leadership. Chris shares his personal journey from growing up in a trailer to becoming a successful business coach, emphasizing the value of grit, resilience, and embracing fear as a motivator. The conversation also touches on the challenges of creative entrepreneurship, the fear of success, and the significance of maintaining a healthy balance between personal and professional life. In this episode: Success is a slippery slope that requires constant self-awareness and adaptation. Everyone talks about The Enneagram, but The DISC assessment is also a valuable tool for understanding your true strengths Fear can be a powerful motivator if harnessed correctly. Creative entrepreneurs often struggle with financial discipline but thrive in innovation. Self-awareness and self-regulation are key components of effective leadership. Balancing personal and professional life is crucial for sustained success. The fear of success can be as paralyzing as the fear of failure. Leadership is a learned skill, not an innate trait.
