Join Simon Ratcliffe and Duncan Barnes discussing all things veterinary orthopaedics in the new BVOA podcast! Simon and Duncan both sit on the committee of the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association and thought it would be fun to host a podcast chatting with interesting guests about hot vet orthopaedic topics and scientific papers. Simon is an advanced practitioner based in Berkshire and Duncan is a RCVS specialist in Wiltshire. So, hopefully they'll be interest here for all sorts of vets, nurses and physios, at the very least you can log it as CPD ;-)

Ben Walton is a RCVS specialist and also R&D director at Fusion Implants. We talk about humeral intracondylar fissures and two papers looking at Fusion's HIRS screw. We also discuss the development of anatomical plates and whether they will become more commonplace in the future.

In our final episode of the year we were joined by James Guthrie. James is a double diplomat in surgery and rehabilitation working at Fitzpatrick referrals in Surrey. We discussed his career and then reviewed our recent BVOA autumn conference, going through three of the clinical research abstracts (CRAs) in more detail.

Duncan and Simon sat down with Mark Glyde at the BVOA Autumn conference - this is the first of two episodes from that discussion. Matt Hibberd runs Rata Veterinary Surgery, a large group of peripatetic surgeons based in the South of England. He joins Simon and Duncan to talk about his career, his peripatetic group as well as discuss an interesting paper on complications and longterm outcomes of combined TPLO and TTT.

Specialist small animal surgeon Abbie Tipler joins Simon and Duncan from Brisbane Australia! Abbie set up the small animal surgery discussion group on Facebook in 2015, it now has 9000 members from all over the world discussing surgical cases. We hear about Abbie's career, how she set the group up and how she maintains it. We also discussed women in orthopaedics - how do we encourage more female vets into orthopaedics? Then we all chatted about two interesting papers on humeral intracondylar fissures in French Bulldogs.

In this episode Simon and Duncan talk to the Senior Vice Chairman of BVOA and RCVS specialist in orthopaedics Mark Bush. Mark tells us about his career and the BVOA mentoring scheme. We also discussed using CT modelled guides and plates, intraoperative radiography, shoulder arthrodesis, as well as two interesting radial fracture cases recently discussed on the BVOA discussion group. For part two of our librela discussions we were delighted to interview Louise Clark, a specialist anaesthetist who was a co-author on the paper 'Musculoskeletal adverse events in dogs receiving Bedinvetmab (Librela).' We also chat about Louise’s career, explore pain management more broadly, delve into stem cell treatment, and pick up some handy tips for anaesthetising patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery.

Welcome to our first episode of the BVOA podcast! We're delighted to have Professor John Innes on as a guest to talk to us about his recent paper on Bedinvetmab, or Librela. There is plenty of debate about this drug currently and this is the first of two episodes that we have done on it. Enjoy :-)
