Poland is a country with a very long and turbulent history. Its ancient roots go back thousands of years when it was believed that a diverse population of ethnic groups inhabited the land of present-day Poland long before the first ruling dynasty took over in the 10th century. It has seen many rulers with different ideals of how a nation should be led. It's been through war where countless people have lost their lives for one nefarious reason or another. Its journey to the current democratic republic it is, is fascinating, but more fascinating to us here at Ghosteas is the potential for paranormal activity and legends stemming from its storied history. Today’s episode is going to be a little different. It started with a topic chosen by Patreon, but as I was doing my research, it went in a strange direction. So let’s get weird for a little bit. Deep beneath the surface of the water, at the bottom of this manmade lake, sits the ruins of a once prosperous town. It’s frozen in time, bridges, roads, and even some buildings still in the same place they were 70 years ago when the river valley was flooded. Lake Lanier, today, is a vacation destination to millions who live in the Southern US, but that land beneath the water holds a history of violence, racism, death, and destruction that the water simply masks. This land is said to be the source of a curse so dark, and so deadly, that even the best swimmers find themselves being pulled down to the depths, as if the spirits of those who suffered so greatly so many years ago are still there to enact their revenge. So today we will be talking about the history of Lake Lanier and the hauntings that make it such a hot spot for paranormal enthusiasts. From 1886 to 1922 construction on this 24,000 square foot mansion is said to have been near constant. Today there are 10,000 windows, 2,000 doors, and 160 rooms in this house, but at one point it was 7 stories high in some places and thought to have had more than 500 rooms within. There are many rumors swirling about this house and its origins. Some say it was the work of an eccentric woman with so much money, others claim there was spiritual intervention. Some believe the ghosts of all the people who lost their lives due to her husband’s family business compelled her to keep building the labyrinth of a home that we see today; that it was the only way to avoid the horrible fate of many of those closest to her. Have you ever looked at someone you’ve just met and gotten an uneasy feeling? You’re not sure why, they seem pleasant enough, but there’s just this feeling in the pit of your stomach that something isn’t adding up. Or maybe you are about to walk out of your door for the day, but as you turn the handle, there is something in your chest that makes you feel as though you shouldn’t go to that event. Sometimes we get these gut feelings that tell us something is off. Like our unconscious mind is sending out a red alert that we haven’t quite worked out yet. Those little nagging feelings, that intuition, is what we are talking about today!! This week we are returning to England once again and talking about one of the most documented cases of a haunting probably ever! For nearly 18 months, a family of 5 was tormented by what some refer to as a poltergeist, and there were more than 30 witnesses who not only saw for themselves but captured photos and audio recordings of the activity. Tucked away in a small market town in the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire, England, sits a storied building so terrifying that ghost hunters who have explored it vow to never stay alone. The Ancient Ram Inn is hundreds of years old and those who have been brave enough to visit claim there is a dark and oppressive energy residing within. The claims about its past paint a picture of violence, tragedy, and misfortune that lead many to believe a darkness now calls this building home, and some even go as far as saying it is the most haunted house in England. There are stories of wild poltergeist activity, sightings of full bodied apparitions, and even physical attacks on investigators who enter looking for proof of the paranormal. It’s been described by some paranormal investigators as one of the darkest places they’ve ever encountered. Even the once Bishop of Gloucester, Rev. John Yates, is said to have attempted an exorcism on the building but was unsuccessful, being quoted as saying it was, "the evilest place I have ever had the misfortune to visit.” And today we will be telling its story.
