Description

Since 2023 the Premier of Saskatchewan, Scott Moe, and his government have set their sights on the trans community, specifically trans youth . With the creation of the controversial Bill 137 and Moe’s comments during the last provincial election, I had questions. So as a white, cisgendered, straight man, I wanted to find out what the trans agenda in Saskatchewan really is.
During my search of over six months, I interviewed queer, religious and 2 spirited leaders, mental health and legal experts, health care providers, teachers, politicians, parents, and trans adults and youth.

Urban life vs Rural life vs FaithThere are some stark differences between the urban and rural cultures in Saskatchewan, including types of faith and the amount of people prioritizing faith. There are many more buildings and people in the cities which means the town hall isn’t also the post office and only bar in town and your mom isn’t the mayor, school bus driver and the town’s only bank teller. What is it like living in a small town as a trans youth? Is it hard to come out later in life in rural areas? Do kids drive grain trucks to school and does anyone say watch for deer on your way home in the city?To support this project and others like it please consider making a donation HERE. Bill 137In August of 2023, the education minister, Dustin Duncan and Saskatchewan Premier, Scott Moe created a policy that eventually became Bill 137. The passing of the bill was highly controversial to say the least as well as the bill itself.  So what is bill 137 and what was the reason for it? How did it get passed? Is it even legal? What was the collateral damage? To support this project and others like it please consider making a donation HERE. Setting the SceneBefore I can bring you with me on my search for the trans agenda in Saskatchewan, I first need to explain a bit about Saskatchewan, and before I can delve into Saskatchewan specific trans experiences, I need to cover some universal trans issues, stereotypes and misconceptions. So where is and who are the people of Saskatchewan and how many times can I use the word Saskatchewan in one paragraph? Is it unsafe for women in public washrooms and change rooms because of trans women? Are sports being overrun with trans athletes? Why in God’s name are there children using litter boxes in schools and why are trans people to blame? To support this project and others like it please consider making a donation HERE.
